Updating Rooted phone - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I recently purchased a rooted HTC One X, the phone is currently running 4.2.2 Liquid Smooth and hasn't been updated in probably a year. Do I need to update TWRP recovery first then install whatever rom I want to use?

Here's pictures of the current bootloader and TWRP version.

You have some work to do. First thing you need to do is get s-off, try the Facepalm S-off method. Then you'll need to update your firmware, go to the How-To Guide For Beginners thread in my signature for download and instructions. Then you need to flash the latest TWRP, you'll find that here.

So I've gone ahead and followed all of your steps, have s-off, updated firmware and an updated version of TWRP. Is it safe to say I'm good to go and can flash the rom of my choice?

Yes, your phone is now able to run any current ROM.

Such a great advice! Thanks!
One more question, will it keep my operator safe?
It's T-Mobile by the way.

Its not about S-ON correctly. Its about beeing able to update software by 'oryginal' way. After I did root my phone I cannot do this anymore.
There was an update that showed me an exclamation mark in yellow triangle with droid's logo. I guess that was an error, wasn't it?

[Resolved] [Q] Problem with CM10 JellyTime on Desire S

Hi evereybody,
I'm trying to install this rom

on my Desire S but I have some problems.
In fact I've done a full wipe (Data/Factory Reset+Cache+Dalvik Cache+Battery Stats+Wipe All except SD card). Then I flash the ROM (successfuly) and the GoogleApps (if I don't flash the GApps it does exactly the same) and when I reboot this freez on the green htc logo.. I tried to manually flash the boot.img file after flashing but it does nothing.. I'm on the 2.02.0002 HBOOT, for any other precisions I'm here.
Thanks.
EDIT: When I try to install another ROM it does the same. So this is not a ROM issue but a problem with my phone.
A little up ! And some more infos on my problem, in fact I succed to flash CyanogenMod 7 it seems to be the JellyBean ROMs that don't work..
UP plz !
I guess you should have hitachi panel, it needs to flash special kernel version.
First check if it's really problem of you.

Stock to Sense 5

I'm trying to update my Evita phone to the newest Sense 5 OTA. Currently, I'm on 4.0.3. I've modified the **** out of this phone previously, I have SuperCID and the bootloader is unlocked, but I flashed a RUU before I gave it to my brother and now the hboot is at 1.01.0000. Radio is 0.15.3201.09. Phone is currently unrooted. I'm wondering what my options are now.
I have the OTApkg for the Sense 5 update, but when I try to apply it in stock recovery, I get an error like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Note that I did do this on stock recovery and did not wipe beforehand. Not sure if it makes a difference, but based on the error, I think I may have to update to a newer stock version for it to work? I'm not 100% certain, but I figured I'd put this out there before I did anything further to avoid messing things up. I'd appreciate some quick help on this. Thanks!

That hboot and radio number are really old. It was actually a leak before the phone was even released. That is a pretty weird RUU to have flashed.

It absolutely makes a difference. The phone needs to be up to date in order for the OTA to install. OTAs often do not have all modules present (such as hboot modules). They just include what has been changed since the previous OTAs. Meaning if the OTA had actually installed (on your device which is missing several OTAs), you probably would have bricked your phone.
You need to update to 3.18 before you can install the Sense 5 update.

So my friend handed me a Razr HD and I just found that it's on stock JB, totally exploitable. So I rooted with Towel root and tried to run the Motopocalypse apk without results for unlock bootloader. What am I doing wrong?

You need to flash the stock KitKat 4.4.2 ROM with version number v182.46.10 or 183.46.10, then use towelroot to root it and then finally motocalypse to unlock the bootloader. Further information may be found here...

thanks for everything. I don't made any moves apart of the Motocalypse APK and re rooted with Kingo since the root looked unstable, but now suddenly the bootlogo make sound but don't appear any image. The Motorola logo and fastboot show but the screen doesn't show anything after boot. Previuosly tried to flash a recovery using Rashr (my mistake) and now the stock recovery it's gone and RSD Lite show "error fastboot command" or something. I just dropped in a repair shop

I have a problem with the update.
I am rooted, with the unlocked bootloader.
The images follow each other in order. When I try to force the update, the error messages reappear.
Does anyone have a solution please?
Thank you in advance

You will have to flash the update. I am sure there are guides for your device

Thank you, I am not an English speaker, I could not find!
You don't actually have to flash the OTA, you can just take the normal OTA to your phone.
But it's true that being able to OTA update requires ur device to not be rooted.
If you flashed ur rooted boot img directly in fastboot, I'm not 100% sure but you probably have to flash unrooted boot img first. Please check this with other guides tho.
The generally recommended method is that you dont flash rooted boot img in fastboot but instead boot it and then flash through magisk. This way magisk has a backup and you can refer to the following guide to install OTA updates:
https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/ota.html
fwiw i also got the Couldn't update - Installation problem trying to update my unrooted 6a with the 21mb November OTA. haven't been able to get past it and so i guess i'll just wait til there's another stable release and flash that? anyone else had this?
