Hey guys I just got back from a 6 month deployment. And once I got back to the states I got the update icon on my phone. I am looking for a good ROM to flash and I have totally brain farted on how to make sure TWRP is up to date. I went to goo manager and it says everything is up to date.

Latest twrp is - https://www.dropbox.com/s/z1uaefffkfiwequ/TWRP-2.7.1.1-Hammerhead.zip just flash it in the twrp you currently have

Cool thanks worked. Now just need to decide what ROM to flash.

Thank you for your service. Don't use GooManager, it's unstable and causes many problems. TeamWin doesn't even recommend GooManager anymore. If you must use an app they recommend TWRP Manager.

so.. i bought my nexus s 4g today, it will be here in a little over a week. do you guys think we will have full root access and maybe a stock rom that we can tweak by then?
i assume clockwork will be the recovery we will need to use? sorta excited here.
all i need is a stock rooted rom and a custom kernel with sbc and ill take care of the themeing.
we also are going to need a cdma section on here for the nexus s.
Excited huh?
Assuming existing CWM recovery works, all you have to do to root is use fastboot to unlock bootloader and flash CWM recovery, then in CWM flash the SuperUser zip. That's it!
SBC is an HTC thing. You won't find it around here.
Get your Android SDK ready now, and you be rooted within 10 minutes of getting the phone!

actually i was hoping some new nexus s 2.3.4 owner might be able to tell me if gingerbreak.apk works on 2.3.4, because if that works then its perfect for people just looking for root...

like i said we will need a cdma section here for rooting & flashing the recovery/roms.
i hope we get some decent devs for the phone as well. i see netarch makes some kernels for gsm.
How did you order it already? ? I though it comes out the 8th.

I just picked up my Nexus S the other day and just rooted last night.
It installed SU but no recovery manager
I've downloaded CWM in the market and before I flash a recovery I have a few questions.
Are you guys using CWM or is there a better alternative like 4ext? I used 4ext when I had my Sensation and really liked it. Does it work on the Nexus S?
Thanks for the info

I rock CWR touch on my ns4g and it works great

I think almost all of us are using CWM. I didnt know there was a touch 1. That **** cray

Recently switched to TWRP, supports touchscreen just like CWM touch.
You can use Goo Manager which is similar to ROM Manager.
My favourite feature is zip queue, I can select many zips and flash them in one go.
Backup can be compressed as well.
TWRP has many other features, highly recommend to try and explore those features.
Here are the flashable JB kernels.

I flashed the June 28 kernel & it bricked my N7. I'm unable to get back into recovery mode to flash a backup. Any advise?

Plug your Nexus 7 into a computer and then press the power and both volume buttons at the same time. Then you can boot into recovery.

I tried that. I can get into fastboot no problem. I'm running pre released windows 8. Could that be the problem as to why I can't get into recovery?

It's not a problem of the op kernel or win8 but know issue that some Nexus 7 unmount recovery. There's a specific thread for solve this....but in my case don't work
Inviato dal mio Galaxy Nexus con Tapatalk 2
I also had an issue with the 28 June kernal. Wouldn't go past boot screen or load into recovery. Could still access fastboot though.
/remember that nandroids are your friends
I was able to boot into recovery using the N7 toolkit. The problem then was I had to use the toolkit to force it to boot into android. I tried flashing Trinity's and Franco's kernel but it would not flash via TWRP or CWM.
Ended up having to flash the stock image to get my tablet working right. As per another post having a similar issue I would stay away from the June 28 kernel.
The older kernel also put my Nexus in a bootloop
Ah well better reflash
So does any of these kernels work or only put the n7 in boot loop? BTW what's the difference between the two?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
ones newer than the other, by the looks of it both bootloop the device :/
really regretting not backing up before doing it
edit: I reflashed the boot.img (extracted it from my ROM) and all is good now. Gonna do a titanium backup just to make sure incase it's unstable
Wow I really wish I had read this thread before flashing. Just bricked my device
so i have been relying on goo manager to update twrp but since now it's gone im not sure what to use now, is there like a safest clean easy way to update?
fastboot
Flashify
TWRP manager maybe?

this should really be the only answer, but at least the others are decent.
Just flash this in your current recovery - https://www.dropbox.com/s/z1uaefffkfiwequ/TWRP-2.7.1.1-Hammerhead.zip

I am curious to what everyone is actually using? Since if I remember correctly, the official TWRP is buggy.
I have been using Captain_Throwback's TWRP lately.
Was using official twrp but got replacement device, now waiting for the unveiling of Shunshine.apk 3.0 Blows being to totally stock, first time ever
I had no issues with twrp
