Gear 2 and Android wear? Lets Speculate! - Samsung Gear 2

Stories are floating around about Samsung's involvement with Google's Wear project. Also there are stories of Samsung having a Google Wear device. Anyways If the reason Samsung pushed their Tizen OS to the Gear 2 was to improve performance and battery performance. It begs the question to me if Google Wear becomes a reliable OS that Samsung might eventually push Google Wear over to its Gear 2 like it did with the Galaxy Gear and Tizen. This of course is pure speculation by me. I think it has a slim chance of happening but it it does that could be interesting since next week i receive my Gear 2. If not official i could definitely see the community porting Wear 2 the Gear 2 in the next year or so. I mean we are all aware that the Gear 1 ran on android so its not like the architecture is completely different. In fact they use the same CPU.
Lets all speculate together below XD.

Actually it's very possible for samsung to simply update the Google Wear OS and use it as a Major Update on the Gear 2
Like what they did on the Gear 1 which can use tizen

Yes well I mean to me it would make since in a stand point of wanting to get previous consumers better ready for a Google Wear Samsung watch that may come out possibly in the coming future. Who knows.

I'll be pretty mad if they come out with an Android Wear watch after I just bought this Gear 2. In fact, i'll sell the Gear.

I don't see Sammy abandoning Tizen after they have spent so much money on developing it and trying to release phones with the OS on it. I think they will have a watch for Android ware but i don't think it will be more then what gear and gear 2 is. It will be more like the gear fit and I could see them porting AW to gear fit.

If they did that, it would need the mic and speaker to support Android Wear - which is the reason I went with the Neo originally instead of the Fit, it didn't have the mic. That would actually be pretty awesome if they did that as I could get one for my wife as she liked the Fit's style and form factor but not the fact that they gimped it by taking out the mic and speaker.

Well i feel that Tizen on the gear2 was more of a porting and custom optimization move on their part. Its like hey since we already have all the resources for our new OS lets tweak it for the gear so it can turn a few more heads until we decide what wear might be like in the consumer environment. You have to understand that the original Gear was under alot of bad reviews for battery life. From a business stand point it might just be more cost efficient and smarter to port what you built in house and wait for the best alternative to surface. Especially if your a close partner to a OS that your working maybe months or years before it was announced.

I think samsung. Although a very intelligent design and coding company. Are trying to dig and to fill to many holes. I personally think they should have kept android for the gear and tizen for the cameras. Leaving the tv blue ray etc on standard linux . They would have sold a lot more gear 2 on the android os. And with the development community feedback would have eventually have mastered the battery drain and glitches. I mean i have a gear 1 and 2. And with undervolting on the gear 1 with the null custom rom . It makes my gear 2 like antique
Anyone agree

Even of they don't release wear for the gear. The highly skilled developers here on xda. Would soon make it happen. Look at sense. Ported to a samsung device. Took a while. Trial error and user feedback. But it happened.
Patience and determination a phrase I like to use. Anythings possible

I don't believe that samsung will stick to Tizen... Although is a good OS, no others brand will use it and I think samsung will keep his "apple policy" and galaxy gear will never connect to non samsung phones out of the factory!
I think that unhappily will happen to tizen the same that happen to BADA OS... It borned fated to die!

I just boght that too... pretty mad

There is no reason to be mad! You just bought the best smart watch that exist! I doubt that we will see a lot of android wear watches with the capability of taking photos and use as a phone to make calls!
And it is amazing beautiful!!! I saw two colleagues who has one and they bought a silver wrist and it looks even more amazing!

Well, i guess i was wrong. Anyone see the home key on the side like the original gear had? I wonder if they are going to abandon Tizen now.... the also means less dev will work on apps for tizen now as well.

Yeah screw gear live it's looks like an gear neo just running android wear. I'm sorry but I like my camera on my gear 2 and android wear don't impress me.in time we will see now if they update gear 2 to android wear and it supports the camera fine but to buy a whole new watch samsung is smart.

from my experience using a Galaxy Note 2 Galaxy Note 5 or galaxy s6 a galaxy s6 edge, a galaxy s5, a galaxy s4, and even a galaxy s3 connected to both my galaxy gear s and my gear s2 the only one I've had issues with is samsung galaxy note 5 & I think it's kind of hilarious seen as how it has 4 gigs of ram and an octocore processor, that being said the few differences I have noticed in the functionality of the gear when using different Galaxy devices is minimally changed. The apps that will not work are generally not phenomenal apps. And they are usually not updated anyway. In theory if you got an s4 versus any other galaxy device with one and a half gigs of RAM will probably have the same basic usability. I hope this help. I guess to shorten it down if you're trying to save some money. The Galaxy s4 will probably do you just fine. If you want to be 100% sure you have absolutely no issues at all you want the best bang for your buck get an S5. It's almost the perfect device for the gear.

thank you for your answer, this is exactly what I wanted to know. I think eventually I'll get a s4 because I will use it as a second phone only for the gear and little else and buy a s5 only for this seems like a waste ...my phone will remain the main iphone 6 with which I am comfortable in the hope that soon will also be released the app for ios... then there is to say that here in Italy, for what it costs to buy a samsung, to have 4 GB of RAM I was watching the new OnePlus 2 (the same price of the galaxy s4 ......) but in that case lose apps made just for samsung .. shame ..

Should work, it's advertised that it will work on non galaxy phones. Even Samsung pay the first 5 times will supposedly work, after that it must be connected with a galaxy phone. As long as you don't care about Samsung specifics you should be fine. But I think in order for LTE to work it needs to be synced with a galaxy as well when it's first turned on. Someone with a gear s2 may be able to clarify that.

On Samsung's website it says the Frontier LTE will be able to download apps independent of the phone. It seems like they should be able to make Samsung Pay work independently also.

It will work independently for the first 5 times, after that it must be paired to a galaxy via Bluetooth to work. That's what the website states.
It's just speculation, but there's hope.

From Android Wear To Tizen in 2017

Good Morning Everybody,
So I am now rocking an Asus Zenwatch 3 and since the Android Wear 2.0 update is not coming, I am trying to get myself a new smartwatch.
I am thinking either to buy the Gear S3 or to stay on Android Wear 2.0 and going for the Huawei Watch 2 Classic or LG Watch Style.
My phone is not a Samsung and I don't intend in getting one soon, I currently have the Google Pixel XL and in a couple of days switching to the Blackberry Keyone.
Question, is this watch worthed and useful?
Does it work well with a non Samsung Device?
How's Tizen compare to Android Wear?
Thanks
The whole functionality you'll only get with a Samsung phone from 4.3/4.4. (Samsung Store/Pay, watch updates and so on often failes on different android-phones)
Some Android-phones are completely not supported (not only because of root and custom roms..), like my Mediapad X2...

https://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s3/themes/how-to-gear-s3-unsupporteted-android-t3521532
(AndroidWear is working fine on my phone, without any limitations, also 2.0 update with my Huawei Watch 1)
I switched from using an LG to a Samsung phone with the S3.There was very little additional functionality gained. Here's a chart that compares all the features across Samsung, Android, and iOS devices.
https://www.sammobile.com/2017/01/1...res-that-are-missing-from-the-gear-s3-on-ios/
Thank you guys
Well, I'm using it with the Blackberry Priv and I don't have any issues at all. It is connected via Bluetooth. I logs my walks, hikes and bike rides and I can view the info on the watch or in the S-health app on the Priv. I can update or install apps and watch faces from the Priv. I have been using S-pay which I still find weirdly fun to do!!!! But the Priv still runs Marshmallow. I don't know any details but there are or may be issues with Nougat on some aspects of the Gear S3 (others can let you know if S-pay works).
I'm also active on the Crackberry forum and there have been a few discussions of the Gear S3 there. There's also a Keyone thread and maybe you could ask for info.

I'm using the S3 with a Moto G4 and everything works with no restrictions. Don't feel like you need a Samsung phone to use all the features.

What does the comment help all those who do not have all the functions with his android phone?
Or what is the general benefit of this observation?
Additionally, the thread creator has no Moto G4 -
if I am not wrong
I have been using Samsung Galaxy Note 5 as the carrier with earlier a Gear S2 and now Gear S3 Frontier (and Moto 360 prior to the Gear watches), and absolutely love my S3.
The key aspects of the watch which I find very useful - The rotating dial and unique interface, excellent battery, nice in built S-Health, Samsung-Pay, etc should work with all Android phones. With Gear app and S-Health app available in Google App-store, anyone with an Android phone can install them and make use of them.
The other features I also like very much is ability to sync all messages and email on the S3 itself since I use the Samsung native messaging and email app on my Note5. This I believe will be the only things not available with other Android devices.
Overall - The message/email syncing, S-Pay from wrist, decent stock health tracking app, very intuitive and nice interface with rotating bezel, and extremely competitive battery life (I get 4 days with Always on Display off) has made me absolutely adore the S3.

Android Wear 2.0 on Gear Sport

Is there already a way to run Android Wear 2.0 instead of Tizen on my Gear Sport?
Then maybe you bought wrong device?
SM-R600 is since few days/weeks on market available... with funtastic Tizen 3.0.0.1...
With creme de la creme Development from Samsung R&D...
Tizen 3 only need 5 years to pop out in real market...
Btw... is obsolete as Tizen 5 ehm 4 is now "in" in Samsung R&D...
Gear S2 NO success yet:

Gear S3 less progress:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s3/how-to/gear-s3-android-wear-port-wip-t3584588
But feel free to find your own way... for SM-R600.
Firmware for study is for instance here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-sport/help/sm-r600-firmware-odin-repair-study-t3688495
Similar problem like we know from SM-R760/SM-R770...
ROOT access and/or bypass of Security AGAINST Firmware modification...
And for sure...
Samsung increased Security in Tizen 3 crap...
My opinion...
Best Regards
Hey, thank you! No I didn't bought the wrong device. There's only no one with Android Wear 2.0 which is nearly as good as the Gear Sport and.
But I hate the App Store of Tizen and S-Health. So I asked me if it is possible to run Android Wear 2.0 on the Gear Sport. But it seems a bit tricky and long work.
Is there any other Option to run Apps from Play Store on Tizen with my Gear Sport?

No, you cannot run Android apps on a non-Android device, there are zero options unfortunately. But if you got Android on it, you would be missing out on the watch spinning dial, and with such a small screen on the sport, I couldn't imagine going touchscreen-only.

I think you may be mistaken.
I have a Samsung Gear 2 Neo, running Android Wear 1.5. The Neo originally came running on Tizen.
I have a Fossil Explorist with a stem that turns, scrolling through items on the display.
Whose to say there will not be a developer that creates a way to install Wear OS onto the Gear Sport, utilizing the spinning bezel to scroll?
This is what xda is all about.
Can something not be worked based on the previously provided OneUI by Samsung which was based on Android 9? Willing to test any advances on my gear sport.

I'm pretty sure Samsung would have to fire all of their ****ty Gear Tizen engineers, overhaul Tizen wear, and also fire all of their support and hire people who aren't complete idiots, and Samsung start caring about their devices outside of the selling part before I will EVER buy another Samsung watch or phone. This S3 has been the WORST experience I've ever had with any electronics ever lol... And at $350... Their support can kick rocks too. Holy. Sheet. Yeah, I'm SUPER excited to see the new Android wear watches, cause I'm absolutely getting rid of this piece and getting one as soon as they come out.
Do yourselves a favor and get something other than Samsung when you can. Seriously. This BS with botched software updates that break/brick/whatever your watch, and the horrible support will never end. Once you hand over your money for anything that says Samsung, they don't care about it or you anymore. Run
someones an angry little elf. sorry i couldn't help myself. i agree that there are a few things lacking with this watch but i just picked up a refurb one and have been loving it so far.
I hope SM-R8xx will have more eMMC and RAM...
I hope it is not again same Chip...
Like Gear S3 and SM-R600 have... Exynos 7270
Not sure if Display Resolution will be increased...
I think not... will be on 360 x 360 Pixel
If really Tizen 4...
Hopefully not k.striert again...
So maybe dotNet enabled...
