First off let me say thanks to all the devs on here whose work has helped me in the past.
I'm not at all new to all things root, my first tinker toy was a DROID milestone. But today I need some help for the first time. I recently traded my LG G2 for a&at note 3.
I no longer have a computer. So I had to gain root via towelroot
I found that on this phone safestrap 3.75 does not work with aroma installer... But to install a recovery that does I have to have a pc, is there a way around this or am I stuck? The rom I'd like to run is Echoe rom v15. The recovery I wanted to use is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2567283
Hi,
There is a good chance of finding a method without using a PC, I would suggest asking in your device specific Q&A thread

Hi all and thanks for the precious and detailed information you posted in the Forum.
I am quite new with Samsung (Android).
Just left the other World few months ago.
I was using the iPhone and switched to Android because of different considerations like battery, higher display, etc.
I am interested in ROOTing my device (Samsung S3 - GTI9300 International).
May I ask you a couple of questions about this step?
- The ROOT process will remove my installed applications
- After ROOTing the GooglePlay will still be available to update my Applications
- Future FIRMWARES update from Samsung will be available also for ROOTed devices
- unROOTing the device means (easily) reinstall the original FIRMARE or there is an easier step
Many thanks for your (all) help!!!
Happy Android
This is not for your device, you will brick it, please for the international forums.

Your in the wrong section. Look for the s3 i9300 section and there is a toolkit for you or you can Google framaroot which is a app that can root your device quicker and simpler

It's been successfully rooted with POOT.
It has also been rooted via CWM by Area51 Here for CWM and then Here for Root! I did find some ROM development going on at Area51 as well here. Area51's CWM does not appear to play nice with any phone rooted with Poot however so it's best to install CWM from Area51 first and then use their root method.

The root method used at A51 is out-of-date, and can't be updated. Therefore, you'll continuously receive an update notification and won't be able to stop it.

Not True! All you have to do is just not install the update when it boots you into CWM. This will be fixed when they complete the ROM they're working on. I don't get update reminders after accepting the first one and just not installing it once in recovery mode at the install screen!
My roomate just got this phone, gonna root it for her. Thanks for posting methods.

You might want to wait for Area51 to complete their first ROM for the phone. Currently it has an annoying update that keeps trying to install over the rooted stock OS that will break root if you install it. Of course you can just keep clicking on accept and then selecting NO when you get to the install update screen in CWM like I do, but it's an annoyance.
Is area51 still working on a ROM?

Any luck on that CM9?
Galaxy Centura 4.X
Is there any roms for the Samsung Galaxy Centura on StraightTalk that is Android version 4.1, 4.2 or above?
Not yet. Something that Samsung broke in the kernel is preventing the ROMs from booting up.

Cool just rooted one of these and uh, any recommendations on a root required app to use the phone as a wifi hotspot free of charge?
I just installed cwm with Odin and I did a backup. I downloaded all the files for root and place it in clockwork backup folder. When I go to cwm and restore backup folder I get a md5 mismatch error. Is their anyway to fix that?

Did you rename the backup? If it has spaces, it will cause that error.

What's the best method of returning this phone back stock is there a flashable firmware or tar file?
Does anyone know what has become of Androidarea51 ??
I've been trying to access that site for some time and it always fails to load.
It has been mentioned in this thread as a source for rooting this model of phone and I've just been given one & would like to root it...
Thanks.
Did anyone get the ROM to boot up? I've been trying but all I get is a black screen

You can use helium to backup. Or use adb to do it also.
This is a good guide to unlock the boot loader and root

How will he get adb though? Surely he has to flash a recovery or kernel which requires unlocking the bootloader which then wipes the device?

I suggest using a toolkit like Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit.
You can create backups and install drivers with this tool as well as root and unlock bootloader.
I haven't used this tool to root and unlock bootloader, but I did use this to install custom recovery. Everything was automatic and easy because I didn't have to mess around with pressing buttons when rebooting. Just hit the button and let the program to its work.
Here is a video of someone using Wug's tool to root and unlock bootloader. Nexus 5 Easy Unlock Bootloader + Root + Custom Recovery
Thanks for the advice I take it I can't use the adb method to backup my device then? Helium looks good I'm going to look into that

SMS backup&restore is free from Google play that'll take care of the SMS just save the folder to your p.c before routing and unlocking

Your phone has to be rooted to install any os on it. I could be wrong but my android device required it
Well to start your phone was never rooted so its not a "re-root" or anything like that. You just need to simply root your phone & install a custom recovery. Im sure you can find those instructions googling or here on xda
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Ide recommend a stock rom like cleanrom and I think there are a few on xda.
Until you get used to recovery and the other aspects of rooting. It gets a little complex when you first start down this path. Be careful and always follow all instructions.

THanks
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Is your phone completely stock at the moment or do you have root?
I rooted it with towel root awhile ago

Ok, which version of CM do you want to flash? KitKat? Lollipop?
You'll find CM11 (KitKat) here:
[ROM][OFFICIAL] CyanogenMod 11 Nightly Builds for SGH-I747
And you'll find CM12 (Lollipop) here:
[ROM] [5.0] CM12 D2att Alpha Builds [12/25]
Each thread has install instructions.

Did you follow all of the instructions properly? They do say that you need to update your bootloader.
It worked! Thanks!
