CM11 Questions - HTC One S

Just moved over to this last week and I had a couple questions.
I really liked the feature from sense camera to take a picture while shooting video. Supposedly google's camera does this for some phones. But I can't seem to get it to work for CM11 HTC One S. Anyone have a work around for that? Or has anyone got that to work?
It also doesn't have FM radio anymore. What does everyone else use for FM radio if they even use it? I saw the Spirit fm radio in play store. Has anyone had any success in getting that to work on this ROM?
Lastly, since there's no wifi-calling in it either, what do you guys use for a replacement for that? I saw google just took down 3rd party tie ins to voice, so maybe just try out google voice?
Thanks for any help. Much appreciated.

Maybe you can try some of the newer sense ROMs? Why not try Maximus HD? It's supposed to be as bug free as possible.

Good camera on $Droids$, Deviant Xone Kk 4.4.4 .

Yea, I might switch to one of the sense ROMs. Getting kind of excited about bilal's new sense 6 rom. Thanks for the ROM suggestions.

Right now I am running CandyKat. Although it is not sense based, it's a great ROM!!!! Fast and smooth. Running version 1.5.0.

Best application for your camera

Hello everyone, I wanted to ask you experts what the best application for an alternative camera that records video in 1080p
I use ARHD 4.1.3 with the Amaze camera. It's awesome, but keep in mind that it only works with Sense 3.5 and the stock Android 2.3.5 kernel. Others use the camera mod by ErosizeD or the MIUI camera. Try them all out and see which one you like best.
Yep, Amaze camera is the way to go!
The problem is that I do not think so CyanogenMod is compatible

Correct. As I said in my post above, the Amaze camera only works with Sense 3.5 ROMs and you have to use the stock Android 2.3.5 kernel. Most of the 3.5 ROMs come with a different kernel than stock, so download and flash the proper one after flashing the ROM. There are quite a few Sense 3.5 ROMs out there, so flash away and see what you like. Just remember to ALWAYS DO A BACKUP BEFORE YOU FLASH ANYTHING.

Keep throwing suggestions out there guys. This guy wants something workable that will work on CM7. Let's stop talking about how great the Amaze camera is and how he should stick to Sense because of it, and give him a real suggestion.
Just tried out a bunch of the cameras off the market. Seems like I'm gonna be stuck on Sense for a while lol. Viginette, Camera 360 left an impression, the others were horrible.

First things first. Never once did I say anything even close to "he should stick to Sense because of the Amaze camera." Don't put words in my mouth. He seemed a bit confused about the fact that it only works with Sense, hence why I clarified further.
Second, I mentioned that both ErosizeD and MIUI have cameras if you would have read more carefully. MIUI camera works on CM7, and there is a version of ErosizeD's mod in the works for AOSP ROMs.
Last I checked, those are both "real suggestions."
Just because you don't use Sense, it doesn't mean that nobody does. While you may run CM7 exclusively, other people may be willing to try out different ROMs, including Sense ROMs. Personally, I'm a CyanogenMod guy. I have been since my G1. I'm simply trying out different ROMs and stuff until a stable build is released. The Amaze camera is fantastic. I would even say it's worth flashing a Sense 3.5 ROM to see for yourself.
To the OP: These 3 options are pretty much the only ones out there right now that I know of. If you want more information, search the forums and see what you can come up with.

Looking for a Rom suggestion

Hey there. I'm looking for a suggestion on a rom. I know, these have gotta be really annoying. I have stock 2.3.4 and I am happy with it, with the exception that I'm stuck with sense 2.1 and lack much in the way of customization. Plus I can't get rid of the bloatware. So I'd like to use a custom rom. Only catch is that I've become nearly dependent on swype. I also periodically use the wireless tether feature.
As I hear that cyanogenmod 7.1 requires a downloaded swype version that doesn't work well, can anyone make any suggestions for me? I'd be much obliged.
Thanks!
Try Virtuous Unity and download swype, it works fine

just wondering... but if you know these threads are annoying, then why'd you post it??
anyway...
Sense ROM: Virtuous Unity/Affinity or RCMix
MIUI: TDJ's DarkSide
AOSP: ICS by feb beta
AOSP GINGERBREAD: CM7

Because knowing they are annoying doesn't answer my question. While rom recommendations are annoying, I'm specifically curious about swype and tethering. It's good to know that the downloadable swype works good enough to use. Do you happen to know if Virtuous Unity works with the front-facing camera?
Thanks for catering to my annoying questions.

Well, Weapon Rom (by Whitehawkx) seems nice. I don't think that it has Swype, but it makes up with all of its capabilaties. Try it out and see if you like it!

yes, Virtuous Unity has working ffc.
it's Virtuous Affinity, Sense 3.5, that has an upside down ffc.
You would have to install Swype separately, just like you would any app. Roms don't have it included because it's a paid app, though it does come bundled with most phones on the stock rom. Devs here do not include it so as to avoid copyright issues. Most roms have the wireless tether as well. Since you like sense I suggest Virtuous Doubleshot. The rom is fast and smooth, and it's based on the mt4g slide stock rom. I'm sure you could find Swype if you looked around.
get swype from here http://beta.swype.com/android/create/
works on every rom I use
I used Royal Panache 1.3 for a month. Great rom with Sense.
I'm using CM7 now because I like the more features. It's like got a sense theme
I would suggest, when trying out ROMs, to try bootmanager as it lets you test out roms without restoring.
Once you get familiar with ROMs, help out feby with ICS development for Glacier!
I'm using Dark_Sys (after only using the original galnet release back in december).
Dark_Sys is MIUI based and gives a LOT of customization. Plus with the kernel, you can just put the smartassv2 governer and get really good battery life. One thing to consider as well, like mentioned in here, just install Swype separately.
I'm using the Swype beta and it's fine. If in the future there is an issue with swype, there are alternatives that are relatively successful. GoKeyboard has a similar system (not as good as swype, but functions similarly).
The best recommendation is to see what features you want. MIUI requires you to make folder as there is no app drawer, but once you get over that, it's great. I have a custom boot animation, good skins, good ringtones, and the lock screen can control pandora. Super nice. The only glitch I've seen so far is I can't use the mic on my stock headset. Bluetooth works fine though.

Miui camcorder problem... help wanted

Hey guys, first off I want to apologize if this is wrong area for this or if this has already been posted, but yes I have looked and haven't found anything about it.... so I have a HTC One S running the latest MIUI.... the problem is, I go to the default camera, switch it over to video recording, and it'll take the video just fine.... problem is when you go to play it or even preview it, it has a ton of lines through it, it's blurry, you see triple of everything, etc....same thing if you plug it into computer and play the vid.n help is greatly appreciated guys!
Are you on the cm9 base or the Sense base? I know the cm9 one was having camera/camcorder problems.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
I believe CM9 base? I ran cm9 before and I froze the HTC sense **** lol. Not positive though, I can check if needed but I'll need to know how xD I'm still a little new to messing with Android.
There is no fix for this yet on roms that are not sense based, due to HTC using a special undocumented imaging chip for the camera in one S. If/when it is fixed I guess it'll come to miui quick.

I want a stock AOSP ICS ROM (no extras, just straight up google)

Please, please, please, Ive looked everywhere, I really want help finding a stock ICS ROM for the HTC One S. I dont want any of these fancy ROMS that are out there, they are cool and all, but its really not what Im looking for. I really want the stock, non-modified, google approved, google distributed, AOSP version of ICS on my phone. Does anybody know where I can find a stock non-modified ICS ROM for the One S?
Thanks!
Not going to happen yet.
Should of got a gnex
just use CM9, the extras are there but dont have be used. and its nothing "fancy" as you say, the extras are actually useful and nice to have.
My question is..... why wouldn't you use jellybean

I have a Nexus S (T-mo) with stock Android and I love it, buts its 3G and I like the Wi-Fi Calling on the One S (live out of cell phone coverage so it really helps).
CM9/10 or AOKP is as close (quite close) as you'll get ATM. There was some mention of evervolv in dev section a while ago but dunno what happened with that. Google will never approve or distribute AOSP other than as source apart from for the Nexuses of this world I guess, its up to OEMs and private developers to being it to devices.

I'll answear what I say in this cases, why the hell have you bought and HTC device if you don't want sense?? Buy the nexus, when you purchase and HTC you pay for the software as well not just for the hardware...

WiFi calling is a T-mobile thing. You'll loose that feature when using AOSP ROM.
(Unless you can find a way to port it) My Nexus One is running CM7 but was lucky to have the Wifi calling app ported by some dev.

Working on it; currently syncing the aosp repo.

Its been a while, best ROM for the HTC ONE S

Its been a while since I have been here, good to see the unrooting process is easy now. Ive had the HTC ONE S for about 2 months now and its ok, but what irrates me is the Tmobile crap that they always load on the phone and the phone seems to reboot sometimes. I switched over to a pre-paid plan unlimited talk, text and 4GB to 100mb and I swear that my Tmobile service is now worse than before. I use that 4GB to 100MB in 2 days, but I dont really use my internet that much and use only 3 core apps Twitter, Foursqaure and gmail.
What i am looking for in a rom is less Tmobile junk, ability to use my WIFI spot or teether the phone to my laptop without getting the upsale message from Tmobile saying I need to buy the feature.
Also a improvement in signal and internet would be nice from the new rom, i am supposed to be in a area where I should be getting excellent coverage and I am not, even emailed Tforce and of course that was useless, since they say its the sim card, or maybe reboot the phone and the finale say is " we can guarantee service" yet those commericals claim that lol
If you want Wifi calling, then your options are not a lot.
Trickdroid 6.2 is one of the popular roms that is based on T-Mob. Axiom S is getting good momentum atm and the devs are very active (latest OTA yesterday) and it also supports wifi calling. Axiom S-Less is the version without Sense launcher if you prefer an AOSP feel to the phone.
I think this is about it if you want Wifi calling (someone step in if I forgot something). If you didn't care about that, then it's a different story! Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1789812
As for better signal and internet, that is largely the responsibility of the radio not ROMs. If your hboot is less than 1.13 you could flash the latest EU radio. TMOB users have reported better signal overall. Of course if your hboot version is 1.13 and you still want to upgrade the radio, you could but you'd have to go a lengthier route (even riskier).
If you're interested in WiFi tethering check out WiFi Tether for root users, always works for me.
As for roms, Axiom S is by far the best.

I'm another vote for TrickDroid - I've been using it and it's incredible. It's also finalized now, so no more bugs.
Trickdroid for sure. It won't have Wifi calling since it's based off the international rom, but it's the cleanest, fastest, and best on battery.
Is Trickdroid still the best one?
A matter of opinion. I say No, Im sure someone else will say Yes.

Well, I need one that's extremely stable since it's for my brother who's not home enough for me to troubleshoot any issues that might arise. What would you recommend?

Well I use Dark Jelly CM10, and its been rock solid for me. Everything works just fine.
If you like aosp style, liquid smooth by droyd is the best! That man rocks!!!
Hi guys!
Some really good roms around here; Trickdroid is a very cool sense based rom. The only thing i like about sense roms is the camera app anyway. I've always found aosp / aokp / cm faster. If you'd like to test some of them, LiquidSmooth is a very cool and fast cm-like rom and there's a port by Droyd in the dev forum. There's an unofficial aokp around too, which works pretty well.
I think the best thing to do is try someof them and keep the one you like the best!
cya!
Personally I think best ROM threads shouldn't be allowed. Just a matter of personal preference, on many device sub-forums they are banned anyway
Agreed "best rom" is maybe not the best way to go. I'd personally like to see a checklist of all the things that work/don't work/kinda work. Kind of like a compare feature like an online store has, so you could see exactly what you're getting in to. I've suggested this to XDA, but it probably got buried in all the other requests they get.
