[Q] GPE conversion required? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Alright so my goal is to get CyanogenMod with the ElementalX kernel on my Verizon M8. From previous experiments of mine and on the thread for it it states that it won't work on the Verizon model. Now currently I have a GPE ROM with the ElementalX kernel so I obviously can tell that it will indeed work but my question is am I going to have to do a conversion to GPE using an RUU in order to get the setup I want or can I simply just install Cyanogen and flash ElementalX without problems? My assumption is no and I'll have to do the complicated conversion but I'm hoping that I'm wrong and it's simpler than I'm making it out to be ?
EDIT: Ok so within the past half hour i've become a bit more unsure as to whether this will work or not so let me get it straight on what I think currently. Currently from what I've seen, by converting to the Google Play Edition via an RUU I can enable myself to be able to use some if not all of the international ROM's + kernels such as the one I'm aiming for, ElementalX. I see that by simply using a GPE ROM I can use the ElementalX kernel but I want to use Cyanogenmod which isn't GPE. Matter of fact I believe I tried it once and messed up quite a bit so from that I get that by converting to GPE's filesystem/firmware I would be able to use the kernel I want which means I can use the ROM I want too. Am I right or am I wrong that by converting to GPE I will be able to use that specific kernel with CyanogenMod/other non sense ROM's?

Gpe we have is a PORT... the gpe edition is only gsm I believe.. I just came back to Verizon from years on AT&T and converting was easy but since we're CDMA I don't think you can actually convert it

So in short you're saying it removes CDMA compatibility meaning no calling/data/texting/etc? Well sh**. Would there be any other ways to use that kernel on a Verizon device?

As far as I know... I've been away from CDMA for 4 years so not sure maybe now with the Sim cards it can be done but as far as I know no it wouldn't work... There was a guy trying to convert his vzw m8 to the Dev edition and as far as I know that was a no go too... My guess is you would need a ROM with a compatible base to use that kernel

But if you do that then other things break

Well crap lol, that sort of ruins my hopes for this to work . Ugh so disappointed atm. O well. Guess I'm stuck looking elsewhere for something to suit my needs.

Do NOT try to convert this phone to a gpe or Dev edition with ruus or any voodoo magic otherwise. The Verizon model uses different partitions from the other and the results would be catastrophic

Just wanted to start up the discussion thread for the Cricket Galaxy S3 model SCH-R530C. We share models with the USCC version, but the data doesnt work correctly when a USCC build is flashed.

Actually. The cricket GS3 is basically the USCC GS3 with a different modem. So, they're very similar. Exactly why its in this forum.

Have everything working but the camera and MMS it looks like. I'm not a dev by far so someone who knows what they're doing can do this right I'm sure.

My cousin got the cricket s3, ive been helping him out, getting rooted and cwm, now just need a real ROM. I cant seem to find any dedicated places for this phone specifically, there doesnt seem to be much dev work on it either, or am i wrong?

There isn't much work on US Cellular and MetroPCS so you can expect the same for Cricket. ShabbyPenguin is being a gentleman and devoting some time. He's already started to post on CricketUsers.
I got everything working minus MMS and camera with CM10. I think others can figure out the rest.
Yep, wondering myself if a JB TW STOCK ROM can be put on here.
I have the S3 on VZW and Stock w/ Root w/ Touch CWM. The only issue is since this is ICS and not JB yet, NFC doesn't work. (unless its just not working) Says something about it can't handle the file size in transfer.
We got it with a rebate for $330 what about you?

Stock NFC can only handle small transfers like a contact card. S-Beam will allow you to transfers photos and video but of course this will only work between Samsung devices.

Stock NFC as in ICS? Whats different than ICS NFC and JB NFC? Because I can transfer anything else with my phone. Like normal 8mp images between other JB S3's and Note 2 with JB.
Is JB NFC updated or advanced?
EDIT: NVM dont know why NFC worked before without sbeam, turned on sbeam a second ago and even transferred a video.
In case people in this thread didn't know noobl did a good bit of work and got the camera working.

[Q] Noob question

Been waiting for today but now I don't know which phone to get lol.
I haven't used Sense since the Evo 4G and didn't really care for it, so I'm not sure if I'll like the new version or not. I'm wondering if I get the Verizon model, can I just install the GPE rom to get vanilla android? Obviously once the phone is rooted and all that jazz. I've never owned a phone that had a GPE edition so I don't know if you can flash the GPE rom on the non-GPE version...

There is a good chance we will see GPE ROMs if we get root. The Verizon M7 did.

Nice, well then I'll probably just get the Verizon model and if I don't like Sense, I'll just install a different launcher while waiting for a GPE rom.

I installed it a hour ago. No problems yet
I have been wanting to convert mine to a dev for a long time, and there are two different posts out on the m8 forum for this but they only work for the gsm versions such as international, tmobile and at&t. And I"am sure there has to be a way for our verizon m8 its just finding it, as ours is a world phone being both cdma and gsm, even if it had to only run on the gsm side it could still work if they get the volte update pushed out as part of L then there would be no need for cdma for us and we could just totally run off verizon lte which is actually gsm.
So this may be a possibility in the near future especially. I myself not only want the updates directly from htc which are faster but I would prefer to never ever again have to run verizon software / firmware because all verizon wants to do is lock us all out.
At least all the other carriers allow htc dev to unlock the bootloaders but verizon just likes to be total asses about this, I guess they think they are too big for there britches, for this exact reason I really wish I could switch to at&t but I dont have coverage for them at home with zero bars maybe some edge coverage 1% of the time never enough to use the phone on, and verizon is not much better with only getting 1x data and no plans to upgrade.
So I"am with all of you on this I would like to convert my verizon m8 to dev also and ditch verizon having any control over my phone ever again, as I pay them for service and not to try to lock down my phone which I"am supposed to legally own with honoring my side of the their 2 year contract.
But for that matter you can buy a phone at full retail price and they still try to lock you down.

I currently have an S-Off and rooted M8 running the latest FluentRom for Verizon.

Since you will be on a different carrier I would say yes.
What network and where are you going, I can try and edit a file for you now so that you can just flash it and hopefully you will get the network.
Even though ROMs are multicarrier, they don't support ALL carriers, so I may need to make a few changes to get you data. but I am here for you, as a friend to help. If my ROM turns out to not work well for you, I will help you get set up on another ROM. I don't fight for users. :good:

Verizon Bootloader - Unlock after One Year? Update?

Good morning,
I have an XT1028 running on Verizon Prepaid; I've had it on continuous service for over a year now through VZW. Prior to updating it past 4.4.2, I unlocked my bootloader via SunShine and recently updated to the CDMA build of CM12.1 by Meticulus.
I'd love the option to take advantage of some Lollipop-based kernels like Attacked, but they appear to require the Lollipop bootloader to function correctly. Is it possible for me to update my bootloader and retain my unlock for an XT1028? Or, alternatively, given that my phone has been on VZW for a year, if my phone were re-locked by a bootloader update, has anyone had any luck or experience receiving a bootloader unlock directly through Verizon? I've heard anecdotes of Verizon's policy of unlocking after six months or one year, but never actually found anything where XT1028 users have successfully done this.
Thanks!
From what I've heard and experienced, upgrading bootloader will not relock it in the process - held true for my own RAZR M. The problem is whether you have the 5.0 bootloader files / OTA at hand...

Thanks for the quick reply. As far as I am aware, there is a flashable zip to update a CDMA bootloader to lollipop 41.19, although it is designed for Boost so it requires reflashing the radio to get it to work for Verizon. I may give it a shot after a bit more research, as the only thing left before I'm fully satisfied with 5.1 is potentially a more battery-efficient kernel.

I have the flashable zip and have the 5.0 BL on my own Boost G. It's hard to say whether the Boost one is compatible with Verizon's, because the BL upgrade process touches 5 partitions, and there is a possibility that one of them may be different between the 2 variants.
You should give it a shot. I have no desktop or I would

I'm wondering what the downside, other than the obvious(creating a paperweight), would be on flashing the Boost software on a XT1028 on 4.4.4. Would it just fail and remain the same, or if not could one back out by flashing the Verizon 4.4.4 firmware.

Like Andy says, signature verification on stock recovery is a lot tighter, so I'm inclined to guess that it would fail out of the gate.

That'd be my guess as well, I'm just trying to ascertain the probability of creating a paperweight(a nice one though). If it fails on the outset, the probability is low.
Bout to be in the same boat

I'm wondering what the downside, other than the obvious(creating a paperweight), would be on flashing the Boost software on a XT1028 on 4.4.4. Would it just fail and remain the same, or if not could one back out by flashing the Verizon 4.4.4 firmware.

I have a spare XT1028 and I'm tempted.

I'm using them as mini-tablets(WiFi only, so the radio is not important), I got 2 of them at Best Buy for $40 each. One is in the kitchen and is a home automation switch/ip camera. I've not deployed the 2nd one, so I could try it on that one.

Thanks, I've been reading the thread over at Android Forums. It's downloaded and copied to the phone, but not installed.
Did you put it on the root of your SD. You need stock recovery

No, I just copied it over to the phone. I've been re-reading the Android Forums thread to make sure I'm not missing anything. These phones are my first non-Samsung devices(I don't count the ol' Vizio), and the Moto world's a bit different. I want to reduce the chance of making any unforced errors.
I understand ....better safe than sorry

It's an ota so I'm sure you put it on the root of your SD card go to stock recovery and hit install update and from my understanding it will just turn your phone into a boost Mobile. I won't be able to try for another week or two unless you can confirm. I know for sure they pit the Brazil ota on the Asia one with stock recovery.

What's holding me back right how is determining if there's a pathway back in case something goes badly. I see three outcomes(ordered good to bad): everything works and I'm on Boost mobile, it refuses to do anything, and it messes up. I want to be prepared for the last possibility. I seen horror stories about downgrading, and I want to minimize that possibility.
Added the Moto G into my sig. Hey, Mowned, no wearbles?

And... It's option 2. It fails on verifying the package and aborts. No harm, no foul. So we wait for a few weeks/months(I've heard as late as August) for Verizon to come out with their OTA.
