My HTC One X Is Dead?? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi dudes I have a big problem with my htc one x, my cell phone doesn't charge anything (the red led dont turn on and the charge dock doesnt get heat) It didn't crashed or something, it was with low battery and I took borrowed his charge dock (I was in his house), but it didn't charge anything, as I said my cell phone wasn't crashed or hitted by nothing, It just stopped charging, what can I do to revive it? Please help mee :crying::crying:

Did u let it fully die? Sometimes power cycling is not a good idea...shooot.. Doing it isn't good period. Let it stay in charger overnite.. What ROM you running ?

Yes the charge fully died, and turned off, I let it in the power plugged last night the whole night charging and nothing happend, It was working well untill I pluged it with my friend's charger, his charger is 5v 800mA, since I plugged it on, it stopped charging, that might damage my phone? I mean all chargers are the same but , seriously that charger could kill my phone? is weird

Not all chargers are the same. Have you tried using your own charger?
Sent from my Evita

Yeah I tried with 2 diferent chargers but nothing happend, since I plugged in my friend's charger my cell phone doesnt want to charge anything :crying::crying:

What happens when you connect it to a PC? Do you get a connect/disconnect sound at all?
Sent from my Evita

Nothing happens, the red led is off always, dont even't flashes

How often did you power cycle (let it die completely) the device?
Sent from my Evita

ummm that's really weird when it happends, I'm always with my phone charged but yesterday I wasn't able to charge up and it ends with the battery charge

That doesn't really answer the question, how often did you let the phone die completely?
Sent from my Evita

maybe once every 3 weeks or 1 month

Ok. I'd keep trying to charge the phone, but unfortunately this kind of thing does happen with electronic devices from time to time. There's no real way to say exactly what's happened but it's very possible you have a brick.
Sent from my Evita

the last 2 weeks my cellphone was automically rebooting, the bottons of the cell phone (back, home, and the other) start flashing and automatically rebooting, I don't know If that says something what do you think?

Could he possibly hold down vol and power..for a long time...maybe it could get to boot loader,,,,?

I tried but still dead x_x

Power cycling shouldnt bother a mobile phone battery to be fair, unless it's left in a low state for an extended period of time (8% discharge per month roughly) so it's a bit of a misnomer. Lithium batteries should never be fully discharged but as a safeguard you will find when the battery reaches 0% as displayed on the phone the battery is still more than halfway charged to prevent this kind of thing happening. (Most phones register 0% at 3v but the safety threshold is around 2.2v, absolute battery death is 1.5v. Bare in mind at full capacity a cell is 4.2v so your pretty safe when it gets to 0%)
What is more likely an issue is using a faulty charger, there are dozens of cheap chargers which will trash a battery. It is disgusting what gets through the borders from places like China, these things don't have adequate power regulation or filtering. At best you reduce the phone lifespan, at worst it burns the house down. Never ever use a charger than costs less than $15 as there's a reason, decent components cost money unfortunately..
Now, if the device won't charge (a usb 3 port on a pc is ideal as it provides a stable 5v at 900mA or more if a genuine HTC charger isn't available) or switch on you can try removing the battery (be careful as the HTC screen is delicate and there are special tools you need), there are guides on the net or if your not confident then take it to a service centre and they should replace it for you for a fee.. if you buy a new battery off eBay then don't bother with the high capacity as they're fakes, if HTC could cram extra mA into the same size they would - but it's against the laws of physics to get double capacity.
I'm sorry your phone appears dead. I hope it's just the battery, just be very wary about unbranded docks/chargers as they're evil.

Check the Charging port and switch the cable
Maybe the charging port is broken.
On the other side maybe the cable is broken did you try charging another divice with it?
The solution may be simpler than you think.

Friends when I plug in my htc one x to my computer, my computer made a sound, but it didn't detected my cell phone (just made a sound when you plug-in any divice), and my cell phone doesn't charge is there any I can do? Or is dead

You might be able to get a jtag repair done.

Battery Charging Issue

I know there is a bug in which after an overnight charge, the unit is unresponsive unitl you soft reset it. I've read the thread. My TP exhibits this problem as well. However, mine seems to have an additional problem not mentioned in that thread. After charging overnight, my TP IS NOT CHARGED! After an overnight charge, the battery is nearly dead and a soft reset does not fix that. It has happened several times now. After plugging it into the charger before bed, I confirm that the charge light is on and that it shows charging on the status screen, however, THE BATTERY IS NOT CHARGING. Has anyone else experienced this quirk? It doesn't always do this, however, so I'm very confused about what is happening.
Dumb question - but are you using the factory charger? I had a problem when I purchased my Touch Pro in the fact that I used another charger which also was USB for another phone, but for some reason had that problem. Using the charger supplied with the phone fixed it.

Yup. Factory charger and cable. Not a dumb question, BTW. That could have very well been the problem although any USB charger should work.
What about if you turn the phone off and charge?
On a related issue, I used TomTom the other day for a 1 hour trip with the phone on a USB lighter socket charger. Started with 48% full battery, when I finished the battery was down to 30%!!! Basically the phone uses more power than the USB can provide when the screen+GPS is on!! I also find plugging the phone into the charger with the screen on & WiFi on will mean the phone charges at a speed of 1% every 8 minutes - taking all day to charge from empty!
To ease the problems I purchased a separate phone+battery cradle off eBay and a spare battery. I swap to the charged battery every morning and put the other one in to charge. The used battery is usually at 25% after a good days use. Before I did this and charged using the USB plug I used to get 6 hours use before needing to re-charge.
Disconnect the cable from the factory charger and plug in in your PC, see if it charges there. If it does, then you can return your charger, if it doesn't then i'd return my TP.
I have had the Touch Pro for eleven days(got in October 31,2008) and I have issues with the phone. First, I love this phone, however, the battery will not hold a charge. I started with a fully charged battery, used sprint navigation to direct me on a 2 hour trip. My phone was dead by the time I got to my destination. The phone was extremely hot, I mean extremely hot during the entire trip. The next day I took the phone into the sprint store and they switched the battery and told me that the phone check out okay. for the next several days, i used the phone sparingly to see if the battery was okay. I made about 7 calls and 12 text messages, my battery was down 3 bars after being fully charged. I tried the navigation within the city limits and the phone again stared to get hot. My sprint picturemail would not work, it takes hours to send a picturemail. I call customer care and talked with technical support, who did not have a clue about the phone, they had me on hold, researchec, told me to do a few things and then had me to perform a hard reset. The picturemail worked for a few messages and then it started to take hours to send a picturemail. i then went into a sprint store for ready now service to see if there was something I was doing that was causing the battery loss, etc. The CSR in the store did not have a clue about the phone. He went through the computer told me a few things to do and that was it. My battery continued to perform poorly, so I again called customer care and was told afte a serious of conversations and procedures that i need to have the phone replace and that my phone could be defective. They told me to go in to a store and have them make the switch. Well, there are no phones in any of the stores in my area. I call customer care again and asked them to look at the notes on my account and send me a replacement phone, because there are none available in the stores. That was a horror story and i currently have an expensive phone that i have to keep on the charger. i actually purchased a universal charger from sprint that can be used in your car and/or in a wall socket to make certain I don't lose my charge. I think the phone is over priced for how it is operating for me. Sprint should provide an additional battery for the touch pro like they do for the Instinct. The should also include the universal charger in the box. The phone cost to much to not operate better. The sprint picture mail sucks, The sprint TV sucks, but the phone is really nice, if sprint can correct the issues mentioned.
I don't charge it at night cuz i don't like to "overcharge", so i usually charge it when i get home b4 I sleep. I have been considering getting an additional battery with a dedicated battery charger from HTC though. ever gave that a thought?
I seem to be having this same issue with my Fuze that I just got yesterday. After a full night on charger it's at 82%. I'm going to try it over usb on pc to see if it gets any higher otherwise I'll be taking it back to the store today.
The HTC touch pro (with factory ROM) is protected from overloading. Which means that overnight it will load for about 3 hours from an empty battery and then it is full (white light will go from sliding to full circle). After that the charging stops. Which means that if you sleep for 8 hours, the remaining 5 hours your phone will be using the battery.
Now the question remains, what is drianing your battery in 5 hours? The initial suspects are GPS (any GPS software should be cleared from memory, press the most right corner icon to see what's running), the wifi or the HSPA / 3G connection. Use comm manager to put those off.
Of course, the second option is that the charging is not happening because of a defect, in that case return it to the shop.
Pretty sure this is a common problem, I don't think returning the phone will solve a thing.
My phone does the same. Though if you charge it with the phone turned off, it charges fine. I purchased a separate charger and spare battery and just swap them over when I need to (1.5 days with moderate usage).
Pretty sure this is all down to the phone using more power than it should be, hopefully future rom updates will fix this. Even when using Tomtom in the car with the phone charging on a USB cigarette charge cable can't charge it - it actually has less charge at the end of a long journey.
Oh and I can also mention that I have the original HTC battery and two spare batteries (which look like copies with, the HTC sticker is there but not quite the same). The spare batteries act just the same as the original HTC battery.

Battery -6 hours charging - 49%! What is wrong?

I have another problem with battery. I charge TP for 6 hours. after that time it still showing CHARGING, round light bimkning and when I enter battery, it shows 50-70% and charging! when I make soft reset it show full and stop charging, anyone knows how to fix this?, I'm worring about my battery I have oryginal rom. Thanks for reply.
I know that it is in other tread but I try to find solution
Are you using the supplied charger?
This happened to me when I tried to charge it with a Motorola V3 charger.
yes, the original charger is one amper powered which is very strong, all other chargers I have in my car or whereever output much smaller amount in milliampers (starting from 200 mA even). BUT never forget that slower charging is always better to preserve battery durability

oryginal delivered with TP
How long did you charge it the very first time?
dificult to say, i thing over 8 hours, but battery is really ok, it keeps 2-4 days.
i think i got close to an hour wait for 3/4ths charge
so prob about an hour and a half for max???
I had this same problem yesterday. It was at 30% after 4 or 5 hours of charging, then after I reset it, it was at 100%...
had same prob. Fixed after hard reset

HARD reset help
I had this problem and was hesitant to do a hard resent and have to reload and re-enter all my settings.
Turns out I was charging through USB that was connected to a cheap hub that didn't supply enough power to charge the phone. Connecting my sync-USB cable straight to the computer fixed it all.
Silly oversight but it might help somebody with the same issue.
hmm, mine started doing this a few days ago...i do remember I used to have the usb charge hooked up directly to the computer but i noticed it was now connected to the usb hub. Let's hope hooking it directly to the computer fixes it...i can't rmember when i switched it to the hub ;p
EDIT:
yep, connecting it directly to the computer fixed it
Thanks!
even charging throught eh computer is slower than plugging it into teh wall. the usb charging only sends SOME of the power to the phone and therefore takes much more time than charging through a wall outlet...
Same thing happened to my wife's TP. Using Stock 1.90. When charging it would reach 85% and stop there irregardless of how many hours I charged it after that but after using the TP car charger it would resume the charge and reach 100%. So the TP would be normal for a few days and then the same problem would occur. Don't know why though but I would use the car charger to normalise it as soft resetting doesn't work.
Where as I'm using the Stock 5.05 euro without any probs....
i to have been having problems with battery life, and ive noticed as previously mentioned a significant differance between usb and mains charging. i charge my tp every night and last month i started to leave it on the usb rather than putting it on the mains in the bedroom. it was then i noticed a drastic drop in batterly life, after a full day at work (12hr approx) and average use ( txts/emails/games/vids) i wa left with only 10-15% battery. but when i returned to mains charging the same usage now leaves me with 45-55% battery. so now i just stick to mains charging through the night. just my 2 cents
This is what solved my problems...
Turn off your phone and plug it in to the wall, wait until it is fully charged. Then you can turn your phone on, and use it like you regularly would, but use it until you run out of battery, I mean 0%, it turns off randomly. Don't charge it again till it's fully drained.
Then fully charge it again, this time don't plug the phone back in until it reaches 1 or 2%.
Hope that helps!

yep, that's because the USB does not deliver the full power to teh device. that's why charging it via the supplied charger is much more efficient and powerful and lasts longer. USB should not be used to charge unless necessary for this reason
I had the same problem with I first got my Fuze. I even tried the ritual draining and recharging but nothing worked.
So I called AT&T and they swapped my battery for a new one. Problem solved.

[Q] Is my phone dead? :(

1. The phone won't turn on
2. The charging indicator doesn't light up when I try to charge the battery.
3. One of the sensors on the top left turns dim red in color when I connect the charging cable
4. I can't hard reset either
thanks
Did the battery die all the way? Or did you flash a radio without checking the md5? If its a borked radio install say hello to a 500 dollar paper weight if its the battery your gonna have to charge it in another phone cause I'm not sure if cwm 5.0.2.7 has powered off charging

Yes we need a couple of info first. Also we need every information we can get in the last events before the phone got bricked. Like what did you do? what ROM? What's the status of the phone? Battery?
The more the details the better we could assist you.
Sounds like when my first Mytouch 3g broke, it would turn on the first couple of times going into a bootlope at the HBoot. It also didnt respond to charging or any other battery i tried.
Thanks for the reply strapped. I haven't flashed a radio. I did flash the virtuous infinity rom though. I'm not certain if that affected the radio. I did, however, let my battery die all the way. Do you know why one the sensors on the top left corner turns dim red when I connect the charging cable?

Oh crap the battery die all the way problem
I think your battery is dead.s
Saw dozens of problems like this on the my previous device's forum.
Li Ion batteries have this fuse inside it in which it trips off when the battery gets discharged to a certain voltage. If it does your battery goes into a suicide mode in order to protect the phone.
basically the best thing to take good care of your battery is not let it drain lower than 40% and not fully charge it to 90%.
discharging it too low drains it's lifespan drastically. While charging it too high also drains it's lifespan.
Over-discharging Lithium-ion
Li-ion should never be discharged too low, and there are several safeguards to prevent this from happening. The equipment cuts off when the battery discharges to about 3.0V/cell, stopping the current flow. If the discharge continues to about 2.70V/cell or lower, the battery’s protection circuit puts the battery into a sleep mode. This renders the pack unserviceable and a recharge with most chargers is not possible. To prevent a battery from falling asleep, apply a partial charge before a long storage period.
Battery manufacturers ship batteries with a 40 percent charge. The low charge state reduces aging-related stress while allowing some self-discharge during storage. To minimize the current flow for the protection circuit before the battery is sold, advanced Li-ion packs feature a sleep mode that disables the protection circuit until activated by a brief charge or discharge. Once engaged, the battery remains operational and the on state can no longer be switched back to the standby mode.
Do not recharge lithium-ion if a cell has stayed at or below 1.5V for more than a week. Copper shunts may have formed inside the cells that can lead to a partial or total electrical short. If recharged, the cells might become unstable, causing excessive heat or showing other anomalies. Li-ion packs that have been under stress are more sensitive to mechanical abuse, such as vibration, dropping and exposure to heat.

Cheers guys. Here's every bit of information I can recollect
A few days ago I created a nandroid backup and formatted my sd card via the PC.
I flashed the latest version of CWM recovery
I flashed the virtuous infinity rom 1.33 alpha v3 and then flashed the 1.35 beta 1 update.
Then i copied some music on to the SD card and installed a couple of apps.... nothing out of the ordinary.
The phone worked fine the last couple of days but I don't remember letting the battery die all the way. I should add that I have a dodgy battery; a couple of months ago my dear girlfriend spilled her drink and beer went in to back of my phone... since then the keyboard doesn't work (some keys work but its basically dead) and the battery has been affected as well since it now only lasts 3-4 hours after a full charge....but this issue can't have caused the problem I'm now having because the dead keyboard and dodgy battery have been around for a few months...
Last night, however, I think I let the battery die all the way and at some point, when I tried to turn it on, the phone vibrated as it does when you hold the power button, however, the screen didn't turn on. Since then, nothing has changed. When I connect the phone to the PC, it makes a couple of "connection" noises but I can't access the SD card or contents.
by saying latest CWM is it the 6.0 touch based CWM by chance?
sorry mate, i meant 5..0.2.7.
That's the CWM I'm using so it's safe. I'm also on latest VI for weeks without problem.
So it all points out to your battery.
Phone vibrating to power button means it's responding perfectly. Not sure about the light on the sensor only htc technician can tell.
But what I can say is if your trackpad button lights out red always then you got a brick on your hand.
Nope the trackpad isn't red so I guess that's a good sign. I've ordered a new battery and should have it later this week. Let's see if that fixes the issue. Will report back. Thanks all!
So, a new battery has arrived, however, it hasn't helped as the phone won't charge (no orange light) or turn on...... Since I live in Australia, I don't know anyone else with this phone. Is there any other way for me to revive my brick of a phone?? Thanks

Get a universal charger for your battery.
Sent from Spaceball One.
This is a rough situation. Even with my DS I've had situations where nothing would happen when I tried to restart it, in particular when I let the system run all the way down. It is as if the battery needs to have some charge for it to charge more. I have three batteries though (the stock & two Anker 1900's) so when this happens I just swap out the battery with one that I charged in the external charger, and I haven't had any real issues with them long-term. Since you bought a battery, what battery was it, and do you think it was charged when you got it, and do you have an external charger to verify that the charge is solid when you put it back in the phone? Your phone may be completely dead however, but at this point, I don't think anybody on the thread really can tell. This make sense? I don't want to say, "buy a set of Anker 1900's with an external charger" but it was cheap enough vs. the cost of the phone, and the DS does seem to be a good one overall.
Hi All,
So I got an external charger for the battery and it arrived yesterday. I then proceeded to charge the battery and hours later, no luck. The phone still doesn't turn on. When I hit the power button, one of the sensors on the top left turns red slightly, shortly after which the phone vibrates. However, it doesn't turn on.
Where do I go from here?
Thanks
have you tried to disassemble your phone at all? you said liquid was spilled in it, could take time for corrosion to turn up. maybe a little electronic parts cleaner or rubbing alcohol may help out
Nope I haven't tried to disassemble it yet but is that the only option remaining? If yes, I might have to give it a go because this phone is now as useful to me as a brick, in its current state.

Bad news... I had the exact same thing happen to me. To be honest, I got my 4GSlide off of eBay, and it was a little flakey then (seemed to be picky about sdcards on boot), but it was basically fine. Then a few weeks after I got, it developed the exact same problem you describe. No idea why. I tried everything: different chargers, different batteries (bought a new OEM original battery), no sdcard, fiddled with USB settings... Nothing. The only way I could use it was by charging the spare batteries in an external charger so I could swap when they were empty. At the same time as this happened, the USB port stopped working when plugged into a PC (device unrecognised, even with HTC Sync, even though it worked before). Clearly something serious was going on. I took it to a couple of the best phone repair shops in my area and both were stumped, saying the only way it could be fixed was by replacing the whole motherboard. In the end I bit the bullet and I got another one off of eBay a couple of weeks ago (perhaps a questionable choice, but I really like the phone and its keyboard).
So... I can't say for sure, but if you're having the same problem as me, you probably won't have much choice other than getting a new device.

when you run the battery down to 0, there is always the risk that it will not charge again. batteries have a safety in them, if the charge gets too low, the safety trips, and the battery will not charge again.
unfortunately, you will likely have to buy a new battery.

there is one way i have heard about, but never tried it.
basically, you need to remove the battery from the phone, then cut the end off a usb cable and expose the 2 charging wires, then touch the power wires to the proper terminals on the battery.
important note, you only want to do this for a couple minutes at a time, then let it rest for a couple minutes. prolonged charging like this could cause the battery to explode, because you dont have the safety regulation thats built into the phone.
you should only have to do this for a couple times, then the battery should be past the low safety level and will charge properly in the phone.
if you want to try it, search youtube for help, i have sen some videos on there about it before.
