upgrade version without computer - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Could someone point me to tutorial how to upgrade
nexus 5 to future 4.5 or 5.0 without using the compu-
ter? The cause it that I have openbsd and freebsd no-
des and no mac, win or linux. My best bet is it should
be the same as upgrading to 4.4.3 or alike.
I assume factory image would delete all files on the
phone. Is there any way to avoid that?
Best regards all.

if you're not rooted or have your phone modified in any way, it should arrive via OTA, you don't need a PC.

Yes what person above said is correct. Also if you aren't getting ota you can manually make it pop up.. By doing this:
Goto*Settings ->Apps-> (scroll over to all apps) then go down to Google Services Framework*then hit “Clear data”
Do that over and over and every time you do it go to settings and check for update over and over and make sure you have a good signal and it should come up at some point.

Ah! Thanks a lot! Gonna look at it with pleasure.
Aside this way, I was not sure if about half of gb might be downloaded
via OTA. Probably it should not be a problem. My first thought was it
was too big to be handled.

Typically any Official update will break #SU access and sometimes cause a serious headache in the process.
If you are rooted, do not apply the update. Just wait for a kitchen baked variant to be released.

The ones in the radio thread stickied in the development section are ok to flash. They are setup properly for root. Bluetooth definitely got some attention in this update. Much more stable connection than before, not perfect, but much better and livable.

maybe fixes visual voicemail bug?
For about 6 weeks I've been having issues with the stock visual voicemail app force-closing every time I tried to use it. I tried going into the app's settings area and clearing its data, then re-enabling it in the caller app, all to no avail.
I just installed this update and it looks like my VVM is working again, so I'm hoping this was indeed a known issue and was fixed.
(FTR, I'm not sure that a factory reset before the update wouldn't have fixed the problem, but I didn't feel like re-installing all my apps so I let it go and just used the old-school voicemail number for a while.)
Is there anyway possible for me to get the update because i had s-off and then i wanted to unroot but i used gfree so i had to use gfree and ran into a crap load of problems leaving me right now with s-off and no root permissions . i need to get a new mytouch because this one randomly restarts and i cant send in one with s-off... can anyone help me out?

Is there anything in this radio other than a new radio and new hboot?
I'm s-off via engineering bootloader, NOT gfree. Is it worth the trouble to use gfree so I can ruu and stay s-off, accept the update, then flash clockworkmod recovery via bootloader, then go back to cm7?
That's exactly what I did with the sensation.

Yes it does. Some people just wants the Official automatic update without flashing anything and not wait for the OEM and carrier take forever.
My mother's reason why she went with this and my friend's reason.
You could flash CM11 from the automatic installer but that CM11 ROM is pretty buggy

Chill dudes, it was just a question. Android is about freedom, whether you want to root or not is a personal choice. I come from a rooted S2 before my N5 and I would love to root my phone, but I'm just enjoying the phone as it is right now. No need to force your ideals into others' faces.

Installing a particular game off Play Store gives me "Application not installed "-24" error". Sideloading it gives me "App not Installed". Having this issue with 2 games actually (Deemo and Blocky Roads). A little annoyed as I would really wanna get my hands on those games! Then again I'm a little too busy right now to bother doing a backup and rooting + customising.

There is an option in developer options to turn on the advanced four way boot menu, don't know if you need to be rooted for it to work or not since I unlock and root my devices the day I get them.
Edit: Never mind what I said, I must of been running a rom that had this enabled, because I just checked my nexus 7 running purity and the option is not there.

Anyone has flashable 4.4.1 radio for Nexus 5? [Got it and GPS issue FIXED!!]

Hi,
I want to try the GPS fix solution by flashing the Android 4.4.1 radio on my Nexus 5.
GPS issue: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=72311
But after searching the internet, I could not find it.
It is not even listed in the official Nexus 5 download image.
Anyone has it?
Please if you can share.
Thank you.

I only found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...t/modem-nexus-5-flashable-modems-efs-t2514095
On your RESOURCES link.
But, I don't know how to flash it. When I extracted the linked "modem" (is this the radio?), I got 2 files.
I am expecting to have a single .img radio image.
If you are interested in the GPS issue that I mentioned here is the link:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=72311
Basically, the GPS was working fine, perfect prior to 4.4.3 / 4.4.4 update.
A lot of people (if not all) fixed the issue by flashing the radio from 4.4.1.

You don't need the SDK to use fastboot. Fastboot is very easy to use. You can simply install fastboot using the 15 second installer. Please have a read of my "adb and fastboot. What is it?" thread.
I know you only went in my thread to find the radios, but do have a look at the other info a guide threads there. Your world will open up.

I have done the trouble in the past with installing the whole SDK, then maintaining it.

No problem. Any time.
We definitely like to help people who are willing to learn, so respect to you for that!
It's much easier to help someone in trouble who is configured ahead of time and understand than it is to help someone in trouble who doesn't understand basic commands - this is why we (almost everyone) recommend fastboot (and adb in some cases) over toolkits.
Any adb or fastboot questions, please feel free to ask them in that thread.

It's an honest answer. Why complicate things? Take care of what needs to be fixed first and everything that follows is easy.

Yep, that or find someone else that's got a computer with USB and internet connection.
If Lollipop requires an updated bootloader (I haven't checked on that) you're done. Cause you would need your flash the new bootloader. (with fastboot... So a computer required)
If it doesn't, just flash a custom Lollipop ROM that's close to stock.
If you can't find a factory firmware zip in the development section, then that's all you can do.
Aside from getting access to a computer as already suggested.
