[Q] Can i downgrade to 4.2.2 without... - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can i downgrade my XT1080 aka Droid Maxx to 4.2.2 beign in 4.4? Or it will brick the phone?
I want to root the phone, but i only heard that you need to be in 4.2, if you're not, then you can't, it's that true? Or nah?
Thanks in advance guy!!! :fingers-crossed: :good:

You can attempt to root using Motorola Pie from jcase. In terms of downgrading, unless you have an unlocked bootloader, you're out of luck due to the bootloader security check.

Just to be perfectly clear, I can downgrade if I have unlocked bootloader?

I THINK, I THINK, I THINK.... that you can downgrade if you flash manually everything EXCEPT the motoboot.img

Yes, you can. Resources can be found HERE: http://waynekent.com/page8.html
However, never take the OTA on the custom FXZs. Your phone will be hard bricked.

Well, not hard bricked, I bought a Droid Maxx that someone flashed the Moto X 4.4.2 bootloader, and tried to flash the old Maxx one, just flashed again the Moto X bootloader and problem fixed.

I meant if you take an OTA prompt whilst on the incomplete downgraded firmware, the phone will become an unrecoverable paperweight once it tries to go to recovery
Why someone would mess with bootloaders is beyond comprehension. Glad your Maxx is up and running!

The 4.4.2 on the Moto X is running the 30.B4 bootloader, in theory, if we receive and upgrade to 4.4.2 or better, is probably that bootloader is bundled to the OTA, so I think i'm going to be fine... I hope.

My theory, as long as the phone is operational, everything's fine. Be happy you managed to revive it, man!

Please post what system version you are on. If you have either of the last 2 OTAs, you won't be able to unlock.

No worries, thanks for the photo. Unfortunately, you're on the latest update and you can't unlock the bootloader or gain root access. The BL unlock was patched on the last OTA and root was eliminated on this latest OTA.

The exploit used to unlock the bootloader was patched by verizon. If you took an update, or received a phone with the update already installed, the exploit is fixed and you can no longer unlock the bootloader.
It's not a matter of him not considering you a brother.

Prepping for 4.4.3 OTA Question

The M8 is the first HTC phone I've had. I was a Motorola fan until they locked down their phones tight. I've S-Offed, rooted and bootloader unlocked and TWRP installed on my M8. I'm running a few mods through Xposed and have bloatware frozen with Titanium. I'm just curious if I need to S-on or relock the bootloader and flash the stock recovery to take the OTA? I've heard to wait for devs to get ahold of the update and check it out first but even then what preparations do I need to make? Would really appreciate the help guys. Thanks in advance.
In order to take the OTA you will pretty much have to go back to stock. I would wait until it drops and flash a custom version so you can keep all your tweaks.
If you WANT to accept the ota, I believe you will need stock ROM, stock kernel, and you will need stock recovery. Not sure about locked boot loader, but s off should be fine.
If you DONT want to accept the ota, flash a ROM like cleanrom with a custom recovery and hang tight until someone packages the firmware. For this you will need to use one of the two s off methods, firewater or sunshine s off
By that do you mean one that devs make flashable through custom recovery? Sorry I feel like a newb with this phone. Wish all manufacturers could just do things the same way. I definitely don't want to lose root or unlocked bootloader
Guess I'll just hang tight and see what other people are cooking up once the OTA drops

Great. Thanks for the help. Definitely like HTC better than Motorola already.
Yeah, I'm sure Scott will make a flashable zip of the stock rom. He's going to stock now to be able to pull files and such. Just wait it out till a flashable zip hits.
Will it be just like flashing on a Motorola? Flash from custom recovery and all my data settings stay just like if I took the OTA?

Unlocked Bootloader, just a few questions.

ok so i finally decided to unlock the bootloader via sunshine app, it all went successfully even though the phone didnt restart itself, i had to manually restart it. i am right now on 4.4.4 rooted with 4.4 safestrap recovery. anything you guys recommend me doing as far as the goodies... like new custom rom, kernels etc? first time i unlock a bootloader so just gathering some ideas of where to start tinkering.

If you were already rooted you could flash an oe rom plus firmware only. BUT, if you were on that OTA update you couldn't downgrade to root. At least that's the way I think it works. I'm rooted and on og5. I did read though that with either the 5.1 update or marshmallow update that it requires you to update the bootloader, which means og5 is high as we can go and stay rooted. Unless something has changed.

Agreed, except that you can maintain the OD5 bootloader throughout, and still upgrade ROM further. I think? You keep the OD5 bootloader and only upgrade the ROM?
So, currently we stuck in Super Lollipop 5.0 (og5 will be last one, if next one is 5.1) by verizon's locked bootloader..
Anyone can go further, it really good for all of us.
I will be staying with og5 with bod5 bootloader unless someone comes up with a exploit again to root anything after bod5

Out of curiosity, when you food that what version were you on?
I had downgraded to ncg, plugged my phone into the computer and ran kies. It said I had an update (of course), to android 5.1. I got pretty excited until I read the details. It said it was og5. So kies says og5 is 5.1. Maybe Verizon update manager says same thing.

Camera not working on G3

The rear-facing camera on my AT&T LG G3 D850 (now on Cricket) started acting up a few months ago. It would work for a few seconds, then purple lines would appear and would crash. I could get it to work sometimes for a few pics but then it would crash every time. I tried another camera app. I tried it in safe mode. I uninstalled the camera app and let it reinstall. I did a factory reset. I even ordered a new camera and installed it. None of these have fixed the issue. Now almost every time I open the camera app it just crashes and gives the message "Unfortunately, Camera has stopped." It works for a little bit maybe one out of 50 times I open it. The front-facing camera works fine. I posted on another site and a few people have said they have the same issue but no idea how to fix it. Please help.

If it was rooted doing a factory reset won't reset anything that may have changed during root. If flashing it back to stock doesn't fix it it would be a hardware issue.

No, only kitkat and you'd have to have to use an AT&T sim to be able to ota update to it. As well as now flashing back to stock is risky it downgrading from MM.

As it says. Some have bricked when downgrading from MM. Most have not but some have bricked. So it can brick when downgrading from MM.
But unless you changed something system wise when your rooted it seems you may have a hardware problem somewhere. But if you ever tampered with anything then it could be from that.

Never even opened up the phone before this. And I don't have MM, I have Lollipop. It won't let me upgrade to MM because I'm on Cricket.
