Roam Only Options? - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have to Roam in my office since I only get 1x 800 and not LTE over 800 MHz
I just came from an HTC One which was easy to modify and make "Roam Only" an option under the network preferences.
What is the best option for the Samsung Galaxy s 5 and roam only? I have a corporate account so I roam on Verizon 3g for free.

[Q] 3G900 on O2 UK

I have not been able to find much information about this at all, and totally forgot about it.
My 3G coverage is absolutely **** at home, but 2G is pretty decent. According to the coverage map on O2's site, I should have good 2G and 3G indoors and outdoors, but as I said, I'm lucky to get even 1 bar inside.
My question is this, how do I know what spectrum the Desire S is using? I know it supports 900 MHz 3G, but how do I check if it's using it or not? Or is there any way to force it? Because I haven't seen any improvement since the 3G900 switched on, is there anything to do with the radio perhaps?
Bump !?!?!?!?!
It's a matter of checking what networks are appearing and working out from there which one is which frequency spectrum, for me I have a Telstra Mobile (GSM), Telstra Mobile 3G (850hz) and 3Telstra (2100hz).
Scan and see what networks appear, then even Google their individual names and see if you get any responses as to what spectrum they are.

I know that my network (O2 UK) recently activated their 3G/HSPA services on the 900 Mhz band (in addition to the 2100 Mhz), in order to extend coverage.
See this: http://blog.o2.co.uk/home/2011/05/superfast-900mhz-3g-explained.html
My question is that because I have seen no difference, even in the major city centres listed there, is there a way to find out if my phone is actually trying to use the 900 Mhz band for 3G or is it just staying on 2100 Mhz, how to check, any way to force?.. etc etc etc

[Q] What US Carrier is the International GTab 7.0 plus (P6200) fully compatible with?

Sorry for what is probably a stupid question.
I am thinking of buying an International version of the 7.0 plus (P6200) but I'm having a hard time figuring out which US Carrier, if any, (AT&T, T-Moble or Verizon) is fully compatible with the table's supported frequencies.
Any help in pointing me to the carrier, that will allow the tablet to get 3g data and allow the tablet to make phone calls, would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if you are using a P6200 in the US, I would be interested in what carrier you use, your opinions of the carrier and your opinion of the tablet in general.
Thank you

Does no one know the answer or is the question so simple it is basic knowledge I should already know?
I'm not familar witht eh international model but I can tell you that it won't work with Sprint or Verizon as they are CDMA and not GSM. So that leaves T-Mobile and AT&T and it would depend upon what frequency the GTab7+ recieves, is it tri-band (850, 1800, 1900) or just a single band? AT&T uses 850/1900 MHz and T-Moblile 1900 MHz for 3G service. I would assume that it would be tri-band as are so called "world phones".
TMo also requires UMTS1700.
So almost surely it will NOT get 3G service on TMo. That's why there is a special Tmo variant.
Don't know about AT&T
Thank you for your reply!
Here are the listed frequencies for the tablet
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100
it appears that it supports all the frequencies for AT&T and T-Mobile. I guess my confusion is I can't tell if the tablet will support 3G or just 2G (wouldn't be worth it if all I could get is 2G).

Ahh, that is what I was looking for. As much as I dislike them, seems I will need to go with AT&T if I get this tablet.
Thank you very much, both of you!
Sorry I got a little confused between tabs and phones. Verizon uses EV-DO (CDMA based) for 3G and AT&T is HSDPA (GSM based) at 1900 MHz. T-Mobile uses 1700 and 2100 MHz for 3G.
warning, if you plan on using as phone and tab, at&t may want to make sure you are on tab data plan as well an it could be pricey for both.
with that being said Im using this on att with voice and unlimited grandfathered smartphone data. havent heard a word from them. I pray it stays this way. I will fight them for it.
conclusion: best mobile device in the world right now IMHO, until 7.7 comes out.
P6200 and iPhone SIM
Hi all,
just to make sure...
If I get the P6200, can I just pop my iPhone 3gs SIM with unlimited data plan (as long as I don't use it too much)?
I saw someone said they can do that on the 7.7 thread but I wanted to make sure the AT&T iPhone SIM isn't restricted to iPhones somehow.
Thanks
O
I have GT-P620900 from the Philippines and I am my tablet in the US now. I tested using at&t sim card and it works when I tried making a call using sim card (gsm).

Hi Neogrin,
With the posted frequencies:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100
it will work perfectly for 3G (HSDPA/HSPA+) speeds only on AT&T. You should get 2-4 Mbps downlink, or maybe even more with a good signal on AT&T.
Unfortunately for T-Mobile (whom I also prefer over AT&T), it will only work on their 2G network, at EDGE speeds, which would be about 200 Kbps if you are lucky. Actually, EDGE speeds are good enough for twitter, facebook, and a bit of surfing, but would be frustratingly slow for YouTube or downloading apps.
The Tab 7plus will NOT work on Sprint or Verizon as their CDMA, LTE, and WiMax networks are different technology from GSM and HSDPA and thus not compatible.
Internationally, the 7plus should work on almost any 2G or 3G network, with maybe a few country exceptions here and there.
BTW if you decide to activate your 7plus on AT&T, I can share a bit of experience. I received a Tab 7.7 3G this week, with a similar frequency list to the 7plus. (Unfortunately, it also lacks the "AWS" 1700/2100 band for T-Mobile). I went to an AT&T store today to activate the 7.7 on a month-to-month data plan, of US$25 for 2GB with US$10 per each 1GB of overage. They were not able to assign the data plan in their system to me, because the 7.7 3G is not an AT&T device. The same will be true for your 7plus. What they did to get it to work was to take the IMEI number from one of the other tablets they had on display in the store - making sure it was an HSDPA tablet, and not an LTE one - and used that to activate my account. It took them a while to figure this out, but when they did, it worked. Once the account was activated, and the SIM card was in my 7.7, it found AT&T service and I immediately got a welcome text message. However, data did not yet work - for that I had to do one more thing, which the staff did not know about (but luckily I did).
Go into Settings->Wireless and Networks->Mobile Network Settings
In there is an "Access Point Names" item.
Click on this, and you should see some entries. If it's a new AT&T SIM, it likely says "Cingular 410" or "wap.cingular" or something. This would be correct for a phone, but does not work with tablet data plans, so we need to add the correct one.
Bring up the menu, and there should be a "New APN" option. Select this. In the form which comes up, in the "Name" field, enter "broadband" (one word, no caps, without the quotes). In the "APN" field, do the same - "broadband" one word, no caps, no quotes.
Once you've done this, hit the menu again, and there should be a "Save" option. Choose this, and it will take you back to the list of APNs. Now in the list there should be an APN item called "broadband" which you just created. Press the radio button to the far right of the broadband item. It should turn green.
Give the tablet a few seconds, or a minute, and data should start working!
Hope this helps.

AT&T LTE Phones on T-Mobile's LTE network

So T-Mobile seems to be ramping up their LTE coverage and my area seems to be one of the LTE markets.
I was wondering, would now be a good time to buy an AT&T Android LTE phone (like the Note 2 or GS3)?
I'm not entirely clear if the LTE on those AT&T phones will work with the current/future T-Mobile LTE network.
Right now I'm currently using an iPhone 4 on T-Mobile. I get spotty 3G coverage since I'm in one of the 1900MHz refarmed areas. Would using an AWS LTE compatible AT&T phone let me get T-Mobile LTE service?
Is T-Mobile eventually going to get rid of their 3G service on the 1700MHz frequency so they can use it for LTE and then put their 3G service on the 1900MHz frequency?
I can't afford a brand new phone, but when it comes to used phones it always seems that AT&T ones are cheaper to buy than T-Mobile equivalent.

It has been my understanding that AT&T and T-Mobile smartphones are network cross-compatible because they use the same bands for HSPDA and LTE. So as long as you have the following, you should be good to go.
First and most important: ***Phone Unlocked***
The correct sim for the carrier.
The correct APN settings for the carrier. (If this isn't auto-populated after the new sim is in the phone, you can search here on XDA for them.)
Lastly, apply any patches/fixes/tweaks for the particular device where needed. (if needed)
As for this network cross-compatibility changing in the future, odds are that it probably will not happen any time soon as this would be very costly for the carrier to change so soon after launching the LTE service. Post-LTE, maybe, but that is at least another 10 years away if I had to guess. :fingers-crossed:

Droid Ultra WalMart Family Mobile 4G LTE

I was reading in the Nexus forums about the use of hybrid radios to enable 4g lte while on walmart family mobile (t-mobile). I was just wondering if there are any ways i could enable LTE use on my droid ultra.
Lte should work once you set your settings go to Lte gsm and umts. When I had it set to that, I was having issues with messaging. Had to go with gsm and umts only to get messaging to work.

Photon Q works on T-Mobile LTE

Hi All,
I was recently on holidays in the USA which using my Photon Q sim modded by Cornholio I was able to get LTE on T-Mobile. This was only in areas where they have re-farmed 1900 mhz (band 2) to LTE. I'm not sure if this makes a difference but I also changed nv 6828 for 1900mz bands 2 & 25. So in theory LTE should work on AT&T where they use 1900 mhz band 2 LTE. AT&T was was coming up a lot when I was doing a network search. It is listed as AT&T 4g.
Regards,
Sebastian

I've never played with any of this, but I'm an AT&T user in US... what exactly are you saying to try setting in the phone in order to try to get LTE on AT&T.... and if there's any way to know if AT&T is using that band in a particular area?

Hi,
This is what I did with my phone to get LTE was the following: Using the phone dialer
*#*#4636#*#* and in phone information menu change data to LTE/GSM/WCDMA
##3282# and in the LTE menu make sure that you have LTE as enabled, if not edit the value to enabled. You need to use the msl code for your phone to do this. I have an app to do this if you need.
To see if AT&T 1900 LTE is available in your area, go into settings, mobile network settings, network operators and choose the option search networks. A list of available networks will come up. If you have AT&T 1900 LTE band 2 available, this will be listed as AT&T 4G. Tap on this and you should be able to get LTE. The Photon Q lists LTE as 4G in the status bar on the top of the phone.
Hope that this is some help
