Hello,
I am a newbie... Tried to unlock and root my HTC One X based on some YouTube videos and the forum discussions here. However, I am stuck. I am sure I missed out some steps or committed an error... I downloaded an all-in-one tool kit, everything was fine until the TWRP process. My phone froze on that step and the phone touch does not respond... so I press the power + volume down and the phone resets to original settings but it starts with the TWRP screen. I also believe the TWRP process has been permanently stored and installed into the system because it does not erase despite factory reset.
I also tried to follow another set of instructions, after the all-in-one-tool kit set up... but it doesn't work.... I own this phone but this is my work phone and I need to get it right... Please help, I have been up for two nights straight to set it right....
Thank you... Look forward to some good interaction and elaborate feedback...

Hi everyone. I am in need of assistance with shelltool. I've been flashing ROMs for quite some time and this goes beyond the scope of typical upgrading. I apparently had a bad flash happen and need some help correcting it. The OS appears to work fine, except some applications .cab installers exit before asking device or storage card. I have attempted to load the EnableRapi.cab and Cert_SPCS.cab; however, they exit almost instantly after starting them.
I had this situation happen once before and I was able to oddly enough try to load the original T-Moblie ROM through shelltool (didn't install at all), then try NBD 8.3. which brought me to a boot loader screen after doing a hard reset, but didn't install NBD 8.3. So far I'm not having much luck in recreating the experiment.
Is there a way to force a Wizard into bootloader mode using shelltool or some other utility? I can restore the device if I can get that far.
it's time for my first post
Hi, have been reading this forum for about 3 month and i enyoy it and learn a lot. Have been try about 7 roms and like all. It's time to payback.
Yo can enter bootload by pressing and holding the voice command button and then softreset, keep holding the voice command button util you reach bootload.
Other thing you can do is run the original rom by its executable program not using shelltool.
Good luck
Awesome! That rescued my phone. You saved me quite a bit of time in getting my phone back to a working state. You've more than given back!

Please tell me how did you restore your phone? i am flashed touchflo rom to my phone and some how it is stuck to the multicolor screen.
Can you help me out?
Thanking you in anticipation.
1 put phone into bootloader by pressing and holding camera button+reset hole. Keep holding the camera button untill you see the tricollor screen.
2 plug the phone into the computer (wait to hear the noise that it found hardware
3 Flash a rom you know worked (maybe your original/ maybe someone elses... maybe even mine )
4 wait untill the flashing finishes and "Tap Screen..." appeares before unplugging.
(If you have a G4 then I advise you to flash the original rom, or make sure your ipl/spl is propper. check the G4 forum to be sure, or ask Mestrini - The creator of the Wizard service tool. I believe he has a G4 and knows more about it than most)
Happy Flashing
Randomly get Update/Connection errors.
Thank you very much for the response.
Unfortunately, i am still not able to flash the ROM. I did the follwoing steps, can you please help me letting me know, where m i wrong?
I restarted my PC.
I did Reset my PDA, by removing and placing the battery.
then i boot the PDA, it always boots to the TRICOLOR Screen.
afterwards, i tried to flash following ROMs
Xda_Minis_Upgrade_v2.21.4.101.exe [the oringal one, used to be working since long]
SNN_Version_3.0 [i flashed this, some days ago and worked fine for me]
SNN_3.0_FULL_version [the ROM that caused the problem]
BUT no use, i randomly get following errors:
ERROR [262] : UPDATE ERROR
ERROR [274] : CONNECTION
and some other errors.
Pleaaaaaase some one help me.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Hello, I have an HTC Inspire 4g and I tried to root it using a guide(which I will list below) in conjunction with the readme in the hack kit.
Problem:
when I entered the bootloader menu and pressed menu to enable hboot, the screen just hanged. Right now, it's not doing anything and I can't interact with the phone.
Any tips on what can do?
Here is a link to the guide(make sure you substitute the [dot]s):

When you pressed "menu", you actually pressed the power button, right? If so, I wouldn't hard reset. Nothing much has happened yet if it didn't update to the downgrade. I'd pull the battery, start it back up and start again.
Also, the guide on that other site is missing a few steps like hackerize-ace setup-downgrade and the video is now outdated. If I were you, I would follow the guide in the hack kit only and if you have any other questions, ask it in the hack kit thread linked below.

Hi everyone I'n not technically new here, I have used this forum for anything android related from my first android phone, However I have never posted here so bare with me please if it is in the wrong section.
So my story is this, I have had another galaxy s3 before this one which i hard brick because a rom on another website was listed wrong and i installed the international version. After receive my new S3 from Verizon i learned very quickly that I couldn't live without root. So i followed the newest guide to rooting. After I followed the guide completely I ended up with a rooted phone that has No Lockscreen. What i mean by that is when i press the power button to turn the screen off and when it is turned back on it goes straight to the home screen. Even alternatives like (Holo locker and Go Locker) don't work. Also when the phone is factory rest it doesn't bring me to the welcome screen where I'm suppose to set up a new phone with my username and password. The final problem is that it is always in Factory Mode. I have followed guides that require you to run some SU terminal commands and they have not work. Everytime a boot my phone it is still in factory mode.
I have googled endlessly for a solution and found nothing. Can you please help me?

Hello, friends at XDA!
My dad has a MyTouch 4G Slide. I didn't want to root it because, ironically, I wanted him to have better support and not end up with a bunch of questions from T-Mobile, should he ever need support. I'm now regretting that decision; his future devices will be rooted out of the box...
The phone, in its current state, will get as far as the splash screen. It will sit there for about 20 seconds, and then turn the screen off. After another ten seconds or so, the phone goes back to the splash screen again.
I can get myself into the bootloader, which is still S-ON. That works reliably, but it's still a bit of a dead end. It checks for a baseband update on the phone, and upon not finding an applicable file on the SD card, spits me back into the fastboot menu. Naturally, I went for the recovery environment. I was able to get to it last night, but even that was a bit shallow in that I got to the red triangle screen, but no menu options were presented. Still, I figured that the recovery environment would allow me to run Unrevoked or similar, but when I came home the phone was camping out on the "waiting for device..." screen, to no avail.
My goal was to root in order to install a recovery environment; I know that ClockWorkMod and TWRP both allow for data to be backed up from within the recovery environment. There are call logs and contacts (no, they're not synced with Exchange or Google) that would be greatly appreciated if I could recover before I perform a factory reset as T-Mobile has instructed me to do.
Is there a way I can flash a recovery environment onto this phone using only the access provided by the phone's search for a baseband update from the bootloader?
Thank you for your time and assistance in this matter.
Joey
Unfortunately no, if you can't boot to os and have stock recovery then you have no adb access which means chances of recovering any data is nil
The red triangle is stock recovery, some combo of buttons (like volume up and down) will bring you options but I forget which ones
Hopefully a factory reset will bring your phone a live as you need to get to the os just to unlock your bootloader so you can flash a custom recovery and root the phone

I always root my phone so I'm not sure but,
You can try to start the device by pressing the power and volume - key at the same time.
Then connect to the pc and try the toolkit.
Maybe others can comment if this wil work.

No Solution
Hey guys,
by some miracle I managed to get the phone working JUST long enough to run a MyBackup Pro task on it; T-Mobile performed a warranty swap on the phone. There was no consistent solution to it though, but thanks for the input everyone.
Joey
Okay, this all happened because I tried to install CyanogenMod without taking into consideration the fact that I'm using the SV version, of which there does not seem to be any easy way to install CyanogenMod on.
My provider is Boost Mobile if that's important.
The first step I took was to unlock the bootloader, which was successful (I did use the HTCDev website, submit my identifier token, and it definitely worked).
The real trouble was when I tried flashing my recovery and boot .img's using the files in this link (for the HTC One S): ((I can't post links as a new user, but I tried acquiring my .img's from the CyanogenMod wiki, in the guide for the HTC One S, which was probably the root of this problem)
Terrible mistake, I know. I think my phone is bricked, but I'm not 100% sure because this is the first time I've tampered with any phone on this level. The only comparable mistake was when I accidentally formatted my hard drive when I tried installing Arch on my desktop, two years ago.
Right now, my phone won't start properly. When I do a normal bootup, by simply holding down the power button, I get treated to the HTC logo followed by a blank blackish-grey screen. I have to remove the battery to exit it. I can access fastboot, but when I attempt to access recovery I get taken to a perpetual load screen with an HTC logo and "Entering recovery mode..." on top of it. I have to remove my battery at this point because it never goes beyond that screen.
The other trouble is that while I seem to be able to access my phone through a USB cable, and apparently detect it using the "fastboot devices" command, the device itself doesn't seem to show up on Windows (as C525c, like it did before). I'm not sure if this has to do with me screwing up my boot and recovery .img's or my USB drivers.
Ok, this was not a good idea, to flash a boot.img from different device!
If there is any chance for your device, then try to flash the recovery from here (boost version).

Okay, I just did. I am finally able to boot into recovery! Thanks!
I'm not sure what I should do next though, because I don't want to screw it up again. Which options should I choose?
They are: Install, Wipe, Backup, Restore, Mount, Settings, Advanced, Reboot.
I'll guess you don't have a backup to restore?
Then you can try to restore some from here.
Or somebody gives you an backup from 4.2.2 boost version.
