Anyone think it's a bit low? Is there a mod or anything we can do to raise it a bit? This is driving me nuts with this phone.
I'm with you. Wish I could find one as well! Crazy low volume in call. Driving me insane.

I thought it was low to until I adjusted how I was holding it. Strange I know but no problems at all now. I hold it almost straight up when on a call.

What he said. You have to play around with how you hold it and what part of the top speaker is near your ear. You will find a sweetspot that will work perfectly for you.

Same with stock 2.2 and bamf gb. Volume seems much weaker than my previous droid, droidx and evo?
I don't think it's weak. I can hear the ringer when I am 2 floors above the phone in my house, music is nice and loud too, no complaints here. Although I know that others say the same thing as you, but for me personally, I think it's fine.
I agree the volume is very weak. I am coming from an original droid and the volume on that was nice and loud. Never had a problem hearing the ringer, music or movies on it. Now with the TB I constantly have the volume turned all the way up and still can't hear it sometimes.
I thought this too. My wife was complaining her TB volume wasn't loud, so we tested it against my Eris and the Eris was drowning out her TB

Yea, the volume sucks.
I have an app called volume+ its [email protected]$$ and works great bit you have toto be on.ginger for it to work
>--The Game--<
didn't do anything for me? I'm on bamf gb too
i'm running stock.
and i actually think the volume is quite loud. music plays pretty loudly, especially with kickstand out for the speaker. in fact, i turn it all the way down during a call, and people next to me can still pretty much hear the entire conversation (when holding the phone up to ear).

Are you saying that when it plays through an external source that it isn't loud enough?
yes i think they may be talking about external sound.. i came from droid 1 and its much louder i think than the TB either way idc cause its still louder than all my friends iphones hehe.
volume flat out isnt good at all... motorola droid 1 was wayyyyyy louder than this.. I shouldnt have to install Volume +.. Even though I already have it, didnt make that much of a difference.
yea for those of u wanting louder volumes get volume+. works amazing. requires gingerbread though

No not at all. In fact I think it's one of the louder devices. Might wanna make sure your media volume is up. I find that everything sounds weaker if media volume is down.
I run CM7 personally and under the CM Settings change the sound volume to 10dB and it makes the phone so loud at the store I am at that everyone turns to look lol. Work in a 58,000 square foot retail store.
Comparing it to an og droid is kind of silly. Droid has one of the loudest external speakers. I find the tbolts speakers to be... A bit low, but not too bad. I generally have my phone on vibrate, and use headphones with music/ video, which seem fine to me.

Im having issues with the volume of the Call volume on the main speaker when i press speaker phone while in a call.
im currently running CM7.1 with 2.3.5 but no matter what i try using the settings in CM or with the Volume+ app the person is still at very low volume.
I do a lot of driving and this pisses me off because the volume of music from the speaker is fine and can be turned up so loud that it becomes distorted, and i can't stand using a headset, pisisng around with wires while driving and getting caught on stuff in the cab.
Anyone know of a good way to boost this as alot of things i have tryed just keep FC'ing on me when i connect headphones or receive a call.
This could be the party on the other line. Most music or other video/ podcasts are recorded with quality sound. Phone microphones aren't as good.

Well i have only ever tested it when receiving or making the call from an IPhone 3G and a Nokia E70, every time the call has been low volume from both handsets.
strange volume+ ver.174 doesn't work for you because I blow my speaker using it. I turned the speaker volume up to 15 and the phone volume was maxed and later that day I was sprint for a exchange. Thats the only app that increases your volume to that degree so if it isn't working it maybe your phone.

15 ?!!! That's excessive. I have mine at +4 and still have some trepidation most times, but +15...that's crazy.
does anyone else have problems with the sound quality in calls? i hear the person fine on my end but they always tell me that my voice sounds muffled or they cant hear me i had an otterbox defender case on and thought it might be blocking the mic some so i took it off and still i have the same problem anyone kno how to fix this?
My gf usually complains when we talk but the issue is me not holding the phone correctly. Try seeing if maybe your holding the phone a bit far from your mouth or half covering the mic with your hand.

thanks ill try that and see if it works if not i guess ill be getting the note
It's the noise reduction on the phone that's doing that to you, happens to everyone once in a while. Turn it off the in the settings if need be. Otherwise raise your voice momentarily and then talk again normally and it won't happen any more.

No I haven't had issues with background noise since Iv'e shut it off.
I have the same issue as well , I just checked on my noise suppression setting is off.... it's starting to annoy me a lot as people tend to complain all the time that they cannot hear me

I only had the issue when on speaker phone. Unticking noise suppression fixed mine, now everyone is happy
So, I've been suffering from low call volume during calls and I thought my speaker was just really low, or it was a hardware issue, or something. I was reading a forum on another website, and a user had mentioned using a toothbrush to just scrub the speaker grill, anyways I did it and it worked it was just really dirty now I can hear perfectly fine and the notification is really bright too. I actually had to turn the in call volume down. Just give it a shot, you don't really have anything to lose. Hoped I helped.
Hmm, interesting. I would not think simply cleaning the grill holes would make that much of a difference. I don't have any issue with call volume, but good to know. Here is your first "Thanks"!
I will try when I get home.. I can't even use the speaker for calls, I have to use the speakerphone lol. It is so extremely low. I think mine is a hardware issue. I will let you know though.

Uh I will be the first to say it worked! Lol. Didn't think it would but I bought a cheap toothbrush and went to town on the front and back speaker grills. I can actually hear both of them now, in ear calls and the back speaker. Thanks a lot! And here I was about to order parts for it to get repaired.

I can second this. Could barely hear anything in call, but those little holes had lots of debris clogging them. Used a small pin to clear the holes and for once i had to turn the volume down!

I used to have to do this every so often for my palm pre+, I used compressed air though.

Compressed air? I think that might cause some problems, a toothbrush should be sufficient.
Lol... try cleaning your ears aswell .. u might go deaf... cause one x ear phone is loud.. real loud
I think you just saved my One X from the bin with this suggestion. Now I can actually use it as a phone!
Just a warning. I did this last night with a toothbrush and rubbing alcohol. I think it pushed some of the gunk into the power button switch because now it's not picking up every push. If I press the power button hard it will react, but it didn't require much force prior to the cleaning. My LED is much brighter though.

Thanks for posting this fix, this really work i was thinking buy part replacement, now i have to slowdown the volume :good:

The power button is a attached to a ribbon cable that comes up on the back side of the display and lays at the top edge of the phone. I don't see how you could have reached it by brushing the surface of the phone. Its above the front camera.
I also wanted to add that there is a foam material in front of the actual speaker, I'm sure to absorb moisture and soften sound a bit so I wouldn't worry about pushing anything into the speaker too much with a tooth brush.
Adding:
Absolutely TRUE. I don't know how many times I have had the phone apart and I never thought to do this. The LED is SUPER bring and easy to see now and the call volume is better!
OMFG
It Works!!!
Thank you so much for sharing this great tip!! Couldn't hear anything when walking in traffic, but this helped a lot! Plus the LED is so bright now!
amazing!

Yeah, i thought is was my new ROM too because i just changed it, but the toothbrush worked great!
One tip., when the dirt is there for some time(like mine) u REALLY have to pinch trough the little holes to clear them.
Another happy customer..thanks!!!
Also Try This
I posted previously confirming this as a fix. I noticed that I still sometimes suffered from low in call volumes. Here's the fix. While in the call lower your volume all the way and then bring it back up. I am running an AOKP on my galaxy note 2 and I discovered this fix which confirmed my initial belief that it might be my rom or simply the fact that I rooted my device that caused this problem.
Hey check my other reply to this thread
It might help you too!

Hello.
I've gotten pretty frustrated with using my 3a for a while now regarding this specific issue, the call volume is just always super low and makes using the default phone app unbearable because I can hardly hear the other person, it is ALWAYS at max volume btw.
I just genuinely do not understand why the call volume is so low whilst the other volumes (media, alarms, etc) don't seem to have this issue and I can even get additional apps to boost the volume for those- but not the call volume.
It seems to have gotten worse just several days ago when some liquid hit the grill , so now instead of it sounding like someone is 3 feet away from the phone, it just sounds like 6 feet away. But even with this situation, it did NOTHING to my other volume settings.
Is there anything I can do to improve the loudness at all without depending on headphones? I would prefer having the phone on my ear , especially since calls on headphones literally echo whatever gets picked up on my microphone back to me I just honestly hate it.
Get a replacement phone. That's not normal. My call volume gets loud.

Is that really the only possible solution here...?
Everything else is fine...I just cannot find a way to make the call volume louder, just seems like Im stuck putting it on speakers or using headphones at the moment.
