Hi Guys,
After a lot of trials and errors I finally succeeded in restarting my device. My current os is android V4.0.4.
My Tablet is GT-P6810. Tab is rooted.
I have been struggling with low memory messages and problems ever since I can remember. That was the reason I started installing custom stocks in the first place.
Now I am trying to find a solution to this low memory problem.
The first hurdle is to find out which memory is the problem.
On the forum they are always talking about low RAM, and the fact that Ram is only about 819MB. However, when I check my memory with 'link2sd' I get the following data:
Intern: 72 % free - tot: 12.96 GB, used 3.57 GB, Free: 9.39 GB
SD-card:72 % free - tot: 12.96 GB, used 3.57 GB, Free: 9.39 GB
SD-card second partition 'not found' (which is logical since I haven't made one yet)
System: 10% free: Tot: 819 MB, Used: 729 MB, Free 89.64 MB
Cache: 97% free, Tot 197 MB, Used: 4.15 MB, Free: 193MB
Also see the screendump attached.
Internal and SD are the same. This seems logical since Samsung is clearly stating that the internal memory is simulated (by using part of the SD-card.
All the programs are talking about is to increase the cache. My cache however is still 97% free. So no problem there, and I do not need to increase my Cache.
However, System memory is very low. I presume that what most people are talking about is actually the system memory. If I am correct, that is the one I should be increasing. :crying:
I must point out that I recently checked my P1000 device and that has a systems memory of 1.5 GB. Imagine. And a device like the P6810 only has 819 MB !!!???
The P1000 has been running for several years now with a multitude of programs, and being used by myself, my wife and my daughter with no problems what so ever (except the ones I created myself). :silly:
Finally my question: Does anyone know of a method to increase not the cache but the system memory from 819 MB to let's say 2 GB ?
I would be ever so grateful. Finally I would be able to use my device the way it was meant to.
ps: I have tried the roehsoft 'memoryInfo & Swapfile Check, and my device is not suited for the roehsoft app.
To expand partitions you will need pit file for your device, then make a copy of it and use a pit file editor to shrink partition after the system partition, then add remaning value to system.. then flash pit with heimdall or odin.

Hi,
Thx.
Would it be possible to elaborate a bit more, or to point me in the direction of a link where the actions you described are explained a bit more in depth?
Also questions like how do I know the pit-file is the right version? ...

try this forum:
http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_phorum&Itemid=125&phorum_query=read,26,6657
you can browse on the subject called persistent storage or ramdisk.
May I just suggest that after you successfully managed your ramdisk which means that a ramdisk folder appears and your storage total becomes 30+ (by the way, I think ramdisk and storage are the same) please do not install an upgrade for higher ramdisk as it becomes a problem of mine and the other user.
But if you insist to upgrade more and encountered a problem, please read below:
I don't know what happened to your storage card but I think I know for the ramdisk.
Well, I suggest that you hard reset your xdaII and do not install ramdisk software to increase ramdisk size. Based on my experience, after I installed the ramdisk 64, the size increased to 90+ but everytime I soft reset, the data I saved in it gets lost.
After hard resetting, the ramdisk came back to normal 30+, I found the lost previous data intact though.
Is there a way, say at the time of flashing the ROM (I flashed back to a stock i9000) or from Recovery console, that the /system mount can be be repartitioned with more space?
Reason being that I need to move a new font in to replace the Fallback font that google includes since all the Chinese characters in it are simplified (annoying if you read mostly Japanese). Problem is my font is like 9mb and theres only 5mb free on system.
Thanks
i was gonna ask about this one, it would be awesome if some space from SD card can be partitioned to the internal memory.
Ok, so I found a way around reparitioning although I think I real need to repartition now or I might run into trougble.
I rolled an update.zip containing the font I wanted to swap in and simply replaced the old one. It took, but now my /system has 0.0mb free. So now I'm thinking I may have to roll my own system.img and reflash my droid with the new font already included in; assuming it is Odin3 that predetermines the partition size and sizes accordingly. This is ROM development question I know, but Where/How are the partition sizes for /system and /data determined? Is there a config file in each flash IMG that states the size it should be or is it like I already mentioned, does Odin3 determine it?
Thanks
When I check out my available storage, it shows nothing for USB internal storage. It only shows the "Device Memory" of 1.97gb as the total space. If I put in an external SD card, it does show that. I know that it will not show my full 16gb, but there should be an un-mounted partition of approximately 10gb free.
I think it may have happened as I tried installing a couple of roms. I installed the CM10 JB and a stock rooted 4.04 one. I just got the device and it came with 4.03 on it. I have tried reinstalling different stock ones and they all show no internal usb storage anymore. How can I tell if there is an unused partition on the device? I have ADB/Shell access, but not sure what commands to use. When I go to CWM and mount the "USB Storage" it doesn’t mount it.
I have tried to fix permissions, reset everything and installed the stock rom from odin and CWM. I also tried CWM 6. I appreciate any help on this matter.
Thanks.
I had the same problem I solved it by using .PIT file with stock ROM
and repartitioning when using odin
I am attaching the file please use it at your own risk
I am not a devoloper

I just tried that and i'm still having the same problems. This is what I did. I put the file you gave me in the .pit box and put the Russian Stock 4.04 in the PDA box. I made sure the Re-Partition box was checked. Do I need CWM installed before I do this? What stock file did you use? I appreciate it.
I just tried it again with Odin 1.87 and it worked!!! It now saws I have 12gb free. Is that normal? I assume therest is reserved for other things.
Thank you so much!!!
One more question. Should I have a seperate partition for USB storage as I thought I did before? It use to say 1.97gb of device memory and 10gb of USB storage.
where did you download odin 1.87 the latest version i know is 1.85?

Actually, 12GB free is normal. the other 4 GB is reserved for system(software/apps)
Whats with this idea that the pit file is a silver bullet for everything?

I suggest to try the pit file with extreme as i know it reformat and repartition system partition so if used incorrectly could miss up with system and brick the device

If it is a samsung device then you must retrieve the pit file with heimdall.
And modify the pit.
Backup your rom.
Then flash the pit with heimdall.
Then restore your rom.
Or reflash a new rom (recommended)
Check out AdamOutler's tool for looking at pit files.
Am using lg e400 running cyanogenmod 9
Hello guys, for the previous year I would say, I have read about repartitioning MTK phones, starting with my old Cubot MTK6572 (Rest In Peace) to my current Doogee MTK6582.
I have tried countless times to repartition using the EBRTweak utility, or changing the EBR1 & EBR2 files myself but it never, ever works.. I always manage to get in the first initial boot and have a false victory where I see that I have re partitioned successfully, but after I reboot after, I always get a boot loop after that initial boot.
For editing the EBR files, I have tried:
-Using EBRTweak
-Editing myself by changing the values from scratch by making calculations with sectors, bytes and addresses
-Editing myself by
First adding a value in the /data partition length, adding that value
Second adding that same value to the start address of the FAT partition
Third removing that same value to the length of the FAT partition
For flashing the EBR files, I have tried:
-Flashing all the patitions with SP flash tools with the new EBR files (without changing the Scatter file)
-Flashing all the patitions with SP flash tools with the new EBR files (changing the Scatter file)
-Flashing only the EBR partitionsa on a working ROM
-Flashing the EBR files using an updater-script via a custom recovery
With each of these methods, all my calculations were exact when I verified everything (to the byte), including using "disktype" command in Linux.
So after one year of failure, I finally decided to post on XDA to ask for help... please, please, does anyone know why the first boot works but the second boot always ends up in a boot loop? :silly:
I emailed Doogee engineers and they told me that u cant re-partition it

Some phones (Notably the Mediatek "MTK" phones) are known to have a very small internal storage for your applications.
This is because the storage usually attributed to applications 6GB on the MTK6582 is split in two parts:
1- 1.3gb for applications
2- 4.7gb for an internal sd-card to put music and movies
But nobody uses internal sd-card much, because we all have external sd cards of 32gb or more. This means that you have a 4.7GB that is completely unused and an internal storage for applications of 1.3gb that gets full as soon as you install a few applications like Facebook, Youtube (that use a LOT of space nowadays), or update your system apps.
All this is completely ridiculous so a few people and I are trying to make repartition and have more space for application, while getting rid of that useless "internal sd-card"
exactly

yeah that's what I'm saying, I talked with MTK engineers but they just replay with "if you re-partition your phone, it will brick" over and over, I told them to just give me a solution, like changing EBR files or something, and I know how to unbrick MTK phones, but they didn't care at all, the problem is: why they just put all the storage as an internal storage instead of phone storage and internal storage, it's pathetic to put phone storage and SD card storage at same time...
WOW! You actually managed to talk to them? That is awesome, we could have a lead here, don't let that go, friend!
I'm happy that you agree with me however and all the thousands of people with the same problem. Maybe if you tell them that you don't care about bricking your phone and the warranty, that you just like to play around and you have a backup phone anyways (to convince them to answer).
You could tell them that the repartitioning works on the first initial boot, but ends up in a boot loop after you reboot a second time. If they don't want to tell us how to fix it, they could at least tell us why this is happening so we could research on the subject.
Thanks for your help, I'll hit "thanks" on your post!
