here is a step by step guide for removing carrier IQ, you will need root
download android tuner play store link
click on application manager
click / pivot to apps tab
click the button on the bottom that says user and it will change to system
longpress on android system
click open
click details
pivot to all the tabs and uncheck anything with carrier iq in it
uninstall (MAKE A BACKUP) LADDM.apk (it may be in system or user, check both)
remove lib files "libiq_client.so" and "libiq_service.so" from /system/lib (use a file explorer like root explorer with rw permissions)
install a ciq checker (voodoo's is good) and see if anything is left
presto!
credit to sn707 for making the original post, i just added the step by step for people new to removing ciq
Thanks for this. I got all the same info from a couple different sources... good to see it all in one place.
Nice! funny I never saw the Att specific forum. I spent a long while figuring this out so I would not mind a little credit but im glad the info is out there

the biggest benefit i had from removing it is stopping the useless processes from running and eating my battery life away. personally i don't really care about the data collection (that much) but the wakelock induced by it was driving me crazy.
it being so easy to remove (and to revert if you want to for warranty or ota purposes, so long as you back up whatever you remove) is also a pretty good reason to get rid of the spyware.
nice make sense. thats why my Android under battery keeps being like 5-6 hrs keep awake. nice!

I wish I would've seen that guide earlier. I have a G2 and removed the 2 /system/lib files first and I'm getting the nagging "diagandroid.iqd has stopped working" message.
Is there anything I can do now to gain access to my phone?
Thank you worked perfect

Tried to do this and am now stuck in infinite boot loop.
In android tuner:
unchecked 4 references in Activ
unchecked 2 references in Receivers
unchecked 1 reference in services
In titanium backup:
Froze LADDM.apk
Rebooted, stuck in boot loop. Also doesn't look like the 855 methodology for recovering from boot loop works on the 850. Any ideas how to recover from this, or am I hosed?

You have to flash back to stock. I did the sane thing last week. There are files and instructions in either this thread or the generic g3 thread for what you need to do. It was an easy fix.

Fixed reboot loop. If anybody else ends up in boot loop, I followed the method here:

Flashing back to stock was the solution I resorted to. I'm back up and running now which is a relief. My question is why does this seem to happen in some cases and not for others when taking the exact steps outlined in the OP?

If you took the exact steps as in the op... I'm not sure. When I had your problem I had just gone in and disable those two files, rather than all of the files.
Sent from my LG-D850 using Tapatalk
Went through the steps again and no bootloop this time. I am going to lean towards user error the first time, though I usually check things twice.
I actually managed to get everything running without flashing. Mind that I do have a G2, but CarrierIQ works very similarly on both the G2 and G3 as far as files/services are concerned. My problem was that I deleted the 2 files before disabling the apps/services themselves.
With a good bit of time and finger tapping, I was able to get the Disable Service app installed and was able to disable the CarrierIQ services. That removed the looping dialog box.
This might not work for everyone, especially on the G3, but it's worth considering if you deleted the files and rebooted without disabling the services and don't want to reflash.
Worked flawlessly for me. Thanks

Thank you! Worked like a charm!

So, I was just sending an email through my phone and I see "T-mobile. America's First Nationwide 4G Network" Good for you t-mobile.
Anyways, Its permanent!! I've went to account settings and deleted it and press done. Press signature again and its there. Then I uncheck 'include signature'. Done. Go back to signature option and its rechecked. So I unchecked again, done. Tried composing an email and its still there..................
What's going on here..?
Anyone have the same issue?

I just noticed the same issue. I thought it was because my G2x was just powering down randomly and not storing the signature for some reason. But I did the change, done, then right back into the edit and it was t-mobile....
I can't wait to have some time to root this and get the latest from Cyanogen.
Yea. Tmobile had their hand in the cookie jar again.
Here is how you fix it (I'll post it again here)
This requires root.
Go into [Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Email] and clear the cache.
Download the attached Email.apk and put it on your SD card.
Using Root Explorer, navigate to /system/app
Rename the existing "Email.apk" to "Email.apk.bak"
Copy the attached Email.apk to /system/app and run it.
Launch your new Email app and set back up. Enjoy your new signature.
I had the same problem. Thanks for the app, problem solved.

My Droid Charge/Verizon also had data connection nuked by "easy battery saver" app. There are quite a few postings on various forums of other unfortunates, mostly Droid Charge, but a few LG.
My phone isn't rooted and I don't know how to flash the modem.
Is there anything simpler that can be done? I would prefer not to have to factory reset as the backup apps don't save app settings etc. on non-rooted phones.
Help anyone?

A factory reset brought my data back, so i took the opportunity to install tweakstock. I guess it was a plus in the end.
I think we should all report the app for causing such damage to the phone with no warning whatsoever and no solution. It must suck to have to reset a stock phone.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Expecting that I need to do a factory I bought MyBackup Pro and did a full backup but it seems that without root access the app settings are not saved. Since I didn't relish having to do rooting or factory reset I thought I would give the app developers a chance to do the right thing.
The response has been a series of generic emails pointing me at a new version of the app that do not fix my problem. I am guessing that it simply copies the (dysfunctional) APN it finds on first launch then its reset function simply writes this still dysfunctional setting back. Can't they just provide a simple appto write the correct Verizon APN?
I am not generally a ranting type but it is frustrating that there is no further recourse than just to advertise the serious bug and poor response to this forum. I posted a query also on Charge Forums, is there another good place to post a warning? Or am I just wasting my time?
Oh, and naturally my iPhone friends say "I told you so" just to rub salt in the wound!

I would have preferred it if they outright blacklisted the charge from downloading the app, as well as any phone it also breaks.

Pretty sure its broken my data too, it keeps jumping on and off all day. Will check with my operator that there aren't issues in my area but it was fine over the weekend.
Dug this up from a different forum. Works for sure.
1) Install app called "any cut" on wifi, it allows you to create any shortcut.
2) In the app go to new shortcut > activities> APNs
3) Create shortcut to access APNs (I guess default APN manager) and restore settings. Voila!

PROBLEM:
Samsung Rolled out an update that crippled the local search of contacts, apps, or other locally stored on the phone items.
Wait, what? Why?
The ongoing litigation between Apple and Samsung. Basically, Apple holds some patents related to how mobile phones are searched and to avoid future issues this was removed.
The Verizon variant of the phone STILL has this removed, although the international version has purportedly had this function restored.
SOLUTION:
First of all, the credit for this is not and should not be directed to ME, I am simply pointing out how to get it back based on my experience.
After getting help here several times, this is one of the only ways I can give back.
If this is in the wrong section, I apologize.
Because I have not seen many mentions of this, but there are new Galaxy S3 users every day I am creating this thread to feed to Google in hopes it helps future people that may have this problem.
WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE:
-=HALT... If you damage your device, brick your phone etc etc etc dont blame me, okay? THANKS=-
A Samsung Galaxy S3 (this is for a Verizon version, I am sure it works on all other versions but cannot say.)
ROOT Access
Some sort of custom recovery that allows you to flash mods to the phone.
A bit of patience
**AS ALWAYS MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP. IF YOU MESS THINGS UP, YOU CAN FALL BACK ON THAT.**
1. Click on THIS LINK which will take you to a thread by cajunflavoredbob on how to install Google Now on your ICS based device.
2. IMPORTANT-- Download the M6 "Offline/Online" package. You need the offline version although it is larger, because it will help you search OFFLINE items.
3. Follow the instructions in that thread in step 1. It works, and is fast and simple.
4. Once you reboot, and check that its all set up, hold down the menu button on your device... I thought I had not installed things correctly... You will need to hold down the menu button in order to get the Google Now application to start. If you tap the home button twice it will simply bring up the Google voice dialer. This is not the same as google now.
5. Last step, if you want to do it... visit THIS THREAD created by Killer-B and install the custom ICS google search bar widget that he links to.
This last step allows you to add the search widget to the home screen, but when you click it NOW you get local search of all your apps, contacts etc.

Edit double post sorry
This isn't as difficult as you are making it.
It's installing the Google now mod, making sure it works, then activating it and adding the optional widget.
Basically it ties into step one, in step two I'm telling you which file from step ones link to install.
Step three is saying to follow instructions in that link from step one to make sure it's all set up correctly.

Well I dont know if it was an app i downloaded or what because it did not start happening dirrectly after a download or installation but my phone about every week adds what appear to be app shortcuts to my desktop (launcher thing). one is titled Search and has a picture of the android guy. The other is always some game. These appear to be just links. Also in my notification bar, if i pull it down, there is an add there too. "Meet hot singles" was this week. Is there any app or method to detect which app is doing this? I already downloaded Adfree and Airblocker hoping that it would deny this suspicious activity.
You may need an app called AirPush detector. I would start there. Otherwise, retrace your steps and uninstall whatever you have only had on the phone for a little while
Or just wipe data and start fresh. Get rid of the junk you never use while your at it.
Or there's that
Well i have not tried the airpush detector and it is the kind of thing i wanted , i am considering wiping data soon too, i was thinking of doing that. I end up downloading so many programs and I'm like, I will so use this. Then i never use it.

I was wondering if any developers would be willing to look in to the Moto Assist app, I know there's a few of us that would like to be able to toggle the driving functionality on and off at will.
I work from home programming, so it's great to be able to just vocally tell my phone to read me texts, or answer calls... but then I'd like to be able to turn it off when I go out to dinner haha. I've already tried work-arounds like forcing car mode on, or downloading other apps. Nothing works as well as the stock Moto Assist app, but unfortunately it only works when I'm driving, it must pull from the GPS.
Anyway, if someone could look into this that would be awesome, it's a bit beyond my ability regrettably. Thanks! :fingers-crossed:

New finding in SmartActionsHanashi.apk ... there's a service com.motorola.hanashi.CommunicationMediatorService (my guess on which service it is) and I think (I dont do much reverse engineering) we just need an app to activate the service after we edit the SmartActionsHanashi.apk to make the service exported (it is false ATM)...
I would try it myself but with no root I cant reinstall the SmartActionsHanashi.apk

In all fairness, it's a completely different situation. I know with my Droid DNA it took MONTHS to see anything other than slightly modded stock ROMs.

New development assist app uses new modified smart actions app and there are rules in here that correspond to assist actions but using the ones they have all I can do is confuse the phone..... There are also strange actions that don't do anything except if in the driving sleeping meeting actions ....in the pictures I'm sitting at my desk but in the status bar you can see I'm "driving" but no texts are read and music didn't start either....
Sent from my XT1058 using Tapatalk 4
Edit the command i got to open the assist engine is
adb shell
su? idk i just used it
[email protected]:/ # am start com.motorola.contextual.smartrules2/.app.AboutActivity
AOV is Touchless Controls
I believe LED is Active Notification
use with caution i probably messed up my assist just now
Is anyone still working on this by chance? The only thing about my Moto X that I wish was different is having the ability to switch having the phone read my texts aloud on and off at will. I'm surprised that such a useful feature is limited to only driving when there are so many situations where it would be useful. Being able to do this without needing root access would be ideal.
This would be very useful and definitely be awesome for a work environment.
I am going to try and do it again. I have some new ideas on how to do it!
Will post in here and make a new thread if profit is achieved :fingers-crossed:
I would defiantly donate $10 for this.
