[Q] what to do? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

i hboot 2.14 on my phone and then flashed cyanogenmod 11 latest update as of 23/6/2014 and then when i rebooted my phone it came on to the htc quietly brilliant screen then shut off and it keeps doing that. what can i do? i am writing on laptop because my phone wont turn on.

More information required, start with your bootloader details and recovery version. Also, you should probably read the Evita FAQ thread in my signature first because it'll most likely solve your problem.

here's what i did first. i plugged my phone in my laptop via usb then went and installed the drivers. after that i followed the instructions below to get hboot 2.14
OPTIONAL: Installing the Firmware (Warning: You MUST be S-OFF and Super CID to flash this! Flash at own risk!)
• Reboot to bootloader (adb reboot bootloader if "USB Debugging" is enabled in Android)
• Run: fastboot oem rebootRUU
• Run: fastboot flash zip <PathToFirmware.zip>
• If the output ends with "FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately)", run the previous command AGAIN
• If it ends with "INFO..... OK", reboot to the bootloader: fastboot reboot-bootloader
• Verify everything was successful by running: fastboot getvar all
It was successful (said ok) so i rebooted to bootloader fastboot reboot-bootloader then i rebooted my phone and it came as fas as the htc quietly brilliant screen then went blank and the usb thingy says that the drivers failed to install. i dont know what i did wrong. i read your FAQ but i didnt see what i was looking for (atleast i think i didnt see)

Do you mean you followed those instructions to update to the 2.15 firmware? You said 2.14 but i think you might be confused about that because no such instructions or firmware package exists for 2.14 firmware. Anyway, it didn't work because your firmware is not what it should be after following those directions. Go to my How-To Guide For Beginners thread and follow the instructions there if you still want to update your firmware.
Your original post said you got stuck after flashing CM, now you're saying you got stuck after attempting to flash firmware. Which is it? Also, you didn't answer which recovery version you have installed.

Yes I did flash 2.15. Now I have a problem where once my phone is on mobile data I keep getting 'u unfortunately the process Com.android phone has stopped. And my phone service goes off. The only time I don't see this message is when the phone is in airplane mode and if it's in airplane mode I can't receive texts and calla.

Idk if cm 11 is compatible with firmware 2.15. Maybe that's why.....?

That firmware is compatible with all current aosp ROMs. @cuteyr, did you perform a full wipe before flashing?

@timmaaa i actually did a factory reset before flashing it.

That doesn't answer the question though, a full wipe includes cache, dalvik cache, data (factory reset), and system.

In that case no i didnt. Guess i have to redo @timmaaa?

You should always perform a full wipe when flashing a ROM, so yeah, I'd flash again and see if it helps.

TWRP's factory reset wipes all of those automatically, so it's best to use that one when flashing ROMs. The only times I get force closes are occasionally when restoring certain phone/messaging settings from different ROMs, and there is always the possibility of a bad download. If you get force closes after a clean flash then I'd suggest downloading a different ROM or version/nightly.

The factory reset option in TWRP doesn't wipe the system partition.

@timmaaa so I wiped my phone(cache, dalvik, factory reset) then flashed the firmware again then installed cm11 rom and after that was successful I turned my phone back on and I realized the message wasn't coming back on...that is until about two and a half hours later it ppopped up ' unfortunately the process Com.android.phone has stopped and it hasn't stopped once my phone is not on airplane mode. What to do? I'm in desperate need of help as my phone is my major way of doing all sorts of things

htc one s brik problem [SOLVED]

Hi i have a big problem with my new htc one s
i follow all instructions: clear data, factory reset, install rom, then install boot.img
Roms boot until it shows wallpaper and top toolbar with the battery icon and time, then can read preparing phone storage.... and an error appears asking me to wait or close system process
The rom restarts and stucks at this point dont know what else do, i try installing stock recovery and clear data factory reset and try install with 3 versions of recovery whith same result, have tried some different roms and its the same.
Wonder if anyone knows what i have to do solve this..
Thankyou in advance.

thanks for your answer
Yes i flash [ROM][ICS] |June 13th| Energy™ -.¸¸.·´¯ Blue with the boot.img from the downloads
and [ROM] Ir2 1.78.401.2 - HTC One S Stock ROM DUO [Deodexed-Updated-Optimised]
When finish flasing from recovery reboot on fastboot and flash the boot.img and always is the same result.
I've tried to change to stock version of recovery and wipe all, reset to factory default then flash custom recovery and start the process but is the same.
when i whipe from stock or custom version of recovery there isn't any error message.
thankyou very much.
you don't flash the boot.img from recovery--read OP
boot.img
I flash it from fastboot not installing a zip from recovery. I also try installing by script like on [ROM][ICS] |June 14th| Energy™ -.¸¸.·´¯ Blue that there is an script that makes the installation always from fastboot

Hi, find a way to make my htc one s woking again
This is the solution:
first i've to change my CID because my phone is from ORANGE spain and cannot flash a official RUU.
for this i follow this tutorial
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26516911#post26516911
Second flash stock recovery and lock boot
finally i've downloaded the last europe RUU, and execute it.The process works like a charm and in 15 or 20 minutes my one s was working again.
Now i have lock boot, stock recovery and unrooted phone and have one question:
for root my phone again have to unlock and flash a custom recovery, and then.....
should I need to put back again stock recovery and lock boot for working an official RUU?? or can work without problems with unloked boot an custom recovery?
Thanks in advance.
Hey I have the exact same issue but running RUU didnt solve it. I have the US Tmobile Htc one s, S-off, supercid, hboot 1.14. I could load custom roms and mount usb storage only through recovery. my sd card does not show in fastboot. However, my phone never completely boots. It goes all the way to the lockscreen, allows me to pull the ring, then gets stuck on preparing phone storage. Flashing RUU does the same.
can anyone help?

I have the same problem any ideas?
anyone know of any gurus in the forum knows how to fix
I've been trying for a month
any rom to put loads and after a 10-20sec reset
For you with sd-card problems, have you tried to flash stock recovery and then boot to bootloader and choose clear storage? It worked for me.
If you installed a RUU, ofcourse you already have stock recovery.

it would just freeze at the loading screen and restart
so i tried wiping everything and flash a stock RUU from HTC (t-mobile) 4.1.1
everything went off without a hitch
went to bootloader which showed a new version of the radio
tried to boot it up
and it did boot up but i coudnt go any further it just keeps saying

i tried wipe/data factory reset but it says cant mount SDCARD even though TWRP has no problem with wiping it

For about some days, I flash an RUU when I was still s-off and boot-unlocked, then I flash twrp-recovery, make the adb thinks with mmcblk* (dd flash) and flash again a RUU. As you can read here.
But same boot loop problem with "Preparing Phone Storage...".
Because dd flash (the mmcblk* file) under linux and with startet recovery did not solve my bootloop / prepairing sd card problem (I had still access to my sd card with twrp-recovery! All the time!) I really think about to enable s-on
I am only scared when I do:

Reverting back to stock issues (TELUS)

I'm sending this phone back for warranty (sim card error), and I can't seem to be able to get it back to stock. I've searched all over this site, so any help would be great!
This is a Telus phone, CID: TELUS001. Unlocked with viper rom installed. I can't seem to read my version, as fastboot getvar version-main does not return anything.
From the RUU download pages, only the Telus OTA is available for my phone.
I've tried numerous RUU's, but as expected, I'm getting version errors. I have also tried flashing the OTA over stock recovery, but the recovery can't recognize my SD card (not sure why). SD card is working properly though.

Telus did not release an RUU for that software version on our phone. So OTA is the only way.
So to do this properly as you are not S-OFF
download the OTA
extracted the recovery from the OTA & flash it
then fastboot erase cache
then relocked the bootloader
Then flash the zip through stock recovery.

Ok that's what I figured. I have done exactly this, but when I get to stock recovery I'm getting "SD card can not be found" errors. So using the OTA isn't possible right now. Do you know any other way?
I'll try and figure out the SD card error and go from there I guess.

You need to S-OFF first. Check if you are S-OFF in bootloader, if not, S-OFF then run any ATT RUU for the oneXL.
If you attempt to RUU without achieving S-OFF you will brick.

Ok I will try this sometime this weekend, thanks! Did you have to go the manual route for getting SuperCID? I have tried the batch AT&T file that has been posted, but it won't work for my phone.
You will probably need to downgrade your hboot to be able to write to mmcblk0p4. To do that you would need the jet tool.

Recovery: TWRP 2.6.0.0

I have read the warnings about applying an RUU when S-ON and SuperCID, but since I was S-ON without SuperCID, will the method of:
download the OTA
extract recovery from the OTA & flash it
fastboot erase cache
relocked the bootloader
flash the zip through stock recovery
work to restore my phone to stock? Will I risk bricking the phone?
Thanks for the help.

I have a similar situation and was hoping to get some advice before I proceed. I need to return my Telus phone to stock to enable enterprise email (the GOOD app checks for root and doesn't access email if root is detected).

Should work... Yes there is a risk. I would RUU instead of OTA though since the OTA does not flash everything back to stock.
I don't see why you would avoid taking the time to S-OFF though...

[Q] Evita Can't Boot ROMs

I have been working on my girlfriend's AT&T Evita for about 10 hours now and keep hitting a wall when I try to flash AOKP Milestone 1 or Cyanogenmod 10.
Here's my process:
Unlock Bootloader
Flash TWRP 2.5.0.0
TWRP Factory Reset
Flash AOKP
Flash GAPPs
Clear Cache
Power Off
Fastboot
Flash boot.img from the AOKP ZIP
Reboot
When I run through this process I get the X logo, but the animation just runs and runs, never goes anywhere. Basically the same result when I go through the same process with CM10, but with CM logo stuck just spinning. Only option when that happens is to relock the bootloader and RUU the phone.
S-ON
HBOOT 1.14.0002
RADIO 0.19as32.09.11_2
OpenDSP-v29.1.0.45.0622
RUU version 2.20.502.7 (not sure, will have to check when I get back home in an hour or so.)
Stock Android 4.0.4
Is there any additional information needed? Anyone have any ideas?
Download 2.3.3.1 Check md5
fastboot flash recovery recoveryfilename.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
select recovery
wipe cache, dalvik, system, factory reset
flash your rom
reboot to bootloader
fastboot flash boot boot.img (whereby boot.img is extracted from the rom you're flashing)
reboot
twrp 2.4+ has issues wiping.
If that doesn't work, some phones have issues booting newer cm roms unless they are on 2.14 hboot. To fix that you would have to s-off and then ruu up to 3.18 then flash recovery.

I believe facepalm is the only known method for this device. Read through the thread, lots of info about how to get the exploit to work
Ok, followed your instructions exactly, still getting the "This Build is for development only" message, but I'm IN!
Thanks for the help exad.
Edit: FacePalm S-OFF successful on first attempt when run from AOKP.

[Q] HTC One X doesn't work, error 7 on setup any(!) ROM

Posted my topic to incorrect thread and don't know how to move it, so re-post my question here.
Default [Q] HTC One X doesn't work, error 7 on setup any(!) ROM
Device: HTC One X AT&T USA, Android 4.0.4
HBoot 1.14 (unlocked), S-ON, cid: 11111111 (was CWS__001), rooted (CWM-SuperSU-v0.96)
Hi,
I have sim-unlocked AT&T HTC One X that I bought in USA last year and used it in 'as is' condition. A week ago it got to cyclical reboot. I made factory reset, but of course I lost all my data. In this case I decided to upgrade HBoot and setup latest CyanogenMod (yeap, I thought I have nothing to lose ).
I re-wrote cid to supercid, unlocked flashboot, rooted the phone... but made a mistake and flashed CyanogenMod boot.img before upgraded Hboot *facepalm*.
And now it's unable to load android (it just shows HTC logo with red warning text).
Of course, I tried to restore original Boot from backup, but this didn't help.
I'm able to open Bootloader and custom recovery menu (recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.1-evita.img), but unable to install any ROM (tried to use ROMs that are based on ICS, because my Hboot 1.14) - it always returns me error 7, even if all requirements are met. Tried to remove asserts from updater-script , but in this case it just shows 'Opening update package... Installing update... Installation aborted.'
I tried almost all that I found in web, used different backups and ROMs, but nothing helped.
I also tried to flash stock RUU (european, since I didn't find USA version - btw does it matter?) , but it getting Error 132 - Signature error.
Please could somebody help me to return my phone to a working state? Any advices are truly appreciated!
P.S. Unfortunately on one of the steps I lost my original backup (sdcard was formatted).
Thanks.

UPDATE:
I thought that since I have supercid I can use any RUU, but seems like I should use RUU exactly for CWS__001 or based on this thread I should make my phone S-Off and install any RUU. I cannot find any RUU for r CWS__001 in web, so if S-Off really helps, could you please advise correct RUU for my phone?
Thank you in advance!
Have you tried flashing a different recovery? It might help. Download TWRP 2.6 from here. Put it in your fastboot folder, connect your phone, open command prompt from within fastboot folder, issue following commands:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"
(the exact filename, minus the talking marks)
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now enter recovery and try to install your ROM again. Post results here.

PS. do not use an RUU while you have SuperCID and s-on, it will brick your phone. Try my above instructions first.

This recovery seems pretty good, thank you!
And it looks like I understand why all ROMs gets me Error 7: all of them are for Endeavor, but my phone is Evita, isn't it?
I made all that you wrote:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-evita.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Also I found this ROM (MIUIandroid 3.2.22 for the EVITA version of the HTC One X/L) and ran installation from recovery. And there are no Error 7! :victory: (of course I also flashed boot - fastboot flash boot boot.img)
The instruction for this ROM also says "Install gapps; Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache". I installed gapps (MIUI.us_evita_v4_3.1.25_Eng_mirG.zip)
BUT unable to wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache: currently my phone says "Unable to mount '/cache' and '/data'".
How can I fix this?
Oh! And thank you for warn me about RUU installation!

Holy crap you are so lucky you didn't brick your phone by flashing those Endeavoru ROMs. Yes, you have an Evita, it'll say that at the top of your bootloader. Don't ever flash Endeavoru ROMs again, you could brick. Only ever download your ROMs from our forum, go here for Sense ROMs or here for aosp ROMs. Don't ever download from any other forum or any other site.
I'm honestly not sure why it can't mount cache/dalvik cache though. Did you use the advanced wipe feature?

Yes, I used 'Wipe cache/Dalvik' button after installation and additionally 'Advanced wipe > Dalvik cache, Cache'.
After gaps installation it shows only "E:Unable to mount '/data'"

Installation says "Successful" but it shows "E:Unable to mount '/data'" in logs.
Also I'm getting the same issue when trying to wipe dalvik cache and cache.
It sounds like the recovery is needing a valid /data partition before it will let you flash.

And just to be sure, what are my future steps if I want to flash any ROM on Android 4.2 or higher (For example, CM 10.1)?
Could you please take a look on the steps below and tell me if I missed something or understood wrong?
1. Do S-OFF based on [S-Off] Facepalm S-Off for HTC One XL
2. Load in fastboot mode and re-lock fastboot (fastboot oem lock)
3. Go to recovery and do full wipe
4. Update to 3.18 RUU by running its .exe.
If I understand correctly, this should upgrade my HBoot and Radio and get me official HTC ROM with JB 4.1.1 (is this safely with SuperCID and S-OFF?)
6. Unlock bootloader (fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin)
5. Downgrade touchscreen firmware.
6. Download last stable version of CM and the appropriate gapps and push it to sdcard
7. Go to recovery and create a backup
8. Do a full wipe
9. Install CM zip from sdcard
10. Install gapps
11. Flash boot (fastboot flash boot boot.img)
Thank you in advance!
PS: Probably you can advise me any other stable ROM?

You've done very well but if you get s-off first you can actually forget some of those steps. Follow the below steps.
1. Do S-OFF based on [S-Off] Facepalm S-Off for HTC One XL
2. Update to 3.18 RUU by running its exe file. This will update your phone to 2.14 hboot, and stock at&t ROM, and stock recovery. Safe to run with SuperCID as long as you s-off first.
3. Flash TWRP 2.6 again as detailed earlier.
4. Go into recovery and create a backup.
8. Do a full wipe
9. Install ROM zip from sdcard.
10. Install appropriate gapps.
Because you'll have s-off first, you don't need to relock your bootloader before the RUU. You will also not have to flash the boot.img from fastboot anymore. Part of the beauty of having s-off.
I can't really advise any ROMs. It's against the rules to ask which ROM is best/favorite/most stable, therefore I can't really answer that question. I'd just suggest having a look at a few ROMs, checking out any bugs that are noted in the first few posts, and reading some user connects to get an idea of what's working and what's not.

timmaaa, thank you so much!
Currently I've flashed CM 10.0 (last stable), but when I'll be ready to S-OFF I'll follow your steps.
Thank you once again for your help!
No problems at all, you're welcome.

[Q] Stuck on Hboot/fastboot with full stock phone

Hi guys,
My sister sent me her HTC One SV aka K2-UL i offered her from expansys on june, it is stuck on Hboot
*** LOCKED***
K2_UL XA SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.00.0000
eMMC Boot
...
I can go to Fastboot USB ( or AC )
She 's worst than a noob so phone is stock, up to date but non-root non-unlock, still S-ON and so on.
just once phone reboot and stay stuck...
From here i can navigate but after reboot i'm still here.
I tried :
factory reset and recovery (with rom renamed PL80DIAG but would be too easy...)
RUU but RUU asked for bootloader so stuck on "waiting for bootloader"
go to htc dev to unlock bootloader but after flash unlock token ( unlock token check successfully) but : Nothing happens and still writtten ***Locked*** then if I "fastboot oem unlock" it says failed :<remote : loading custom splash failed>
fastboot flash boot.img but nothing works since still S-on and locked bootloader (superCID is out too)
flash custom recovey or even fresh stock recovery but nothing worked for the same reasons...
Do you guys have any idea of something i could do?
Thanks for your answer and forgive my English I'm French
As long as you are ***LOCKED*** you can quiet do nothing.
To use our available RUU you must also be unlocked & S-Off.
Somewhat the same situation
I am stuck here:

I can get into Fastboot as well as bootloader, I CANNOT GET INTO RECOVERY. I have tried to restore with the respective RUU files from the All things HTC ONE SV forum. I have also tried to flash the recovery boot and radio img files through fastboot usb. NONE of this has worked for me. I really enjoyed this phone before I went and made it all FUBR. If there is anyway to get it to boot to any recovery or rom, i will much appreciate it. Thanks for all your help from previous posts as well as any future help I get from information posted here.
Related to your hboot, you should be able to flash any recoveries, but i usually recommend this one.
What command do you use to flash recovery and do you get an output from "fastboot devices"?

Thanks a million for the replies. I was able to lead the recovery and get into it (the most progress i have had in a year with this phone). With that being done. When I go into recovery I am unable to mount the internal storage. I am not too sure of the procedures I need to go through to get this thing functional again. I have been tinkering with my S3 for the last few months, but with KNOX on now I am looking to Jump ship completely from both verizon and samsung. Enough rambling, Like I said thanks for the help, any assistance in getting this thing to boot to a ROM would be much appreciated.
BTW
I used the fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
I have tried this before with no success. This time it worked.
I also flased the Radio and Boot img for ICS.
Thanks.

If yes, use moonshine.io or rumrunner.us to get S-off.

Wow! Awsome! This bad boy booted. I was able to flash the rom through recovery. This is much further than I expected to get with this device. Now when I try to go S-Off with either moonshine or rumrunner I get an error saying not able to make adb connection. When I use fastboot devices my device will show up...if i do adb devices nothing...Would love to have S-Off and SU installed. But like I said this is much further than I expected to get so anything further is icing on the cake. Thanks in Advance.
Is Usb-Debugging enabled?
Any output from adb devices? HTC Sync installed (for the drivers)?

He can just use the Naked Driver for the adb driver. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2263822
Ok I DID have USB debugging enabled. After messing with the drivers and my Windows 8 computer, I have came to the conclusion that it is something with the drivers and their compatibility with Windows 8. Either way moonshine or rumnunner never worked for me in a windows 8 environment. I dual boot ubuntu 12.04 anyway, it saw my device just fine adb and fastboot. I ran moonshine and it went through all the testing stages, but was never able to completely run...so I still have no S-Off. Do I need to update Hboot or anything? Also am I able to load a custom rom on this device with S-ON? I have been looking but I do not see many out for this device at all, which is a shame because I feel as though it is very comparable to my GS3. It would be nice to see a nice AOSP ROM on this device. But all take any updates I can for the device, hopefully it will help with the issue I have will cell reception dropping all the time. Thanks
To answer some of your questions:
- you can't update hboot because you are not stock and not S-off
- there are indeed not much roms to flash, but you could do with S-on (and unlocked bootloader)
- if you would flash the Sense 5/Android 4.2.2 rom, you would have noizy sound, without the firmware files (which you need S-Off to flash)
Another way for getting S-off (which should work with your hboot), is facepalm.
But the part of changing CID to SuperCID is very risky, read carefully and only do, when you are sure you understand, what to do!!!
