hello there! New to xda. lol Well here is my problem and hopefully someone can can help a brotha out,
So i bought a vzw htc m8 in grey about a month ago and rooted and downloaded quite a bit of apps and data. So the phone is vzw from factory and had it running on tmobile. But then I saw the RED M8 and had to have it so I went to vzw started a contract because phone looks dope and no one has it really.
Anyways to cut this really short: I made a nandroid backup of my previous rom and rooted the new one which is on vzw now and restored it but when it booted up im not connecting to vzw because the nandroid was on tmobile. Is there anyway to keep this backup? Everything works its just I cant connect to vzw. Already tried to search for networks and only tmo and att appear.
Thanks and sorry for my typos. lol

Your nandroid probably overwrote your efs partition. You'll need to flash a Verizon efs image or baseband. What recovery are you using?

I don't think a nandroid backs up efs partitions. I think simply using a Verizon based rom or flashing back to stock will fix this.

You can't use a Tmobile nandroid. Each carrier rom looks for specific bands it can operate on. Verizon has a CDMA band and Tmobile and AT&T use GSM bands. Unless the rom is programmed to detect Verizon's CDMA band, it won't work. That's why it can only detect AT&T's network and not verizon's or sprint's.

I know it's possible with TWRP, at least on the G3, to back up efs when making a nandroid and some of the earlier versions had it selected by default. If was left selected in the restore menu, then it would overwrite the existing partition. Happened to a few on the G2. But anyway, I hope you're right and it's just a rom issue.
To the OP, you know you can just restore the data partition from a nandroid, without having to go all in, right?

Yeah I messed up when I first installed viper I selected T-mo instead of global mode. I made a backup of just data and boot worked but wasn't reading my sd until I went back to the new vzw viper nan. I'm gonna try to get data thru the menu lol . Didn't think of that.

Hello all.... just got my one s a few days ago
was running energy for a while
i went to axiom played for a little while and tried out trick droid 6.1.0
wasn't getting service so i went back to axiom
no service or signal there either
went back to energy... still no service
I used the stock T-Mobile boot.IMG file in the threads
Using the stock kernal as well
tried removing the sim card and putting it back in, still no luck
any ideas? I'm stuck using my one x without data
Thanks in advance!
Wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik. Reinstall Rom. Fastboot flash boot.boot.IMG and fasboot erase cache. See what happens. Can explain later, on my phone now. Pm if you have questions.

Since I assume you're rocking T-Mobile, try this: Wipe everything as mentioned above and pick a ROM that you want. After a full wipe, flash the ROM of your choice, then flash the latest T-Mobile radio zip, which can be found HERE. Get the radio version from the T-Mo US update: 1.84.... I HIGHLY suggest you use TWRP's recovery as you do NOT have to flash any boot.img's from fastboot. You can also just straight flash the radio zip from TWRP as well.
If after this you still have nothing (unlikely), go to Settings>More>Wireless settings>APNs (access point names) and tell me what shows up there. We will work from here.
Oh CSP...how I love you. I wanted to see if it worked without a radio flash just to see. At OP, what he posted is definitely a good way to go. If you're not using TWRP and are using CWM, flash radio and you'll have to fastboot the boot IMG.

thanks for the quick reply guys
i tried what you guys said twice, still no luck
using twrp... go into network settings and in access point names,
i see tmobile data and tmobile mms
i locked the bootloader and flashed the official ruu to take it back to stock, but still no luck
thanks again
Well, you have all the APNs you need... Next bet is to go to T-Mo and see if they can give you a new SIM card. My old Nexus One killed 2 SIMs in its day.
Went to tmobile today, did a sim swap and still no luck
Next step, get a warranty replacement. If flashing the ruu didn't work, and a brand new sim didn't work. Nothing really it can be besides hardware.

would i contact htc or tmobile? how would i go about doing this, because it was rooted and everything and now its back to stock
Boy have i had one heck of a day. So there i was driving along in my buddies car, minding my own business flashing dhacker's latest CM10 build. But then out of no where, BAM, there went my IMEI, and with it went my day. I had a backup of the efs.sbn so i thought "no biggie" and went to restore it. I couldnt find it and went to the next step and did is with the QPST software. I quickly restored my IMEI and i thought i was home free; boy was i wrong.... I noticed something was wrong: no data still.
So i had a fully intact IMEI and still no data. I headed over to IRC where i pleaded for help. I was given the number to reset your sim card, and without being told it would wipe my whole phone (silly invisiblek) i blindly killed everything on my sweet little handset and went back to square one. well maybe square 0....
My newly wiped phone turned on stock rooted. My data had been turned into Roaming, which was as good as not there . I ran back to IRC and asked about what happened. I was told to try the mms fix for CM10. this meant that i had to flash CM10. I flashed CM10 booted up and my IMEI was still intact (however my MEID soon reverted to 0's) and i still had raoming. i did all the steps and i was left in the same boat, but with mms for when i had data lol
And then i went back to IRC and chadamir said he would help me by walking me through it. He told me i needed to odin back to stock. AND HERES WHERE THE BEST PART HAPPENS: I open up odin, put my phone in download mode and flash invisbleks rooted stripped rom (which i used to root my phone weeks ago) and just like that BOOTLOOPS FOR DAYS. so... you know, as usual, no biggie, right? I flashed root66 BOOTLOOPS FOR DAYS. Maybe a little worried at this point, but i decide to sleep on it. I do, and this morning i flash a completely stock unrooted .tar and lo and behold....... BOOTLOOPS FOR DAYS.
UPDATE: I have no booted into my phone, no data still.
WHERE I'M AT RIGHT NOW:
take back to verizon and tell them it wont boot
flash more
get help from one of you fellows!
cry myself to sleep
can you get to recovery and wipe data factory reset?
OP updated: i have booted into recovery wiped data and am now in Stock unrooted, still no data. No roaming also
Happened to me, no known fix.
I went to Verizon and got a replacement. They'll ship it to you with 2 day rushed shipping.

i did -____-
I wish I could just blame this problem solely on Verizon, but apparently this has been happening across the board. I flashed a CM10 ROM last week but got sick of everything not functioning properly so I switched back to TW based...now I'm scared to go back :/ especially after reading this. I backed mine up, but it sounds like that may not be enough. To make matters worse, I don't have a PC to tinker around with, so no Odin for me.
Same happened to me. My imei went to 0 I was able to recover that using qpst. They my maid went to all 0s. I was able to fix that by pushing the original backup method onto my phone but I was stuck in roaming. So I activated my old iPhone in place of my s3 and tried to reactivate my s3 instead of my iPhone. It would just take me to a black screen so I took it into Verizon expecting to get a replacement phone, nope! The guy at Verizon took out my SIM card did some **** on the comp put the SIM card back in and it worked fine. Now I'm browsing 4g 3g and WiFi

Okay So my phones IMEI has been a bunch of 0's since maybe january of this year. I had a efs backup on my computer but someone wiped it and now i dont have that folder anymore to restore it. Ive tried a few one clicks and nothing fixed it..but my question is, can having a bad IMEI have a negative effect on my phome? What are the problems to this? And just so you all know, my phone has been running fine since the number became corrupted. I dont have any of the bad symptoms that everyone else gets.
Keep in mind, im not trying to fix it(i have lost all hope for that Lol) I just want to know what can happen because of a corrupted IMEI. Thanks In advance.
You can't receive or send data to your carrier and that is all.
Once your phone has lost its IMEI it's as good as a iPod Touch.
What do you mean data to my carrier? i wouldnt say its as good as an iPod touch since i can still make calls, text and have data. The only thing i have noticed is that when i log into my tmobile account, it doesnt show what kind of phone i have. But thats all.
Thanks for the quick reply btw.
Well the only way to get back imei to normal is to restore thru 1-click heimdall or whatever method you use to go back to stock.
I know, I've tried plenty of one clicks and none of them restored it. So I gave up on trying to restore it a long time ago. But the phone itself is working perfectly normal.
Check under /sdcard/aroma and see if there's an efs backup in there. If you installed any roms that used my aroma installer there's a good chance your efs partition got backed up.
I also noticed that yesterday before I fixed my imei with my efs backup I couldnt access voicemail at all. Ate you having that same problem?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
I don't even have an aroma folder on my SD card FB lol. But thanks for the suggestion.
And actually, I can still access my voicemail.
Well, i guess im just lucky that everything still works even with a screwed imei number.
dont mean to jack this thread but fb im having the same problem i have the aroma back up how do i restore the efs back up

I'll need to post instructions soon or post a restore zip for you guys. Are you on ICS? It might be easier to try a one click back to gingerbread and to reflash your ICS rom.
Don't expect me to make the zip but maybe a savvy user can give you instructions on restoring the backup using adb.
Basically what you'll need to do if the one click to gb and reflash to ICS doesn't work is:
Flash to gb
Reboot to recovery
Mount /efs
Untar the efs backup into /efs
Reboot and test voice, data, imei
I'd give you specific commands but I'm not at home
ok thanks i dont like the one clicks. when i use them to go back to gb my imei is unknown but when i use your gb starter pack and flash a gb rom it works great so i think ill stick with gb

That is not correct. I got screwed over on an eBay buy, the phone was blacklisted by T-Mobile. I've been running on a null IMEI for months with no problems. Edge, 3G, HSDPA, phone calls, texts: no issues.

Lol thanks for correcting me, as far as I know you can't do stuff with the carrier, but I have no clear evidence of that. But if its working fine for you then I feel bad for other people who has no IMEI and can't do stuff.

Huh, I wonder if it is related to the towers in their area, I've heard also of a person with an SGSIII running on T-Mobile with null IMEI. I have not been able to connect to AT&T, although I was able to connect to them with the original IMEI.

You just take a breath. OK? I was there with old miui. I had the roaming triangle. I've been doing this for a few years or so and never had this happen. I got new sim ...boom problem solved. Yes I did EVERYTHING..lol
Edit. First Odin back to stock. But that didn't work for me either but worth a shot. You tried a factory data reset from stock backup too? If that doesn't work. Its your sim card is fried. When you call out do you get the credit card option to make call? If so just get new sim. Then stick it in and it will re sign

First off wrong forum this is for development not data issues.
If you read the CM 10.1 thread things that worked was flashing an unofficial CM10.1 build which you can find on rootzwiki or try using odin to revert back to stock touchwiz.
Also try going through the setup wizard on stock touchwiz rom after you go through it the first time.

Do you know anyone who is using ATT sim card on verizon m8?? or maybe can someone give me directions on what to do? Ive been reading about it for past few days and I see that it works great for tmobile users.

What fixes on VZW is RUU back to 5.01. Some say further but it must be Stock. Let it boot. Before doing anything else, boot into STOCK Recovery and Factory Reset. You really need to read hear as the process is covered in detail over, and over, and over, and over..........
Worth a try.
