[Q] Verizon HTC One M8 su binary can't install - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I have looked through a lot of threads and a lot of searches later I am still stumped. No matter what I try I can not get the SU binary to update so that way I can get firewater to work properly. It keeps giving me the Whelp this isn't going to work on your device and I have a feeling that the SU binaries is the problem. I could be wrong, but I am desperate to get this to work. I'm sure a step by step instruction is out there somewhere, but i can't seem to find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I did catch it and as it turns out firewater just doesn't work on my phone for some reason. firewater is supposed to work on my verizon HTC One M8 and unfortunately I am out of luck in this. I suppose I am forced to wait until another method to s-off my phone is available.

I read through everything on that thread and tried getting the 1.84 SuperSU and it didn't have the binary issue. However, it still didn't have firewater work. I still got the Whelp message. I guess for whatever reason my Verizon M8 hates firewater. I'll just have to wait for an update to firewater or an alternative to firewater and sunshine. Thanks anyway.

You could be waiting for a long time.... Sunshine is the commercial successor to firewater. Why would they update the free Firewater if they are trying to sell Sunshine?
I wouldn't put any money on the odds of an alternative to firewater/sunshine coming out anytime soon (if ever) either......
$25 is the equivalent of 5 grande lattes with an extra shot. Most people can save that kind of money within a week - maybe two.
I would be curious to learn why Firewater works on some phones with the latest firmware, hboot, radio etc and doesn't on others which seem to have the same specs! Can anybody shed any light on that????

It's a great question one I have had since a bunch of threads popped up with people having firewater issues. I agree with you though $25 in the grand scheme of things isn't that much. I am feeling sleepy time for a latte : )

I just received a warranty replacement of my Verizon HTC One M8. My older unit had never taken the 1.55 OTA, I had simply flashed the radio and portions of the ROM via TWRP. The replacement unit had 1.55 on it before I could do anything. While I was able to use weaksauce to root, root was extremely unreliable, sometimes taking multiple reboots, and, as the OP points out, I could never get the binaries to download. Then I ran firewater (several tries) and got the same results, "whelp.....you're outta luck."
Yeah, that's $25 I could have spent elsewhere, but it's not unreasonable for Sunrise. Fact is that it gets S-OFF without wiping a thing, and for that alone and the time saved it's worth it.

Downgrade HTC One X?

Does anyone know a method of downgrading the HTC One X to 1.85? I looked around hoping for an answer but nothing. Then I thought to myself (after having to download an ruu for my old vivid countless times) that I could just download the 1.85 RUU for the One X and run that. Unfortunatly that had failed. I'm wanting to root my One X but with it being 2.20, root capabilities have been eliminated. So, does anyone have a way of downgrading the phone? Results or not, Thanks.

Patience Luke. If you got to 2.20 before rooting you are effed for the moment, but sooner or later somebody will break it. Of you were already rooted and unlocked with a superCID you should be able to re rkotu

I know this sounds dumb (it did to me too) but you can exchange your phone for a new one so you would then have 1.85. Thats what i did and now i'm happily running sense 4.1.

Hopefully that someone has more success than the devs that have been trying to break the s-off barrier :/ I know it's not easy, and I sure appreciate the work that goes into it.

i just got out of an IRC chat with mike1986 (the creator of the rom you would be running if you have a tegra phone) and he said that nobody has this one xL phone. it's just us guys. the rest of the world got the quad core tegra that is unlocked to begin with. we would have to be lucky that of the few one xL users, one of them has the competency to hack the new OTA.. and i asked beaups if he could do it, and he hasn't found a way yet (he hacked the 1.85)
Hmm...that does sound kind of depressing. I'm kind of wondering if there is still anything we can do if we have unlocked bootloaders but no root. I really want to know more about how exploits are found and how the other hacks were discovered.
If you're bootloader is unlocked then you're ok. You can always push root via recovery.

I'm now flashing the Stock Rooted Odexed version of 2.20 from scottsroms.com. I wonder if I'm the only one who updated that previously had root and an unlocked bootloader and thinks their stuck. Again, thanks Gunny. I didn't know I could still do this!
Did you have to install the boot.img separately?
No. I started with a relocked bootloader. I unlocked the bootloader again with my unlock token, flashed the twrp img using fastboot and then just flashed the odexed stock rooted updated rom. Worked like a charm.
Ok thanks.
They put the system update on me before I left the store and I didn't notice until it was too late. I tried to exchange and they wouldn't do it, not even for a re-stocking fee. Hopefully I can find a store that will be more cooperative.

Can you please explain how to downgrade HOX with a stock RUU?
Many threads on this process but in order to downgrade hboot you need either s off or you need to use jet tool to downgrade. S off is alot easier process and there is a thread with step by step, if your hboot was recently updated ota it can't be downgraded at this time

[S-off] Firewater s-off for HTC One XL

Firewater S-off for HTC One XL!
Firstly let me say that this isn't my own work, all credit goes to @beaups and @Fuses for bringing this to our device.
Firewater is a new method for achieving s-off on HTC devices.
For everyone that has taken the 5.18 at&t update before unlocking you should be able to use Firewater. It has a temp root feature which will enable you to get s-off on your device, once you have s-off you can get SuperCID via a simple fastboot command (fastboot oem writecid 11111111), then you can unlock your bootloader at htcdev. I'd really appreciate any feedback on whether this works for you.
This is just a simple thread to get this method some exposure for users with our device. As per the licensing section on the site and beaup's wishes I cannot include the download or instructions in this thread. However, we can have this thread serve as a troubleshooting/help location for the One XL. Alternatively, support for rumrunner s-off is available at #rumrunners on the freenode and andirc networks. Please make sure you meet all of the requirements before contacting support.
Firewater S-off.
Please go give beaups and Fuses a bunch of thanks for their work!

Confirm NOT working on 5.18 firmware
Since I like to run the updated AT&T ruu whenever they come out WeakSauce-1.0.1.apk worked great for temp root and to get everything going again without needing pc after initial ruu. I was wanting to test stock for abit then was on the road and wanted to go custom and weaksauce worked perfect.
I am on 5.18. temproot gives the same errors others have posted. Weaksauce enables a successful su but firewater fails, not always with the same messages. I would love for this to work, but it looks like I'm just going to get any M8 anyway and make sure I s-off while the exploits still work on it.
Just did s-off on mine tonight and then super-cid. Mine also hung up at chugging. Exited the program and ran it again successfully. I am overjoyed now. Many thanks to the devs.

Not sure why anyone is suprised. Those of us with the M7 knew this month's ago. For the first day after the M7 was released you could use HTC DEV unlock then VZ made HTC lock that down for the M7.
I too hoped maybe VZ had not gotten to HTC yet for the M8 so I tried but no luck. Will need to wait for rumrunner or firewater to be updated to support the M8. It may take a while....

Yes sir. Rumrunner gave you S-Off which is "Signature Off". Once that is set, you can flash custom recoveries and then custom rom's. It took months for the team to get this working and I know it did not work on 4.4.2. I think we are in for a long wait. If you bought this hoping you could get custom rom's you might want to reconsdier. If you like the phone and can live with it stock for a few months, it's a great device.
The M7 was the best phone I ever had and I swap phones a lot.

[Status] VZW M8 Bootloader Unlock / S-Off Method

Current Status for m8 Bootloader Unlock / S-Off: RELEASED
Update 4/6/14: A Firewater S-Off method is released for the HTC M8. Please see the following tweet: https://twitter.com/firewaterdevs/status/452934672063156224
Go here to do it: http://firewater-soff.com/
----(Begin Old OP)----
The HTC M8 has launched for Big Red, and much to our dismay, HTCDev does not allow for us to unlock the bootloader through the traditional avenues.
Presently, there is no known workaround.
Thus, this is a thread for conversations regarding any progress being made on a bootloader unlock/S-Off method for the VZW HTC One M8.
Try to avoid being speculative as much as possible. Please post any updates you see in other threads and on other sites. Also, if notable champions of previous unlock methods/exploits want to post their efforts here (*ehem beaups et. al...), by all means, feel free!
This is not a bounty thread.
----(End Old OP)----
My m8 will be here tomorrow and can't wait.

Had my M8 since yesterday morning. I tried HTC Dev Unlock as soon as I got it hoping it would work. No such luck. I hope I'm wrong but I think we have a long, long wait for S-Off.
On the M7 there was a 5k bounty to get S-Off. It took from March 8th until October 7th to get S-Off on the M7. Last I heard only around 1/2 the money was ever received by beaups.
No one has been able to achieve S-Off with software on any M7 with 4.4.2 so I doubt anything is close on the M8.

Sure, if you get someone upstanding. The java card method is not risky, it's sending your phone through the mail to a stranger and getting it back in 1 piece that is risky.
The only solution for the majority of users is a software exploit. That I think is a long way off. Just my opinion and hope I'm wrong..
Have you seen the breakdown for this phone?its super hard to open.
To be honest...I don't even care about s-off. If I wanted aosp I'd switch to T-Mobile and get a nexus.

I only care bout s-off to trick htcdev so I can have a unlocked boot loader. If vzw didn't block htcdev I wouldn't need s-off has nothing to do with aosp

I don't want to sound like a hater. Cause I'm not. I hope we get s-off. But I also don't understand why people on Verizon are so shocked we don't get phones that are unlockable.
What do you use s-off for?

Lets not forget that this phone has a SD Card slot and that makes for easier exploits. Beaups will come through sooner than later probably. The phone is excellent stock just like the DNA I came from. No worries guys.

I'm not shocked I already knew this prior to buying. S-off I can flash firmware for one. Ruu if ever needed.

I hope Sonic comes through with a Java card again like on the M7. He is a trust worthy dude and I would have no problem sending my M8 to him to get S-OFF.:fingers-crossed:

Like I said...I hope we get s-off. I've just noticed a trend with myself...and I don't need root like I thought I "needed" it a few years back.
The only things I use root for is WiFi Tether, Titanium Backup and occasionally I like to flash CM...but I always find myself going back to and Sense.
Hopefully Beaups will hook it up. Cross your fingers and say a prayer if you believe in that sort of thing.

Older Version of FireWater?

Hey guys, I am having some issues with FireWater, it has given me a few different error codes and I was wondering if anyone has a older version I can try. WeakSauce works fine, SuperSU updated binaries no problem, and ADB is working as it should, I have had a mix of failed and whelp error messages.
Here is my phones current HBoot info:
HBOOT-3.16.0.0000
RADIO-0.89.20.0222
OpenDSP-v26.2.2-00538-M8974.0106
OS-1.12.605.11
Software Information:
The version of Firewater I am currently using has an MD5 of: 2acbc3cc5b078368aa33ea133dd85040
If anyone has a different version I would really appreciate a link to download it, seems a lot of people are having issues with the newest version, but when it came out it worked very well and considering I haven't updated my phone to 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 who knows, maybe a different version will work for me.
If no one has one I'll buy SunShine, but I'm stubborn when something works for others, but not me so I figured I'd see if anyone has an older or different version I can try before I buy it. Thanks!!

I would like to know also, because all I ever see is posts where no one can get it to work at all with a factory fresh 4.4.2 firmware which it is supposed to work on.
Has anyone got firewater to work ?

Guy I think you are a bit lost here lol, but this is the forum for the verizon m8, and your talking about a sprint m8. The only reason I"am mentioning it is because someone else will and may not mention it as nicely. Personally I think its good to know that its not only the verizon m8 version that it wont work on also.

I didnt say it couldnt I just read posts where people said it wont work. If someone can get it to work then there are people interested in knowing. Personally I already have s-off but that does not mean I do not know or come across people that do not and are wanting to use firewater, then I can tell them how if to get it to work if anyone knows.

For the 10 thousandth time, firewater is NOT going to work on your device. End of story.

Sunshine is a nice one stop shop anyways and nothing wrong with supporting a dev with cash for a change.
Besides the fact that an older version of firewater is not going to help you accomplish anything....from the firewater website:
"firewater s-off is the result of many hours of hard work by beaups and fuses. The firewater binaries you download may not be shared, rehosted, bat’d, integrated into a one-click, repackaged, hotlinked, or otherwise distributed or reused. The source code and methods in firewater are closed and private."
