Nexus 5 won't take charge - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone
My nexus 5 won't charge. That is, it says it's charging, but sits at 0% and won't budge. I've tried 4 different USB cables with the stock charger and the Nexus 7 2012 charger.
I'm running stock 4.3.3 with towel root and SuperSU from the play store. I was using the phone normally today when all of a sudden it switched off. It didn't say "powering off", it just went black. I probably had about 12% battery left at this point.
I plugged it into the stock charger and USB cable and the notification light started flashing red. I left it like that for about 5 minutes, booted into the bootloader and reset the phone, after which it seemed to be charging. However the percentage just dropped from 12% to 0% in about half an hour - despite being "charging" and the phone being left alone apart for some minor WhatsApp-ing.
Anyone experience anything similar or have a solution?
Thanks!

Switch off the device completely and put it on a wall charger for an hour or so and then boot it up and see if it has charged or not?

[WARNING] CWM 4.0.1.5 battery dont charge while phone is power off (for some people)

hello
just to say that with ClockworkMod 4.0.1.5 the phone dont charge the battery when is power off.
thanks
EDIT:
tried to charge with phone off, and work. (with some energy on battery)
but i did had the problem, because i drain the battery to ZERO, and with ZERO battery couldn't charge
Mine does. I did it last night. I drained my new battery dry. And charged it last night with power off because I couldnt even turn it on the battery was so dead. Woke up this morning to a fully charged battery.
My phone does it too.
Same here, mines fine
Keep fastboot checked!!!
+4 works fine here.
OP, please change the title of your thread to "doesn't work for ME (or some people)" as it is misleading.

Defeats the point of wanting to turn the phone off. I prefer to turn it off when I tell it to! Having said that, I never turn my phone off so isn't an issue
+5, works for me too.
didnt work for me...
I drained my battery completely, when I plug it in, the led flashing 11 times last 3 flashes are slow then goes dark.
put it 8h on wall charger, and didnt work...
i had to use this --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198585
This just happened to me. Kept blinking heaps. So unplugged phone, boot it and instantly plugged in charger and worked after.

I just had my phone at 73% and powered it off and even booted into HBOOT to make sure it was off then pulled the battery. Plugged it in and the orange light came on and stayed on for a bit. I then pulled it after about 10 minutes and powered up the phone, and I was up to 84%
Why do so many people insist on charging the phone while its off? I've never understood this.I have had many devices and have NEVER powered them off to charge, never had to replace any batteries either?

I think its because it charges faster when its off. (idk it could be placebo ) I only charge mine when it is off when it dies. So is it safe to say that the issue is fixed ?

Yeah. I think it does charges but then theres no light. and you can't turn it on while it's plugged in ):
I've never let my battery die tbh, Always carry a 10cm micro usb lead with me as i always have access to a usb port
I did last night on purpose because I am testing an after market battery.
I let my battery died completely last night. When i charge it, it just blink like 5 times, and stopped. So i took off the battery and use a different charger to charge it. The orange light turned on for like 5 sec and disappeared. I thought it just need a little charge. I left the charge overnight. I tried to turn on the phone when i woke up, but it didnt work. I took the cable off, then take out battery and pput it back in. And the phone turns on and fully charged. So I guess the phone does charge, but the indicator light is not just working.

G2x won't charge

I plugged my phone in after its been sitting for almost a year and it wouldn't charge. Took battery back out and put it n a wall charger batter charged. Put it in the phone and it powered on so I plugged it into USB to wall charger that came with my galaxy s 2 and it said it was charging... Walked away for a while when I picked it back up it said 1% then turned off.
Is it the rom ??
Also I have issues turning it on sometimes. It's like the power button does not always work, but once the phone is on the button works to wake phone up and turn off screen every time.
It may be a battery issue. Try a new battery.

as he say it is most likely the battery

I'm having the same issue. I think it may be the charge port also because I think mine is going on me. I put it on the charge and walk away and check back on it and it wasn't charging. I went into CWM and cleared the batter stats and its working so far but I'm not sure for how long.

Like the guys said the battery gone bad, you may try diffent ROM just to make sure if its the batt.

Phone won't recognise charger

This is a strange one. When I connect USB to my computer the device shows up, I also get the option for USB tethering on the phone... however it does not indicate that it is charging. The charger works in other phones and I've even tried using a proper charger (i.e. not a usb cable).
Now the thing is, I'm not sure if it's not charging. When I turn the phone on I have 11% battery and get a notification about it and told to plug in a charger, and when I plug it in the message does not come back - although the battery % stays on 11.
Are the Motorola USB drivers installed?

They are installed on my PC yes, although I don't see what that has to do with it?
I'm asking the stupid questions first, lol...
Which USB ports are you using, try connecting to a port on the motherboard (proper +5V) if not?
I have the same problem with a nokia lumia 920 charger, the charger works in others phones and some time before works in my phone too

Like I said, I've tried using a direct mains charger too. The USB connection from phone to computer is fine as I can transfer files etc. It just won't charge regardless of what cable I use.
That said though, the battery has been on 11% for a long time. Makes me think that it has actually been charging (or else it would have decreased/died) and it's just the reading that is stuck? I've tried switching to icon mode then % but it's still on 11. Is there a way to recalibrate it? The phone is barely a month old so it's surely not a hardware issue.

When I got mine the battery hung on 31% for ages then dropped to 0% and rebooted. Since then I cycled it through a few times without connecting the charger until it was flat and then charged it to max and left it for a few hours at least. It came good after that and I've had no problems. According to Motorola to recalibrate the battery state it should be left for charge once fully charged for a few hours extra.
I've had mine for a few weeks.
It doesn't seem to change either side of 11% whether I charge it or not. I guess I'll just have to plug it in for a few hours and assume it's fully charged?
It took me ~4 and 1/2 hours to charge it fully using the 500mAh Moto charger from 0%, but I did it the other way around--I used it till it was flat first.

When you go to Settings > Battery, it is supposed to tell you whether it's charging.

It actually says charging now, but it continues to say that even when I remove the charger.
Also my battery has finally dropped from 11% to 10%, that is after around 7 hours use...

That's very peculiar... It might indicate something wrong at the firmware level. You are running the standard ROM, are you?
I'd advise to jump some factory resets / firmware (re)install hoops.
I'm running Beanstalk ROM but the creator is already getting very cranky with me for suggesting it might be a bug in that
Unless you can reproduce the behaviour with the stock firmware, Beanstalk is the prime suspect.
But it could be a file/driver corruption, hence the suggestion to reinstall.
Same problem with XT1033 on Stock 4.4 ROM
on stock 4.4 ROM same problem i am facing, even after 1-2 hours charging its showing same % of battery.
but after a restart its coming to normal condition & shows charging icon.
I charged my phone last night (still on 10%), brought it out with me and during use it cut out and would not turn on. I kept trying to turn on by either pressing power on or pressing power & vol down. A couple of times I got to the bootloader but that was it. When I got home I plugged it into a charger and it came up with a white screen with an empty battery graphic.
Now my phone will not turn on no matter what I do, even when plugged in.

Phone showing 0% battery and 0mv

My Nexus 5 is showing 0% battery life and 0mv.
I have charged the phone over night to make sure it was fully charged, but even though it shows 0 percentage. Also does it not turn after XX hours.
Further have i tried deleting the batterystats.bin and did a full factory reset.
Is it possible that someone could help me on this issue?
Kind regards,
C4D3R
How old is the battery? When did this happen? Was the phone dropped?
Hi, thank you for your reply
The phone was not dropped, and it was just replaced
not charging
Having the same problem. OEM charger not charging the battery currently (just red light of death), swapped cables etc.
Nothing have worked for me so far, i've left it once for a few days to charge it charged up to 30% but started discharging after that
I'm wondering should i send the phone to LG to let them exchange the battery or its the charger, my lumia 720 charges in like 30mins-1h under all chargers 1.0-1.4A from Nokia, OEM Nexus 5 one and even Huawei but the nexus doesnt care about that
Any help would be appreciated
Are the batteries oem or third party? If third party, that could be the problem.
I have used cheap third party batteries from aliexpress and never experience this problem on the nexus 4 or nexus 5.
I am using a genuine OEM battery, Replaced by the repair center. I have also unscrewed it myself to verify this.
The phone is charging and turning on, however the percentage weirdly doesnt update like its not showing data from the battery (0%, 0mv or unknown in battery testing apps)
I just got my new OEM battery, first up it booted up and it showed 60% then suddenly turned off so i went to the recovery and it said 9%, now its under a charger but i don't think it will help it. Something is really strange with my Phone and im wondering if its the radio/any other software issue or its pure hardware if yes i just wasted even more money on trying to save my Nexus 5..
edit:
after 5 minutes under charger TWRP says its 15%+ wtf is going on?
edit2:
now the red light of death dissapears after few blinks and the phone acts *ded*, it "charges" the old battery but takes a lot of time but changing chargers/cables didnt make a difference
Is it possible that solders on my USB connection are just broken or something? it reads fine as usb but when it comes to charging with AC it takes forever/discharges under a charger :/
I just flashed an android 7 rom on to it, but now it stayed at 100% and keeps saying charged (even though it wasnt charging)
So i flashed the original android 6 from the nexus pages again and still have the same issue (0%, 0mv)
Really hoping to fix this

Galaxy S6 O2 Charging issue

Hi All
The battery died on my S6 tonight with the indicator showing 13% (unlucky I know!). I plugged the phone into my wall fast charger and went for a bath. When I came back down 30 mins later I picked up the phone and it was showing 0% but in the notification area it had recognised the fast charger and said 1 hour 20 mins to full.
I changed the USB lead from the charger to the phone and initially it charged up to 30% in around 15 mins and then immediately dropped back down to 0%.
I have again changed the USB lead and it seems to be charging again it has made it up to 42% this time without dropping so I'm hoping it fully charges.
Does anyone have any advice or has anyone had a similar issue?
After this I will NEVER buy Samsung again I've had nothing but trouble with this model I really don't think its fit for purpose.
It is sold as a multi media device but if you try to use it as one you need to carry external battery packs. When I took it back to Samsung they said its a "screen on issue" and the screen on time is no more than 3 hours.
***************************************************UPDATE*************************************
It now appears to be stuck on 42 %

I've had similar issues like this but I am rooted. It involved me doing a clean install of my preferred rom. If you are stock then try the following 1. Factory reset 2. Flash a firmware via odin. If you still have issues then try a new usb cable and charger. This issue has only ever happened to me once since I've had this phone last September.
