Camera not working on G3 - AT&T LG G3

The rear-facing camera on my AT&T LG G3 D850 (now on Cricket) started acting up a few months ago. It would work for a few seconds, then purple lines would appear and would crash. I could get it to work sometimes for a few pics but then it would crash every time. I tried another camera app. I tried it in safe mode. I uninstalled the camera app and let it reinstall. I did a factory reset. I even ordered a new camera and installed it. None of these have fixed the issue. Now almost every time I open the camera app it just crashes and gives the message "Unfortunately, Camera has stopped." It works for a little bit maybe one out of 50 times I open it. The front-facing camera works fine. I posted on another site and a few people have said they have the same issue but no idea how to fix it. Please help.

Sorry, yes I am. It was rooted but stock OS, but unrooted before I did factory reset.

If it was rooted doing a factory reset won't reset anything that may have changed during root. If flashing it back to stock doesn't fix it it would be a hardware issue.

No, only kitkat and you'd have to have to use an AT&T sim to be able to ota update to it. As well as now flashing back to stock is risky it downgrading from MM.

As it says. Some have bricked when downgrading from MM. Most have not but some have bricked. So it can brick when downgrading from MM.
But unless you changed something system wise when your rooted it seems you may have a hardware problem somewhere. But if you ever tampered with anything then it could be from that.

Never even opened up the phone before this. And I don't have MM, I have Lollipop. It won't let me upgrade to MM because I'm on Cricket.

Noob Verizon GS3 question

In the past i have rooted other phones without wiping the phone, however, from looking at the root methods for the Verizon GS3 It looks as though you have to flash a rom in the process of rooting it. Is it possible to root the Verizon GS3 without wiping data?

Yep, that's how it was for me. I was worried I would lose my data too, but I was pleasently surprised.

Since your not changing roms to a custom one but instead going stock to stock modded, you can dirty flash and you will be fine.
A dirty flash you don't loose your data.
Using the "Root66" method in the Verizon Development forum does not require a wiping of user/application data.
Not the first screen shot of Verizon saying they will unlock the bootloader, and this is one of a few places I can post.

OTA & ROM. Help Please...?

Some background info:
Nexus 5
Unlocked Bootloader
TWRP
Running Purity Rom
I have been running this Rom for about 2 months with no major issues. Now I am being prompted to do an OTA to 4.4.3. If I was stock that would be normal and expected but I am not sure what to do in my situation. I can not stop the prompt, I clear it from my notification window and it just appears back in 10 seconds or so.
I have tried to figure it out but cant find anything on the Purity thread, and I cant post my question there because I don't have 10 posts...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I apologize if this answer is in a million places and I didn't see it.
Do not accept the OTA. Flash another rom if you want rid of the notification

With that being said, Is it even possible to update the ROM I'm currently using without doing a wipe. They have released a few new versions since I flashed.
I use cataclysm and I don't want to switch roms. Does any one know how to remove the update notification? I've never had arom ask me to install it before

I am in a pretty similar situation. At this point I'm happy with the stability and performance of the build I'm on. Upgrading to 4.3.3 isn't a huge concern at this moment. I just don't have the time to reconfigure all applications and settings if I have to do a wipe.
Figured out I out if you disable viewing notifications from the Google play services app the notification will go away.

Reading Puritys thread, you can dirty flash it, but do it at your own risk. I read quite a bit of success doing it.
I run Purity 4.4.3 and it's really nice.
But like I said, either disable it if you don't care for the update, or try a dirty flash.
Or back everything up, and wipe, then flash and then restore.
But I take no responsibility for what may happen if you dirty flash, or anything.

I forgot to come back and update this thread. The issue for me was resolved by doing a dirty update, with no wipes at all. Obviously do a nandroid back up in your respective recovery first.

If you were already rooted you could flash an oe rom plus firmware only. BUT, if you were on that OTA update you couldn't downgrade to root. At least that's the way I think it works. I'm rooted and on og5. I did read though that with either the 5.1 update or marshmallow update that it requires you to update the bootloader, which means og5 is high as we can go and stay rooted. Unless something has changed.

Agreed, except that you can maintain the OD5 bootloader throughout, and still upgrade ROM further. I think? You keep the OD5 bootloader and only upgrade the ROM?
So, currently we stuck in Super Lollipop 5.0 (og5 will be last one, if next one is 5.1) by verizon's locked bootloader..
Anyone can go further, it really good for all of us.
I will be staying with og5 with bod5 bootloader unless someone comes up with a exploit again to root anything after bod5

Out of curiosity, when you food that what version were you on?
I had downgraded to ncg, plugged my phone into the computer and ran kies. It said I had an update (of course), to android 5.1. I got pretty excited until I read the details. It said it was og5. So kies says og5 is 5.1. Maybe Verizon update manager says same thing.

You cant update if you're rooted, you yes you do
You need to flash stock Lollipop. I'm not positive, but the 5.1.1 tot file may be in tung's root thread
***Edit - See the OP thread, put a link to the stock tot thread
I just downloaded the stock firmware and used the same method that I used for root.

Yes it does - flawlessly and quickly, even with my Spigen case. The fingerprint scanner also works now with other supporting apps, like LastPass, thanks to the standard API.

The root method will not work because the tot file is for Android 5.1 not 6.0. I am currently unsure if you can return to root Android 5.1 from Android 6.0 with tungkick root tot. Has anyone tried this to see if you can downgrade and root?

Yes, I've had a rooted phone and successfully updated it via smart switch. Though you have to re-root your phone after that, I don't consider it as a problem.
With this lats update the camera does not store the photos on the sd card, someone happens?
What is the PDA version?
Confirmed - APEQ does not allow storing photos to the sdcard! WTF!
i have apeq and no problems with sd card and photos
Likewise, no issue storing photos on SD card in latest update.
