I just recently got a Nexus 4, and my girlfriend got a Galaxy S3 for christmas. I know the S3 doesn't have native wireless charging (requires some sort of adapter to the pinout under the back cover, I think?), but I was wondering if there's either: A) a way I can add wireless charging to the S3 that would be compatible with the recently released charging orb through the play store, or B) an option that would somehow work for both, if the S3 can't be made compatible with the orb.
I made an effort to search through other questions to make sure this hadn't been asked before, so forgive me if it has and I missed it!
Rumors have it that Samsung is developing a kit, if its Qi compatible then all Qi chargers will work with it.
The real place to ask the question is in the S3 forums. If they make it Qi youre good, if not then its on them.
I got the adapter from fast tech for the S3 (cheapest I could find it at $15 including shipping) for my Boyfriend's S3. I have a Nexus 4. Once the adapter and my Qi chargers arrive I will report back and let you know. I did not order the orb, but I did get the cheap $35 one from fast tech, and the double Duracell one from amazon.
I think I should get at least the adapter and the double duracell one next week. We also have a variety of cases for the s3 to test with.
I'm hoping that orb will work for galaxy s3. Not only I'm getting useless nexus 4i also ordered the orb. My wife might kill me. Lol. We got Verizon and at least a year and a half on contract left.

I'm using the cheapo uniden qi charger for the iPhone with my nexus 4. Got it at walgreens drug store for like 12$ and hacked for the n4 it works perfectly.

I'm using the Energizer dual charger (Qi certified) to charge both my N4 and my wife's GS3. I bought an after market Qi receiver for the GS3 from eBay. It fits under the stock back cover. Works great.
I like the energizer unit since I can do both phones at the same time.

I, too, have an S3 and a N4, which are sharing one wireless charger (Power Qi). I had to buy a Qi receiver and apply it on top of the battery for S3. It makes the back of S3 hump a little bit, but the battery cover still snaps in. Of course, S3 feels heavier too.
That said, things work fine. Charging faster than computer usb 2.0 and slower than wall charger, but I can grab it an run whenever I want.
Review is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181042&page=6
In Vietnam it's about 37 USD per unit and the receiver is about 10 USD.
Hi guys,
is anyone using any of these when out and about.
Are there any reviews or recommendations for some good battery cell manufactured chargers.
there is so many on ebay and amazon, its hard to tell which ones retain charge and are good quality and which ones are cheap rubbish
I don't know how it will work out in terms of long term reliability, but I have this one:
EasyACC 12000 mAh
It seems to work pretty well. It charges as fast as the stock charger on the high output ports per the Samsung Galaxy charge app thing. As you can see...460+ reviews and 4.5 stars so there is some evidence that it is a good product. It was highlighted back in May on Android Police so I picked one up.

I have the New Trent iCarrier which is 12000mAh but I don't use it for my phone... I use it for my tablets. It works fine for me. It has two USB ports which is nice if I need to have two things going. Not sure how long it takes to charge... I've always just left it plugged in overnight when needed.
Anker makes exceptional products for the price.

I got one that is similar in specs as a gift and it has worked as advertised. I will probably replace it an Anker in the near future. You can charge your S4 relatively quick with any of the 2A chargers. These things take forever to completely charge though. Mine only has a 1A input, so It'll take around 10hrs to go from 0 to 100. If that isn't an issue, any battery pack should do.

The one I have.

There is some information about power bank, you really should read it before purchasing a power bank.
I bought the anker holiday 4 pack. Absolutely love the astro3e 10000mah. I was so impressed with all 4 I purchased the slim2 and it is by far my favorite anker product. I carry it with me every day. I love the built in cord.

And now the great debate. Do I buy the zerolemon tricell which will add however much bulk and weight for $50 or do I buy 2 hyperion batteries with wall charger for $30 and more technical mAh? Hmmmm....

Fail on the ugly ZL plastered across the back cover. For anyone considering these, be mindful that they tend to decrease signal strength in fringe areas... definitely was an issue with the S3 and S4...

I didn't know that about the decrease in signal strength. Thanks for the tip.

Using the heart rate sensor looks awkward if not impossible. Also, will take away the water-resistant nature of the phone. Was really looking forward to this but might have to pass.
The major difference between the S4 and S5 is battery life. I can get at least a full day off of one charge with a cheap knock-off battery on my S5, and the OEM battery is even better. I couldn't get that on my S4, which is why I bought the ZeroLemon for that and my Note 3. This one, I'm content with what batteries I have for it for now.
I don't get it. I have a charged spare in my desk drawer that I haven't used yet. Because, well, I just don't need to. This thing lasts just fine without 2 extra inches of battery handing off its ass end.

I guess I am the only one that likes the design, Looks sexy ass hell to me. But I am also on the spare battery vs extended battery wall. I loved the s3 zl.
Well I just decided to go with the Hyperion 2 (3800 mAh) batteries with free wall charger for $30 because I have had a pretty good experience with them in the past and I like to keep my phone as low profile as I can. Don't like to much bulk.To each their own though.

Pretty much the only reason I chose the S5 over the M8 is the camera and the water resistance. Stinks you have to give up the IP rating for a larger battery.

Do you have experience with hyperion micropack? Does it hold up to the claim of an extra 1000mah?
I don't have experience with the micro pack but the hyperions I have bought in the past were pretty good. I will be getting them on Monday and will post my thoughts after a few days use.

was never an issue with my note 2. so your results may vary.
It's So much expensive buddy...
You lose ip certification and have an ugly case not worth it in my eyes.

Anyone think this battery/case might degrade rf performance? The akward heart rate monitor I can deal with because I really don't think I'd use it much.

Always loved Zerolemon, had the S3 battery for 2 years and it still lasts 3 days on one charge..
But theres no way i'm losing the water resistance on the S5, plus the case is ugly this time around..
For the same $50 I instead bought the Zerolemon 18600mah battery pack..
That's 2 1/2 times more power without the bulk, for the same price..
I always have my backpack anyway, won't bother me carrying it around..
I had the s3 zerolemon 7000 extended battery, I loved it. Now if they did similar with a waterproof case then i would jump at it dispite the bulk. the s5 battery is long and slim so most extended batteries will have a hollow part next to the within the case ?
my order just shipped i should be getting it in 3 days, i'll post some pics and give a review after the first charge cycle
Guys, my note 4 is almost 2years now, my battery is getting old, and may be it's time to buy a new one, because i intend to go on with this wonderful Note 4.
So, which new battery should i look for? OEM? Some special brand? My goal is to avoid those fake pseudo Samsung batteries, and pay what it costs for a really good one.
What's your opinion?

EDIT. What about Anker or Zerolemon? Are these better than Oem?
I recently bought a battery for my note 4 as well. To avoid any issues I went to the samsung service center and ordered it from there. I suggest that you check the official online store of Samsung.
I bought the Anker 2-pack with travel charger from amazon. They're holding up pretty well. I've bought Anker for my other phones as well and have never had any issues with their product.

They're talking about a 2-pack of internal after market (non-Samsung) batteries. Anker is a good brand, as far as I've seen.
Here, take those ones.My opinion is that this are the best ones. Not cheap but long live, good for using.https://www.amazon.de/original-JuBaTec-Akku-Samsung-SM-N910F-EBBN910BB/dp/B00UMMHG76
If you don't mind your phone being a brick, try using Zerolemon or Hyperion? If you use Zerolemon you might need a kernel fix though!

I killed my Note 4 battery by using a cheap eBay Qi receiver. Charging made it very hot, and the battery swelled and died.
I bought two replacements, both supposedly Samsung OEM batteries. I got one from Sprint, and another from Amazon. They look identical, but the one from Amazon is almost certainly a cheap clone. It doesn't hold a charge as well as the one I got from Sprint, which is probably the true OEM.
By the way, I switched to the Samsung OEM Qi wireless charging cover, and now it charges fine with no heating up. If you want to go wireless charging, I strongly recommend avoiding the cheap crap.
I've been buying Anker batteries for my S3, Note 3 and now Note 4 and I recommend them. Solid and reliable and if you have any issues, Anker are great to deal with.
ANKER for sure. Equal or better than OEM quality, and you really don't want to mess with low quality batteries. Be careful of supposed OEM batteries on ebay or Amazon, many are counterfeit.
This is the first time I've been disappointed by Anker. Bought a 2pk a while ago. They barely fit in the phone and kept popping out of their charger too. They sent me a replacement and they weren't much better. I pulled the bottom plastic piece off, scraped off the black adhesive and glued the bottom piece back on. Fit better. Still kept the old ones too. Rotated them all. Used a rubber band to keep the first two in the charger. Well they all pretty much started to bulge. Some worse than the others. I gave up on them. I have Anker batteries for 3 different phones, and these are clearly inferior in basic build quality to them. So I abandoned them.
Went with the Akku Polarcell. I also have a new OEM battery. After about 3 months of rotating the two, I feel ilke the Akku last a little longer than the OEM. Purely perception. I don't have the time nor inclination to test them properly. But here's someone else's review on here: Polarcell Review
Wireless charging
So using an aftermarket wireless charger is likely to kill the battery quickly?

Don't think so. I've been using a Choetech wireless charger for 18 months with no problems. As long as the charger and receiver are Qi compatible there shouldn't be any problems. What will kill your battery is using wired charging with fast charging enabled all the time.
Hey all,
Starting a new thread on this, since the other one is several months old.
Does anyone know of where the S5 Wireless cover can be found where it isn't over priced (i.e. $100)? I'm looking to get the feature, as my charge port is acting funny w/ a lose connection to charging cables.
If not the OEM Samsung version, does anyone know of a decent After Market version that still keeps the waterproof capability. I've seen one on Amazon that doesn't have the waterproof gasket, but no luck anywhere else.
TIA.

How about:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA7142E95226
And, by the way, the S5 is NOT waterproof, it is water resistant, big difference...
I don't think that one is for the S5. The contacts for the battery don't match the battery pattern. Thanks for looking though.
Understood not waterproof. Just a lack of brain power to write resistant last night..
ME TOO!!!
I've been searching myself for years now, can't figure out why the hell they still cost so much, I'm still not sure I wanna pay $30 + shipping for one directly from Samsung/usa (but they aren't cheaper anywhere else!)
But anyhow... I haven't tried this myself but you could have a look getting at a Qi standard wireless receiver. I don't go on Amazon much, but there's a lot of them on Ebay.
Installed the following last week on my S5, couldn't be happier.
BestFire® Ultra-thin QI Wireless Charging Charger Receiver For Samsung (S5)

* NOTE... Images aren't for the S5. Unit shipped actually has 3 contact pins, which we need.
Fits well and seals with stock battery door. Slight center bump, but hardly noticeable especially with a protective case on. Using mine with a Samsung wireless charger.

How is the performance of the wireless charging battery cover? Did it work?
