Hi all!
Browsing on the internet, I found that camera quality is better on stock rom than CM11 probably due to "generic" camera drivers instead of proprietary ones. A lack of drivers seems to be the cause of failure of the radio too.
Well, I know that is possible to extract and flash samsung kernel image from original rom, but i was wondering if it would work on CM11.
I don't know very much about this "low level" stuff, is there anyone that could explain me if flashing original samsung kernel on CM11 would work/not work and what kind of problems could it cause?
Thank you in advance!

since there are two separate versions of any kernel, AOSP and TouchWiz, I don't think they're interchangeable. stock kernel wont work on AOSP (CM and such) and AOSP kernel wont work on TouchWiz.

I am building an aosp ROM for the galaxy player 5.0 as an independent study at my school. I have the stock kernel for it that I extracted out of an odin image and I was wondering, do I have to build aosp around the kernel because I heard aosp kernels aren't good with the drivers and I need every function to work. I have found many tutorials for aosp and I am not going to use Googles since I can't understand that as much as other ones on the internet. Can someone enlighten me on the subject so I'm not going to fail, its due by january and I am still on the fence about whether I can do this. I just need some guidance and not to have somebody do it for me.
So, Since the Cyanogenmod source is so big (I heard that it has 19GB), people like us who have gay as slow internet have no chance of even trying to cook a ROM for our unsupported devices.
Since I can't download the whole CM source and I see awesome ROM's out there, I Ported one ROM called Cyanfox (which was made for Samsung S2 i9100) to Samsung Infuse 4G using Beanstalk ROM as a base. I followed a guide which asks me to replace some folders and edit some files. It was walking fine. Then came an update to both the ROMs, Thinking that cince it is a update, it will have the updated apps and source, I tried porting them again but this time Beanstalk updated ROM as a base cause a bootloop while the Beanstalk old ROM works fine as a Base ROM.
Now what I don't get is, why is Beanstalk new ROM not working as a base? (Since the new Beanstalk ROM will have updated Source, I want to use that ROM as my base.)
And the second question is, what files does actually matter when you are Porting or cooking an Android ROM? (I mean like windows works on all kind of PC's all it needs is the drivers right? The drivers actually matter on windows)
And the 3rd question is can I update the source files somehow without downloading the whole 19GB CM source and if possible how?
The 4rth is, I heard from somewhere that boot.img is the file which separates the phones? Then why can't we just port ROM's by replacing boot.img since these two phone's are from the same vendor and it has likely specs. (Which is not possible I think)
I am really really a newbie to this thingies, I just wanted to clear out these things. Sorry for my noobness.
Thanks!
I am new to installing new roms on phones and I am wondering when you install a new rom for example on a sony z3 or samsung note 4 does it affect the great camera performances of the phones since the companies have their own ways of camera processing? I really need the feedback before I start installing new roms Thanks everybody
Hi there,
Those issues mainly depends on the developers of the roms you are flashing!
If you're installing a stock based rom, then your camera should be fine! But if you're flashing an CM/AOSP based rom, your camera might have glitches here and there.
About what device are you talking about?
Thanks
Are there any roms, at all, that will bump the OS on this? nothing works anymore (netlix, pandora, etc) due to fact that I'm stuck on 4.0,4 and would love to see some type of AOSP minimalist if possible.
Can gt-p51xx be flashed without issues (other than no GSM capabilities)
would someone be so kind to point me somewhere i can get some information about this?
My device: SGH-T779
I've gotten as far as root.
Different hardware, don't try P31xx or P51xx ROMs or kernel, this would brick your device.
Afaik there have never been a lot development for your variant, depends on those who own such a device to have custom ROM support or not.
i just want to say thanks for making it easier to find roms for my tab 2 10.1 (P5100)
this link was a life saver http://andi34.github.io/
do you have a suggestion on which rom is more stability wise. ones again thank you soo much
Been trying to figure out a way to get RAW image support back without having to deal with broken apps and the playstore thinking my phone is incompatible with half the apps I use, and I can't find anything at all. Any advice would be appreciated.
Since Jgcaap rom nothing has appeared, everyone uses sultans blobs/cam...i would add long exposure to the "list" aswell.

Thanks for your response and for the links.
Apologies for my ignorance on this matter, I'm basically clueless when it comes to android ROMs. In the jgcaap thread, many users are discussing how a particular build has vastly superior camera quality but lacks security patches. What would your advice be if for someone who only cares about app compatibility and camera quality? Is there a specific build of jgcaaps I should look for?
Hi everyone has a different opinion, i think you should try the roms and decide for yourself. I use Jgcaap rom, i dont panic about the security issues... its a phone, of all the apps i use only one doesnt work with it, i think if you change the device firgerprint id with magisk all the apps will show up but i havent test it. Good Luck
