[Completed] Samsung Galaxy S5 Problem - XDA Assist

Hi,
I have a problem with my S5 and I was wondering if I could find any help in this forum. Excuse me for my English and if I am not posting in the correct section, is my first time in the forum.
I live in Lima, Peru and I recently bought an Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S5 model G900W8 from GSM Nation in the USA.
I choose this version of the S5 since it was unlocked for the bands in which my operator (Claro) works here in Peru (2G: 1900Mhz, 3G:850Mhz and 4G: 1900Mhz (Band 2)).
When the phone arrived, I just changed my microSIM card from my old phone to the S5 and it worked without any problem, I was able to make calls and navigate normally. But since my plan was only a 3G plan (since my old phone didn't support 4G) I decided to upgrade to a 4G plan. I went to make the change and my carrier informed I also needed a new microSIM to use a 4G plan, and I did so. But when I plugged in the new microSIM the phone it doesn't work. It shows the message "Emergency calls only" and when I try to call it shows "Not registered on network". I called my carrier for support and they said they have already made the change and activated the new microSIM and that they can't give me any further support since they only sell the Galaxy S5 G900M with their plans.
I don't know what is causing this problem, but I think it must be something related to my carrier that is blocking my phone to access their network but only with the 4G plan and microSIM.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi there!
If I had to guess, I'd say its 1 of 3 things,
1. An account problem with your carrier.
2. Your APN setting for the new 4g network are not right or missing. You'd have to find out from your carrier what they should be.
3. Simply a bad sim card.
All of those need to be discussed with your carrier though.
However, feel free to ask in the S5 Questions and Answers section. Perhaps someone there can offer other ideas.

[Q] Need Advice on Switching Phone to Different Carrier

Hi Everyone!
I am still new to the Android phones and need some help. I have a Samsung Galaxy phone that I bought from T-mobile. I want to switch carriers to a different cell phone provider, but have been told that it can't be done. Is there a reason for this, or a way to switch providers with this phone? I would appreciate all help and advice, as I am completely lost. Thank you for your time!
Need more information about the phone. Give us the model. Is this Galaxy S II, Galaxy S?
I would check the phone's specs. Usually T-Mobile phones have 1700MHz 3G only so the phone can't be used on other 3G network.
This doesn't mean you can't use it on other 2G networks.
Give us the phone model and network you want to switch to.
In the states each of the carrier uses networks that are not compatible with each other. (And i mean pop out a sim card and put it in without flashing new radios and such)
This is only really a problem in the US as others in the majority of the world have standards among their carriers so all their phones are interchangeable
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Samsung Galaxy S i9000 on Telus 4G LTE SIM?

I picked up a used Samsung Galaxy S i9000 that was on Virgin (CDMA?). I rooted it, and put JB on it. From another device, I have a Telus data plan that is on 4G. Looking at the i9000 specs, it says it supports GSM and 3G. This where I get confused. The Telus plan I am on is 4G LTE (data). Does this mean that this Sim could fall back to 3G if I use it in my Samsung? I have ran a number of unlock tools (including the Samsung Galaxy S Unlocker) and think that my phone is unlocked, but the radio shows that there is no connection. When I ran the unlocker, it completes but does not say "its done". I can see that I now have the correct APN setting for Telus. The phone sees my SIM and my phone #. And I have the nv_data.bin file ( was not there before running the unlocker). When I look at the phone details, it sees my SIM, knows my phone number etc. It just won't connect. It also has the correct APN settings. If I try to dial a number or use the data, it does not work. Wondering if there are other settings I am missing?
I think the issue is that the sim only runs on Telus 4G and does not fall back to 3G (what the phone is capable of), but again, this is where I am green. I don't know how this works. Does the phone 'ask' the Sim to fall back, or does the network and Sim dictate to the phone what network it will use?
Area of coverage: Burlington Ontario (GTA). Sorry if this has been discussed, but my search terms did not find anything.
Wrong forum, Samsung S i9000 does not equal Samsung Galaxy S 4G (aka T959V or T959W).
My bad. Sorry about that.

[Q] Only have T-Mobile Can't find ATT

---moved my original post to here.

Need help on at&t network.
Recently i purchased one dual-core/dual-sim cellphone by one Chinese manufacture. It's claiming 4-band GSM, 850/900/1800/1900.
But when i insert att sim card, it always has 'Emergency calls only'. While with T-mobile sim card, it can be connect to T-mobile quickly.
As i know, TMB has 2G 1900 coverage, so as At&t. So i assume that this is not frequency issue. And i am pretty sure that this cellphone does have any 'lock' problem since all phone in China doesn't lock.
It took me a few days searching the solution but no luck. Network operators is grayed out when with att sim card.
This is what i'v tested:
-ATT, H2O prepaid card, no help.
-Changed the APN, no help
Then i go further, modified 'BP' firmware, like changing QCN (it's Qualcomm chipset) item 1877 according to this post, http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1521355&page=7.
But still no att.
So i am just looking for help from xda. for now, i can't tell what's the issue is.
I can provide more info if someone has some thought.

GSM + CDMA with phone feature for use with VZW

I could not find a definitive answer to this anywhere. I would like to purchase a NON-US variant of the Samsung galaxy tab with phone feature enabled, for use with VZW US.
I am currently in Taiwan and they have the phone enabled devices here but I am unsure if there is a model which will have CDMA+GSM OR IF IT IS EVEN COMPATIBLE ON VERIZONS NETWORK.
Taiwan does have CDMA. I believe it is 800 and VZW in the US is 800/1900.
I will also be visiting japan as well, so if there is a galaxy tab phone there that will work on the us verizon network I'd pick that up.
This should really be as simple as finding a model that supports both GSM and CDMA and just inserting the 4G LTE SIM card into it when I am back in the states.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Hello, and thank you for using XDA Assist!
The 920i is the international model, and thus misses Band 4 (1700mHz) which is used by the USA GSM operators (AT&T, T-Mo, MetroPCS, et cetera). This means you won't get 4G LTE with this device.
Also, if trying with T-Mobile, they alos use 1700mHz for HSPA (3G), a frequency your device does not have either. So unless T-Mo still supports 2G (I remember a planned phasing of that out at some point), your device will not work with their network.
AT&T on the other hand, uses 3G 850/1900 frequencies, so you should be okay.
At any rate, I could be optimistically wrong. So, please create an account, so you cna post in other forums, then either post in the above linked thread, or in the S6 general help thread:

Hope this helps, and good luck!
