Battery -6 hours charging - 49%! What is wrong? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I have another problem with battery. I charge TP for 6 hours. after that time it still showing CHARGING, round light bimkning and when I enter battery, it shows 50-70% and charging! when I make soft reset it show full and stop charging, anyone knows how to fix this?, I'm worring about my battery I have oryginal rom. Thanks for reply.
I know that it is in other tread but I try to find solution

Are you using the supplied charger?
This happened to me when I tried to charge it with a Motorola V3 charger.

yes, the original charger is one amper powered which is very strong, all other chargers I have in my car or whereever output much smaller amount in milliampers (starting from 200 mA even). BUT never forget that slower charging is always better to preserve battery durability

oryginal delivered with TP

How long did you charge it the very first time?

dificult to say, i thing over 8 hours, but battery is really ok, it keeps 2-4 days.

i think i got close to an hour wait for 3/4ths charge
so prob about an hour and a half for max???

I had this same problem yesterday. It was at 30% after 4 or 5 hours of charging, then after I reset it, it was at 100%...

had same prob. Fixed after hard reset

HARD reset help

I had this problem and was hesitant to do a hard resent and have to reload and re-enter all my settings.
Turns out I was charging through USB that was connected to a cheap hub that didn't supply enough power to charge the phone. Connecting my sync-USB cable straight to the computer fixed it all.
Silly oversight but it might help somebody with the same issue.

hmm, mine started doing this a few days ago...i do remember I used to have the usb charge hooked up directly to the computer but i noticed it was now connected to the usb hub. Let's hope hooking it directly to the computer fixes it...i can't rmember when i switched it to the hub ;p
EDIT:
yep, connecting it directly to the computer fixed it
Thanks!

even charging throught eh computer is slower than plugging it into teh wall. the usb charging only sends SOME of the power to the phone and therefore takes much more time than charging through a wall outlet...

Same thing happened to my wife's TP. Using Stock 1.90. When charging it would reach 85% and stop there irregardless of how many hours I charged it after that but after using the TP car charger it would resume the charge and reach 100%. So the TP would be normal for a few days and then the same problem would occur. Don't know why though but I would use the car charger to normalise it as soft resetting doesn't work.
Where as I'm using the Stock 5.05 euro without any probs....

i to have been having problems with battery life, and ive noticed as previously mentioned a significant differance between usb and mains charging. i charge my tp every night and last month i started to leave it on the usb rather than putting it on the mains in the bedroom. it was then i noticed a drastic drop in batterly life, after a full day at work (12hr approx) and average use ( txts/emails/games/vids) i wa left with only 10-15% battery. but when i returned to mains charging the same usage now leaves me with 45-55% battery. so now i just stick to mains charging through the night. just my 2 cents

This is what solved my problems...
Turn off your phone and plug it in to the wall, wait until it is fully charged. Then you can turn your phone on, and use it like you regularly would, but use it until you run out of battery, I mean 0%, it turns off randomly. Don't charge it again till it's fully drained.
Then fully charge it again, this time don't plug the phone back in until it reaches 1 or 2%.
Hope that helps!

yep, that's because the USB does not deliver the full power to teh device. that's why charging it via the supplied charger is much more efficient and powerful and lasts longer. USB should not be used to charge unless necessary for this reason

I had the same problem with I first got my Fuze. I even tried the ritual draining and recharging but nothing worked.
So I called AT&T and they swapped my battery for a new one. Problem solved.

Slow charging

I have decided to move this post from the issues thread to a dedicated one to give it better visibility. If no one else is getting this problem then I will probably return the device.
I have the excellent "devstate" today plugin application installed which gives the battery charge level in 1% steps. When I say slow, it takes around 3 mins to increase by 1% which means it will take 4 hours for 80% charge (too long) when this is the case, the back doesn't heat up.
I have seen it charge much faster on one occasion i.e. around 1% a minute and the back was warming up (this is logical if more current is flowing) I was wondering the cause of the slow charge is that the device thinks it is connected to a pc and the charging current is limited. Also when you plug the cable sometimes the menu pops up asking whether you want to enter activesync/disk drive mode but doesn't on other occasions. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it.
Another observation is that a soft reeboot occasionaly gives wildly varying battery levels for example before reboot the charge might be 100% and straight after the reboot 90%, or 83% before and 100% after. Interestingly before turning on the device for the first time I fully charged the battery, but up on boot up it was reporting 60%! (maybe it didn't charge at all when it was switched off and 60% was the initial amount of charge the battery came with) Have I got a duff battery or some issue with the device itself?
I seems like the battery charges fast up to 75% at around 1% a minute but then slows down to 1% every 3 to 4 minutes. Maybe this is the charging profile for this battery. Has anyone else noticed this?
Here are a couple of threads from the diamond section regarding the sort of issues I am experiencing but there doesn't seem to be a conclusive fix.

Could people please answer the following questions to help me decide whether I have a faulty device/battery or some ROM issue which all of us have. I have the stock UK touch pro ROM 1.90.405.1 WWE.
1) If you fully charged the battery before powering on for the first time, what was you battery charge level immediately after power on?
2) Have you noticed fluctuating charging rates?
3) Soft reboot gives different battery charge levels.
Just a quick Q, which charger are you using? Can you just post the amp / volt data printed onto it for us?
I am using the one that came with the touch pro, model no TC P300, its output rating is 5V at 1A. Input rating 100-240V
I have also tried the mda vario III charger and I get similar results i.e. fast charge up to 75% then slow afterwards.
As i stated in the other tread with the "Raphael issues" i have the same problem.
When i use the shiny new charger with the "usb-mini usb" cable i takes 7-8 hours to completely charge the device. (output is 5V-1A)
However, when i use my good old Hermes charger, or any other 5V-1A charger, it goes to 100% in about 3 hours.
Mine charges up to 90% from 10% in less than 3 hours after which it stays @ 90% (According to the built in battery meter of the device) forever. Is it a faulty battery or its supposed to be like that?

And do you get varying battery levels on soft reboot?
3 hours is probably what I would get i.e. "75% at 1% a minute = 75 mins" PLUS "25% at 1% every 4 mins = 100 mins" giving a total of 175 mins.
question is that is this behaviour normal for touch pro or only present on
some device/battery/chargers.
I also have another issue, this time regarding interference on speaker, see this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419761
If only my touch pro has these faults then I want to replace it asap, especially when having paid £500 for it.

Yes i do get varying levels on reboot, but i got that with my Hermes and Magician too. So i wouldn't worry about it. Usually when you softreset while it's charging you get a higher battery reading then you should have, but it wil drop after some time to it's real level.

This happens when its not charging. I don't get this with the vario III. Maybe it is ROM dependant. The other concern was after having charged the device fully when switched off, it reported 60% on power up. I might let the battery drain to a low level then charge when switched off to see whether it charges at all. Some diamond owners were also reporting this.
Hmm, got the same thing tonight with my Hermes charger, has been charging for 6 hours and still not fully charged, now at about 80%. Very strange. Are there more people experiencing this?

This didn't appear to happen to me on the first charge, but I turned it on immediately after putting the battery and SIM in place, and then I charged (I don't remember what the initial battery charge was). I've not noticed such wildly inaccurate readings after reboot either. I haven't specifically checked for inaccuracy in the battery meter, but I would (probably) have noticed such a big difference.
Have you tried to do a full discharge and charge cycle? This is necessary after around every 30th charge to recalibrate the gauge so that it is as accurate as possible. I know yours probably haven't gone through 30 charges yet, but it may be worth trying.

This is normal for lithium-ion batteries. The last 20% or so can take as long as the first 80% to charge.

When charging I usually leave mine overnight, so I think I've only charged it once during the day, and then I think this was through USB while connected to the PC so it may have been a bit longer than 'normal' (3-4 hours) for that reason. I'll keep an eye at it next time I do it during the day.
Six hours plus sounds far too long though, do you have a chance of trying the battery in another device, or another battery in your device?

Nope, don't have a second Touch Pro around here, but this is really annoying, I need a fully charged battery in the morning. If this is hardware related i'd return it to get a replacement.
hmm, this is interesting.....so just to clarify we are seeing slower charging with the bundled adapter: which is essentially an AC to USB power transformer?? If the USB port on that (yes i know its power only) is capable of supplying only a standard ammount of juice then your battery may charge to 100% as slowly as from a pc or car charger..
..id like to perhaps see if i can meter the current and voltage coming from it but would need me to cobble together a breadboard with the relevent power points.
Is the hermes / kaiser charger charging it fully in less time?? (to clarify)

Yes I drained the battery till the phone switched off by itself but still have this problem. I suspect there is a problem either with the phone itself or the battery as supposed to a ROM issue. I thought all the clever charging circuit is in the battery these days and it's the battery which reports it's charge level to the device too. If this is true then probably the battery is faulty but I am not going to buy another one just to find out. I'll try to get a replacement for the touch pro tomorrow when the shops open.

It is, but even so the gauge (in the battery) needs recalibration once in a while, hence the full discharge/charge cycle every 30th charge or so (other than that it is recommended to charge li-ion batteries often, and not deplete them fully).
Your next port of call is probably to see if another battery makes a difference.

Today I charged my phone from empty to full while connected to the PC, which took around 3 hours 30 minutes (phone not used except to check charge levels towards the end).
the charging cycle on mine has been a little erratic too.
I put it on charge at 9pm last night, at 6.30 this morning it was at 88%. 9 hours and not fully charged!!...still, 3 hours later and it's on 87%. so I think its more a case of requiring a few charge/discharge cycels to settle the guage down a bit.
This night it fully charged in 5 hours. While yesterday it wasn't completely charged in over 8 hours. There doesn't seem to be a pattern in this.
Yesterday it was showing 48% battery level at one time, a soft reset later 28%, another soft reset and it was 24%. Today I have sent it back for a replacement. Can those people affected by this issue please state where they bought it from, in order to figure out whether it might be a faulty batch. I bought mine from clove technology in the UK.

Whilst I don't have any exact figures to hand, my hermes charger took about 45 mins (Give or take a little.)
I've been using the standard Raphael charger today and charged from 50% and it's still going after 1 hour 20 mins and only at 90%
I know the final 80% takes a lot longer, but even so.....

[Q] Battery Staying at 100%

I've noticed that the battery meter will sometimes stay at 100% for a while and then all of the sudden drop to the actual percentage sometime later. A reboot after unplugging the phone will fix the problem and report the battery % at the correct level. I was wondering how many other people were experiencing this, or if it is just a hit or miss thing?
I'm still on stock, unrooted, no mods. It's a straight out of the box Skyrocket.
Also, does the problem remain after rooting, modding, etc.?
I asked this on the battery results thread in general, and only received one response, so I figured this would be better in Q&A.
I had the same issue, but it has only happened one or two times.
Showed 100% for hours then rebooted and it showed 73%
I don't know how long you've had your phone, but it takes several cycles from full to empty for the battery to calibrate correctly. During that time you can get some really funky readings on it.
I am experiencing the same problem.
I've also had a hard time charging the phone. I've left it plugged in upwards of 18 hours, only to find it saying its only 83% charged. That may just be another symptom of the same problem though.
Do you think this is a phone or a battery issue?

That sounds like you were plugged into a pc vs ac power and had heavy usage during that time.
Mine charges very quickly when at idle and plugged into the wall.
I've had my phone since the day it launched (the 6th) and just experienced this for the first time yesterday. It was indeed quite odd to see.
I have had this happen one time. I also noticed the phone got very hot.
It actually happend yesterday, stayed at 100% almost all day then just shut off and wouldnt reboot.... freaked me out!!

I think that the battery is pretty wonky. I am not sure if the NFC addition is causing these issues but some people are having amazing life ans some people (me included) get horrible. I am getting a warranty exchange on my battery. No way I should drop 12% in an hour and 20 minutes when the only usage is 19 minutes of checking email. If I have to have it plugged in every time I turn around it is not exactly a wireless device now is it?

I think we narrowed it down to being a bad charging circuit in the phone or battery triggered by a .1a charger.

I was powering my phone off, plugging the power in and allowing it to recharge. The phone would automatically power on as soon as I connected the power but I didn't think that mattered. It turns out it did. If I powered the phone on and then connected the power, the battery meter would work correctly.
This was different the Captivate I had previously. That phone had the capability to charge while powered off. There was even a charging graphic that displayed while the phone was off.
The Skyrocket did not have this same feature when I originally bought it. However, ATT did an update at some point and now it does. I've been unable to re-create the stuck battery gauge since that update.
please only use the charger that came with the phone. other chargers, after prolonged usage, may cause issues.
The charger that came with most skyrockets is a .1a charger and causes the issue as well. A few reported getting .7a chargers in the box but most have been .1
I have tested the iPhone charger theory on 5 phones now. Phone 1 and 2 experienced the issue. Phones 3-5 did not

From day 1 with the skyrocket, I have used an old wall charger and cable and had this problem daily. I plug it in at night and in the morning, it's at 100% until I reboot, or some other random event that drops the percentage to the real battery stats.
Because of this thread, I dug out the box and used the wall charger and cable that came with it, and this morning shortly after unplugging the phone, it was at 99% and dropping, just as it should. Very glad I tried this.

I did a recheck of my black cube SR wall charger (Samsung part # ETA0U80JBE).. It is NOT .1a it is 1.0amps - which - interestingly enough is EXACTLY what my iPhone3g power cube right next to it delivers.
The .7am Samsung charger has the usb connector on the side, and is part number ETA0U60JBE - delivering 5v at .7 amps (30% decrease over the little cube device). That was the charger my SGS-II had. My S/R came with the 1.0 amp ETA0U80JBE version.
One amp will charge the phone MUCH faster than the USB port. Per the spec, the typical USB device cannot drain more than 500mA (1/2 of what the power cube supplies to the phone).
Unfortunately Apple and Samsung both have the cubes pretty well locked up, so I cant compare the components, but at a first glace they appear to be absolutely identical, both putting out about 5.1 volts at zero load.

[Q] Does not recognize battery

Hello everybody!
I have a tranformer tf101 with + / - 6 months of use. After being stopped a few weeks (drained battery) it no longer charge and the system does not recognize the battery. When I plug the charger he starts the boot and not charge the battery. In settings with the battery status is "unknown" and a question mark on top.
I've given a factory reset and nothing. Has also has opened the tablet and unplugged and plugged the battery again. I did a test trying to turn on the device without battery and it turned on like before, like when connected (interrogation and status unknown).
The charger is apparently working, coz is charging dock.
I can not send to warranty because I live in Brazil...
Can anyone give me a light? Have researched a lot and found nothing ...
Thank you all!

thanks for the reply! I've done it, one entire day on energy and other day directly to the USB... But nothing!
Well... It might be possible that the battery is busted from being discharged for so long.
Although... Does it work on battery or does it instantly die when you unplug it?
When I disconnect die instantly! But if is on dock, he stay on
Yeah sounds like the battery is busted then. It works from the dock because the dock acts as a charger for the tablet, just like the 'real' charger.
Strange how a battery with six months of use given problem.
Would if I try to put a higher charge on it (20v) and force her to reactivate might work?
Batteries only last so long, and yours sounds like it is shot.
It's very strange that yours went bad after such a short amount of time.
If the charger charges the dock but not the Transformer, then it's not the charger.
You could possibly buy a replacement battery and perform the surgery yourself.
Other than that, RMAing is the only thing that can be done.

Software should not be the problem, right?

It not that strange. Its not the age per se thats the issue here - its that it was discharged for so long. Once a battery reaches a certain level, it simply wont charge anymore.
Applying 20v will just blow the fuse in the TF, or worse - fry the whole thing... Dont do that
I read somewhere the fuse blows at 17v or something.
And even if we ignore the tablet for a second, applying higher voltage to the battery will just kill the few cells still alive.
And, in worst case, it can even cause the battery to explode, possibly starting a fire and/or damage a person. Although thats not likely with such a low over-volting as 20v. Im just trying to tell you not to put more voltage on a batter than its designed to get
The only way to 'possibly' repair a dead battery is to trickle-charge it, meaning applying a low voltage over a period of time.
Hello Goatshocker!
This charge 20V must be made directly to the battery and not in TF, it really would kill him! And it would be just a "scare" the battery in about 2 seconds only, the rest of the charge would be normally done after (15v). I've done this with cell phone battery several times!
As the battery is dead it seems, think it's the only option.
But before doing so I'll take you on an assistance to make sure it is the battery.

And it would be just a "scare" the battery in about 2 seconds only, the rest of the charge would be normally done after (15v). I've done this with cell phone battery several times!

Ah yes, you are quite correct about that. I completely forgot about that method.
Yes, that might indeed work. But I would only do that as a last-resort, although you seem to be quite out of other alternatives
I took him in an assistance yesterday. Tomorrow should tell me the problem. Depending on the result already do the "scare" on battery.
then put the result here!
I had a similar problem. I tried connecting it to different sockets and it finaly charged.

whath kind of sockets you used?
Unfortunately, the overcharging did not work! The battery was completely dead, not sure how this is possible! But it's a valuable tip! The battery dock is the same tablet. So I changed them and I was working with the tablet and dock only works on energy.
Can anyone advise me a reliable site to purchase this battery? The model is ASUS C21-EP101
ty all!

Phone won't recognise charger

This is a strange one. When I connect USB to my computer the device shows up, I also get the option for USB tethering on the phone... however it does not indicate that it is charging. The charger works in other phones and I've even tried using a proper charger (i.e. not a usb cable).
Now the thing is, I'm not sure if it's not charging. When I turn the phone on I have 11% battery and get a notification about it and told to plug in a charger, and when I plug it in the message does not come back - although the battery % stays on 11.
Are the Motorola USB drivers installed?

They are installed on my PC yes, although I don't see what that has to do with it?
I'm asking the stupid questions first, lol...
Which USB ports are you using, try connecting to a port on the motherboard (proper +5V) if not?
I have the same problem with a nokia lumia 920 charger, the charger works in others phones and some time before works in my phone too

Like I said, I've tried using a direct mains charger too. The USB connection from phone to computer is fine as I can transfer files etc. It just won't charge regardless of what cable I use.
That said though, the battery has been on 11% for a long time. Makes me think that it has actually been charging (or else it would have decreased/died) and it's just the reading that is stuck? I've tried switching to icon mode then % but it's still on 11. Is there a way to recalibrate it? The phone is barely a month old so it's surely not a hardware issue.

When I got mine the battery hung on 31% for ages then dropped to 0% and rebooted. Since then I cycled it through a few times without connecting the charger until it was flat and then charged it to max and left it for a few hours at least. It came good after that and I've had no problems. According to Motorola to recalibrate the battery state it should be left for charge once fully charged for a few hours extra.
I've had mine for a few weeks.
It doesn't seem to change either side of 11% whether I charge it or not. I guess I'll just have to plug it in for a few hours and assume it's fully charged?
It took me ~4 and 1/2 hours to charge it fully using the 500mAh Moto charger from 0%, but I did it the other way around--I used it till it was flat first.

When you go to Settings > Battery, it is supposed to tell you whether it's charging.

It actually says charging now, but it continues to say that even when I remove the charger.
Also my battery has finally dropped from 11% to 10%, that is after around 7 hours use...

If its happened should restart the phone and it will than recognize the charger.

I don't mean to be rude but don't you think I might have already tried turning it off and on?

That's very peculiar... It might indicate something wrong at the firmware level. You are running the standard ROM, are you?
I'd advise to jump some factory resets / firmware (re)install hoops.
I'm running Beanstalk ROM but the creator is already getting very cranky with me for suggesting it might be a bug in that
Unless you can reproduce the behaviour with the stock firmware, Beanstalk is the prime suspect.
But it could be a file/driver corruption, hence the suggestion to reinstall.
Same problem with XT1033 on Stock 4.4 ROM
on stock 4.4 ROM same problem i am facing, even after 1-2 hours charging its showing same % of battery.
but after a restart its coming to normal condition & shows charging icon.
I charged my phone last night (still on 10%), brought it out with me and during use it cut out and would not turn on. I kept trying to turn on by either pressing power on or pressing power & vol down. A couple of times I got to the bootloader but that was it. When I got home I plugged it into a charger and it came up with a white screen with an empty battery graphic.
Now my phone will not turn on no matter what I do, even when plugged in.

Charging problem

Hello,
I am using u 11 about 2 weeks. There was no problem but last night i plugged the phone to charger when i woke up it had still %18 power. the graph about battery is down below.
i replugged it and it charged normally
what can causes problem like this? it happened one more time but i didnt care about now it is second time so should i worry about it?
Btw i cleaned the charger and the phone right after first time happened. i think it is not dust problem and also it is 2 week phone.
original adaptor and cable.
you see on the graph it slightly increased at night.

I've had the same problems and I think the internal plug is going bad, I've had mine about 2 months now and don't want to send it in because I don't think it should be going out already, but I might be left with no alternative
My phone charges bad to. With all the different cords I use, they all started to fall out at times. Poor usb port in phone.
