hey everyone,
i just updates my desire s with a new rom (not mentioning the name) and my phone is acting kinda crazy... as in the calls are not getting connected properly and half the time people complain they arent able to contact me either... the problem is im not much familiar about this stuff... bt, have a feeling it might be the problem with the radio. i tried restoring to older backups. no difference and realised that the radio doesnt get backed up.
i need help... does anyone know what to do about this...???
thank you in advance...

Relax.
And stop with the sad smileys...
The radio is not affected by a ROM flash, it is on a separate partition and you don't have to fiddle around with it if the problem has presented itself only after flashing a new ROM and was working alright previously.
Also, there is no disgrace in mentioning the ROM name, so please do tell us the following details:
Are you Revolutionary S-off or did you unlock using HTC Dev site?
What ROM are you currently using? Is this the first ROM you have flashed, coming from the stock one, or have you tried out other custom ROMs before this?
Let us know the answers to the above questions and we'll try our best to help.
Yeah, please tell us the name of the ROM, we'll be able to give you better help. Some AOSP ROMs (Oxygen, BlackICE) have calling issues. Also, as enimaamit said, a ROM does not change the Radio, it needs to be flashed separately (something i don't recommend you do). The problem is probably in the ROM

Yup. And thanks for that additional bit of info about Oxygen and BlackIce.
And another possibility is that this could be his first custom ROM (based on an official Sense ROM), and he might be coming from a stock ROM which he just unlocked using HTC Dev, so the kernel could still be stock... (if he didn't flash boot.img separately), and this might be allowing him to boot, but causing other issues like the one he just described.... I have an uncanny feeling that might be it!
I don't know, just letting loose the Sherlock inside
well, this wasnt my first custom rom... i have flashed from stock rom->cm nightly builds->oxygen->icecream sandwich 4.0 alpha builds to the current wp 7.0.4 rom by mmmcfc... i used to use his previous version-wp7.0.2 which was awesome and gave me no problems but, ever since i updated it, i have been having this problem. i tried flashing back to other roms as well and still kinda the same issue. and im on revolutionary s-off...
hope these answers are helpful... thanks for the reply guys...
EDIT: also, i used to have similar issues when i was in the stock rom at the very beginning which got solved later when i recieved an official update...i.e. before i s-off'd my phone...

He He He... guess i'm not much of a sleuth then!!
Are you sure the call drop issue is not a network provider problem {since it is happening on other ROMs as well, and it wasn't there before (your radio has been the same all along BTW)}
Have you tried putting your SIM in a basic phone and trying out whether the problem persists....this could indicate a network problem. I remember a few months ago Airtel service had gone to the dogs and everyone on Airtel (especially in Delhi) was writhing in agony...
Secondly, try using another carrier's SIM card in your DS and see if the problem still persists...
sry...i think u got me wrong der... i used to face the same problem on stock rom while i purchased the phone but, after updating it,it was pretty much and i never faced any problems until now. and i dont think its the carriers problem as im able to use the same sim card on a basic phone without any issues... and other users on the same carrier around me aint facing any problems with the network either... so, i guess im pretty much stuck and back to square one... :S
First of all please accept my apologies if I am posting in the incorrect site location - this isn't the most user friendly site I've ever come across, but it is definately helpful to to get help from you friendly and helpful people!
I've just purchased a Galaxy Note 2 (N7105 Vodafone Australia). I've managed to unlock, root and install TWRP perfectly.
My problem is that I've tried three different custom roms (and made donations to say thanks) in the last few days and none of them seem to work properly with the s pen. The three roms I've tried are Cyanogen, Android Revolution and Omega (in that order). All three of these roms seem great, until I take out the s pen....
The only one of these three roms that will even recognise when the pen touches the screen is Cyanogen (which is the only of the three roms that don't come with the samsung s pen apps). Both Android Revolution and Omega came with the s pen apps pre-installed, but don't seem to work with the s pen at all?? Am I doing something wrong? Are there s pen drivers or something that I need to install? Omega is currently installed and it does vibrate and make a noise when I remove the pen from the dock, but does nothing when the pen touches the screen.
Another thing to note before anyone tries installing these roms on this device is that, after installing Android Revolution or Omega, the phone has no reception and says sim isn't installed. I managed to correct this on Android Revolution by installing the modem driver on top of the rom - this took me a day or two to figure out it was the issue and how to fix! But it doesn't seem to fix the problem with Omega rom, which is my favourite (apart from the problems listed).
I know its a pretty new phone and therefore there aren't many tried and tested roms, but the three I've tried are pretty common so I was expecting more information about them online than what I've found. Any assistance or advice in relation to getting the s pen to function and the phone to recognise the sim card on Omega v13 with my N7105 would be greatly appreciated. If I can't fix this pretty quickly I'm going back to stock rom until there's more info out there about roms that work with the N7105.
thanks

Hey not sure if you found what you were looking for over in the Note II forum or not but it sounds to me like you are flashing the wrong ROM. I had similar issues with the SIM not being recognized on my Note II. I was trying the same ROMs you mentioned. Make sure the ROM you are flashing is for the exact model phone you have. Also, some ROMs will require you to flash the correct radio for your carrier.
Definitely head over to the Note II forum to find more specific information but keep those things in mind! Hope this helps!

Thanks. Somebody PM'd me with a link to a few Note 2 roms - but the forum won't let me post it because I'm too new of a member. If anyone needs it just PM me.
I'm trying Aroma, but am now havings issues with TWRP seeing the zip file... I'm still trying - currently copying the zip to the TWRP folder on the sd card because I've found some forums about TWRP reading zips from internal storage. I've also had issues with Clockworkmod on this Note 2, so would rather not have to go back to it. Clockworkmod worked well for me for years on my old trusty HTC Desire HD, but really made a mess of the Note 2... I've only had this phone 8 days and had sooo many issues with just trying to get a custom rom running!! Even if this works, its only Android 4.1.2 - Whereas I've got 4.2.1 running smooth as butter on a two year old HTC

Cool deal. I hope you get it worked out. That is strange that Clockwordmod is giving you issues. That is what I use and it has treated me well. Maybe it has to do with the difference in hardware since I have the US AT&T version? Good luck!
Since Im a complete newbie I wanted to ask a few questions before doing anything stupid.
1. I noticed people are already posting new ROMs and kernels. Do I need them? I mean, I like the stock and everything but there are a few things I can't do. Why do YOU root and change ROMs?
2. I found a lot of kernels, and I understood that it can improve my performance and battery life. I would very much like to improve my battery life. The thing is, I don't know how. I do know that people are UVing and OCing their CPU, etc but what can a noob do who is not only a noob but also just bought a phone that the rooting thing is new to it. So no everything is fully developed, optimized and ready to go in a few clicks. Do I still need to wait a couple more weeks to change my kernel? I always read kernel threads and their changelogs but it is like jibarish to me. I can't even decide which one to pick.
3. I would really like to change my icons in the quick settings panel. Am I able to do that? How?
4. I tried setting Hebrew as my default language but that just moves the whole interface left. Because in Hebrew we write right to left. It wasn't like this when I had my GS3. I used a few CM Roms on my s3 and they were fine until the update to 4.3. Then it did the same thing on the S3 but I didn't know it would be like this on the N5. Is it something that can be fixed? Can I email Google or call them about this?
5. Is there anyone who is willing to recommend personally some ROMs, mods, apps or any modifications at all?
Thank you in advance!

1 & 2 - I recommend reading the FAQ first, stickied at the top of this Q&A Section. This should give you a good starting knowledge
3 - would need an AOSP based ROM with this feature (CM / AOKP perhaps?)
4 - sorry, can't help
5 - No. This is against what XDA stands for. Read "No best rom threads" sticky in this forum.
1. All your answers can be found here for why you should root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2510966 or http://lifehacker.com/top-10-reasons-to-root-your-android-phone-1079161983
2. Franco Kernel is very friendly to use and once rooted everything can be done from his paid google play app. check it out
3. Once rooted and with customer rom installed like cyanogenmod or paranoid android the themes you download from the google play store will sometimes change the settings icons too
4. i believe cyanogen mod roms have a good hebrew compatibility
5. Just start off very simply. use the cyanogenmod installer from the playstore and wait for the nexus 5 to become compatible. wait for the device to get into more peoples hands and youll see an influx of great roms and mods
good luck and welcome to the nexus community.

My choice was to stay with Stock ROM. I am new to Nexus devices so I wanted to see the subtleties between stock and AOSP.
That said, De-odexed roms are easier to modifiy so I flashed one of those

Go to settings > About > tap build version 10 times to enable developer options.
Go in to developer options and you can change the screen alignment.
I second the FAQ at the top of this forum. Incredibly helpful and informative for anyone new to rooting. That should have everything you need, but I guess if I were to add anything to what the above guys (or girls) said, it would be to root FIRST before playing around with your N5 too much. Not sure if it's really obvious or not yet, but the rooting process will result in wiping your device, so it's generally recommended to get that out of the way.
That being said, once you're rooted, I can't recommend Titanium Backup enough for making sure all your stuff is available after any future ROM changes.
Lastly, welcome to the Nexus family =) Glad to have ya

Its just easier. Every system app has an .odex file too that requires extra modification by a themer / developer. Deodexed systems don't need that

Hey all, I have read the One Mini forum top to bottom and am still trying to figure out which ROM I should be using.. i,e CM vs Hybrid VS Magio
Im brand new to Android .. would be great to hear people feedback on the various options .. preferably want to run Kit Kat .. any opinions as to which is the most stable?
Also .. are there any definitive guides as to which root method to use i.e. TWRP or CWM .. or will that depend upon which ROM I want to use .. - and where does S-OFF fit into this whole picture
apologise for the noobness in advance
Cheers
K
The Rom you choose is down to own personal preference, each has their benefits but again that is down to the user. As you’ve “read the forum top to bottom” you will know the Roms available and how stable they are for your device, as that is normally stated in each OP along with installation procedure and requirements e.g. cm11 requires that must have a custom recovery installed that allows SELinux (please see JMZ's Recovery thread with SELinux support for 4.4 KitKat in Original android dev) .As for guides on root - there are plenty step by step guides and walkthroughs on the Q&A Thread. Forget about S-off for now (search Google for ”what is s-off?”) SO... Find the Rom that suits you best (**optional**donate to dev & click thanks if you like their hard work and commitment). Read its requirements and installation procedure and follow exactly. This also applies on rooting/ unlocking bootloader. The main thing to remember is to Always read things twice and follow the instructions step by step.
Thanks for your reply.
I suppose I was just looking for some friendly opinions on people who have tried the various options out there. It's my daily phone so cant be without it in case something stuffs up.
Regarding the "JMZ's Recovery thread with SELinux support for 4.4 KitKat" for h8drift's C11 .. I presume that is the TWRP version 2.6.3.0 .. have already grabbed it available on this thread ..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2418938&page=5 ?
Unfortunately am not allowed to post in that thread and I just want to get things right in my head before I start .. so its
1. Unlock bootloader (via HTC)
2. Install Custom Recover (from above)
3. Flash ROM
4. Install Gapps
done?
Just out of interest when is a fastboot required? .. in this case does the kernel required come via twrp?
Follow this step by step http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2601741. Flash the jmz recovery as you stated in above post, also use latest supersu and latest cm11 link... If that's the rom your planning on using. Btw KitKat is rolling out as an OTA very soon so if you don't feel confident rooting just wait. Good luck
Thanks for that link - is exactly what I was looking for. Everything in one place!
There doesn't seem to be anything like it here in the mini section.
I know about the 4.4 release .. i actually just asked that question somewhere else .. if CM11 is all that necessary once the 4.4 is rolled out to all devices ... what do you think?
Sorry one more Q.. is enabling USB Debugging option necessary?

It's a developer tool.
"USB Debugging is intended for development purposes only. It can be used to copy data between your computer and your device, install applications on your device without notification, and read log data

the more Roms equals more choice. The OTA 4.4 release will obviously be stock so will be full of bloat, cm¹¹ is slim and smooth but will not have blinkfeed
If your running Windows 8 on pc you may encounter problems with ADB
Just waiting for CM11 to be more stable before I flash ... no speakerphone in call is a bit of a deal breaker ..

This is my first post, please be kind. I really didn't want to be "that guy" and post a thread like this... but afters weeks of searching multiple forums (including xda), googling, testing, contacted game dev support, etc... I find myself desperate enough to create a thread about the compatibility of one (notoriously stubborn) game and CM11 Nightlies. I believe this is the only community that could possibly shed some light on the issue.
Game: Puzzle and Dragons (North American version)
ROM(s): Any ROM based on CM11 with nightly changes from September on.
Result: The game will go into a data download loop at first load, and/or FC after initial data download.
I'll try to rattle off all the details I've come across in my research. Puzzle and Dragons (which will be referred to as PAD from here on) will not run if it detects Xposed, I acknowledge this and it is unrelated to this specific issue. The japanese version of PAD also does not run if it detects root, certain build.prop values, and also had a data download loop bug which was related to Date/Time/Timezone. Also unrelated, as my problem is with the less-strict North American version.
I have flashed countless CM11 based ROMs and have determined that there was something changed in the nightly commits starting in September that is causing the problem. Every instance I've found of a user posting about this has reverted back to previous builds, been ignored, told the game developer must fix (which I happen to agree with), etc. I'm not really looking for a fix so much as trying to understand the change that is causing the issue and whether I should keep my eye on the game developer's updates or on the CM11 nightlies, and what to look for. The reason why I have been trying so hard to resolve this, and the reason why I've posted this in the OnePlus forums specifically is because I have one of the OPOs that has very bad touch screen issues and I have been trying to run the latest and greatest fixes for the touchscreen. I am hoping that this community would be less likely to give me the lecture about running "nightly, unstable builds and expecting everything to work". Unfortunately - PAD is the one stupid game that I play on my phone and I'm embarrassed to admit that I've put far too much time into it.
TLDR: I have an embarrassing game addiction, bad touchscreen, and a need to understand things.
Thread was ignored but I figured I'd add more information for any of the others in my situation that may be googling their hearts out, as I have been.
The bug in PAD is present on the official 38R OTA update from OnePlus. I have contacted the game developers again in hopes that they will recognize the issue now that it is present on a stock, manufacturer provided ROM.
thanks for the info. i hope this is resolved quickly... have to resort to tablet for now as im too lazy to revert to 33R just to play puzzle & dragons!
This has occurred on my nexus 5 using an aosp based ROM. However the ROM also has features that cm ROMs tend to have which is why I believe it is affected as well. And just like you, only the Sept builds. I too wish to solve this as I'd like to update my ROM.
I received a response from Gungho and it certainly was not comforting. I think the only way we will see a fix to their terrible DRM checks for later CM11 builds is if people make enough noise.
My Support Request:
My phone is a One+ One running completely stock with their recent C
> M11S OTA update from the manufacturer. PAD will not start due to a \"Downlo
> ading Data\" loop. It repeats the process indefinitely. This was present

Please take some time to bother them about it!

are you still on 38R? if so, want to try having it as a system app (use titanium backup) and see if it'll work?
I've also reverted to 33R
The addiction is too strong on this one
Hope gets fixed soon
I have this issue too! I contacted GungHo and they gave me this n00b answer. I wish I knew this before updating to 38R
In case anyone was wondering, the update to PAD (7.1.2) does not resolve the issue.

Does not work. PAD closes immediately.
Could anybody using stock rom (e.g. 44S) feedback to Gungho? Since CM11S is the stock rom for Oneplus One, Gungho might try to support it......
some people already did the feedback to gungho stating they have the 44S which is the official ROM. They answered the same noobish thing ...
If you are not aware, there's a fix allowing you to play PAD even with a 38R+ version or any other ROM :
get the libc.so from a 33R version (from /system/lib) and copy it over your version from the 44S for example, and PAD will run ... BUT you will lose the sensors like screen rotation ...
I tried 44S and Paranoid Android 4.6 beta 3 and it is the same ... I don't know if it is a bug in the AOSP since PA is not CM based anymore ...
so its still not fixable ? even after all those updates of pad ?
Hello,
A complete fix has been found 3 days ago, you have to get the libc.so from slimsaber.
You can grab it on the oneplus official forum someone posted it here -> forums.oneplus.net/threads/pad.201634/page-3 sorry you have to copy paste :/
Hi,
I found that upgrading my CM11 nightly to CM12 nightly solves this problem, maybe for those using CM 11S it also works. But DON'T USE CMupdater to upgrade, because you also have to upgrade gapps at the same time, so use recovery to flash both CM12 and gapps-lp before reboot.
