[Q] Need help flashing recovery image. - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got a Moto G (Model XT1045) yesterday to replace the Nexus One that I have had since the week it was released. I am wanting to install Cyanogenmod 11, and am following "wiki.cyanogenmod<dot>org/w/Install_CM_for_falcon" to do it. (Sorry, too new to link directly.)
The bootloader is unlocked, but I am unable to get the recovery ROM working. This is what I type as well as the output:
Code:
C:\Users\User\Desktop\adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20140702\adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20140702\sdk\platform-tools>fastboot flash recovery WM-swipe-6.0.4.7-falcon.img
target reported max download size of 536870912 bytes
sending 'recovery' (9954 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.395s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.329s]
finished. total time: 0.734s
The Fastboot screen on the phone says the following:
Code:
USB connected
cmd: getvar:partition-type:recovery
cmd: getvar:max-download-size
cmd: download:00862000
cmd: flash:recovery
Mismatched partition size (recovery)
Other forums have said the partition thing is normal and should be ignored.
Now, when I go to "Recovery" the screen flashes for a moment the screen that says that the phone is unlocked, but then goes right back into Fastboot with the error "Boot up failed". I tried doing the recovery thing with both of the ClockworkMod 6.0.4.7 compatible images for my phone as well as TWRP 2.7.1.0. I have also tried going strait to recovery after I loaded it from the command prompt and also tried "fastboot reset-bootloader". All of those yielded the same results.
I can still get into the original OS, so I not really freaking out, but it would be nice to get CM loaded on because I don't want to spend the time tweaking my phone too much just to wipe it the next day. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks for your time.

You have a Moto G 4G. Look in 4G Development Forums for a semi-working TWRP.
But be careful. Moto G and Moto G 4G ROMs aren't compatible. There is no CM or any other custom ROM yet for your device

[Q] CWM Successful Install, Doesn't Run (Boot up failed)

Hi,
I was attempting to install Cyanogenmod on my Motorola Moto G today, but wanted to make a full backup of my rom in its current state first. However, I can't seem to be able to install CWM successfully -even though I get the following success message:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-cloouch-6.0.4.7-falcon.img
target reported max download size of 5 bytes
sending 'recovery' (7880 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.279s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.296s]
finished. total time: 0.575s
When I try to select the recovery option while in flash mode, I simply get the message "Boot up failed". I have tried flashing CWM from ROM Manager as well, but also to no avail. My first attempt performing this was on Arch Linux, and second from Ubuntu - both which failed. Could anyone point me in the direction as to how to get this working? Thank you in advance.
Update: I have tried TWRP as well, but with the same result - the image is flashed successfully, but when I try to launch recovery I still get "Boot Up Failed."
EDIT: No matter where I look the instructions only go so far as assuming once it's flashed successfully whatever recovery you've installed will run. I've now tried all combinations involving CWM, TWRP, and Ubuntu, Arch Linux, Windows, all of which are still giving me exactly the same problem.
SOLVED (could a mod mark this as solved?) - turns out the guides online don't take into the account the LTE versions of the Moto G (XT1039). Do a quick Google and find the peregrine (LTE-tailored) version of the recovery mods and you'll be good to go.

Unable to open TWRP on XT1033
Hi,
I flashed twrp on my Moto G (XT1033) using the following sequence
Booted into fastboot mode using Power + VolDown. Connected USB cable
Flashed using fastboot - command and o/p
Code:

Bootloop! Unable to flash stock rom or lock bootloader (Help)

Hi. I can't get passed the google splash screen on a Nexus 5 D821 and could use some help.
Here are the facts:
* The owner of the device told me it bricked after an update.
* The Bootloader is unlocked. When i tried to lock i got the following message:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
...
OKAY [ 0.041s]
finished. total time: 0.041s
But it wasnt persistent. When given reboot comand the phone switched OFF instead. I turned it on to bootloader again and it was still unlocked.
* I tried flashing stock rom LRX22c manually after a failed attempt with the flash-all script. I got the following error for bootloader, radio, boot and recovery:
Code:
FAILED (remote: flash write failure)
* I tried erasing cache and flashing userdata but the after over 60 minutes waiting i came to the conclusion that i wasnt going anywhere and just rebooted the phone.
*The only thing im actually able to flash without an error message is system.img:
Code:
fastboot flash system ~/Downloads/hammerhead-lrx22c/image-hammerhead-lrx22c/system.img
target reported max download size of 1073741824 bytes
erasing 'system'...
OKAY [ 0.127s]
sending 'system' (981472 KB)...
OKAY [ 30.934s]
writing 'system'...
OKAY [ 62.705s]
finished. total time: 93.767s
* I tried booting TWRP, but i was unable to mount the file system (perhaps because i wasnt able to flash it. i used "fastboot boot twrp.img").
Are phones technically able to get to splash screen or bootloader with a damaged NAND or EEMC chip? Im starting to consider the possibility of a hardbrick. Why would i be able to write system.img if that was the case though? Any help is welcome
===============================================
alright so im pretty sure its a hard brick. The emmc is dead. its a shame :/ guess ill just try to sell it for parts. I would delete this thread because its pretty useless, but i have created my account a few days ago, and i ddont know how to.
You've only flashed the system img?
Do all the img's one by one. Recovery, boot, system, radio, userdata. Then fastboot reboot

I have tried all of the imgs in their respective order. they all failed. i got the error
Code:
FAILED (remote: flash write failure)
. system.img was the only .img i was able to write, and i was wondering why. Also, when i try fastboot reboot the phone switches off. It doesnt reboot.

Hard Bricked FRD-L14 "FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)

So for the past week, my phone has been bricked. Bricked by flashing the wrong firmware, so now not able to access the whole phone, and making matters worse by flashing the wrong recovery for the phone. The phone being an Honor 8, FRD-L14, 64GB.
I'm not able to use dload to rollback anything, or use that option at all, since the recovery isn't eRecovery, and doesn't even have any recovery in itself.
The problem is that I'm able to boot into "download mode" my phones unlocked, and when I type in "fastboot oem get-bootinfo", the response is:
(bootloader) unlocked
OKAY [ 0.008s]
finished. total time: 0.010s
But when trying to flash anything through fastboot in the cmd, like the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" to flash a recovery on the phone, the response would then be:
target reported max download size of 471859200 bytes
sending 'recovery' (29378 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.803s]
writing 'recovery'...
FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)
finished. total time: 0.814s
My phone is unlocked, and on the download mode screen, is shows:
PHONE Unlocked
FRP Unlock
My drivers are installed, as well as the device being shown in fastboot when typing in the command "fastboot devices"
I haven't been able to do a single thing to the phone, and have searched up a countless amount of hours to find the fix for the phone, if anyone can, please look into the problem and assist me, thanks .

You're in a tough situation my friend, what do you get when you try the dload method? In my opinion this is the only thing you can do. However i heard about a thing called "DC Unlocker" . It can flash a clean ROM and other good stuff for bricked Huawei phones, but you have to pay, and i don't know what the prices are. Hope you'll make it

Flashed magisk patched boot image - killed phone :(

I tried to root by flashing the patched boot image as describe in https://forum.xda-developers.com/ho...agisk-root-honor-view-10-mate-10-pro-t3749280. After that, the phone went into a bootloop.
When I get to the eRecovery screen, I tried 'Download latest version and recovery.' It got to 'getting package information from server' but then stopped with 'getting package info failed.'
I then tried 'Wipe data/factory reset' and it rebooted but nothing changed.
I don't know what else to try with this phone. None of the current versions of twrp would run on it. I've never bricked a device in years of rooting.

You need to restore your original ramdisk. Also, you have to patch your own ramdisk.img with Magisk Manager if you want to try rooting your device.
And btw, this is a development forum, not General or Q&A one. Read carefully before trying to mod this device, or you will end up with an expensive brick.
please contact me on hangouts i may be able to help [email protected]

I flashed the system.img and the recovery_ramdisk.img. It booted to the eRecovery screen again.
I tried 'Download latest version and recovery' and it failed with the 'getting package info failed' error again.
I then tried 'Wipe data/factory reset' and unlike before, it actually went through and said it was successfully completed. But then it rebooted twice and went back to the eRecovery screen again.
Any ideas on how to proceed from here?
ETA: When I pressed vol up/power after this it went to a screen which said 'software install failed' instead of the recovery screen I thougt it would go to. After the first time, pressing vol up/power goes to the EMUI screen with the options of 'Reboot' 'Wipe data/factory reset' and 'Wipe cache partition.'

I did 'fastboot flash ramdisk ramdisk.img' and it still does a couple of reboots and then goes back to the EMUI screen with the recovery/reset/reboot/shutdown options.
In summary, this morning I did:
'fastboot flash system system.img' which resulted in 7 occurances of 'sending sparse system x/7 (xxxx KB)...' - which I have never seen before but all finished with OKAY
'fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery_ramdisk.img'
'fastboot flash ramdisk ramdisk.img'
Is there something else I could do or redo in a particular order?

I've tried two factory resets after completing the above mentioned actions. Both times reported they were successful it still won't boot to the os, goes to the EMUI screen after several boot attempts.
Same problem here on a US BKL-L04 =(
I flashed a magisk modified ramdisk.img and have been in bootloop ever since.
I've downloaded and flashed recovery_ramdisk.img, ramdisk.img, and kernel.img from the link earlier in this thread: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1kfNAjIwiMj8wpeDuJayiH2t-srYBBvN3
I've then did "Wipe data/factory reset" from Huawei eRecovery - no luck

Aside from fastboot happing very quickly (< 1 second even for 32 meg recovery_ramdisk.img) everything seems to work fine... The phone just no longer boots - it trys a few times - displaying the "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted" screen for quite a while and the non-animated blue honor screen briefly and then ends up in EMUI eRecovery.
Are these files still up to date? Or perhaps there were newer versions on my phone and that's why flashing the older ones isn't working?
Also worth noting, I'm flashing from a mac with Android sdk fastbook:
$ fastboot --version
fastboot version 0.0.1-4500957
Installed as /Users/sek/Library/Android/sdk/platform-tools/fastboot
Thanks for any help / tips!

finished. total time: 0.745s
$ fastboot --version
fastboot version 0.0.1-4500957
Installed as /Users/sek/Library/Android/sdk/platform-tools/fastboot
Thanks for any help / tips!

Thanks for the info, that tool looks interesting. Where can I get the stock files for BKL-L04 US version Honor View 10?
I have now tried flashing kernel, ramdisk, recovery_ramdisk and system from both of these sources:
- http://arter97.com/browse/v10/stock/BKL-L04/
They all appear to flash fine. I tried flashing vendor.img as well, but get an error on that:
$ fastboot flash vendor vendor.img
target reported max download size of 471859200 bytes
Invalid sparse file format at header magic
sending sparse 'vendor' 1/2 (445713 KB)...
OKAY [ 9.718s]
writing 'vendor' 1/2...
FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)
finished. total time: 9.724s
It still doesn't want to boot. I end up in eRecovery each time.
I am able to flash TWRP from Pretoriano80: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-view-10/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-0-t3769917
It seems to be working properly, perhaps that helps me somehow?
Finally back up and running - Thanks Tecalote!
FYI: I am finally back up and running - Tecalote's post worked perfectly (and BKL-L04 update zips are linked earlier in the thread also): https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76331841&postcount=46

try to install twrp and then do hruupdate from twrp
get your files from firmware finder and search xda forums to how to install those files
its very easy and your system will be back in stock format
after that you can try to root and install custom rom

Hi, what helped you there? I have a similar situation.
"Hi,
I need some advice on what can be done with my Honor View10 as it keeps gracing a bootloop followed by fasrboot mode.
Mine is a C675 variant and I was on 190 when I decided to unroot and update the device to 218. Once that was done, I flashed a patched recovery_ramdisk boot image that was patched using magisk to support it. Worked fine. Did a reboot and it got stuck in a bootloop.
I have tried flashing other patch.imgs too, due instance tried extracting recovery.img of the current version of rom, flashed it, no luck!
Tried flashing the patched version of that, still did not help.
I am on EMUI9, any help please?
Also can anyone help me with the link of one of the latest versions of C675 update please? "
This is what happened to me
