Prevent screen wake up on notifications - General Questions and Answers

Hi there!
I'm looking for an app that have the ability to prevent screen wake up when notifications arrive, but I also want the option to select which app that are allowed to wake the screen (like Hello or incoming call).
Does such app exist?

I tested this app, but the screen still turn on. I thought it was Light Flow that caused this behavior, so I deactivated it and rebooted the device. Same problem.

if your device use 4.0+ android, then you go to settings, and manage apps, then click on aplication that you want to disable notification, and disable it. :/ I dont know any other way.

But if I disable notification for an app, it will not push the notification in any form.
Thanks anyways!

Is there a way to prevent screen from waking up for an incoming call while in pocket?
My phone's screen wakes up inside my pocket and registers touches inside and receives calls without me even knowing. This problem is getting out of hands. Already tried the app 'Gravity Screen' and the closest setting I could get to is, screen WILL wake for an incoming call whether the proximity sensor is covered or not (phone's in pocket or not) and will only turn off screen if I uncover the sensor and cover it again.
Please help, experts.
N.b.: my device of rooted so any rooted method will also be appreciated
TIA

[Q] Real silent mode in Lollipop? [Also Whatsapp/Viber Priority Interruptions Issue]

So, before Lollipop we used to slide the volume down to zero to get in to vibration mode, and press another time to go complete silent.
I used to have my phone in silent mode at work, sitting on the table, because vibration on a table is pretty noisy. I just silenced it and the notification light showed me any incoming notifications.
Lollipop introduced this new "Priority Interruptions" mode, and if you don't have any interruptions set up it is basically like the old silenced mode. The issue is that in priority mode the LED notification light doesn't light up anymore!
So, any help replicating a completely silent and non-vibrating phone showing notifications through led?
Thanks in advance :good:
UPDATE:
If you use a third party app to light up the light while in priority mode, you have to enable his notification access:
Settings > Sound and Notification > Notifications Access > Check Lightflow/Light Manager Access
Also you need the notification app itself to be activated as a priority interruption:
Settings > Sound and Notification > App notifications > Lightflow/Light Manager > Enable Priority
Thanks to sorcio91 on figuring this out. :good:
Meanwhile we found out some apps don't obey to priority rules. Whatsapp is one of them, and also user naelya reports Viber is creating issues. If you find any issue with some other app let us know in this topic. According to sorcio91, dowloading the version at http://www.whatsapp.com/android/ solves the issue.
I have my phone on silent 24/7 and rely on notification light too.. Frustrating they removed a basic feature like putting ringtone/vibrations on silent only..
Glad I'm not the only one having this issue. I use timeriffic to setup profiles, but it's pretty much useless now. At work I usually have my phone on silent and use my watch and notification light for notifications, but that doesn't work now. Looks like the final build is more of a nod towards the N6.
Will tasker get round this?
I have a problem with that too....
And: with priority interruptions active, whatsapp continues to make sounds when notifications arrives...is for you the same?

Had the same issue on the developer preview, but i thought it was a preview bug at that point. Didn't receive many notifications in the last few hours, but i'll see if i experience that also.
Back on the notification light:
Is there anyway we can report back to google? But this is more of a feature request than a bug i think.

Dear friend, i've just found a workaround...the version of whatsapp downloadble at http://www.whatsapp.com/android/ works well with lollipop notifications manager, but if you update or install it from the play store it will (in some strange way) bypass the notification manager and it will "ring" even in priority mode.
Let me know if it works for you...
my whatsapp seems to be working ok, just the notification light thing is bugging me.

Can you please check your whatsapp version number?
Have you tried if lightflow or some app like that does the job for the notifications?
I just tried with a friend and Whatsapp rings full volume in priority mode, even if it's not set up to. That's strange, becasue I thought that ringtone volumes were blocked at system-level.

I use Light Manager but I don't think it's the app fault. The led does not light up even with in-app basic light settings. I wrote to the developer to know if he eventually can override that behavior (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56706374&postcount=2015).
I also have Lightflow PRO from the Play Store, but didn't have time to try that extensively. I doubt it will work though.

That's bad. But it's also possible that Whatsapp uses some deprecated code in the app development that results in this. It's not the first time that this multi-billion company shows examples of really bad app design...

I have just opened a support ticket with Viber for a similar issue.
I have app Light Flow. It work. But seems there is one trick for this. Install Light flow app. Then go in Options/Accessibilitiy and and turn on Lighht Flow Lite!
Please answer if this working for you.
I have find REAL silent mode! Top ****! =]
Just click volume button, and there is priority mode. Just click first option! Or set priority mode. In priority mode you can turn on notification for like SMS, and turn of for incoming calls!

I know that you can use NONE, but that way also alarms are silenced. And in the morning I need to wake up to something :good:
By the way without any third party software you can't have notifications light up when in priority. Don't know if consider this an issue or an intended feature. By the way, with light manager, notification access is also enabled but doesn't seem to work anyway.
I still can't get it to work. I have the full version of the app. I have it activated, no persistent icon (other than the L Preview one it puts on automatically) and then I have set priority mode on with no active notifications...but nothing lights up.

Stop screen waking up on notification?

Am I going crazy, or is there no way to stop notifications from waking the screen? Everytime I get any sort of notification, my screen wakes up to display the notification on the lock screen, and then goes back to sleep a second later. I would like to turn this off and it drains battery.

I've noticed this happens to me when I receive an SMS, but nothing else. I don't think this is the default behaviour. Do you have an app installed that maybe does this? LightFlow?
Well I did install Snaplock for a hot second but I've since uninstalled it. Maybe it changed some setting somewhere that I can't find?
Any help for this? It's driving me crazy.

I have tried to find a solution for this, but I haven't been able to. I am guessing it is just unconfigurable behaviour of the Samsung messaging app.
Yep. I installed 8sms and Textra. Both allow you to disable the screen wake. Decided on 8sms for the long haul.
Help
Ok, so I am also irritated by the same issue with the screen waking up every time I get a text. My phone is usually in my pocket, and by trying to take it out to see the text, my camera or dial screen is opened cause I touched it while the screen was on. I have tried downloading Textra, Handcent, and 8sms to use instead, but in every one of those, when I try to send a photo, it fails, and I have dug through all the settings in those apps as well. I can send them on the stock messaging app just fine.
Has anyone found out how to turn the screen wake up off yet, or what am I missing on the other apps that is preventing pictures to send?
The other thing that is bothering me is that in the stock messaging app, it is displaying a call back # on every text I receive. Is there a way to turn this off?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
-Nick
I'm also trying to find the solution to this. G920I with Vodafone Australia.
Did anyone find a resolution to this issue? My phone turns on with every notification, not just sms.
I don't have my phone on me, but check settings > lockscreen and security > Show information or
settings > lockscreen and security > other security settings > notification access
I disabled all lock screen notifications and the screen still turns on randomly. I thought it may have been facebook so I disabled notifications then uninstalled the app with no luck. This problem is very annoying to say the least, when I go for a run I take my phone to stream music etc and can end up taking a few hundred pics of my pocket; lol.
Yeah I've this problem too, samsung didn't include the option to disable it :\
Are you saying there is no way to stop the screen from coming on?
Doesn't look like you can disable it, sadly. Nothing stock in touchwiz that gives that functionality. Or am I wrong? I just searched the entire settings on my phone..

another annoyed user, looking for a solution
The inability to prevent the wake-up is annoying not only because of the instant battery usage, but because when the phone is in pocket it then causes all kinds of mispresses which lead to unintended app openings, changes, and screen staying on much longer. Samsung needs to provide option to disable screen wake on notification.
Samsung we have f#%$*ng RGB LED for notification!
Try the Screen Notifications free app
Try the Screen Notifications free app. I did and meantime it's OK. Looks it may work for the desperate people like we are....

I remember asking about this in a thread a long time. Ago. Good news, (if the other suggested fixes aren't working), I know how to fix this. First, you have to be rooted (naturally). 2nd, install another text app, I just use google's Messenger text app, nice and basic and I like it. Open that app and let it set itself as default or do it manually in settings. That step might not be necessary, but should do it just in case or possibly be left with no text app by accident. Finally, go to system > priv-app > SecMms_Delight-Open > Copy the app which is our stock messaging app and it has the screen wake function built in and paste it somewhere else like a backup folder in the priv-app directory so you know where it goes back to. Delete the app inside the SecMms-Delight-Open directory and reboot. You'll notice the yellow stock messaging app is gone from desktop and app drawer and now when you get a text, no screen wake! :good:
This annoyed me quite a bit because for a living I deliver catering orders and each time I get an order, it sends a text to let me know to check the browser for order info. So I was getting like 12 to 20 texts a day in addition to all the normal texts from friends and family. It was waking a lot!
I wish the build my edge came on was rootable. Sad face for sure. No root, no downgrade, no happy.

Lock Screen Notifications.

Hey all,
For the life of me I can't get notifications to show up my lock screen. I have tried enabling it in settings but no dice. Even when I put down the notification bar on the lock screen it is still empty. Any help would be appreciated as this is getting a bit annoying.

I emailed Huawei Tech Support yesterday regarding this issue. I was prompted to call in to tech support for further assistance, and told by a service rep that this is a known software issue. Along with led notification light also, she then created a ticket for me... I asked her if there would be an update correcting the issue soon? She placed me on a brief hold then returned stating that; "eta should be about mid March!" ?
I refused to trouble shoot with her due to the phone surprisingly deciding to display notifications and notification light by itself!
After pressing lock button and viewing lockscreen again, NOTHING BUT DATE & TIME.... It's been intermittent ever since, although play music seems to efficiently control lock screen with image and track controls every time!

Why do they say it's a known issue when some, like me, do get notifications? Although, I do notice that I do not always get notifications from my news app, etc. But in whole, I am getting my Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, CNN, nottifications. You are not getting anything at all in your lockscreen?

Yes throughout the day I will see them, but they're inconsistent, and intermittent! For example just listening to a music app during one record I can power on screen... see title and artist... Power off screen.... 5 secs later, power on screen.... Noting! It's the same thing with messages, they should remain there "on lock screen" until they're are checked or acknowledged, via lock screen, home screen, or task bar!
US version as well, and it's same with led notification light!?

*Bump* Guys has this issue been consistently fixed with the latest updates? This was honestly my only legitimate knock on the Mate 9 software... Appreciate your input! Thanks!
You need to go to the themes app and enable magazine unlock in the screen lock settings. It's the one one that will allow notifications on the lock screen.

Definitely confirmed. I am using magazine unlock and constantly get lock screen notifications. Also yes to media controls for casting, music play etc. Huawei should make it clear in manual that only way to get lock screen notifications it to use magazine unlock.
Now go rebuy the Mate 9. It's an excellent phone ?

Guys, sorry to rehash this issue, but has anyone figured out how to ALWAYS display the notifications in the notifications tray to the lockscreen? I bought the phone again, but I'm not seeing the notifications mirrored in the unlocked phone's notification trade... Like EVERY other Android phone. Let me explain:
I get a WhatsApp message, it will show up on the lockscreen. Say I then unlock the phone, don't do ANYTHING to the WhatsApp notification. The phone locks again and this time... No notification on the lock screen, despite me not acknowledging it!
Has anyone been able to solve for me? Perhaps a other lock screen app you use maybe?
Thank you! This phone is so perfect, the software is slightly off though, but maybe you guys have this solution! ?

Thank you for the input, friend. All these updates since launch, can't believe they haven't fixed something that is native across all other Android phones... I wonder if their other phones with EMUI do the same thing? Can anyone confirm?

It displays Spotify controls anyway, although a bit too big :/
Sad thing about Floatify is that the timeout of your screen is always set to 30 seconds, regardless of what you set it to in Settings - display. Until you pay for pro... Then you can change it.
I did however notice that Spotify functions without Floatify now. I'm on c432B185. I wonder if Huawei fixed it. A lot of other notifications that wouldn't display on lockscreen before works as well.

Yes Sir - YouTube casting, TuneIn Radio also work without the Flotify lockscreen, however, other notifications I have tested, Google, WhatsApp, Textra, etc... show up once, you unlock the phone, not check the notifications, come back, and it's no longer there !
I cannot believe this does not bother anyone else, other than you and I, it seems !

May be you guys should try turning off the setting and restart, if that doesnt solve the problem go to recovery mode and clear cache. Let us know if any of that works.
On a side note: I have been facing weird ass issues with this phone just today my phone wont go to mute by using volume key while receiving a call. Like someone calls you and your phone is ringing, you just want to silence the ringtone you can use volume key (Press once), Flip the phone or put your palm over it (If you have the settings on). I tried multiple restarts and switched on and off the settings many times. It was fixed when i restarted my phone to download mode (This happened by mistake i wanted to go to recovery) anyhow that fixed it.

Also try clearing system cache in the boot menu.

That can be a daunting task but sort of fun because you can streamline your notification settings as you do so.

There are apps that log notifications so you can just check the log and quickly determine what is causing the notification even if nothing is showing on-screen

If they catch it. Consider which sensors and operation triggers it, cause and effect, to narrow it down.
Playing with Android is fun... Android witch hunts are how you really learn about Android's gooey layer tricks.
Google searches on older Notes and parallel Samsung models can turn up answers many times.
This model is too recent; so not near as much online troubleshooting info. Google searches encompass threads on this forum as well so it can be a good way to find the needle in the Android stack. Do not time limit searches.
On my 10+ with it's baffling bt poor audio I found the answer with something written about the N9.
Many of these issues are long standing.
Samsung finally fixed the bt settings issue in a Wearables update. That took years.
Only persistence is omnipotent...
I figured that out by chance..
It's the edge-compass app
Just delete it from edge apps and it'll go away.. cheers

Well, I've checked all that and nothing, I don't even have the compass edge panel. But I think I'm able to replicate the issue, it mostly happens when my phone is face down on a surface and I pick it up and turn it to me, I don't have a case on it yet and I'm starting to think that it might have something to do with the edge screen but so far no luck
Use good lock. It has a module to detect vibrations and tell you what they are
Nice catch

Yeah, I installed it yesterday. But no vibrations are registered there so honestly I don't even know what to think now.
On the other hand when I switched from my note 10 plus I used smart switch, and now I'm thinking I should do a fresh start on my n20U.

Exactly check if you have Notistar from good lock switched on. That cache might need clearing.
I just go with it lol. I'm nutz. I'll feel my **** vibrate in my pocket when its sitting on the table. So I don't pay much mind to phantom vibrations. ???

It does suck some battery life though. It's one of the features I disable on my 10+ mostly because I find it annoying.
It's cool though how much you can customize notification behavior; one of the biggest reasons to go with Samsung is customization.
I play around with Settings a lot.. never crashed a load doing it. It's just occasionally gets time consuming to sort it out.

Screen doesn't wake up when notifications received?

When my phone is locked and the screen is off, notifications don't wake it up. The phone vibrates, the led lights up but the screen remains black. Does anyone have the same issue and know how to fix?
Thanks!

What ROM are you currently using? Also, have you verified that Do Not Disturb is disabled?

There should be a setting for allowing the Notifications to wake up the display. I think that is disabled on your ROM, so try looking for it and turning it ON.

You're right. I can't believe I spent so much time go through all the settings, even turn on Develop but have never noticed this option under Lock screen. Thanks!
