OK, with a soak test coming, I have a few questions:
-Is optimized dalvik compatible with our RAZR HDs/HD maxxes?
-Is it worth it? Any of you guru's using it/recommending it?
-Would it interfere with any ota?
-Electrons: wave or particle?
That's all, unless an answer triggers another question. Oh, no ART talk, loving the idea behind it, waiting for stability, and I am an xposed user.

I have the original EVO. I have it rooted for wireless tethering. It works great. The problems is, Onlive has a kick butt new app that only works with Gingerbread (Android 2.3) and I, for obvious reasons, haven't installed any firmware updates from Sprint so I am still on 2.2. I've never cared before because it's always done what I wanted. I have 2 questions.
1) Can I install a new rom without it being destructive? Meaning it can upgrade. Such as a newer HTC update without wiping out my data.
2) What version should I get? The proper combination of stability and features (backward compatibility should be good I assume). I know there are some kick butt non-HTC roms that greatly improve battery and performance. Those are fine if they are non-destructive or, if HTC upgrade is destructive, then who cares right? (Except I do love HTCs voicemail app)
Thank you in advance everyone.

Once you flash a custom rom you lose OTA updates.
I'm not a dev at all, but does anyone know if it would be possible to backport the SE emulation part of 4.4 into one of the old TW roms?
Maybe its a stupid idea, but I kinda like the extra functionality of the TW roms. and I would like a wallet that just worked after a wipe or reflash.
Any thoughts?
Hey guys, like most of you are, i'm very disapointed because sony dropped development for our phone... However i dont
have the resources to buy a new one since i lost 200 euros (not dollars) on this brick.
I like its design and for me this could be the best android phone HOWEVER, it's crappy software is destroying everything.
I have tried custom roms, i have even built my own with my own tweaks and i have come to the conclusion that the best
rom cooking is stock on everything, rooted, with tweaked gps.conf and adfree hosts file. Yep simple with no de odexing or zipaliging
as i am lazy p)
Now the problem is, i dont know what firmware should i install... Every version as its bugs so i would like to know if you xperia l veterans know
the best build.
Im looking for snappyness: best ram management, and speed.
The less bugs the better but give priority to snappiness...
I would also like a good camera but i think every build sucks on that...
I hope you guys can help...
thanks

I believe the latest version is always the best. It comes with some bug fixes (not all though, but something is better than nothing). Sony makes some improvements with the feedback they get and thus tries to remove those bugs. Take camera for example, the latest version has far better camera than some previous versions.
So I think the latest version with root and xposed framework is the best.
Are you sure? Cause i heard somewhere that this update has worst ram management thats why i talked about it in the thread...

See every rom has its pros and cons. I am a normal user and thus don't find the ram management to be poor. However, it might be poor, but the camera is better than previous one. So depends on the user as well.
hey guys i wanted to request a lolipop rom runs on dalvik
why don't we have a port of this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2762336
From that page:
Port Features: On 4.4.4 ports only!! 5.0.1 ports are pure stock with no tweaks, other than those that you do yourself
Lollipop doesn't use Dalvik--it's ART only.
In the post it says "On 4.4.4 ports only!! 5.0.1 ports are pure stock with no tweaks, other than those that you do yourself".... They haven't magically made a lollipop ROM that uses Dalvik rather than ART

Lollipop is ART
You want dalvik, then you will need to go back to KitKat
Is your Xposed Framework really that important? I think not.
Why would you want a new rom running on an old runtime

For some people it is. I for one would much rather have 4.4.4 with Xposed than Lollipop. I think Lollipop sucks, tbqh. It's buggy as hell, and visually it looks like it was designed to appeal to soccer moms and teenage girls. KitKat's performance is great on all three of my devices (2014 Moto X, N5, 2013 N7), and with Xposed it's perfect. It'll be a long time before I update to Lollipop, and it'll likely only be when I buy a new phone that ships with it.

I thought the same way.
But after a week of using Lolli i didn't even care about Xposed anymore.
Sure, there are times i will get a snapchat pic or vid i wish was automatically saved, but oh well...
And i noticed a HUGE performance jump going to ART.
Apps that would hang on loading in KK, boot up with no issues in ART.

I have a lollipop ROM as a secondary on my N5 so I've used it quite a bit. I haven't noticed any huge performance jump that is compelling me to switch. Everything is already fast as hell on KitKat, so some apps opening 10 milliseconds faster really isn't anything to write home about.

even i can feel some performance improvement on lollipop ( yah it has some minor bugs but which new rom don't ? and they will be fixed.. i'm sure when n5 shipped with KK it also has some minor bugs otherwise they don't need to go 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 )
now it's upon personal like that you want KK or Lollipop.
anyway this discussion in this thread is completely off-topic...answer of OP was given in 2nd post itself so it's not needed to go delvik-ART-Xposed controversy
No improvement on preformance it lags "lrx22c"

Hi, I'm looking for a stable ROM, there are tons of ROMs out there based on kitkat 4.4.x and the new Lolipop. I've had a look at some ROM's such as Euphoria and Chroma, I haven't actually flashed them yet as I'm currently running CM11 M11. But unfortunately I have some issues with Greenify and the picture/video quality is bad compared to e.g. stock Kitkat 4.4.4 with HDR+.
If there's a camera module with HDR and better picture quality I don't mind flashing this, as CM11 has more features than I use. But if there's no module than my question is what ROM would you guys recommend?
It has to have/be;
-Stable
-Good GSM/GPS Signal
-Good Battery Life, CM11 running on ART during night in idle only takes arond 2% battery so thats around 8-10h. The battery lasts me around 2-3 days on average, last time I managed to get just over 4 days.
-Good Camera, preferably with HDR+
-Simple, I'm looking for a ROM which is simple and quick/lightweight.
I'm not a fan of lolipop thats why I'm still running CM11 and not CM12, but I'll just use Nova Launcher and get some themes for it to make it look more appearing.
You should be able to flash the google camera addon from pa gapps, if you find it.
As you might know we cannot be judges of 'best' ROMs on XDA (or make competitive comparisons of ROMs to a certain extent e.t.c.), so personally I'm afraid I cannot help you.
If you are really in demand of an answer for this, then try one of the not heavily modified AOSP ROMs, which should do the job on your desired criteria with regards to the choices.
My own personal picks would be Terminus & RastaPop because I have gotten used to the clean work done by the devs, and source code is awesome - however that is my choice and the 'best' ROM for you is only for you to decide for yourself.
Please also use the Q&A section as necessary.

I've flashed the gapps provided by CM for the CM11 ROM and I have installed the Google Camera from the PA. But the HDR option is missing from the menu and the picture quality compared to stock 4.4.4 or 5.0.1 is worse and not as sharp. I've tried to search for a solution to this and some people seem to flash the camera module from Motorolla, but even though some people managed to get the HDR, the camera just crashes once you try to select it or that oprion is just simply missing.

Tbh IMHO there's no best ROM, well that's my experiance over the years with different phones. You can have a ROM which suits most of your needs, but it might not do the same for another person that's why we have a great choice of great ROM's to pick from. It's the same with cars, you can't just say that one car is the best. An example would be a performance car which does 80-90mpg with a better sunspension than a e.g. Bentley. That's impossible, you can't have everything so you go for the car whicch ticks most of the boxes on your criteria list. That's why I listed what things I'm looking for from the ROM, I'm not asking for the best ROM, not sure where you got the idea from?
P.s. Thanks for the request, I wasn't sure were to post this. It was either Q&A or General.
Edit:
Is the newer lolipop stabler than 4.4.4? I'm not a fan of lolipop as it looks like a bad copy of iOS IMHO and the amount of issues I had with the early versions 5.0-5.0.2 put me off a bit. But thankfully android is a very customizable system and so I can make lolipop look decent, so not that much of a problem.
Stock..?

I was thinking of running 4.4.4 Kitkat stock with Xposed, but I've read that people were having prolems running Xposed with ART...

Dalvik is nonexistent in Lollipop.
Due to changes in ART Xposed is RIP in 5.1, but 3.0 alpha 1 & 2 work on 5.0.X

I didn't know that, thanks for the info. Is there an alternative to Xposed on Lolipop 5.1 R3?
Tbh, I still haven't flashed anything. I'm thinking of just flashing stock 5.1 R3, but I'm still seeing numbers of threads about the problems with lolipop.
So ultimately what ROM would you guys recommend keeping in mind; stability, good battery life, good signal/gps and decent camera with HDR? I'm not asking for the best one, just for a ROM that ticks those boxes and is not overdone.
I can see quite a few issues with the elementalx that have been appearing for the past couple days, the camera on CM11 sucks especially since there's no HDR option.
