Can anyone recommend a voicemail app that perhaps speeds retrieval, better icon, maybe enhanced functionality?
Thanks in advance!

I use Youmail. It isn't perfect but it does the job fairly well. I'm interested if anyone has any other recommendations though.
Um, Google Voice? Retrieval is instant, and it has plenty of features.

hi.
i've just published my first android app in the market: HiddenMenus.
well, it is actually one of the simplest application ever, it lists some hidden tasks/activities like "checkin" (*#*#2432546#*#*) and "info" (*#*#4636#*#*), extremely useful for gingerbread upcoming ota!
since i am a nexus one owner, i just know its codes. feel free to suggest other devices shortcuts.
for any bugs or "force close" it is better a useful reply here rather than a negative comment on the market.
[update] WARNING: some entry might not work depending on the device/rom
thanks to all.
Nice idea!
Nice little app.
*#*#6484#*#* for "Developer-Specific Settings" in the MIUI ROM.
i'm glad you enjoyed it.

if this code launches a specific activity, could you possibly tell me its fully qualified name? you can discover it with logcat.
On Epic 4g, Checking just takes me to the dialer.
Sweet idea though

well... although i'm looking for a better way to implement it, currently the chekin shortcut is nothing else than a dialing simulation
anyway, it should send the checkin request correctly.
let me know otherwise.
I thought it was running through the dialer, it must not be sending it correctly, i tried re-installing, but with no success

Very nice app.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
working great...
u can put the #* code beside each menu.
this can really help use to remember or recall the code.
Thanks for sharing!
"Check-In" just takes me to the dialer.

until i find a better worldwide way, this is the correct behavior. anyway it should send the checkin request correctly.
please note that some entry might not work depending on the device/rom and, although it is not so easy, i'm working on that...
Good work nice idea.
I'm looking for a good voice recorder solution for my Sensation that has been tried and known to work. I tried the Quick Record widget from HTC but it doesn't do much else other than provide an icon on my screen that does absolutely NOTHING.
All legalities aside, I have a rather combative employee at work and would like to be able to record some of the less than pleasant conversations he has with me when he comes into my office so I can play them back for HR so they don't think I'm full of crap the next time I tell them what was said.
It would need to be able to continue recording with the screen off.
FREE is preferred, but I am willing to spend a few bucks if needed.
Thanks much!
If you're in the US & have the Sensation 4G, the reason that widget doesn't work is because Tmobile took out the Voice Recorder app.

Voice Recorder from the market is free and works with the screen off. Been using it for a long time with my N1 and it works fine with the Sensation.

Yeah. My wife and I have used it for more than a year. She was able to record lectures with it pretty good. She says the most she ran it was 30 minutes at a time but it didn't drain her battery. It's pretty lightweight and has some decent features. I used it a handful of times.

Hey guys,
So I have heard of the issue with the CM7 (Wyzor's TG-Reloaded build, in my case) issue in which calls to numbers with a "+1" in front of them cannot be made. Since all incoming numbers to google voice have a +1, returning missed calls is a pain in the ass. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!
PS - LOOOOVE my new triumph

Does using an alternative dialer work? At worst, it might be a fix, at best it'll give you an idea whether it's the dialer's fault or the phone's. I have the ROM but my phone isn't active.

Nope, just tried a different one from the market, and it doesn't make a difference. Seems like it hangs while trying to make the call (which appears to use the stock phone app and not be dependent on the dialer). Any other ideas? Do phone.apk replacements exist?

Not that I've ever seen, and I've been around. It might be best to ask about the issue in the ROM thread, because the developer is usually the one in the best position to recognize the problem or offer a fix.

Which build are you using? I have used the last three builds of his and have never experienced this problem. You should send Whyzor a private message and ask for his input. He's helped me out before, CyanoGenMod reloaded is his baby and he is pretty responsive when it comes to things like this.
I actually PM'ed him earlier today and he confirmed that I am not the only one to see this issue with the +1. If anyone figures out how to call out with +1 or make it so that the default calls do not come in with the +1 onto them via google voice, I would love to know. Otherwise, it really is just a minor annoyance.
I'm a journalist and doing a phone interview tonight. Does anyone have an app that can record calls on the Infuse?
My phone is rooted.
Thanks!

Yes, but Google Voice charges to call the US Virgin Islands, which is free to call otherwise. #1 gripe with GVoice.

Would you look at that!
This has been an issue since GVoice's conception, and Google KNOWS about this! I find it to be unacceptable.

I agree, not sure why this has been an on going issue for all these years.
I sideloaded the AT&T visual voicemail apk on my U Ultra. Try this apk for the Sprint visual voicemail apk.

Why would they kill their own app? Especially without an alternative? Are they actually going to start pushing GVoice?

Thanks, didn't work though.
When i installed my SIM card, i let it install Verizon apps, so now I get the notification but it force closes. Chatted with HTC support and they said to have Verizon hard-reset my voice mailbox, which I did. Just waiting to see if that did the trick...

I TRIED calling Sprint about this today. The very nice lady with a very heavy accent tried signing me up for "premium voicemail" repeatedly. She kept on insisting I needed to download SVVM from the Play Store. Eventually I just hung up on her.
I'm having an issue setting up AT&T visual voicemail as well. I downloaded the app from the Play Store, ran it and got the "something is not right" message. I tried it several times, to no avail.
