[Q] Galaxy s2 update - General Questions and Answers

Hi guys i'm new to xda but i still have this gut wrenching question,
you i have a galaxy s2 and it still runs on android 2.3.4 gingerbread and i have this update via phone update or OTA(over the air) update which is in Setting> about phone> system updates ETC. and its about 234+mb of data, i'm from Philippines by the way and i don't know if this ics update is 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 because i have been reading alot of forums and even if they 1 year older or 2 year old(doesn't matter) there alot of comments about bug and the update SUCKS sometimes the battery would be drained in a short amount of time or the camera would not be working or the simcard does not detect.
Please Help and i know i should update VIA ODIN in PC but d don't know what my S2 is it international or Southeast asia etc. and i have seen in viotutorials.com and the youtube channel they have alot of vid regarding the update of the galaxy s2 and i'm just confused why so many vids and each had different files and some minor process or steps...
any answer would much be appreciated

My carrier in Ireland does not know either. Can I Flash any of the above without rooting. Thank you in advance

[Q] Different region releases of "official" Samsung Galaxy S2 ICS firmware?

What are the differences between the different regional versions of ICS? Is it just languages and bloat-ware, or is there more to it than that?
You know, like modem and phone might operate with different tel-co and country specific standards????
I am in Australia but have the stock ROM of the latest international version ICS LPQ flashed to my SGS2 i9100 though Odin.
I was just wanting to know if there was any advantage of flashing the Australian version of ICS LPQ when it is finally released here. (however long that will take?)
I recon my tel-co (Telstra AKA: Hellstra) will take 3-6 months if the last GB update was anything to go by. hehe.
I'm sure there are plenty of others with similar questions.
Appreciate an anwer please, as I have been trawling the forums and can't find anything.
Cheers

ICS Android version on Samsung Galaxy S2 !!

Anybody can help ?!!
My Samsung Galaxy S2 came with a 4.0.3 Android version (Ice Cream Sandwich) .. Although it's the newest version, but I feel that it's not compatible with my phone ! It causes many problems such as force closes on FB application, Whatsapp, turns off suddenly, etc .. In many occasions, I had a black screen while being in a certain application then getting a message of "This application is not responding" , then goes out of it !
I know many people who got the S2, but none of them had it with the 4.0.3 version .. All of them had it with the Gingerbread version which seemed to be very stable and lovely ! Every one got surprised when I told him that I'm having such problems, knowing that I got my new phone since 2 weeks only !!
Moreover, when I go to "About Phone" feature, then to Android Version, Baseband version & Kernel version and these stuff .. they are all "off" and not enlightened as the situation is in the Gingerbread version !!
What's the real problem ? Is my phone rooted or what ? Please Help !
Its most likely rotted
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
download root checker to quickly see if you're rooted or not. If you are, flash over the stock rom. If your not, find the guide to root your phone and then when thats complete, flash over the stock rom.
You write it's a new phone only two weeks old. Did you buy it in a store, then go back and make them repair it on warrenty. Just in case it's a defective motherboard or so. If you bought it privatly, you probably have to do as PakAttack1994 says, check if it's rooted, and flash another ROM, and you schould be home clean

Help please? :)

Hi,
I have a Samsung Galaxy SII LTE HD, and I know this is going to sound fairly of noob-ish, but I'm new to Android.
I have two questions.
1. I'm with Bell Mobility and the release date for ICS was supposed to be this month, and I've been plugging and unplugging my phone into the computer like a madwoman, and Kies is still saying that my 2.3.6. is the latest firmware. Am I having a problem with Kies?
2. I'd prefer not to wait for ICS any longer than I already have, is there anyone who can help me with a guide to flashing a custom ROM and acquiring ICS that way?

Official U.S. ICS ROM released yet?

As the title says, just wondering if the official US rom has been released yet OTA or otherwise. I think (pretty sure) I'm running the U.K. version right now and I only have 1 minor problem which is the reminder to setup software updates doesn't work. Also, I'm thinking about giving this tablet to my GF for Christmas and getting the Galaxy Tab 7.7 for myself for the better screen.
Thanks for the help!
Bump?
If you're asking if Samsung issued an upgrade to ICS for the 7.0 Plus in the US, the answer is yes. AFAIK, it had to be installed using Kies.
I can confirm this, I just updated my tab yesterday via kies and it's now in ICS 4.04
OK cool. I'll flash back to stock and do an upgrade to the official
On a side note, I also followed the root instructions under the CWM 6.0 thread in development and it still works :good:
