Doesn't matter if /data/local is empty, just push the bootanimation there.

it is not a bug if you flash custome kernel with cf-root, they removed the animation for faster boot time.
replace the bootanimation and samsungani at /system/bin with stock file.
change permission to rwxr-xr-x
replace the bootanimation.zip with ODEAnim.zip
change permission to rwxr--r--
you will get back the original boot animation. and you can not use custome boot animation anymore.
do with root expoler
good luck
Thanks for that suggestion still I am having the ssme issue , I am trying to have the nexus 5 animation its not working only the wave sound I can here :-(

Check your build.prop for this line:
debug.sf.nobootanimation=1
If it is there change it to:
debug.sf.nobootanimation=0
Then place a compatible bootanimation.zip file in /system/media/
See if this works.

rename PowerOn.ogg to 1_Power_on.ogg
or replace any other .ogg sound file in system/etc
or redownload poweronsound.zip and redo the process of coping and replacing

EDIT: nevermind i found the problem.. i'm only changing the files inside the system/media folder, didn't think you also should change the one inside data/local haha! thanks!

you are awesome sir
EDIT: nevermind, i figured it out. i tried deleting the bootanimation.zip and just copied the 2 .qmg files and the animation went pretty fast like normal. thank again for the stock animations! now will look for the S3 version of the boot animation. the shutdown's fine but the boot animation is all fuzzed up (saw a thread with the stock .qmg files of the s3).
links and animations fixed and updated.

Guys, is this boot animation exactly the same from Galaxy Nexus? For example, it will fit completely inside Galaxy Note screen?
And if I use this file, later I can change again to another file without any problems, right? For example, to the boot animation ZIP file from Jelly Bean.
Cool!! Finally the stock Samsung logo boot animation.
Is it possible to get a higher resolution??
Thanks mate!

I'm sure some of you have seen the video for the new CM10 Boot animation:

Halp anyone?

Not a flashable zip. You have to replace the bootanimation.zip found in /system/media by yours. Be sure to name it the same and overwrite it.
www.google.com is also a very good help source. I used the keywords "replace boot animation android" to find that in 0.21 seconds.
Cool your jets man, it took me a bit longer than that. Plus there's no new thread about the new CM10 boot animation so THERE!
I followed all the instructions and tried with both the 800 and 480 animations, but when the phone boots up it just shows a stock animation of the android logo...
anyone know why this might be?
I replaced both the animation in system/media and data/local

I've never tried putting anything in data/local. Try just system/media.

Yea, at first I tried just system/media and that didn't work and some article said try data/local as a solution - which also did not work :/
Putting the bootanimation.zip in /data/local should work. Be sure to change its permissions to 0755 or rwxr-xr-x.

Ah, perfect! Thank you so much!
fyi i created/(modified) a flashable zip for our ns4(g) works on my crespo4g ymmv no warranties no guarantees

Vertical 480 from the zip file in the youtube video worked for me, just changed permissions. Still using CM9 though, just didn't like the boot animation.
..

Once you have replaced the bootanimation you need to go to the folder oem/media/ and erase the file bootanimation.zip.

i copied my custom animation zip into the system/media folder AND oem/media folder too. gave 0644 permission to both files and in file explorer i mounted everything back to r/o . custom bootanim works like a charm
Just need superuser mod and then delete bootanimation.zip from oem folder then replace desire animation in media folder
not working on z5 dual,i tried aove mentioned methods one by one, also use a flashablezip but my bootanimation is totaly gone

Here guys, go folder oem/media/, rename bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip.bak (for backup) and paste the new bootanimation, set permission rw-r--r--

After a lot of editing work finally came up with this...
Simply paste the below hyperlinked zip in /system/media of your Oneplus 2.
