Looking for a Rom suggestion - myTouch 4G General

Hey there. I'm looking for a suggestion on a rom. I know, these have gotta be really annoying. I have stock 2.3.4 and I am happy with it, with the exception that I'm stuck with sense 2.1 and lack much in the way of customization. Plus I can't get rid of the bloatware. So I'd like to use a custom rom. Only catch is that I've become nearly dependent on swype. I also periodically use the wireless tether feature.
As I hear that cyanogenmod 7.1 requires a downloaded swype version that doesn't work well, can anyone make any suggestions for me? I'd be much obliged.
Thanks!

Try Virtuous Unity and download swype, it works fine

just wondering... but if you know these threads are annoying, then why'd you post it??
anyway...
Sense ROM: Virtuous Unity/Affinity or RCMix
MIUI: TDJ's DarkSide
AOSP: ICS by feb beta
AOSP GINGERBREAD: CM7

Because knowing they are annoying doesn't answer my question. While rom recommendations are annoying, I'm specifically curious about swype and tethering. It's good to know that the downloadable swype works good enough to use. Do you happen to know if Virtuous Unity works with the front-facing camera?
Thanks for catering to my annoying questions.

Well, Weapon Rom (by Whitehawkx) seems nice. I don't think that it has Swype, but it makes up with all of its capabilaties. Try it out and see if you like it!

yes, Virtuous Unity has working ffc.
it's Virtuous Affinity, Sense 3.5, that has an upside down ffc.

You would have to install Swype separately, just like you would any app. Roms don't have it included because it's a paid app, though it does come bundled with most phones on the stock rom. Devs here do not include it so as to avoid copyright issues. Most roms have the wireless tether as well. Since you like sense I suggest Virtuous Doubleshot. The rom is fast and smooth, and it's based on the mt4g slide stock rom. I'm sure you could find Swype if you looked around.

get swype from here http://beta.swype.com/android/create/
works on every rom I use

I used Royal Panache 1.3 for a month. Great rom with Sense.
I'm using CM7 now because I like the more features. It's like got a sense theme
I would suggest, when trying out ROMs, to try bootmanager as it lets you test out roms without restoring.
Once you get familiar with ROMs, help out feby with ICS development for Glacier!

I'm using Dark_Sys (after only using the original galnet release back in december).
Dark_Sys is MIUI based and gives a LOT of customization. Plus with the kernel, you can just put the smartassv2 governer and get really good battery life. One thing to consider as well, like mentioned in here, just install Swype separately.
I'm using the Swype beta and it's fine. If in the future there is an issue with swype, there are alternatives that are relatively successful. GoKeyboard has a similar system (not as good as swype, but functions similarly).
The best recommendation is to see what features you want. MIUI requires you to make folder as there is no app drawer, but once you get over that, it's great. I have a custom boot animation, good skins, good ringtones, and the lock screen can control pandora. Super nice. The only glitch I've seen so far is I can't use the mic on my stock headset. Bluetooth works fine though.

Feedback Needed From The Thunderbolt Community

If you recently purchased a Thunderbolt ....
You may be in the same boat as me, looking at rooting. Everyone is talking about gingerbread coming to our phones. I haven't seen an OTA as of yet, but it has leaked. located here->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1225752
Now,
I know that you can root very easy here->
http://revolutionary.io/
and I would play close attention to this video as it provides detailed instructions ->
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UK_CiB2SYk
**WAIT**
Before you dive in, here comes my question.
If you have done your research, there are alot and I mean ALOT of roms to flash for the thunderbolt.
I would like some feedback as to what rom you have flashed.
This will help anyone new to the thunderbolt party as well as myself.
I have yet to make a decision on rooting or waiting.
Your feedback below please.
Thank you all in advance
And as ALWAYS,
Thank you to all the developers who are working there butts off !
I tried out team bamf first, but then they jumped ship to their own forum. So then droidtheory started releasing roms and jumped to him and haven't looked back.
He has a sense and aosp (cm7) version and also dhacker and xpack have released their own versions based off of droidtheory's work.
xpack's senseless rom is very nice. Has the sense base so gps and nfl network work right out of the gate, but no sense (adw launcher instead) so its fast and smooth.

You can't go wrong with DroidTh3orys ROMS.
Root. Now. That way you can make your choice when/if GB actually comes. You can always go back to stock unrooted. You may not be able to root with the new OTA.
Roms? Like many things they are a personal choice that no one can make for you. Having flashed them all, I can tell you they have improved dramatically since I got my bolt in May. If you choose to root, do yourself a favor and try several. You will find the Rom that suits your taste and needs.

100% agree with this guy.
Us leaving XDA doesn't change anything about the quality of our roms. Fact is, many of our innovations end up in other roms anyway (ask ihtfp69 and erishasnobattery).
You can find us at teambamf.net, or rootzwiki.com.
There are many roms to choose from out there. Try them all, then decide.
Thank you all for your feedback. I made sure to click the Thank You buttons on all of your comments.
Once again thanks for the quick response. will be flashing later on today.
Im hoping this post may help some new Thunderbolt owners.

Multiple reasons, first and foremost my phone behaved the best with ShiftAO5P. I had a very smooth running phone and an amazing battery life with all the bells and whistles turned on. I went from 4 am in the morning to almost 6 in the evening without a charge. I am a moderate to heavy user, my battery does not last that long EVER.

I've been running dasBamf Roms for a month now and love them. I am currently on UberBamf PR3. every Tbolt is different, so experiment and see what works best for YOU. After you install each ROM, make a back up of it. That way, if you install one, that you don't like, you can revert.
I like a fast, customizable ROM without all the Sense bloat so I use Liquid Thundersense. I've only had this phone for 5 days so I really have no other Thunderbolt ROM to compare it to (I ran Gingeritis for a couple hours and the stock ROM only long enough to download Gingeritis to the device; I just hate Sense lol). As far as it goes though I've owned five Android devices total and have rooted and ran custom ROMs on all of them. Only way to go IMHO.

New to rooted inspire

Hey all,
This is my first rooted HTC phone (owned two others that weren't rooted) and had some general questions for all those who are rooted.
There seems to be a good number of roms out there and I'm not sure what a lot of the features each rom does, so the question I have is, what rom doesn't really overclock the phone and gives a nice stock functionality that is stable? I'm currently running the synergy rom but kinda looking to go elsewhere. I do apologize if this is a repost, again a new guy here to both the xda forums and rooted phones. Thanks for any help!
Its all about what you want outta ur rom, just gotta do ur research. I'm currently running CM7, and I must say Its stable.
I've been reading and reading and seems I just can't make sense of a lot of what each rom does..I honestly just want a pretty stock rom without all the bloatware that doesn't overclock the processor too much..thanks though for the quick reply!
You say CM7 eh? What do you like most about it?
I tend to shamelessly plug my own rom, so you could check it out.

To be honest i really like the CoreDroid Rom. It is gonna be based on your preference though. I went through about four roms before I decided CD was the one.
If you wanna keep it stock (Im assuming you want Sense) then I would go with Android Revolution HD ROM. It has Sense 3.0 which has some beautiful widgets and pretty effects, runs incredibly SMOOTH and is VERY VERY stable and fast. You can overclock with it but if you prefer keeping it at stock speed you can do that also. Bloatware is also removed and there a bunch of performance tweaks under the hood also.
Go with 5.2.6 which can be found on their website. 6.1.0 was just released but its still a little buggy so I would wait a month or so and see if Mike comes out with an update to fix the issues people are having. I use 5.2.6 and its, hands down, the best ROM I've used.
I would definitely recommend the same Revolution ROM that Matt has recommended.
....Matt, did you ever try running a benchmark test on Revolution HD 6.1? I seem to be getting a 1500 benchmark score, but with version 5.2.6, i was getting 2000.... Seems kind of odd to me that it would regress in performance. When I overclocked 6.1 to 1.2ghz, i still only got 1800 but the phone was noticeably snappier.
I am absolutely loving the new Revolution HD 6.1.0, It has changed my Inspire into a gorgeous model of phone epicness.
I'm pretty much a noob too and wanted the same stock feel like you. I'm using ClearDroid with no issues. and with the newst 1.2.2 version my GPS seems to be working better than ever. good luck
I have literally tried every Rom that you could use for Inspire. If you want stock I would recommend either cleardroid, pirateghost, or Inspirephacopida. They are all based on stock look and perform about the same as stock if not better. If you want sense 3.0 features then I agree Android revolution is the most stable. If you like themes and eye candy then coredroid would be the one. Again its really preference. Just try some out, you will know pretty quick what your willing to sacrifice and what you don't. I do recommend giving an aosp Rom a go just to see whether or not you like it. I would probably use an aosp Rom if it had the sense camera functionality.

I to am new to root but I am also new to Android. I thought I wanted a stock ROM also until I got ahold of MIUI ROM. It has a ton of themes and you can download widgets from the market. So like others have said play around until you find what you like!

Sooooo happy I pulled the trigger and rooted my phone...thanks guys for the input!!

[Q] Best ROM for the MT.

I'm coming from LG Revolution land and my girlfriend has the MT. She wants her phone to be like mine and be able to tether, get rid of the dumb VM boot animation (and the power off animation if possible), and have a different theme more like mine which is kindof like GB but at the same time completely different. Any help would be awesome.
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me.
Also, I'm a major fan of the thanks button and I hit it everytime someone helps me out.
Let's see...
PunkROM has a couple extra themed apps and in some respects looks more like Gingerbread and sometimes a little different; it's also been out longer than mine.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262589
I built Black Lightning off Gingerbread (and PunkROM!) as a base, and integrated the safest and most stable-looking mods. So it's minimal, but theoretically powerful too if it needs to be.

For a minute miui was the best but now that the beta cm7 are fully functional and butter smooth I am finding myself less inclined to flash and that is amazing! Ruined my Samsung captivate while I was still learning, be very careful going back to froyo roms from gingerbread on that one. Darkys killed it! My Triumph however seems unbrickable and is overclocked and stable. The stock rom was a joke and I got rid of that clumsy bastard the third day. Thanx to all the devs for working hard and kikin ass!

In CM7 - You don't--at this time anyways--unless you don't mind certain things not working since the only kernel is old and outdated at this time or unless you build your own OC kernel for CM7.
There's a couple of OC kernels available for FROYO roms atm. Just check the Dev section.

CM7 or MIUI are good ROMs, now they have worked out most of the bugs for this phone besides HDMI and something with camera mirror.
I switched over from the Optimus V and I have a gtablet, im really pleased by CM7 on this phone. I haven't had any problems at all, and the battery life with the last two releases on CM7 is great.
I will try the MIUI ROM as well though, I just chose CM7 because I have had prior experience with it.
I've never had any problems with my phone on the stock-ish ROM, but then again even on my desktop Skype appears to be mirrored (although the other side is okay)... from what I've heard, this is the way desktop Skype works.

I believe the HDMI and Mirroring problem are the custom ROM bugs, but I didn't stay on stock ROM longer then one day to find out how it was.
I am used to rooting and custom ROM's now, for me it's interesting to try different things out customizing my phone.
Edit: sorry for the confusion if I implied that HDMI and Mirroring on the camera are stock ROM bugs.
I'm refusing to switch to the Gingerbread Cyanogen mod simply because it doesn't have hdmi output. Even though I can't use the HDMI output anyway. There's probably a pill to alleviate that.

I'm refusing until you can use wifi with bluetooth, and the niggling audio bugs I keep reading about go away.
I hear that the gingerbread development is winding down now, so we may just be stuck with current cm7 and miui for a while...without fixes.
If I could just figure out what is killing battery so much faster than my optimus V, I'd be happy....

Keep in mind, the *best* ROM varies from person to person.
That being said, Check this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=943
For AOSP Roms, I personally like Liquid Smooth. Fast, stable ROM
and its been themed/skinned to look a great deal like Ice Cream Sandwich.
CyanogenMod 7 is another popular ROM for T-Bolt. Even tho it's not "officially"
supported, it appears to work just fine.
(Liquid Smooth is the ROM I'm currently running).
If you like SENSE Roms, the BAMF series seems to be quite popular and
the IKream series also looks great.
I personally suggest that you hack the phone with Revolutionary, then
do a full backup with ClockWorkMod. After that, you can flash all the ROMs
you want with a simple restore to put you back to stock.
Since you're experimenting with ROMs, I suggest you stick with ROMs that
do not require a new Radio. Radio's can brick your phone and there are plenty
of ROMs out that work with the Stock Radio.
Good Luck!
I really like Liquid Smooth 3.2. Its super fast and looks amazing. It's much like CM7 but I like it better. I rarely have force closes or any bugs at all.
Liquid 3.2 for AOSP with IMO's latest kernel. Don't forget to run speedtweak.sh after installing kernel.
Infected eternity Sense 3.5 with 3d custom Rosie and CPU running at 1.5.
If you like sense 2.1, well than you have no taste lol.
i have liquid smooth 3.2 installed and it run very nicely... i was wondering if anyone knows where to find some nice themes for this rom? i did a search but i cant seem to find any themes for this rom, is there a ICS theme available?

There always has to be one of these guys ^, the self appointed search police (btw, your link pops up "no matches" for me).
Some guys read every post ever posted, and complain about all of the ones not interesting enough for them. Rom's change on a daily basis, and there was absolutely nothing wrong with this thread. Even though I have had my TB since it was released, and have followed this forum ever since, I am still interested to see others opinions on CURRENT ROM's. That is why I opened this thread, why did you?
To the OP, I dual boot Gingeritis 1.2 (mainly because it came with the miui bar, even though pvy's app can be had separately in the market now) and CM7 (need it for work).
IMHO The best most stable is Eternity. It also has the best support
The best is the one that gives you the features you need. Everyone has different needs and taste

ICS ROM for MyTouch 4G Slide- Any Recommendation?

I want to try out one of the ICS ROMs in MyTouch4G slide. If anyone tried the ICS ROMs, which one would you recommend for stable daily use?
I am very new to rooting and using/installing ROMs. All I can do is to read and follow instructions…other than that I mostly do not know what that I am doing with my phone. So please bear with me if my question turnout to be a dumb one.
The main motivation for checking out ICS is that I want to see bengali language complex scripts on the phone with UTF-8 and I heard that ICS natively supports it. I understand that I can tryout everything and decide for myself. But considering my lack of knowledge on this matter, I would love to try out one that users mostly recommend.
Here is some brief history of what I have done with my phone so far:
I have gained S-off and rooted my phone using the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286324
After sticking with the stock ROM for few months, I upgrade from Clockworkmod 4.0.0.9 to the Clockworkmod 5.0.2.7 and the installed Bulletproof 1.1 ROM using the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360746
I would greatly appreciate any feedback.
Well I've been using Pyr'o'Ice Desensed 1.1.3 and I can absolutely recommend that one. I may just be lucky, but I haven't had a single crash yet. As far as I know, everything works perfectly except for the GPS crapping out one time. It's legitimately fantastic and speeds the phone up drastically. Not to mention how great chrome is for the phone. So...yeah. It's the only one I've tried, but it is by all accounts stable.
I've been using wildshilds aokp port. Its stable
Everything workkz exept camcorder mmms and some other minor things

Yes it's the most stable PLUS a touch screen fix
Typed by ---- oh wait! I'm schizophrenic!
I've been running Pyr'O'Ice 1.1.1 Sense 3.6 since last Thursday and I must say that it seems to be solid as a rock too and is not bad at ALL on battery life considering that fact. (Sense ROM) It gets a good, solid 3G connection and is fairly snappy too. So far, the only bug I've found in my limited use is that if you try to unlock the lockscreen while holding your phone landscape it will deactivate the lock mechanism. (You'll have to put it back to sleep & hold it portrait to unlock it upon wakeup). All in all a REALLY nice ICS ROM, IMHO!
I'm very happy with Pyroice Desensed. ICS on the Doubleshot is wonderful and tbalden has done some amazing work.
That being said, I have three main issues with the ROM. None of them are blockers for me, but I'll describe them in more detail in case they are problems for you:
1. EGL_NOT_INITIALIZED crashes when launching apps. These have gone down a lot with the latest GPU drivers, but I still get them reasonably frequently. Flicking away a few apps (especially GPU intense ones like Chrome) tends to sort them out, though.
2. Face Unlock crashes instead of falling back to the secondary lock. I have a bizarre dance I do to get past this without rebooting which is why it isn't a bigger problem. I suspect (but can't prove) this is another EGL crash since I usually find many and/or GPU-intensive apps in my recent apps list after I successfully unlock, but I haven't dug into this further.
3. Bluetooth support can be wonky and bit unstable. With 1.1.3, I don't think I've successfully answered a call with my headset with music playing (I believe, but I'm not sure that I did this successfully with older versions). I've also had a few reboots that looked Bluetooth-related. I'd consider this a bigger issue, but I'm used to buggy Bluetooth implementations (see: G2). Other than that, though, music, calls and tethering (to my tablet) all work, so it is generally "good enough".
Pyr'O'Ice 1.1.3. It's stable as a daily driver.

If you like HTC Sense Primadonna by Team Virtuous is a great option. I wasn't able to run some apps that I love and need while on Pyro Ice. I've been able to run them on Primadonna.

Last night I flashed Virtuous Inquisition. I'm loving it! The camera software is different (not better). I was able to take quick pics with the stock camera software with this one I have to wait in between pics. It remaps some buttons. The genius button becomes a search button. Very smooth ROM. Very easy install.

Just tested out the camera. Hit the camera button on the screen to take the next shot immediately. Also, most of us had that "Genius" button remapped since full root was first gained.

i've used pyroice 1.1.3, wildchilds AOKP, virtuous prima and virtuous inquisition and the best for a dd is easily the prima or inquisition only becasue they have gps and wifi working good. prima if you want sense. inq if you want aokp. this all might change when wildchild releases v3, we will see. (hurry please) (dont take as whining, just excitement)
added: i forgot MIUI! not ics technically but tbaldens miui is ics everywhere except the phone info i think. and miui is f'ing the best if you like customizing. you could customize all day on that rom

Thanks for the brief descriptions. Been looking for a good ics rom for my buddy.. I was using Virtuous Inquisition on my Wife's Sensation and its one of the best roms she ever used. Now though she switched to AOKP.. didn't even realize Inquisition was out for this phone.. sweet.
In my opinion MIUI is even more IPhone kang than touchwiz ... been

Thanks all for your feedback.
I have decided to try Virtuous Inquisition to get a taste of ICS.
Let us know how it goes for you. I want to try ICS but I need to have like everything working. MMS, wifi, and 4G for work; camera for when my wife doesn't have her phone; and everything else just so I don't get made fun of at work for running a cooked ROM and every ROM I read about before always had something wrong with it. Granted, it's been a while since I've looked.
