Because toolkits get people into a position where they can do real damage to their phone but unlike using the proper methods, they don't teach you the relevant skills to get yourself out of that trouble and reverse the real damage.

With an unlocked bootloader, you can do whatever the hell you want, including rooting. Isn't that the point?
I think this pic I have unlocked bootloader
You have 2.3.3??

Back to initital question - any idea about rooting
All builds are 'rootable' that's the point of Nexus phones.

Is all you need to guarantee the success of a warranty to unroot the phone after rooting it (and flashing a ROM)? Some friends tell me that running an app called Triangle away is needed and also locking bootloader is also required. Is this true, and if so, would there be anything else I'd need to do if I rooted my phone and wanted to claim it back? Sorry but If you can't root and claim back your phone, it seems like an extremely risky move to make..
Thanks

Yes, basicaly you have to flash the latest 4.4.2 factory image and after that relock the bootloader and reset the tampered flag. Read the OP of the link serveral times so you understand what to do. You will also need adb (android-sdk platform-tools) for this if you haven`t installed it allready.
Link for adb download http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r22.3-windows.zip and here is a link to set it up on your pc http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-set-up-android-adb-and-fastboot-on-windows-tutorial/. Good luck

Hi All!
I updated my Nexus 5 to 4.4.3 OTA and didn't backup. I didn't think I would loose my root but, it seems I did. The phone is still unlocked but I can't boot into a recovery.
My question is, Can I root the phone again without loosing my data?
Thanks,
J

This. Rooting is as simple as flashing a custom recovery and flashing SuperSU.. If you seriously can't do that I recommend you don't even try to root.

Because you don't learn the basics of using a rooted phone. Then when you need real help you don't have the basic knowledge and it's very difficult to help you.

Hi all,
I'm new the the OPO having just left the Nexus line after a long time.
I'd love to use the capacitive buttons but really hate how they're opposite to the Android guidelines. Is it possible to remap them so they're the same as the Android on screen ones?
TIA.

Ah but it requires root :/
Root, and unlock bootloader and Install the latest Oct. 21st verion of SLIMKat and be over it.
You have so much customizations under a super clean and LIGHT ROM. In fact, most of what Android Lolipop is coming out with has ALREADY been out on custom roms ages ago.
Think of it as Google finally taking ideas from the development community.

Bro, theres hardly any adblocker(ad free is what I use) that doesnt need root. Are you telling me you're letting all kinds of tracking scripts/cookies, youtube ads, animated epilepsy inducing garbage steal your time/cpu/battery/data bandwidth?
GET on that root train right now. This goes for everyone.

I need to update that. Went back to stock because of battery life. Its difficult to keep it updated when you don't own a PC.

OTA file to bring the m8 on Verizon up to 4.17.605.9 and patch stage fright exploit.
Would a dev be kind enough to put together a rooted version on this? I do not know what else is included in this update so feel free to grab it from my Dropbox and tear it open. ? thanks in advance!

Hi Andy!
I haven't installed the OTA on my phone. I have twrp so it fails and I just didn't want to chance losing root by flashing back to stock recovery.
Anyone else want to give it a go and get this man the system pull??

Might as well just flash the firmware and stock rooted rom then. :good:
Full stock rooted is purely stock, plus root , insecure boot and busybox.
