So I had this issue with 4.4.2,.3, and now .4 radios. Sometimes when I switch from WIFI to LTE or from No Signal to 5 bars of LTE, data does not reconnect and I either have to wait or reboot the phone. Its extremely annoying. I am on Stock ROM rooted with Franco Kernel and currently on 4.4.3 with 4.4.4 radio. Anyone know whats going on?

Nope, I was and went back to stock voltage but it didn't fix anything
Also, I do get 3-5 bars of LTE in status bar but when I try to accessing internet I get nothing, be it in Chrome or any another app
well, its a known issue on the n5. it doesnt affect me much, as i reconnect to lte very fast and immediately have data. but, every once in a while, itll show me that im connected, but data stops flowing. at that point i turn on airplane mode, let it disconnect, then reenable it. data always starts flowing immediately after that.

i dont know. maybe they are aware and are working on it. but really, for me personally, it really doesnt create an issue. i turn on and off my airplane mode once/twice every week or two.

in feb or march, there was a few week period that it happened 3-4 times a day. thankfully it didnt go on. because of that, i assumed it was a tmobile issue, with them constantly upgrading their network in my area. but now i just dont know(lol).
It could be a tower issue. I have also seen weird things where it tries to connect and when I look at the actual field test app it shows it is on say LTE but reports in Android as searching for signal. A quick test shows the APN may be at fault. I know it sounds weird but for me on Cricket if I delete the APN LTE goes away. I put it back and LTE magically appears.
Also when I had Sprint I noticed there was a weirdness in that you could have an APN for EHRPD EVDO as a bearer or LTE as a bearer but not both it seemed so it would flawlessly connect to LTE but not EHRPD or vice versa.
If you know the APN is right then it may be a tower issue. Some towers may not broadcast LTE near you but ones slightly further away do so the phone may not connect right away.

Ok look at these pictures, it shows me that I'm connected to LTE, even though I have a bad signal yet I get no 4G icon and no data. I'm very confused because it was working fine but then just stopped, are my modem settings messed up? Because when have I have Rev. A. set to eHRPD I get nothing so I have it on Rev. A. To enable, and when I put radio to cdma(PRL) I at least get 3G, but no 4G when I'm set to LTE/evdo as you can see in the pics, even though it says I'm connected. So are my settings messed up in another way? I have tried restores different roms, and have even put on the new radio, no luck, I don't think its a faulty phone because it was working before and now it still shows it recognizes the LTE, but I get no 4G in the status bar, so I'm very confused, I really don't feel like unrooting just to get it replaced because I think I'm just missing some setting or something. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Turn airplane mode on, wait 3 minutes, turn it off, and you should be good to go. As 4G continues to roll out, there are bound to be bugs and hickups.
-95 signal strength is really weak. i wouldnt be surprised if it didnt register because the signal is so weak. i guess the bigger question would be why isnt it switching to 3g when the signal is so poor
I have a similar issue. My 4G icon will be visible and it will be working. I deliver pizzas so I leave the phone in my car tethered to my XOOM. When I get back to my car everything will look fine but my data wont be working. Sometimes if I try to go to a website on my phone within a minute or so it will recover, but I've been having to do the airplane mode thing. It works but still takes several minutes to get internet back. I'm in Las Vegas and 4G works just fine. I started having the problem recently. I think when BAMF went to the latest RUU base, the LTE/3G transition fixes seem to have had the opposite effect.

I installed the radio that came with das bamf 1.5, but i was still having issues before
I have tried both radios and I'm getting the same results. I'm sure something going with the network. We just have to be patient and give them time.
I have been going round and round with att on this issue. My infuse will bounce between hsdpa and umts signal every 30 seconds no matter where i am. They believed the issue was with the phone and replaced it issue still happening. Then advised that it was a network issue and opened a ticket with the "network department" who advised there were no issues in the area. They then removed and re added my data plan with the issue still occurring. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
It's normal to be connected UMTS. You will only get HSPA when you are actively streaming data up or down.

Is that issue causing data connectivity issues?? On my first Infuse it would show me with 3-5 bars of signal, but when I tried accessing data on apps like the Market, Facebook, or stock Web Browser it wouldn't connect and would give me an error instead. AT&T doesn't know why that was happening. They eventually told me to exchange my phone.
It is and i get the same error it says network unavailable. This is the second "4g" phone this is occurring on

Wow, I had the Atrix and that was happening to me with it as well. I don't remember if it went away after I updated the firmware on it, but I had other minor issues with it as well so I returned it and got the Infuse.
I've been trying out my 2nd Infuse and it seems that it doesn't have network connectivity issues like my prior Infuse, but I've noticed it does start acting up when I use the stock web browser. Maybe the whole issue is being caused by the browser!
I am taking mine back today it cant sit on HSPA+ for more then 30 seconds at a time and this is where a cell tower is almost next to my house and i can see it.

I've been streaming on Pandora for 2 or 3 hours without an issue. My network type switches between UMTS and HSDPA constantly, is that normal?
After working with tech support they feel it is an issue with the phone as it is not locking on to a tower signal. I was also informed that it not a common issue but has been seen with a few of the infuses sounds like a bad batch of phones may be floating around

Man that sucks!! I started having network issues with my 2nd Infuse last night. Today I tried searching the Market and it just kept loading till it eventually gave me an error! I guess Best Buy has the bad batch. What sucks is that the rep at Best Buy almost gave me a hard time when I told her I wanted to exchange it due to network issues.
Spoke to AT&T again and the rep told me that the update isn't for any network issues and that she hasn't heard of any problems with the Infuse so she advised me to either get another Infuse or return it and get some other phone.

Hello,
I'm a new android user and I got the Infuse today. After reading this thread, I tried to see if my Infuse was having the same problem. I noticed when I'm not using data, it goes in to UMTS. However, if I start browsing then it'll go to HSDPA, would this be considered normal or defective?

Not sure if that makes it defective but it happens on mine. Does it have issues loading websites?? Every once in a while when I search for something on google or enter another website my phone won't even load the site and when that happens I try an app that uses internet, Market or FB, and it won't load and finally give a connection error. AT&T doesn't know what causes it.

Congrats on getting the Infuse and moving to Android!
You're really lucky to start your Android experience with such a great device.
Switching from UMTS to HSDPA is totally normal. The battery would die very quickly if the radio had to maintain a constant HSDPA connection. The default is UMTS, and when transferring large amounts of data, the phone should automatically switch to HSDPA.

I haven't had that problem yet, but I've really mostly been using wifi to surf, but I guess I should stop so I can figure out if my device is defective. I'll let you know if I have any issues.
As an experiment, try downloading the app "Net Ping" from the market and set it up to ping every 3 seconds or so in the background. Now if you check your status, it should maintain a constant HSDPA connection.
Hmm...now I'm wondering just how quickly the battery will die? Time to find out.
I'll be surfing the web on my phone with LTE, but suddenly the past few days I've had an issue where it'd switch to HSPA+ and I can't connect. I'll have 2-4 bars of H+ yet I can't surf the web. if I turn airplane mode on and off, I'll get LTE again for a minute or so.
I have no issues making phone calls or texts, just surfing the web. My APN settings are correct for my carrier, and I just experienced this only the day before yesterday.
If it helps, I'm running CyanogenMod 11, everything else is stock such as the bootloader, radio, kernel. I'm not sure if it's a nightly rom issue, or what. LTE is strong in this area and i get 3-4 bars at all times. I didn't post this in the CM11 thread since I wasn't sure if it was rom related or not.
If you restart your phone does it work again? I had this issue running early ROMs sometimes.

If I restart the phone, I'll be able to use the phone for maybe half an hour or so, and suddenly it'll switch to HSPA+ and sit there trying to forever load a webpage. Eventually it'll tell me I'm not connected. If I refresh Google Now or any internet connected app, it'll tell me the same. 15 minutes later or so, LTE comes back on it's own, and randomly decides to go back to HSPA+.
I am going out on a limb to say it's a cm deal. Try a different ROM and flash the latest radio.

Does your data icon still appear or does it come and go when that happens?
My phone does that at my house because I have 3 towers with great signal and the dumb phone jumps back and forth all day so fast/much the 3G doesn't get to stay caught up so it drops and comes a lot.
Once all LTE shouldn't be an issue but I imagine your phone is either doing similar or jumping between LTE and 3G a lot maybe due to one being weak?
Try CDMA only mode for giggles too. (under more networks on settings).

I don't know what the problem was. I just uninstalled the Playstore update and ran it, which went through and connected alright. So far it's been working after that.
Today I'm getting the same "connection timed out" error again on Playstore. I don't know if it's just me or Playstore has issues?!

Is Playstore only spot you have issues?
If the connection is really slow this will happen too.
To eliminate it being Playstore just try WiFi.
I'd bet it's the data connection though. The question would just be the cause and why. Is it dropping or just slow and if dropping is just the area tower etc.

Yes, Playstore is the only one having connection issues. I did the same trick and got it back.
But, you're right, I think the connection at my work area is not the greatest. All the carriers get 4G/LTE in my cubicle, except for mine. I have yet to see anything other than 3G, but not losing hope.
My S3 died last week so I purchased a Nexus 5 and I've had nothing but issues with it since.
In 6 days it has dropped network about 10 times and just displays 'Emergency calls only' until I reboot it. It seems to be completely random.
Twice it has done it whilst streaming over 4g from YouTube, but it has also just done it whilst dormant overnight. I woke up the other day to find 'Emergency Calls Only' despite it being fine when I went to sleep.
After searching google I can now see that this seems to be a common issue with Nexus 5.
I'm seriously considering taking it back and getting something else, although I'd love to keep it if it works properly. Does anyone know the cause of the issue or have any workarounds? As I use the phone for out of hours calls for work, I can't afford to have it drop network whilst in my pocket and me not know about it...

OK so I tried re-inserting the sim but still dropping network. The weird thing is that it has done 3 times in the exact same location on my way to work whilst I've been streaming. It's as if it loses 4g signal in that location but then fails to switch to 3g and instead I get left with no network connection / no bars (empty triangle). It then fails to pick up the network again until I reboot (tried re-registering on network and airplane mode on/off).

OK so re-inserted sim and spoke to O2 who said settings are ok. However, it did it again this morning in the same location. That's 12 times in 8 days I've had the phone, 4 of those in the same location (give or take 100m).
I think I'll take the phone back before unlocking bootloader and trying a new radio, but any other suggestions before I do that ? Factory reset ?

I never had it with my S3 in 2 years, using the same route into work every day. I can't remember my S3 ever dropping network once....or if it did it picked up the network again automatically. Only difference was I wasn't on LTE with that.
It's not just that location though, it's happened 8 other times in other place nowhere near. I only made note of the same location because it's where I get off the tram coming into work. This morning I wasn't streaming or anything, it was just in my pocket, but I'd installed light flow to audibly alert me when it lost connection.

Yeah I've seen suggestions about changing to 3g, but that defeats the object of me having an LTE phone and paying for 4g service. Thanks, I think I'll take the phone back. My mate has an N5 and although he said he'd experienced it in the past, he hasn't since being on 4.4.3 / 4.4.4

OK so I've been and swapped my N5 for a new one...they also gave me a new sim. Fingers crossed !!
I guess I am too late to add anything but anyway here is what I did and may be of help. After pulling out the sim, use a pencil eraser and rub it across the contacts on the sim card. If the contacts somehow get too much oil residue from finger tips or other "impurities" on the contact, you will get incomplete contacting sometimes and it works other times. The eraser will clean those contacts up for a better dirt free connection. When I was a electronics tech in the hi tech field, I fixed many issues that were just contact problems and the eraser did the trick. I have had this same problem on my other phones (blackberries and androids) and it seemed to work.
