I currently have an S-Off and rooted M8 running the latest FluentRom for Verizon.
Since the M8 is a "global phone", can I buy a European sim once I get over there, pop it in, and be good to go?
Yes, you can. However, i used to use the ViperRom not the one you mentioned. and it worked fine.
Mhmm that's good to know. Thanks!

Fluent ROM will work fine too.
Although use w.e ROM suits you best, but don't change just because someone else says they like another ROM better, you be the judge, it's your phone!

Haha good to know!
I wasn't sure if things for overseas get pulled from roms since obviously Verizon is here in the states.

Fluent ROM v1.1.3 is based off the China S-ROM
v2.0 is based off the International ROM
and v4.0 is a Sprint port.
you will be happy.
I suggest you flash v2.0

Will I have to change the APN's once I get over there?

Since you will be on a different carrier I would say yes.
What network and where are you going, I can try and edit a file for you now so that you can just flash it and hopefully you will get the network.
Even though ROMs are multicarrier, they don't support ALL carriers, so I may need to make a few changes to get you data. but I am here for you, as a friend to help. If my ROM turns out to not work well for you, I will help you get set up on another ROM. I don't fight for users. :good:

However, I feel you should be able to pop that SIM card in and just need to edit the APN and you are good. to. go.

I appreciate it!
I will be in Germany but no idea what carrier I will be on. I figured once I got over there, I would just buy a cheap sim card but will let you know more the closer it gets.
Bump! I'm running stock, S-off and rooted 5.0.1. I'm headed to Germany in a few days--can i just take any SIM and pop it in the phone when i get over there? Thanks!

Ended up selling my M8 before I went to Europe but it worked fine with my S6. Just had to change the APN to whatever your new carrier/sim is.

Hey Nexus S forum,
I've got this nexus S from my friend. I've been a hero user, but I ended up buying it for like 50 bucks (steal right?). He decided he wanted a different phone, anyways nor the time or place.
With my HTC Hero (Sprint) I know if I want to wipe my phone of music/video/pictures I can just format my SD Card.
My question for you guys/gals is how would I go about doing that with the Nexus S. I know since it has built in Storage there really isn't a way i could "format" if I am correct. Will i have to essentially just select and delete all the folders?
If there is an easier way, like maybe should i go factory reset, or maybe some other route that'd be great.
Anyways just thought I'd come here before messing with it.
p.s.
Is flashing and everything going to be similar to how i would with the Hero, or is there anything maybe slightly different that I need to do?
Alright Thanks everyone for your input.
Delete the whole sdcard by either going to storage tab in settings menu or format sdcard via cwm recovery.
Thank You
Thank you much for the info. I'll try that tonight and install a ROM i've been wanting to try for awhile [MIUI]
Thanks again for the heads up!

Flashing roms and kernels are just like any other android phone with an unlocked bootloader. Enjoy! Just make sure the rom you download is compatible with your model. There are three major versions of the nexus s. The GT-i9020, GT-i9023, and SPH-D720. When flashing a stock rom it is important to get the rom for your exact model. Example GT-i9020a for AT&T's model, or GT-i9020t for T-Mobile etc.

I have the LG G3 on a custom Rom for Tmobile. I'm switching over to At&t tomorrow and taking the phone with me. Can I just install a stock based rom over my tmobile stock rom or do I need to follow a method. Please and thank you for any support or point in the right direction.
Its Rooted with TWRP installed already.

Yeah the rim does not affect the carrier. Why where you running a D851 rom on a D850? Wifi calling?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You dont really need to do anything as TM and ATT use the same LTE bands and share IMEI databsae info. I had a TM note3 that I used on ATT until I got a G3. The ATT sim will register you on the network and you'll want to make sure you have the correct APN settings ( The ATT store can do it while your there or can tell you what's needed) The only issue I had was the TM modem didn't always get great signal and wouldn't place calls in some areas. Not sure of G3 but ATT modem wouldn't flash on my note 3 via odin or otherwise... Cheers!

We can't. No Kernel source has been released, and Android M needs a new bootloader which is unique for each model.

thats a thought in mind i had. i am tempted to try to odin flash it. it wouldnt hurt to try. my device reads as 920F but i dont know if odin will detect it that way based on the build prop. but its worth a shot to try. hell it may work. ive seen stranger things occur..especially with my phone.

Yes. If it doesn't work. It just won't work...it either will flash or wont flash.....if anything..I keep a stock bootloader and rom on a flash drive with odin and a custom kernel and a copy of philz recovery for odin for emergencies.

I was going to but after reading thru the threads, I'm gonna hold off for official release (which should be soon for European S6) becasues apparently the battery drains from an unofficial upgrade path is pretty serious. And some people are getting force closes. I really really want to tho, so I may. I mean KNOX isnt important to me. Still debating.
Great. Root/TWRP/all that comes with it is out for the LG V20... H918
but anyone have news, or better, ever try to root the Canadian Version ? (H915)
I'm SOOOO frustrated with Mobile Manufacturer. All I want is a powerfull phone, with the possibility to add storage (sdcard), change the damm battery and the possibility to install custom roms.
But it seems the word out there these days is to avoid those 3 things as much as possible... ARG!!!
Not even the AT&T and Verizon variants have their bootloader unlocked and rooted yet. So it's too early to be frustrated.
Any news on LG-H915?

Also waiting! Had a Note 7 and G5 canadian No Roots for them either!

Could it be based on the fact he's on a different network? I thought by rooting, theres a chance to lose the network unlock? I understand he's using the H915 on Rogers (similar frequency to AT&T I think), so could that be the issue?
Curious as to why the service isn't working if the AT&T variant is working, when supposodly H915 and H910 are "the same".

That's very unfortunate he hasn't been on for 2 days. I would test myself, but this is my daily driver, and I have no dev experience to debug issues that may araise.
Thank you for figuring out how to root, and unlock the BL regardless.
We hope the Dev of the h915 gets back online to provide us any updates on the progress to unlock the BL and root this model. It would be very nice to get them get them ready before Christmas day... but well, I guess we are gonna have to wait a bit longer. I know that most of us promise a nice donation if we get there anytime soon. This won't be forgotten for sure.
While root is nice and this is my first device I've used that doesnt have root remember to weigh the pros and cons. With no current method to revert you may lose out on any future otas and be stuck forever on your current android version. Personally I am in no rush although i am curious about it working for the 915. If there ever is a revert method i would be more inclined to try rooting
i actually find it a positive thing to stay in a known good version of android where things works.
I've noticed with each never version of android, things keeps getting locked down more and more.
I never went for Apple because of its lock down policy, and now Google is slowly becoming another Apple, trying to lock down the phones so people have no freedom of choice to tinkle around with their ROM, just all in the name of keeping Dev happy, because they claim when user has too much power, then their work is not safe. (by that they mean they can't milk money dry to the end users, if end users have the ability to hack)
I see this has been asked quite a few times, but I want to clarify a little further.
I'm in New Zealand, so I can't update my LG G3 to android 6.0 as I need an AT&T sim card. I was wondering if I could use an expired at&t sim, without a plan or credit or anything like that, to update my phone.
Thanks!
