[Q] One SV Root - Out of touch! - HTC One SV

Hi All,
A friend has asked me to help root his HTC One SV, but it's been a while since I rooted my own HTC Desire. Back then I was pretty well versed in the process but having looked around the forums I now appear to be out of touch with the terminology somewhat!
It's a UK model One SV bought through T-Mobile, running Android 4.2.2. I've gotten to the point where I'm ready to unlock the bootloader (using the HTC Dev site) but stopped at the warning that the phone will be factory reset so we're going to make a few more backups first, just in case.
Then I have a copy of a Clockworkmod recover which I can flash, and a SuperUser.zip file to install, all as per the instructions here:
http://theunlockr.com/2013/07/16/how-to-root-the-htc-one-sv/
But what I'm not sure of when searching the forums are the references to Boost, Cricket, K2_U etc. Can someone advise me how I would find out what type this SV is?
I really just want to make sure I've got compatible versions of everything so I don't brick his phone!
If any details or version numbers are needed please just let me know.
Thanks everybody

ok.... I'm officially hijacking my own thread...!
I managed to get root on the SV, the guide I posted in the link worked fine. Now my question is - can I use something like Link2SD to allow space for more apps, as I used to on my old Desire?
I'm just using the rooted stock 4.2.2 (Sense 5) ROM at the moment.
Thanks again

Boost & Cricket are US carriers, so they are not important to you.
You can see what model you use in bootloader (k2u = without LTE; k2ul = with LTE).
And skip this files or you will fail!
Instead follow my index thread in my signature. You will find recovery and SuperSu.zip which are recommended and confirmed working for HTC One SV with Android 4.2.2.

Thanks splatterhead. In that case we must be k2u as it's not an LTE (4G) phone.
As I say I've managed OK to get rooted so I'm now using the rooted stock ROM. The problem we're now facing is that the App Storage partition still contains 2.8GB of "Other" !
So I'm wondering if Link2SD or any other way of moving more apps than is "standard" to either the SD card or the Internal Storage partition (as opposed to the App Storage partition)? Would I need a custom ROM for this?
Cheers

Whoops, actually, it appears I'm wrong! In HBOOT I see K2_UL PVT SHIP S-ON RL !
So it appears this is an LTE handset...! Shouldn't rooting / unlocking bootloader have given me S-OFF, by the way? Can't remember if that was a separate / necessary process from the Desire days??

Unlocking bootloader does not give you S-off.
Lets bring more light into your device.
Connect your phone with fastboot and type into the cmd:
Code:
fastboot getvar all
Put the output here (except your IMEI & Serial number).
I can't really believe, that CWM recovery is working with 4.2.2 software/hboot.

Thanks. Will have to come back to you tomorrow on this - it's a work friend and he's left for the day!
I've since read that a lot of people are preferring TWRP recovery on the One SV. Is that the recovery you would recommend?
I do notice some problems with the version of Clockworkmod that I flashed (from memory 6.0.something) - when navigating with the volume keys the screen shifts left and right.
If you can recommend a version of TWRP that would be best to flash I will gladly install it!

Yes, a known bug of this cwm build. TWRP is almost bugfree, recommended for 4.2.2 and most used.
But more important: this cwm build normally don't boot into recovery and is hanging on splash screen, after the firmware files are successfully updated to 4.2.2.
That is something that makes me curious and why should carry some info's about the device.

Ok, thanks very much for your help. I will pick this up in the morning and run the command you mentioned to report the phone details.
I've seen a recommendation to use TWRP version 2.7.0.1-k2_ul-k2u with Android 4.2.2 on the SV - should I flash this recover to get away from using the Clockworkmod one?

Yes.

Hi Splatterhead,
Here's the output from the getvar /all command I ran in fastboot (after flashing the TWRP 2.7.0.1 recovery which is working very well and is much easier to use than the CWM!)
It does say failed at the end although much of the info seems to have come through correctly (not sure if something is missing though)

Ok, your device is for sure with LTE. Some LTE devices got a new hboot with 4.2.2, some not. Your device seems to be on the old hboot, thats why cwm is booting.
Please note: root is not root, lol. The device has a system write protection, which means everything you change with your root rights on system partition will be reverted after a reboot.
You can disable this with getting S-Off.
About your Link2SD i'm at least not the right "teacher", i never used that.
There is only another solution i can offer you.
You can swap your internal and external memory with this mod.
It's made for 4.1.2, but should work on 4.2.2 as well.

Oh, I see! So for "true" root, we would need to gain S-Off? I've read that this can be very difficult on the SV with JB?
The mod you posted looks interesting. Does this swap the "App Storage" partition with SD, or the "Phone Storage" partition? because this phone has 2 built in partitions - one around 4GB (with 2.8GB taken up by "other"!) and one around 16GB.
Many apps can only be installed to the App Storage partition which is causing us the problem with storage space.

You must try that yourself. I never used that mod myself in daily usuage, only for testing. But it swaps the whole partition. If that helps for your apps, i don't know.
S-off is not that hard. If you have a proper setup/knowledge (adb/fastboot/supersu/htc drivers installed) it should work fine.

OK, great. Thank you so much for helping get us this far. If we give this a try at least we can revert using the second script provided
And of course, we would be making a Nandroid backup from TWRP before trying it!
Thanks again for all your help. :good::good::good:

I rooted and rommed my own phone some time back without any problems, thanks to many excellent posts on this site. My boss kept moaning that his sensation kept crashing/hanging/behaving badly - so I told him that I would root and rom his phone, Which I have done. Problem is though there's no BT or WIFI. I have tried several variations on PG58IMG.ZIP but none even offer to carry out the upgrade. The phones CID is VODAP001 and the text from the HBOOT is as follows....

I cannot seem to change the CID (I tired to superCID it). I'm fairly sure that it's the radio.img that needs to be updated - can anyone help me as to why this isn't happening. What PG58IMG.ZIP should I be using are there any additional locks that Vodafone have put on that I need to remove. The OS seems to work fine except no wifi or bluetooth. The ROM I installed is the AKOP milestone 6. Please help, my boss might sack me! :crying:
You would probably be better getting the phone to have S-OFF first.
You've not stated if the phone has gone through the HTCdev unlock mechanism. Although, I don't know what that achieves in comparison to full S-OFF.
EDIT:
In About Phone -> Software information what does it say r.e.:
Software Number
More -> Baseband version
dev unlocked and s-off. Sorry, I thought that was implied where I said "root and rom his phone, Which I have done"
Android version 4.0.4
baseband version 11.69A350400U_11.23.3504.07_M2
Kernel 3.0.16-gda3fdfc
[email protected]
Build Number IMM76I
mod ver aokp_pyramid_build-40
I've tried several PG%*IMG.zip files that appear to be the correct versions, but all they do is get as far as the Parsing... then returns me to the fastboot screen. Everything on the phone appears to work correctly except radio services (BT & Wifi) and the SD card won't mount on PC on USB mode, but I'm not bothered about that - if the Wifi works I can always network files onto the phone.

Hi,
According to your hboot,it says "S-ON" .
That is why no PG58IMG.zip will work
It seems that if you cannot see that, you should really not be playing with your boss's phone.
If you intend to carry on,look in my signature at the "Asskicker Thread "
That deals with s-on and flashing custom ROMS...

[Q] Rooting HTC Wildfire - need to update ROM to 2.25.1107.3

Hi
I guess I'm what you call a newbie, but please bear with me as i think this will interest you
I'm trying to root my HTC WIldfire (to get ride of all the bloated manufacturer installed apps) and have been trying to follow the instructions on htcdev.c o m
I have downloaded from htcdev.c o m / bootloader / ruu-downloads the following RUU
HTC WWE Tesco 2.25.1107.1 PC4910000
Prior to running the RUU, my phone indicated the following
Buzz PVT Ship S-On
SPL/hboot version: 1.01.0001.
Radio version: 3.35.15.31.
Main software version: 1.28.1107.2.
cid: htc__001.
cpld: none.
product: buzz.
mid: pc4910000.
security: on.
build-mode: ship.
when running the downloaded RUU, which was in fact PC4910000_Buzz_Froyo_hboot_1.02.0000_R3. (executable), it got as far as trying to update from 1.28.1107.2 to 2.46.0.0 as specified in the RUU (I was given no other options), I then got the following message:
'Your ROM version is not the latest version.
Please upgrade to 2.25.1107.3 to apply this RUU to be able to unlock your bootloader
On your phone go to Menu>......(edited).....>Check now.
After you have updated, please run the RUU again to upgrade your HBOOT to unlock your phone.'
I tried updating to the latest ROM on my phone but my phone indicated the software was already the latest version so no update was available
After searching both HTCDEV and the xba-developers forums, I can find no reference to ver 2.25.1107.3 anywhere!
What am I doing wrong and can someone explain a (full proof) method to root my phone. I would prefer to leave S-ON and was considering using cyanogenmod firmware after my phone had been routed....Help please anyone?
Thanks in advance

Do I need a new mobile?

Do I need a new mobile? A question that I often imagine in the last days... What's the situation?

The story
What happens. Because of the license mess with CyanogenMod I've tried different ROM's but all in all there where always a reason to change the ROM. After all I want to give Carbon a try but for this you have to upgrade the firmware and so the mess starts.
In fact o2 Germany is not able to deliver a proper RUU I've changed the CID to SuperCID (11111111) and tried to install the RUU_Ville_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.16.401.8_Radio_1.11.50.05.28_10.27.50.08L_release_301814_signed_2_4. This and all my other installations of different RUU's breaks with a signature error. Next step was to change the CID to HTC__102 but this didn't help anything.
Now I was thinking to go back to the root and install the first custom ROM I've used. So I want to give ViperROM a try. With this it was not able to get the WiFi up and running. Next step was to give TrickDroid 10 and ZenROM a chance. There was no problem with the installation and both of them where running. The problems here are that both of them are far away from a daily driver.
Today I saw that there are again official CyanogenMod nightlies and so I've thought to install the base ROM of so many custom ROM's. This installation breaks with the error message: "failed : getprop("ro.bootloader") == 2.15.000" So It seems that the newest bootloader is a basic requirement. The problem is now that I'm unable to get the newest hboot because of the RUU signature problem.
I don't know what to do anymore. RUU update does not working. S-OFF does not working. The firmware upgrade is not working. Do I have to use the One S as a paperweight?
So .. I'm really grateful and happy about every hint, every tip or solution.
Thanks a lot
Christian
Why is S-OFF not working and why did you changed your CID back to stock? You have to get S-OFF and SuperCID so follow this guide. Report back at which step you fail

Good morning,
sorry for my late response. I was so frustrated that I went off yesterday evening.
I've tried different things with the CID:
changed the O2___102 to 11111111
changed the 11111111 to HTC__102
rollback to 11111111
The reason was that I had found the RUU instructions which stated that there could be potential problems with RUU installations and SuperCID.
Based on this thread the S-Off always stops at step 5. I get an error message that says: "FAILED (remote: 99 unknown fail)". I've already tried the different things. Switch off the phone, switch off the computer, useing the original HTC USB cable and so on. Nothing worked here.
Thanks a lot
Christian
Try updating the HTC drivers on your PC then try again. There's a thread somewhere around the One S forums.
After the soff, supercid is not needed anymore.
Have you tried o2 ruus from a different country?
Btw is the ruu erroring because of your MID? Whats yours? Pj4010000?
Sometimes if a ruu errors, directly retrying sometimes works.

YES! It's again up and running
After some days of troubleshooting my One S ist up and running again
First was the tip of djsubtronic. I've checked the drivers on my PC. But I've already installed the latest one. Then I've made a clean, fresh new installation on my notebook. But nothing changed.
Then I've tried some other RUU's. But there where always the same error. So... after all I was already looking for a new mobile device and then I've made a final attempt.
Cleaned storage from bootloader
Reset from bootloader
Installed TWRP recovery (2.5.0.0)
Format the sdcard from Windows
Nothing left on the sdcard
System reset from TWRP
System wipe from TWRP
Followed step by step and extreme exactly the instructions of the firmware update thread
The second try to manual update the hboot then was succsessful
After that I was able to install the latest CyanogenMod nightly
Thanks a lot for every tip. They took me to re-read everything again and then start again from scratch. After all I'm already S-On. I'm happy that my phone is running again, I just do not quite trust myself to tackle the topic...
Thanks again...
Christian
Nice to hear you have your phone up and running again.
I want to ask something.
I too, don't have JB RUU for my carrier of the device.
So will S-off and subsequently changing CID to something which has an RUU help? Will that RUU work?
My basic purpose is to go fully stock.

Hi, if I understand this correct than yes. If you change the CID to a "non branded" CID. (SuperCID - 111111 or HTC - HTC__102) you should be able to install other RUU's for your device. I don't know why this didn't work for me but for normal this should work.

From what i have read and understood, yours must be a problem of MID. This is another requirement in addition to CID.

[Q] SoftBricked HTC One X don't know what else to try

Hi Guys, let me express my gratitude beforehand for all the help that you have provided gratuitously to so many users so far. I happen to find myself in a delicate situation with my newly acquired(last week) HTC One X, that after a few days of use prompted me to install an update. I foolishly accepted and started the installation. After it rebooted it found itself in a bootloop - starting, vibrating for a second, displaying the Quietly Brilliant logo and then restarting again. I then began browsing on the XDA forum and researching on this particular problem. I started with the common troubleshooting steps : tried entering the recovery menu (power+vol down) and selecting "Recovery" - that didn't do anything differently-, then i tried a factory reset, same thing, then i tried and installed the RUU that i think is for my device(i'll post the name below) that ended up with what i thought was a successful process but ended up in the same bootloop after the restart.
At that point i read further and decided to root/unlock my device so i can try and install a custom ROM. Unlocked my device using the unlock token provided by HTC and then installed the clockwork recovery tool. After that i tried installing a couple of custom roms like ARHD31 which seemed like it was going to work(got through the configuration settings but after the restart this time was stuck at a HTC ONE logo ). I later read that for this to work you need a newer HBoot(mine is 1.12.0000). I then tried flasing an older rom with ICS(Renovate) that did not work either. I am not ruling out that i may be botching up somewhere in the process though, that's why i am seeking your help. The RUU that i tried for my device is:
RUU_Endeavor_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.17.401.2_Radio_2.1204.135.20_release_274900_signed.exe
