twopumpchump: yes, ive researched and read what you said yesterday. sorry for the n00bishness
Hello flash-heads! I am wondering if anyone else has observed these symptoms SPECIFICALLY ON THE ATT INSPIRE.
Current radio: M2 flash
ROM: Doesnt matter in this instance (not including CM7+)
Kernel: STOCK
Here is what is happening: Ive noticed on many other flavors of kernels, specifically OC and highly optimized kernels that the mic on the phone seems to have WAY too much gain and i can hear minute sounds being reproduced into my ear when the set is placed against my ear. It doesnt interfere with functionality but it does sound kinda wierd compared to "like stock" behavior. This is NOT present in the stock kernel regardless of which ROM is on there (for sake of argument i am using core 3.4 now). YES, i applied all flavors of the 4G audio fix with no result (the ear piece sound is flawless with or without this patch at this point in most ROMs). I read other forums about odd mic gain issues and wondering if something like that applies here.
--full wipes incl. system and boot were done before each test to help pinpoint cause
Anyone else notice this?
Keep up the awesome work here Devs!
first of all, it would help if you specified which OC kernels you are having this issue with. some kernels come with "audio boost", some don't....i have only examined the Leedroid and BuzzSense kernels personally. just replacing the zimage(kernel) shouldnt affect the sound i dont think, but the Leedroid OC kernel also includes a modified .csv file which does affect the sound. when you say you are using a "stock" kernel, do you mean the kernel from the AT&T stock rom? or the kernel that came with the custom rom you have flashed? try flashing a rooted stock rom(not dhd based), then flash over the top of it BuzzSense 1.6 OC kernel and let me know the results. i think you will find that the sound isnt affected...at least i cant tell it if it is.
moving this to general as its not development.
Allow me to define the terms in your reply:
Stock kernel I am referring to is the AT&T one that shipped with the phone.
My current rom is Core 3.4 Skinned
The kernels I have tried are indeed Lee and Buzz (latest versions as of this post were tried) both resulted in this odd behavior. I agree with the audio boost being a possible cause.
Radio is the WWE M2.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Many people also report that they hear an echo of themselves when they speak with me. On my end I do not hear any distortion at all and overall sound quality is great. Only the person speaking to me hears their voice (significantly quieter) repeated to them with about a 1 second delay. I am going to try the M3 and the M(att) radios.
Thank you.
The echo thing was common on ATT about a year ago, but It's usually a problem with the person hearing the echo, not you on the other end especially if you don't hear it.
Not sure about the other issues. That sucks.
My major concern is that very often the person on the other end of the line will say "You sound like you're in a tunnel".
Is there a way to boost the mic sensitivity?
(Searched, but found nothing about the "in-call volume")
What ROM are you using?
And this should be moved to Q&A. Any mods can help?
low mic level

Hi All,
I have the same low mic level problem, the other party can hardly listen me.
I have tried different Radios but the result is same.
Currently I am using CM10.1 by albino, previously have used Viper and Elegancia and the problem is same on all of these roms.
Any help/ suggestion ?
Thanks,
AliDSD
Hi,
this thread is old but I have a similar problem with the mic volume too low. Has anyone found a solution to boost the mic volume? I'm using cyanogenmod 11 (android 4.4.4) by sultanxda.
I have some problems with the OPO nothing big:
Connection to a headphone often dont work, it plays but i cant here it.
Flashlight gesture ON is often not working, i think it just dont wake ups the phone, OFF works fine.
Using: ParanoidAndroid4.5B1
Anybody has the same problems? My phone is undervolted to -87mV, but i dont think thats the problem.
Is your headphone... happen to be a headset? (with a microphone)?
The flashlight gesture on/off is a ROM problem (or maybe its just you) you have to ask in your respective ROM thread to be sure.
What kernel are you using?

I had a similar problem when it comes to headsets. Try this, plug in the headphone jack very slowly until you hear a "static" pop when you hear it, leave it there for a couple seconds and then plug the jack fully in. When you hear the static pop, 1-2 seconds later it should start playing the music.
I prefer Franco Kernel but currently I'm testing AK Kernel as Franco hasn't been updated for awhile so I'm going around testing what other kernels have to offer. AK kernel seems to have this problem resolved, give that kernel a try and see if your headphone problem still occurs.
Well I don't use PA so I can't really help you with that. Its most likely a ROM problem if the gestures are enabled.
I heard of someone whos phone often got hot in his pocket, because the flashlight was activated by this gesture in his pocket. Maybe they tried to fix this and this is a bug..?

They fixed this in the 30O OTA. They've made it so it uses a proximity sensor so if its blocked, gestures are disabled.

It works with AK? .... yeah AK you kind of need a tweaking app, their default settings aren't optimized. It still has mpdecision on even though intelliplug is in the kernel. Thats one thing I like about Franco Kernel, it doesn't have as many customizations for the kernel but the default settings are very optimized so it works good out of the box. For AK, I have to customize everything to my liking including intelliplug, governors, etc.

I haven't tweaked mines too much, I'm trying out
governor: slim
cpu min: 268
cpu max: 2457
intelliplug on
touch boost off
gpu max: 330

Odd... Ak fixed my audio problem.
I'm having a similar problem, no audio through headphones.
I'm on PA and AK.
I thought it was to do with PA so posted my issue there, but now I think it may be the kernel.
Also I get audio output at first it goes away when I get a notification(audio), but that too is very random, some notifications don't affect it some do.
Only a reboot fixes it temporarily, till another notification triggers the issue

Hey guys, Ive been really disappointed how low the maximum headphone sound is, especially if you are using equalizer in Spotify. Is there any way to increase it without installing custom rom or kernel? My phone is rooted. On galaxy note 2 I used to modify config_gain or something like that, can I do the same on S6? If so, how? Thanks in advance.
Install hacker kernel which has sound mod. The difference is day and night for me. Awesome sound. Gets fairly loud also slightly emphasizes lower frequencies I feel.

Where can you get the kernel?

Have you tried going to Sounds and Vibrations > Advanced > and running the adapt sound wizard?
Am I the only one who is facing this issue or anyone else is too?
I have used many ROMs and in every ROM I have the in-call audio very low.
In the settings, I have turned the volume to maximum too
Any help please!
Thanks
try squid kernel, screws up your speaker volume while calling

I'm using squid kernel. Is it because of that?
or your speaker is demaged. i would flash stock firmware through (m)fastboot to test
