l flashed kitkat with Odin and rooted with cf autoroot. Is it safe enough to use Mobile Odin to revert back to 4.1.2?
Yes, you can flash stock 4.1.2 with mobile odin, but you will still have de kitkat bootloader.
In what way does that matter, I mean is there anything I should be aware of?
eta: How do I get the old bootloader back, just in case I need/want it?

good question! KK bootloader just fuked up odin and everything usefulll...so even you flashed back 4.1.2 u wont be able to flash anything else . even the KK (idiotic) version of Samsung Roms....so nothing usefull
i still cant resolve the nonworking wifi issue, nothing works as it should be...
appreciate any advises
I did get the wifi to work by flashing KK with Odin, but wifi as a whole seems a little temperamental. I have not yet returned to JB as I'm a big ol' chicken and don't want to mess a working, albeit rubbish, rom up.

I'm in need of some serious help here guys. Tonight I tried to update my rooted s3 on 4.1.2 to the new update 4.3. I accepted the download and after the download I installed it. My phone booted into the yellow Verizon triangle telling me it noticed I have unauthorized programs on my phone not authorized by Verizon and to turn the phone off and take it into Verizon. I tried to boot into clockwork recovery and it would not let me and booted back to the yellow Verizon triangle.
I have no idea what to do, did I permanently brick my phone or can I get back to 4.1.2 some how? I would greatly appreciate any information pointing in the direction to fix this.
I managed to recover my phone! I pulled the battery and sim card prior to signing up on xda because I read someone having the same issue on a note 2. Once the battery and sim is removed let it set for a half hour then place the sim and battery back into the phone. Once they were back in the phone press the power button ,it should boot right up as it normally would. I'm not saying there isn't more than one way of fixing this issue but this method worked for me and I thought I would share for those who might experience this yellow triangle notification as well. On a side note it did not successfully updated my phone but returned me back to 4.1.2
You need to be 100% stock to take an OTA (unrooted, stock recovery). The easiest way to get to that state is to ODIN a stock factory image. This will delete your internal storage.
Was your bootloader unlocked prior to trying to update to 4.3? I'm assuming so if you were running CWM recovery.
I actually had the same problem and am trying to fix right now. I tried running rootkeeper before the update, but that obviously didn't work. Anyone know where I can get the 4.1.2 image to flash? Also, do i need to do that "Triangle Away"? My custom binary dL says "Yes (4 counts)."

Triangle Away is free for XDA members. Must be stock rooted to work. Won't work on every rom. May have to odin stock, root run Triangle and then Odin Stock again. Remove tar from MF1 zip to Odin. Once on 4.3 there is no return and no unlock. Can run Saferoot to root. Do not try to unlock or flash custom recovery or device will brick.

You sure about that? Seems quite a few people were on 4.1.2 stock + rooted, took the update, and went to 4.3 fine, but lost root.
Quite a few in the main 4.3 thread.

Yes my bootloader is unlocked. I think I'm going to postpone the 4.3 update until I hear better reviews. I have seen posts on here where people are having issues after taking the update. I simply did not know what was going on if I had hard bricked my device or not, luckily I did not and was able to get back to 4.1.2

I updated my wifes Via the OTA and she has had 0 issues. I think most of the issues people are having after the OTA are self inflicted.

just wonderingim trying to get a stock vrbm1 tar but every link I try is down I did have it on a usb but lost it, originally from dark menace if you know of another source would be great ive downloaded a few but md5 doesn't match
Okay, kind of a noob. I have the Samsung Galaxy S3 Verizon. I was on 4.1.2 rooted using Beanstown 106 method, and was running axis rom. It was ok but 4.3 came out & I wanted to try it, since the rom had excellent performance, but a lot of little bugs that were bothering me. I shut the root off in the SU accepted the 4.3 ota update and everything was fine except for when the phone would boot up it showed the samsung logo with an unlock padlock and said custom.. Not a big deal but I liked the 4.3 so wanted to take away the boot unlock icon (just in case for warranty purposes). It was my understanding if I would ODIN back to stock it would go away. Long story short in between trying to odin to stock, Kies back to stock and every other method I can find, my phone is stuck in ODIN/download mode and won't do anything else. I've searched everywhere and cannot figure it out. In odin mode the phone says something like Software upgrade error, use software repair assistant or something like that. Don't know what to try or do, and stuck using a razr until I get my GS3 back. Please help!!!
Didn't accept the OTA, but from what others have posted, it sounds like the correct way to do it is to revert to stock, unroot, relock bootloader and use triangle away to reset counter, then accept the OTA. If you dont use triangle away prior to accepting OTA, you get the unlock icon + custom. Once you accept the OTA, trying to revert to anything else or flashing a custom recovery will result in a hard brick.

Well then I'm hard bricked, because I tried to ODIN back to stock as well as KIES and they both just say fail..
I just fixed my phone with verizon software utility. My guide should be up with the utility sometime tonight. If you can get into bootloader it will flash SCH-I535_I535VRUCML1 I tried to get the files it downloaded but there not odin files or zips.
Hopefully this helps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2586319

Holy **** I can't wait to get home and try this! Hopefully it works, thank you!
Ok so I never messed around with rooting until my phone got the 4.3 update the other night. I decided I hated the update so much that I did the saferoot method, and I'm now rooted.
Only after I did that did I discover that my bootloader is perma-locked and I can't try to unroot or rollback the android version or I'll hardbrick. I can't do roms. Essentially I can't fix what I rooted in order to fix, and trying to enter recovery mode and odin mode lights me up with a verizon warning. So:
1. Just what can I do SAFELY now that I'm rooted? I've already used titanium to uninstall the verizon apps, but I don't know what I'm doing beyond that to remove bloatware/make this thing faster.
2. Will there be a time in the future when I'll be able to totally unlock my phone and escape Verizon's tyranny even though I took the 4.3 OTA? I want to make it look like stock nexus android.
Thanks for any and all help!
1. That's about it. Maybe use Xposed and the Greenify module to hibernate apps that typically drain your battery. Can't do much more besides remove apps on TW 4.3.
2. Possibly or possibly never. Nobody knows if the Knox Bootloader and extra security checks put forth by Verizon will be overcome.

I use Greenify to hibernate apps I sometimes use and titanium backup to freeze apps I never use. I don't uninstall them just in case. It's running great for me, much better than 4.1.2
I know you can't downgrade from 4.3, but you can't unroot either?

go back to this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758 Lots of comments on how to unroot if that is what you want. and give the DEVs some time, there will be a method, there is usually one found after a while. OR stick with what you have for a while, i can make mine look just like my rooted version with little variation, and stock isn't too bad, so far.
be patient grasshopper...
Would I be able to Odin back to 4.1.2 so I can re root, unlock bootloader and flash custom ROM's again? Thanks

No. If you took the 4.3 OTA you are stuck on it. You will hard brick your device if you try to Odin back to 4.1.2. Been mentioned tons of times in numerous threads.

Same situation...I flashed Stock_rooted_4.3 after taking the OTA and my phone said unauthorized software detected, take to Verizon. Luckily I found the original image and it flashed back to totally stock 4.3 build ML1.
Basic root would be fine for now so would you please link me to the method you used if you are also on ML1?
Thanks

OK cool...just wanted to be sure; I am subscribed to that thread. Just gotta get ADB to see the phone. Everything else works via USB in all modes, kinda odd.
Thanks!
So, my phone is running 4.1.2 rooted, and it got an OTA recently. The OTA failed because the bootloader was unlocked.
I thought easy-peasy, just odin flash the locked boot loader and download/apply OTA again, right?
Flashed fine, locked and clean for initial boot. But when it went to install the OTA, same problem happened, the bootloader was miraculously unlocked again, and the OTA failed.
Any ideas on how I can get past this? I really don't mind loosing root, just trying to avoid a complete odin reflash and loosing everything...
I am just curious ... why would you want to update to the OTA 4.3 and forever lock down the bootloader? Once the verizon 4.3 update takes hold, you might be able to root, but (so far) will not be able to load custom roms without bricking the device.

Well your almost right. First off you for sure can root. Second you can install custom roms with safestrap. Its limited to tw roms atm. There have been a hand full of people who upgraded just to use safestrap. I wouldnt recomend it right now because its alittle buggy.

Wife's phone. She doesn't want to mess with it.
I think I figured it out, looks like I had a custom recovery installed. Flashed that to stock and locked bootloader and all is fine now. Running latest and greatest. Just what the missus is looking for...
RedBullet - Ah, I fully understand now I'm having a similar conversation with my misses.
ThePagel - Thanks. One one of my phones was cursed with an accidental OTA 4.3 upgrade. Nice to know something is in the works, I'll dig up that thread and watch it.

I assume if one wants to go the custom ROM route they would simply need to odin flash one of the older stock images and go from there. Doesn't seem like a big problem. Of course > 50% chance I have no idea what I'm talking about...

Yes, just Odin the stock ML1 and after that you should able to OTA upgrade to 4.4kitkat.
Yeah I just did this earlier today. Used Odin to get back to stock 4.3, and then installed the OTA, and it worked fine.
