Reverting back to stock issues (TELUS) - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I'm sending this phone back for warranty (sim card error), and I can't seem to be able to get it back to stock. I've searched all over this site, so any help would be great!
This is a Telus phone, CID: TELUS001. Unlocked with viper rom installed. I can't seem to read my version, as fastboot getvar version-main does not return anything.
From the RUU download pages, only the Telus OTA is available for my phone.
I've tried numerous RUU's, but as expected, I'm getting version errors. I have also tried flashing the OTA over stock recovery, but the recovery can't recognize my SD card (not sure why). SD card is working properly though.
Other phone info:

Telus did not release an RUU for that software version on our phone. So OTA is the only way.
So to do this properly as you are not S-OFF
download the OTA
extracted the recovery from the OTA & flash it
then fastboot erase cache
then relocked the bootloader
Then flash the zip through stock recovery.

Ok that's what I figured. I have done exactly this, but when I get to stock recovery I'm getting "SD card can not be found" errors. So using the OTA isn't possible right now. Do you know any other way?
I'll try and figure out the SD card error and go from there I guess.
Thanks for the info!!

what is the solution for the at&t htc one x? I am running the viper rom and would LOVE to restore this back to factory settings. I am not sure if I am s-on or s-off but after I installed viper rom I didnt touch any of the settings if that helps. I am slightly noobish when it comes to this so the simplest directions would definitely help!

You need to S-OFF first. Check if you are S-OFF in bootloader, if not, S-OFF then run any ATT RUU for the oneXL.
If you attempt to RUU without achieving S-OFF you will brick.

So I extracted the recovery from the OTA and followed the steps, but in the recovery menu I'm still getting:
Mount SDCARD failed 1 times
Mount SDCARD failed 2 times
Mount SDCARD failed 3 times
Mount SDCARD failed 4 times
Mount SDCARD failed 5 times
Can not mount SD Card.(No such file or directory)
Using any of the "apply" menus in the recovery brings up an error and my phone is rebooted.
I've tried it 3-4 times now. Any suggestions?
Thanks again,

Ok I will try this sometime this weekend, thanks! Did you have to go the manual route for getting SuperCID? I have tried the batch AT&T file that has been posted, but it won't work for my phone.

You will probably need to downgrade your hboot to be able to write to mmcblk0p4. To do that you would need the jet tool.

I have a similar situation and was hoping to get some advice before I proceed. I need to return my Telus phone to stock to enable enterprise email (the GOOD app checks for root and doesn't access email if root is detected).
My device information is as follows:
Evita PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT - 1.11.0000
RADIO - 0.18a.32.05.01_2
CID: TELUS001
Recovery: TWRP 2.6.0.0
ROM: JellyBam 7.8.0
I have read the warnings about applying an RUU when S-ON and SuperCID, but since I was S-ON without SuperCID, will the method of:
download the OTA
extract recovery from the OTA & flash it
fastboot erase cache
relocked the bootloader
flash the zip through stock recovery
work to restore my phone to stock? Will I risk bricking the phone?
Thanks for the help.

Should work... Yes there is a risk. I would RUU instead of OTA though since the OTA does not flash everything back to stock.
I don't see why you would avoid taking the time to S-OFF though...

What md5 checksum do you want to check ?? There are many utilities to check md5 checksum on computer. Run superwipe script , then install Android Revolution HD 6.2.1 , You have the correct firmware for it. I can see.
I have a same problem.
Didn't read the thread very well and I upgraded the wrong firmware.
Now, I just see the ''HTC'' logo and after that it's only rebooting over and over again. I downloaded the firmware I needed, thought I will just replace it with this ''broken'' one, but I'm getting errors all the time. And after that, again rebooting.
HTC Sensation, S-Off, first firmware was 2.3.4.
Error is: ''CID incorrect, update fail'' in HBOOT.
Only way I can stop rebooting after that message is to take out the battery.
Anyone got any other solutions except the first answer?
Thank you in advance, sorry about my bad english.
NOTE: I'm a noob at this, just wanted ICS on my phone. So, please, explain it in ''moron language''

Pull the card out and boot it into hboot mode. Then to recovery. Mount your sd card. Plug it into your computer. Delete the incorrect firmware. Find a superwipe zip. Flash Zip. Then flash correct firmware.

It looks like you have a valid version of the Firmware (HBOOT 1.27.1100). However you need to understand that that version ONLY supports ICS ROMs, so it won't support your old ROM even if you recover it. Also as usual you should SuperWipe when changing things this dramatically.
As you still seem to be able to get into Recovery try the following:
i) Download the Superwipe Script from the ARHD thread, in the Downloads bit in he first post.
ii) Download a full ICS ROM, take your pick (my preference is Virtuous Inquisition 3.5).
iii)Copy the files over to the SD-card from your PC.
iv) Delete the PG59IMG.zip from the SD-card. (ADDED IN EDIT1)
In recovery, run the Superwipe Script. Then Install the ICS ROM. The first re-boot will take a few mins.
To check MD5s just get a free MD5 checker for your PC and also get one for the phone, when it's backup up and running.

You haven't detailed what your HBOOT is at the moment, what does it say if you go into BootLoader ?
As it's mentioning CID, I assume you didn't SuperCID the phone, not an issue just get the right one for you CID from:

After you update the Firmware you'll need to:
i) SuperWipe
ii) Install ICS ROM

Tried that, still stuck in the loop. I think half the firmware update has ran, then it has failed, so i need to roll back...
Download both the 3.30 and 3.12 FW. Open the 3.12 zip on your computer and replace just the Hboot file with the one from the 3.30 zip. Then flash the customized zip so you'll have the 3.30 fw with the 3.12 boatloader (1.23 not 1.27) and then flash a 3.30 Rom.
Some phones arent booting with the 1.27 bootloader that comes with the 3.24 and 3.30 fw.

You can superCID from fastboot. Put it in bootloader, connect USB, bootloader should say fastboot USB.
Follow sticky guide in dev forum.
Is the pg58img.zip still on your SD?

I had the same problem when I first tried to flash a rom, you just have to find the right firmware for your CID, find yours here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767, and if you don't know your CID just superCID as shown in the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 and skip steps 5,6,7, just manually boot into bootloader.
If you want you can also see what I did on this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516373

Are you s-off ? If you are S-OFF , then you need not have any file.
Just boot into bootloader.
Open a fastboot terminal in pc.
and type
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot getvar cid
After this you will get a reply like this CID : 11111111
If you are not S-OFF, then first install adb and fastboot in your pc from here for windows or from here for linux and follow this guide.
How To get your Hboot Version - 3 methods below
1. Run the revolutionary Utility you just downloaded from http://revolutionary.io/ and if it has found your device it should read
"Found your Device: HTC Sensation Z710* Applications -> Development)
4. With the phone switched on (not in HBOOT, just the regular home screen), plug in your USB cable and select HTC sync mode.(IGNORE any warning messages on your phone telling you it cannot find HTC Sync )
5. Launch revolutionary.exe. It should detect the phone and ask for your beta key. Type it (BE CAREFUL, as its case sensitive) or copy and paste it in.
If Revolutionary fails to find your phone verify you have all the drivers installed, try disk drive mode or charging mode (Linux users can use disk drive mode. Confirmed to be working by others)
6. Once you have entered your beta key correctly, follow any on screen prompts or actions from revolutionary and wait for it to S-Off,
7. You're done. Your Device will Successfully have S-OFF....if it hangs on method 3 and doesn't S-Off. See post 2 below for solutions.
IF REVOLUTIONARY SAYS FAILED YOUR PHONE IS NOT SUPPORTED. Go back and check hboot using the methods above. some users are told its failed and they still have S off now. If you have S-off your hboot will now be 1.17.1011 and revolutionary will tell you now your device is not supported
8. Revolutionary will now ask you to Install clockwork recovery mod after S OFF. Type N and install it manually below (the recovery provided is v4.0.1.4 doesn't charge when device is switched off, the one below v5.0.0.1 does charge)
9. Your Device now is S-off.

I have S-Off, but how do I Open a fastboot terminal in pc? Please excuse the newbeeness.
Thank you so much for the reply.
Open cmd prompt as admin (RT click)
cd to folder with fastboot drivers (e.g. cd C:/sdk/tools)
Connect in bootloader via USB, type "fastboot devices" and you should get a response with your serial number.
Enter commands as above!

You can superCID from fastboot. Put it in bootloader, connect USB, bootloader should say fastboot USB.
Follow sticky guide in dev forum.

By fastboot terminal I mean :
Open command prompt in windows.
CD to the directory where adb and fastboot installed ( generally platform-tools folder in the sdk).( Boot your phone into bootloader mode. and connect to pc)
Now type :
in the command prompt:
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot getvar cid
After this you will get a reply like this CID : 11111111

Can't revert to stock --> T-mob101 (DE), hboot 2.16, S-ON

Recently I tried out a custom rom on my T-mobile branded One S, but I want to revert back to stock in order to do a S-OFF.
Before flashing the custom rom I ran the latest official t-mobile firmware, non rooted, original recovery, h-boot 2.16 and radio 1.15, S-ON. I unlocked the phone with an HTC-dev unlock token, flashed TWRP recovery and flashed a custom rom but left the phone S-ON.
Now I want to revert back to stock so I can do a S-OFF (which is needed for certain roms). I picked a RUU corresponding my CID t-mob101, in this case the only one I could find was:
Code:
RUU_Ville_U_TMO_DE_1.77.111.5_Radio_0.16.31501S.17_2_10.23.31501S.10L_release_259421_signed.exe
I wanted to try this one, but the download link is dead:
Code:
RUU_Ville_U_ICS_40_S_TMO_DE_2.38.111.10_Radio_1.09 es.50.02.07_2_10.09d.50.04L_ver2_release_287723_si gned.exe
I flashed back the original recovery, relocked the phone and tried to run the RUU. However when running the RUU I get an 155 error, which means the RUU isn't corresponding to my CID?
Does this mean i'm out of any options reverting to stock? I don't have a nandroid backup..
Thanks in advance!
Try Magio Rom and do S-off > then flash RUU. It works for me with hboot 2.16
First: S-off using facepalm follow this:
1) update your android sdk by clicking android sdk manager and then update from there.
2) after the update finished, shut down your computer and then turn it on again.
3) turn off your phone, just leave it off for like 5 minutes then go to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache, then fix permissions then reboot to system.
4) using ONLY the oem htc usb cable, plug in your phone to a usb 2.0 port.
5) just before doing anything else, first check if your phone is recognized by typing "adb devices", there you should see your devices' serial number if it's recognized correctly.
6) then proceed to the steps of facepalm.
Just remember to NOT do the fastboot flash firmware again after error 92. Then after finishing "fastboot oem boot", your computer should then recognize again your phone, then you could proceed to the last three commands.
This is how i managed to have s-off using facepalm. At first i was really frustrated of that error 99, but a little reading and searching won't hurt you.
Take note that the steps i just said may or may not be required to do so, and i don't know if all these steps are really necessary but i just want to share to you guys that have had the same problem as mine. Good luck guys. Hope this helps.

However in the facepalm thread it says you do need supercid... And for supercid you do need to be S-OFF? That's strange..

Magio rom don't need s-off. You might be stuck at supercid and s-off with hboot 2.16 !!! Try it first to do supercid and s-off
When you have s-off, you can flash any Rom with boot.img and RUU.

Hey bro, I was in the same situation as you was. Flashing magio rom brought no luck. Instead of searching for RUU, which I simply cannot get I downloaded the nandroid backup 3.16.111.7 from that awesome guy over at this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192964&page=2
Copy that to your phone (the backup is big, but google drive is fast, I've downloaded it as fast as 12MB/s) and restore the backup. Note that you need to put the backup into /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/ <your device serial> /
If you dont have <your device serial> folder in BACKUPS, just do a backup of something small, it will appear there.
So restore the backup, boot into the rom you just restored, enable android debugging and run moonshine (HTC One S TMO_DE for 3.16.111.10) - it works flawlessly on the backup of 3.16.111.7.
NOTE: After restoring the backup, you may need to flash original kernel boot.img. All I did was download Bulletproof kernel 1.1 and flash the boot.img in fastboot. If the bootloader is locked, just unlock it by the steps below.
So now you're s-off hopefully, and you can boot into fastboot to get SuperCID (command fastboot oem writecid 11111111), and the bootloader may actually get locked now (or it may not...)
If your bootloader is locked, head on to htcdev and unlock it (you will need new unlock_code.bin, the old one wouldn't work).
After unlocking, just flash your favorite recovery (I use TWRP 2.4.1.0) and voila, you can mount your sdcard or adb sideload the rom zip. You may need to format external sd and then mount your sdcard, then windows will ask to format it, which is good and then you can copy the rom zip.
Hope this helped you, because I was struggling for 3 days with a non-working phone.

I was on HBOOT 2.15 (from JB OTA). With that hboot, you can not get SuperCID only by altering it in mmcblk0p4, so I had to do s-off first. If you have SuperCID, why dont you try facepalm s-off method? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155135
Please help. I'm confused. I have HBOOT 2.15
I'm S-ON.
I can't get supercid, because mmcblk0p4 is write protected or something. (I followed exactly the steps but it just doesn't stick)
And I can't S-OFF because for that I need Supercid. But you say you can S-OFF without having supercid?

[Q] Stuck on Hboot/fastboot with full stock phone

Hi guys,
My sister sent me her HTC One SV aka K2-UL i offered her from expansys on june, it is stuck on Hboot
*** LOCKED***
K2_UL XA SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.00.0000
eMMC Boot
...
I can go to Fastboot USB ( or AC )
She 's worst than a noob so phone is stock, up to date but non-root non-unlock, still S-ON and so on.
just once phone reboot and stay stuck...
From here i can navigate but after reboot i'm still here.
I tried :
factory reset and recovery (with rom renamed PL80DIAG but would be too easy...)
RUU but RUU asked for bootloader so stuck on "waiting for bootloader"
go to htc dev to unlock bootloader but after flash unlock token ( unlock token check successfully) but : Nothing happens and still writtten ***Locked*** then if I "fastboot oem unlock" it says failed :<remote : loading custom splash failed>
fastboot flash boot.img but nothing works since still S-on and locked bootloader (superCID is out too)
flash custom recovey or even fresh stock recovery but nothing worked for the same reasons...
Do you guys have any idea of something i could do?
Thanks for your answer and forgive my English I'm French
As long as you are ***LOCKED*** you can quiet do nothing.
To use our available RUU you must also be unlocked & S-Off.
Somewhat the same situation
I am stuck here:

I can get into Fastboot as well as bootloader, I CANNOT GET INTO RECOVERY. I have tried to restore with the respective RUU files from the All things HTC ONE SV forum. I have also tried to flash the recovery boot and radio img files through fastboot usb. NONE of this has worked for me. I really enjoyed this phone before I went and made it all FUBR. If there is anyway to get it to boot to any recovery or rom, i will much appreciate it. Thanks for all your help from previous posts as well as any future help I get from information posted here.
Related to your hboot, you should be able to flash any recoveries, but i usually recommend this one.
What command do you use to flash recovery and do you get an output from "fastboot devices"?

Thanks a million for the replies. I was able to lead the recovery and get into it (the most progress i have had in a year with this phone). With that being done. When I go into recovery I am unable to mount the internal storage. I am not too sure of the procedures I need to go through to get this thing functional again. I have been tinkering with my S3 for the last few months, but with KNOX on now I am looking to Jump ship completely from both verizon and samsung. Enough rambling, Like I said thanks for the help, any assistance in getting this thing to boot to a ROM would be much appreciated.
BTW
I used the fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
I have tried this before with no success. This time it worked.
I also flased the Radio and Boot img for ICS.
Thanks.

If yes, use moonshine.io or rumrunner.us to get S-off.
Then we will do next steps.

Wow! Awsome! This bad boy booted. I was able to flash the rom through recovery. This is much further than I expected to get with this device. Now when I try to go S-Off with either moonshine or rumrunner I get an error saying not able to make adb connection. When I use fastboot devices my device will show up...if i do adb devices nothing...Would love to have S-Off and SU installed. But like I said this is much further than I expected to get so anything further is icing on the cake. Thanks in Advance.
Is Usb-Debugging enabled?

He can just use the Naked Driver for the adb driver. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2263822
Ok I DID have USB debugging enabled. After messing with the drivers and my Windows 8 computer, I have came to the conclusion that it is something with the drivers and their compatibility with Windows 8. Either way moonshine or rumnunner never worked for me in a windows 8 environment. I dual boot ubuntu 12.04 anyway, it saw my device just fine adb and fastboot. I ran moonshine and it went through all the testing stages, but was never able to completely run...so I still have no S-Off. Do I need to update Hboot or anything? Also am I able to load a custom rom on this device with S-ON? I have been looking but I do not see many out for this device at all, which is a shame because I feel as though it is very comparable to my GS3. It would be nice to see a nice AOSP ROM on this device. But all take any updates I can for the device, hopefully it will help with the issue I have will cell reception dropping all the time. Thanks
To answer some of your questions:
- you can't update hboot because you are not stock and not S-off
- there are indeed not much roms to flash, but you could do with S-on (and unlocked bootloader)
- if you would flash the Sense 5/Android 4.2.2 rom, you would have noizy sound, without the firmware files (which you need S-Off to flash)
Another way for getting S-off (which should work with your hboot), is facepalm.
But the part of changing CID to SuperCID is very risky, read carefully and only do, when you are sure you understand, what to do!!!

However, I searched the entire XDA webstie + 50 pages on Google + 50 pages on other country's android site, I cant find any working download URL. Can someone please upload one RUU or Zip file for me, so I can restore my phone please?
If your phone is bricked an RUU isn't going to save it. Either way, you'll find all Evita RUUs here:

The phone actually is soft brick, all I need to do is to flash it back to stock rom, so I can do a S-Off
I have this problem because I attempted to flash cyanogenmod without getting S-Off, thus it end up with black screen boot loop.
Any idea to solve it? I cant find any recovery zip that is working
I wouldn't ruu without S-off. Do you have supercid? If you do, you may brick. Best to boot to bootloader then recovery then flash a sense rom then s-off

There's no such thing as a soft brick, a phone is either bricked or it isn't. Do as exad suggested and flash a Sense ROM then get s-off, then update your firmware (which is probably what was your actual problem).

THat is another problem, there is no CID showed on the bootloader screen.
This is all happen after I get bootloader unlocked, and attempted to flash clockworkmod. It end up with boot loop with black screen, cant get into any system
What I can do right now is
1. boot into TWRP
2. Copy anyfile into phone through TWRP
3. flash zip through TWRP, but I cant find any rom that is working for my phone
4. fastboot usb with any command

The CID doesn't show on your bootloader screen unless you have s-off. What are your bootloader details? What recovery do you have installed? You can check your CID with this fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot oem readcid

The fact is you don't actually need s-off to flash cyanogenmod. You only need s-off to run the 3.18 RUU which updates your firmware, which you don't need to do because your firmware is fine. This brings me back to the other question you didn't answer: what recovery do you have installed?

I used the command
CID: BS_US001
My recovery is TWRP v2.6.3.0
THis is the only version that is working for me, I tried clockworkmod, and higher or lower version for TWRP, but I cant mount USB storage through any of those except 2.6.3.0
Recovery version please.

You just need to extract the boot.img from the rom you are flashing, put it in your adb/fastboot folder and then after flashing the rom.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then you will be able to boot it.
I suggest getting S-OFF using rumrunner so you don't need to take this step anymore. will also protect you in case you need to RUU.

I know what phone you have. an evita. Says so in your bootloader
You need unofficial 2.6.3 from original android dev. if you want to flash cm as you need SE Linux support.
Any sense rom should work on official twrp 2.6.3
make sure you wipe system cache and dalvik cache prior to flashing.
This is what you should do to rule out every issue.
Download unofficial 2.6.3
Check the Md5 of your download
put it in your fastboot folder
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery unnoficialrecoveryfilename.img
select recovery in bootloader
wipe cache, dalvik, system in wipe, advanced wipe
then do a factory reset for safe measure
flash your rom
wipe cache and dalvik
reboot to bootloader
extract the boot.img from the rom put it in your fastboot folder
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot

[Q] what to do?

i hboot 2.14 on my phone and then flashed cyanogenmod 11 latest update as of 23/6/2014 and then when i rebooted my phone it came on to the htc quietly brilliant screen then shut off and it keeps doing that. what can i do? i am writing on laptop because my phone wont turn on.
More information required, start with your bootloader details and recovery version. Also, you should probably read the Evita FAQ thread in my signature first because it'll most likely solve your problem.

here's what i did first. i plugged my phone in my laptop via usb then went and installed the drivers. after that i followed the instructions below to get hboot 2.14
OPTIONAL: Installing the Firmware (Warning: You MUST be S-OFF and Super CID to flash this! Flash at own risk!)
• Reboot to bootloader (adb reboot bootloader if "USB Debugging" is enabled in Android)
• Run: fastboot oem rebootRUU
• Run: fastboot flash zip <PathToFirmware.zip>
• If the output ends with "FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately)", run the previous command AGAIN
• If it ends with "INFO..... OK", reboot to the bootloader: fastboot reboot-bootloader
• Verify everything was successful by running: fastboot getvar all
It was successful (said ok) so i rebooted to bootloader fastboot reboot-bootloader then i rebooted my phone and it came as fas as the htc quietly brilliant screen then went blank and the usb thingy says that the drivers failed to install. i dont know what i did wrong. i read your FAQ but i didnt see what i was looking for (atleast i think i didnt see)

Do you mean you followed those instructions to update to the 2.15 firmware? You said 2.14 but i think you might be confused about that because no such instructions or firmware package exists for 2.14 firmware. Anyway, it didn't work because your firmware is not what it should be after following those directions. Go to my How-To Guide For Beginners thread and follow the instructions there if you still want to update your firmware.
Your original post said you got stuck after flashing CM, now you're saying you got stuck after attempting to flash firmware. Which is it? Also, you didn't answer which recovery version you have installed.

Yes I did flash 2.15. Now I have a problem where once my phone is on mobile data I keep getting 'u unfortunately the process Com.android phone has stopped. And my phone service goes off. The only time I don't see this message is when the phone is in airplane mode and if it's in airplane mode I can't receive texts and calla.
Idk if cm 11 is compatible with firmware 2.15. Maybe that's why.....?
That firmware is compatible with all current aosp ROMs. @cuteyr, did you perform a full wipe before flashing?

@timmaaa i actually did a factory reset before flashing it.
That doesn't answer the question though, a full wipe includes cache, dalvik cache, data (factory reset), and system.

You should always perform a full wipe when flashing a ROM, so yeah, I'd flash again and see if it helps.

TWRP's factory reset wipes all of those automatically, so it's best to use that one when flashing ROMs. The only times I get force closes are occasionally when restoring certain phone/messaging settings from different ROMs, and there is always the possibility of a bad download. If you get force closes after a clean flash then I'd suggest downloading a different ROM or version/nightly.
The factory reset option in TWRP doesn't wipe the system partition.

@timmaaa so I wiped my phone(cache, dalvik, factory reset) then flashed the firmware again then installed cm11 rom and after that was successful I turned my phone back on and I realized the message wasn't coming back on...that is until about two and a half hours later it ppopped up ' unfortunately the process Com.android.phone has stopped and it hasn't stopped once my phone is not on airplane mode. What to do? I'm in desperate need of help as my phone is my major way of doing all sorts of things
