My HTC ChaCha (~ 2 years old) periodically stops responding to the 4 capacitive soft keys below the touchscreen.
Since rebooting always makes it work correctly, I suspect there's some software glitch. Before I do a factory reset I wanted to see if booting into safe mode might fix this. How does one boot into Safe Mode?
Tried keeping volume down key depressed during a reboot but did not work.
Any other ideas to fix this issue? I've ~280 MB RAM free, 33 MB Internal storage free and 250 MB free on the SD card.
PS. I also tried:
(a) Shutting down. And then holding menu key during start
(b) Shutting down. And then pressing both Volume UP and Volume DOWN keys during the start.

Hi,
After seeing the overclocking thread on this forum, I decided to have a go and installed the tornado power control on my unlocked Vodafone v1415, along with appropriate shortcuts to start it automatically at boot.
All seemed well at first, but after setting the speed at very low (132 MHz) to see if it improved battery life, my phone started automatically rebooting, in a loop. I removed / replaced the battery and rebooted, which stopped it looping, but now I just get the home screen and when I unlock the keylock, the phone completely locks up and turns itself off.
I've tried all permutations of hard reset keys (both soft keys held down and a quck press of the power button, all 3 held together, etc) and even tried to get into the bootloader (camera & power ?), but nothing seems to work - whatever I do, the phone boots as normal and then crashes when it loads the tornado power control.
What I need is the equivalent of windows safe mode, where tornado doesn't get started automatically, because I'm sure that if I could uninstall it, all my problems would be fixed.
Anyone have any ideas ?
thanks

Hi, my friend's Moto G 8 gb isn't working properly, every time he tries to install an app it gives an error such as "Insufficient storage space" http://imgur.com/1HcNKyu
even though there should be plenty of space available http://imgur.com/WAjmIwC
It won't even let him upload screenshots to imgur http://imgur.com/80Ihwnb
He bought it a few months ago, it's been having this problem since shortly after he bought it, it's fully updated and running Android 4.4.4 http://imgur.com/98UAlDF
When trying to install programs, such as the very small DiskUsage app, it gives the insufficient space error even if he's just cleared app caches and uninstalled apps, which should definitely have cleared enough space to fit it.
What can we try to fix this? He'd prefer to avoid doing anything too complicated such as rooting or installing custom ROMs.
Give it a factory reset from the recovery... Go into fast boot (power off button and then press volume down and power button simultaneously for around seven seconds)...then press the volume down button once and then the volume up button to boot into recovery...Then keep both the volume buttons pressed for 20 seconds and, after these 20 seconds, while keeping the volume buttons pressed, tap the power button...you will see an option to wipe data and factory reset... Take a backup of all your data first...
Hello,
I have problem with my S6 (64GB) with Back Button. From yesterady it has been pressing this button continuously . Before that it was like once or twice a day, but I didn't care. Restart is not a solution. I tried to wipe cache memory, but it didn't work as well. The phone is completely undamaged, buttons are clean, 2months old, from mobile operator. First day after purchase I had to repaired it, because it was overheating and they replaced motherboard. Do you know guys some solution?

Thank you.
Have you tried booting into safe mode? That will disable any 3rd party apps that might be causing the problem.
1 Power the device off
2 Press and hold the Power key.
3 When the device vibrates; release the Power key and immediately hold down the Volume Down key
4 Keep pressing the Volume down key until the device boots up completely.
5 If successful, Safe Mode will appear on the device screen in the bottom left corner.
I have exactly the same issue. Is your knox 0x1?
Had that problem, software problem you need to restore the firmware, download your phones software from sammobile.com and flash it to your phone and it should fix the problem.
I got a samsung a10e the back button keeps backing up by itself how can i fix it
Hey everyone,
issue: Nexus 5 always boots into Safe mode
-volume button is stuck pressed but physically it is fine, I even removed the whole button and tried to turn it on, same issue
-when I turn on the device, bootloader appears with cycling options (i.e volume button issue)
-I swapped the whole mother board to another one, problem solved (borrowed from a friend)(gave it back)
-did a factory reset through stock recovery
-bootloader unlocked, TWRP installed, rooted
is there a way to "Force" your phone to boot normally?
or is there a way to disable safe mode?
or is there a way to disable the volume down button itself?
[Update 14 Sep 2017]: found a work around, tapping the volume buttons rapidly (alternating) while boot up, this fixes them temporarily, been 24 hours now with no issues
thanks
I have a Galaxy S6 with a faulty power button.
I took it to a Samsung Repair Centre.
After "diagnosing" the problem (which I had to pay for), I was told that the faulty power button was due to "liquid damage" (it has never been in water everything else works fine).
They said it would cost £180 to repair and would require they replace the whole motherboard.
I refused as I cannot afford that repair and would rather consult a third party shop or purchase a brand new phone.
Unfortunately, the state I received the phone back in unusable.
Before the phone was sent in, it was at least in a state where I could at least use it (providing I kept it charged and did not power it off).
Now its just stuck in a recovery mode => restart => no command (boot loop), and I cannot select an option from the recovery mode screen because the power button does not work.
I planned to flash the stock firmware to try in order to get it out of this loop, and I can get it to boot to download mode as the volume buttons and home button work fine.
However, now when I'm at the cyan warning screen it prompts me for volume up to continue.
I press volume up and nothing happens. I know that these buttons work for a fact as in recovery mode I can navigate up and down.
Any ideas whats going on? or what I should try next?
Videos of the issue
(Tinfoil theory: Did they purposefully lock down download mode after inspecting it?)
If you have time, continuously keep pressing volume up and power until it gets you into Odin. Best of luck.
We're on slightly different devices, but mine has the same defect. The power button failed overnight, it worked to start the device but afterwards, the power button became stuck in the pressed state and I couldn't lock the device (not mechanically, it is still clicky). The volume down button still worked (I don't have to hold power to force a restart because it's stuck in the pressed state), I wanted to take a look at the knox status in the download mode, it didn't respond to volume up, this means that it's dependent on not having power pressed. I somehow got the restart confirmation to show with the power button, twice, so it's not completely defective. The volume down button cycled through being stuck and non-clicky, working normally, and being stuck while being mostly clicky, like the power button, though it doesn't seem to be stuck in the pressed state. It's likely because I kept pushing Volume Down for hours in a terminal emulator. Today, it takes 5 mins of torturing Volume Down to restart the device. Eventually, it might fail completely. This device seems to be able to ignore volume up / down if those buttons are stuck and work almost completely normally.
