[Bug Report] H/W+ auto-switching to S/W

Lately I've run into an issue; can't point my finger on which update this started happening though.
Many videos start to play as H/W+ but then stop and decoder turns to S/W 3 to 6 seconds into the video. What's weird is that it's intermittent, like, I can play that same file again and it'll stick on H/W+. Then I try again and it goes to S/W. Very sporadic.
It's a shame because playing videos on H/W+ consumes 8%/h~ of my battery, whereas S/W a good 15-16%.

Mind posting the media info for the video? And on what device and ROM is this? If you remember, what was the last version of MX that didn't have the issue?

Don't have any more videos right now but lately a pretty big array of files have this decoder switch.
I'm on a Samsung Galaxy tab S 10.5. Stock 4.4.2.
I thiiiiink it started happening in the MX lollipop builds.

are you using multiple multimedia apps at the same time?
mediaplayer has timed out. that's why it has automatically switched S/W.
anyhow I have forwarded the issue to the developer.

Erm, like another video player WHILE mx playing is on it? Not at all.
I mean I do have Shuttle music player on background, but it's not playing anything, and I don't think that's related since only certain videos reproduce this issue.

I am not sure that it's the root cause.
Somehow mediaplayer is getting timed out which is causing the issue.
Anyway, I have forwarded the issue to the developer.

I thought of something, I'll try to explain:
In a folder there are the video files, and also the opening and ending titles as separate files. Like let's say a video is 20 mins, with 2 min opening and 2 min ending titles, for a total of 24 mins.
I only moved the actual video file on my tablet, so it's only playing the 20min file. Could it timeout trying to find the opening / ending files that I omitted?
edit: I'll try the same thing but also copying the other files now.
edit 2: nope, behaving the same way. Could it be mx player doesn't support "separated" video files? I mean, the video says it's 20 min long rather than 24min even if the other files are in there.
I'm not sure if I was clear enough so I'll try to rephrase. I'm playing the videos of an anime that made it so that rather than every episode containing the opening and ending, it calls them as external video file - i guess to save space. that doesnt seem to be supported by mx player.

Timeout just means HW+ decoder can't play the video file.

Also it's worth noting that it doesn't happen on my Nexus 5 running 5.0.1. Only on my 4.4.2 Galaxy Tab S.

However, OpenSubtitles can solve most of the cases, but there's another reliable source: Subscene.(com)
Would it be much if I asked you to add that subtitle source for searches as well? Or, if that does not happen, do you intend to add other sources more than OS?

I had the same question earlier.
But, unfortunately subscene doesn't provide any api to access their database. That's why it's not supported in any multimedia player.

See the screenshot below. Press and hold (to select) the movie file, go to the three dots menu and select "Get subtitles online". It's highlighted on the screenshot.

I have the pro version for the V88 Piano (4gigh ram/16gigh rom RK-3328)
It finds subs, no problem, but.., When the subs are not good, i try to look for Online subs, but all the time a message No subs found.
I have the MX Pro also on my Nvidea Shield 2017.
There the player works good, and i have no problems for looking online subs.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Kindly do the following and share the bug report with us. It will help us to understand the issue better.
1. Go to MX Player Settings » Development ＆ Enable "Log Opensubtitles.org Operations"
2. Then try to reproduce the issue you have mentioned.
3. When it returns with no results, immediately open menu » help » bug report. Then. save the bug report ＆ share with us.
We will get back to you after checking the logs.

[Done] Colour backround in subtitles for hardcore subtitles

In last years many movies came with hardcore subtitles . When we choose external subtitles and black background to hide the hardcore subtitles the problem is that the black background is from side to side and do not covers only the subtitles ....On windows with the media player classic (it's media player) the black always follow Only the subtitles ....See the image below

Thanks for replying . More and more movies pop up early with hardcore subtitles to Internet . it will nice to have this . I think more easily is to raise the border bigger than 300% ..

I want subtitles box to cover only subtitles not the entire screen.
So that it looked like this:

Yeah, you're always working on other issues but this is important as well.
There are many movies with hardcoded subs and watching them with your own subtitles is real pain in the ass.
Besides, I don't think it's hard to implement or time consuming. It's just a simple opaque box which is a standard feature in all available players.
I paid for mx player pro and I'm not eager to wait a year or more until you fix it.
As I said, it may look as a not important issue but it is not. Now I can't watch movies on mx player because subtitles overlap each other and it's all confusing and doesn't look nice.
So basically mx player is useless right now when it comes to watching hardsubbed movies.
Please fix it in the next release of mx-player pro.

I hope that in the new version, background transparent will be in the size of the (fit) subtitles, and the background transparent not to be all the time in the video while no subtitles are active.

m3u8 can't play this file error still exists in version 1.9.5

Mx Player used to play m3u8 files very well, but after the 1.9.x update, it can no longer play this kind of file anymore. Well, I bought Mx Player Pro just because of this function, it is very important to me. So the problem with m3u8 files really bothers me alot.
I have sent reports to [email protected], 2 times, but got no replies. OK, fine. Perhaps Mx Team was just too busy and had no time to reply.
I've been looking forward to the new version since then, hoping this problem would get fixed.
And after 1 month of waiting, today, there is a new update. I immediately hit the update button, thinking the problem is gone by now.
But it still exists!
Well, in sum, please fix it. I'm too tired of it now.

Are trying to play the m3u8 from your local storage? We have received few similar reports like that & our developers are already looking on it. We will try to fix it ASAP.

Yes, that is the problem I am suffering. MX Player can't play m3u/m3u8 files from local storage.
Hope it will get fixed soon.

m3u8 file problem still exists despite v1.9.7's changelog said it was fixed. I think if you guys can't support m3u8 files well enough, you guys should make an own playlist function for MX Player.
And worse than that, now Mx Player can't play rtmp links. It said "Support for this video codec is missing from your device". It used to play RTMP link perfectly at v1.9.5 or below though.
I'm done. Reverted to v1.9.5 as a temporary solution.

That's wired.
We have fixed some m3u8 related issues.
MX Player only supports HLS compliant m3u8 files. Support for custom m3u8 files are limited.
Can you share the m3u8 file here?
It will be better if you can provide a sample rtmp link as well. If you are bothered about sharing, you can send the sample m3u8 file & rtmp links by a private message.

I'm temporarily using the pirated MX Player v1.8.16, and it plays those m3u8 files perfectly fine.
But starting from v1.9.x, it no longer works.
I have read the logs and seems that starting from v1.9.x, MX Player no longer allows network links in M3U8 files like before. It still accepts and plays local links (such as this) though.

The problem of m3u8 files still remains. But at least, the problem with rtmp links is fixed.
I found this from the log file.
I think MX Player can't play it just because MX.FFmpeg automatically rejects m3u8 files that contain HTTP or RTMP links for some reason, not because it can't play. If I paste the link to Network Stream and play it, MX Player can play it perfectly though . If I remember it right, there was an update of MX.FFmpeg at v1.9.2. There must be something with it.

[Bug Report] SMB Missing

Thank you for the continued work on MX Player, SMB is a user-centered feature that I am grateful to have!
With the latest old versions (before 1.35) I'm not able to access SMB in the TV interface. Using a hand held remote will not navigate properly from the homescreen anymore. Also, pressing left on a remote within context menus like view and help will exit the app. Hopefully, this version of the Ui will not be left behind while the rest of the app continues to grow.

I can also confirm the 2 bugs descriped above on an Android-TV:
1. not possible to add a SMB share - there's simply no menu for this available
2. navigating to left while in submenus closes the app

you can say something about when the SMB Share function for the Andoid TV version (NvidiaTV Shield) is to be expected from MX Player or when it will be implemented.
Would like to be wide for this feature to buy the Pro version.

MX version 1.21 does not have any of these navigation bugs and allows access to SMB. Would be nice to have these in the updated version! :fingers-crossed:

I can confirm, that the latest versions don't have the local network option.
I hope that this feature comes back with an update.

As an update, these issues remain unchanged in the current beta 1.30.4 1.32.2

The latest version is 1.34.0

The homescreen of MX Player on androidTV is fixed! Local network can be reached again!
There are some quirks with recent versions (1.35.0), specifically during playback
⦿ The "rewind 10s" button can't be reached without touchscreen
⦿ Navigating from right to left along the bottom row of buttons doesn't work as expected; selection will leave the bottom row and jump into the progress bar, causing video to leap back or forward
⦿ Black bars along top & bottom of letterbox video removed when using HW+ decoder, stretching the video height
⦿ More of a plea than a bug, but changing "key up/down action" to brightness has no effect on androidTV. It's not uncommon for TV users to find they have been accidentally using reduced volume in MX for a length of time. An option to disable key up/down would be useful
Very exciting to see the TV layout get some attention!

Local Network (SMB) is not displayed on the NVIDIA TV Shield, MX Player 1.35 version, so back to the 1.20 beta.
