Towelroot & 4.4.2 kit Kat update - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

So this is what I am running into.
Updated to 4.3 and used Towelroot to gain root access, now when I try OTA update to 4.4..2 it wont install.
I have tried downloading the 4.3 firmware to Odin back to an unrooted 4.3. For some reason 7 zip wont recognize either 4.3 Firmware from the other thread.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get back to an unrooted 4.3 so that I can get the 4.4 update?
Thanks

You can unroot with SuperSU.

Why you need to Odin back to 4.3, just Odin with 4.4.2 then use towelroot to root.

What SuperSU app? The actual SuperSU? I have that, is that the option of "Full Unroot"?
You sure that will do the trick?

Then how do root again
A. From SuperSU
B. Or do you have run the whole "towelroot steps again"?
With towelroot, do you always have to uroot for ant OTA's?
Thanks...

Droid Maxx: I was previously rooted with Rockmymoto, MotoWPnomo, and used RSDlite to go back stock 4.2.2 and wait for 4.4.. Now I can't seem to figure out how to root again with rockmymoto but it takes straight to step 3. Can I use Slapmymoto 1.0 to gain root without flashing the 4.4 OTA that was pulled?

I did but in the directions it is saying to install the update but all I am wanting to do right now is just re-root. I sure Verizon will make changes to the next OTA before it is released again.
After reading the post again I'm thinking I can run Slapmymoto 1.0 and just not flash the OTA.. Does that sound correct?
yes.. but make sure you download and run impactor before you flash the 4.4 ota or do any sideloading.

you will need to do it again,
flash official 4.4.2 with odin then re-root and install your custom recovery ect
Wait the unroot option on SuperSU pro does not work? I am already in the 4.4.2 leaked version, but I want to install the latest OTA update available.
Once rooted, no more OTA updates. End of the story

How to unroot stock 4.4.4 ?

Hello. Sorry for the silly question.
I am currently on 4.4.4 stock (XT1033) ,rooted with cwm. I have taken a backup of stock image via cwm before installing Super Su.
My question is how do I unroot the device ?
What happens when I restore stock img via cwm ? Will it unroot ?
Thanks.

Hello, i was following this thread 'cause i am interested in getting the OTA update (from 4.4.4 to 5.0.1 ) . The reason is that i don't want to lose any data by flashing same firmware or new one when it will be availiable, and via OTA i would keep everything as it is now.
If i do unroot my moto g as you told before, will I be able to get the OTA update?
EDIT: I've decided to unroot via SuperSU , full and clean unroot option, and still it is uninstalling after some mins, shall I power off the moto g?

[Q] CF Auto Root query

I'm pretty confused about the way CF auto root works. some say it breaks OTAs some say it doesn't affect the recovery so it won't break OTAs. can anyone here please explain me if I'll still get OTAs after rooting my all stock 5.0 Nexus 5 by Chainfire's Auto Root method? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No you won't get OTA.
In 4.4, if you had root and stock recovery, you could still get OTA. In 5.0, root makes changes that prevent OTA. on 5.0, ANY changes prevent OTA
oh god no this is bad for me
I really wanted to use this WiFi kill app on my Nexus and now I have to wait for 5.0.1 and then root

Don't worry about it, WiFI kill doesn't work on 5.0 anyway

What if when 5.0.1 rolls out, and I want to update OTA?
How do I unroot my N5 rooted via Chainfire's method?

You need to be full, 100% stock.
I too was rooted with CF and stock recovery.
To be able to sideload the OTA I had to:
1) download and extract the 5.0 factory image
2) fastboot flash boot boot.img
3) fastboot flash system system.img
4) adb sideload The5_0_1OTA.zip
The CF root process modifies one or both of boot and/or system. The 5.0.1 OTA will not apply with these modified.
The above process will not lose data.

By downloading the 5.0.1 factory image in step 1, you could have skipped step 4 :/

[Q] Will I keep root after OTA?

I just got my Shield Tablet and rooted it. I keep getting two OTA notifications, one says ROM Update the other says Tegra Update. Will I keep root of I do the OTA updates?
I'd like to get a recovery added, but it seems that all the recoveries are incomplete. Is there a method to install recovery without a separate computer?

You can try the paid version of SuperSU to preserve root or the THT Rootkeeper (the other big root keeper doesn't work past 4.2) If you update the device to the official OTA, you will need a PC to reflash the recovery but you will not need to unlock the bootloader again.
