So my cousin had the this tablet she hadn't us for a while and she asked to to fix it up. Root it put some apps on it blah blah blah. So i rooted it using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681155/
Everything was fine and it went smoothly, I had root access, TWRP recovery that it came with and it was working fine.
I wanted to put a ROM on it for my cousin to match her phone so I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2584265
So, I flashed the Rom and it was fine. Then I flashed the Gapps and it said that the system partion didn't have enough space.
Here is where I screwed up (I think). TWRP said that I lost root access and i had to fix it BUT i had to swipe a bar at the bottom to fix it. My dumbass pressed the button in the middle of the screen which was to ignore it. I didn't see what i was doing and i messed up
So I lost root or something and when i turn on the device and try to boot into recovery by holding the Power + Vol Down keys it does not work!
Now I have a tablet with android 4.4.3, no Gapps, no root, no recovery. I have tried to factory reset it but the one in settings do not work.
I'm stuck and I need help from someone smarter. Thank you for anything.
Id start again, sounds like something in recovery got messed up if it thinks the system partition is not big enough for gapps
Flash TWRP with Easyflasher
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688012
Download ROM & Gapps to MicroSD Card
I suggest KatKiss #29 & Gapps from this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2592890
Factory reset & Wipe everything except External Storage from TWRP
Flash ROM
Flash Gapps
Wipe Cache & Dalvik Cache
Reboot
Nothing more nothing less is needed, so if it doesn't work by doing the above, there are other problems
ok so i installed the drivers it easyflasher was asking for and now it asks whether the device is SBK1 or SBK2, how do i find out whether the device is B70 or above... I feel dumb again... It also asks if its in APX mode... i need help again
ok i figured out the easyflasher and i get the recovery but, when im done flashing all the files and boot the device it says that i have to repair root, like before and even if i say to do so i lose the recovery every time meaning i have to go and put the recovery back onto it and do everything again.....
alrighty so ive got the recovery to stick, and i got the KitKatKiss rom which is actually really nice, however i don't have root, i keep trying to flash the supersu file but it does not work. thanks for everything already. it would be nice to have it rooted.......

KatKiss is already rooted by default, you should not flash an additionnal supersu zip.
Just Flash the rom then gapps from the KatKiss thread
wipe cache + dalvik-cache
then reboot.
If you're coming from another rom version, a full wipe / factory reset is recommended before flashing too.

Hey!
First let me say that I know all about flashing SGS and SGS2. Im a proud owner of SGS1 from day 1.
Last week I decided to finally flash my brothers i9023 so I flashed stock 4.0.3 with stock recovery. Then we wanted to flash some XDA stuff and I don't understand these guides...
I found one guide where you get superuser access with one click and usb cable, I did that, then I flashed CWM through Rom manager and flashed 4.0.4 from evilisto (v1.1) and it worked. Now I'm trying to flash some others, like nuhetri reloaded or pixel rom and I'm always getting stuck at boot animation. It just keeps "working" and nothing happens for 5+ minutes.
What am I doing wrong? Please help!
Best Regards
Luka
(in general)in recovery wipe data factory reset, format cache, davlik cache, system, boot. then flash new rom.
with nuhetri i think there is a bug where your not supposed to wipe data coming from another rom only davlik cache and cache then flash nuhetri

Hey and thanks for such quick reply!
I did all these now, rebooted to recovery (from CWM) and flashed this Fully Touched:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411734
Its stuck at boot image for 5 minutes now.
What now?
your using updated version of cwm? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22044793&postcount=82
steps
put rom on sd card
reboot into cwm recovery
wipe data, cache, davlik cahe, and format system and boot
install zip from sd card
choose rom you put on sd card
should say install from sd complete or something like that
reboot system now
let it boot into new rom (should not take more than 3-5 min)
edit: just seen this post in the rom thread your trying to flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23255456&postcount=389 try redownloading again

I did all that before... Im going to redownload, maybe its corrupted but I doubt it. Is it maybe because I have locked bootloader or something? Beacause I didnt use that long guide with "android SDK" in General, but some other very quick guide. Just plug USB, enable debugging and run some script and thats it.

do yourself a favor, do it the right way the first time and save yourself headaches in the future. its not hard. fastboot oem unlock(bootloader), flash a custom recovery, flash a custom rom(and gapps) via the recovery, then boot up. thats it.
If you are more of a visual type of guy I suggest going on YouTube and search "zedomax". He has some really simple videos on how to root your nexus s, he has a couple videos on how to root but make sure its for a GSM nexus.
Simms got all in a simply way.
Unlock boot loader
Install or flash cwm
install the new stuff from SD card
reboot
Can anyone tell me or please provide a link to what unlocking bootloader does please.
Best Regards
Excuse my ignorance, I'm pretty new to this and I might not be of any help at all... but is it even possible to flash a custom recovery without unlocking the bootloader on the Nexus S?
I followed the instructions found on the NexusShacks.com website (How to root Nexus S or Nexus S 4G on ICS or Gingerbread) without any issues at all (sorry, can't post links due to low postcount :/)
No problems for me, I had zero experience with this sort of stuff but I have flashed a new ROM a every few days now without any issues whatsoever.

Hi all,
I just discovered CleanROM yesterday, and I'm trying to throw it on my S3 now. Everything installs fine, I go through all of the choices, and at the end TWRP pops up and tells my that it ppears that mt root is "broken" and asks if I want to repair permissions. I tell it 'yes', it seems to do its job, and I reboot.
After that, I have waited 20 minutes with no boot. It starts the boot animation, which is a 4-color 'X' on the screen, and nothing more. I have looked around, and people say that on first boot, there are sometimes orphan files that need to be resolved, but they said maybe 6 or 7 minutes, not 20.
Some background:
I probably rooted about a month ago in order to install CyanogenMod
I am not sure what method I used to root the phone with, mostly because I had issues from the beginning(Apparently not unheard of with the S3), but I know that I am rooted.
My bootloader is also unlocked, AFAIK, since I wouldn't have been able to instal CM10 otherwise.
I am using TWRP 2.4 as my recovery and it seems to be working wonderfully.
Process:
I boot into recovery
Choose 'Install'
Point to my download of CleanROM and follow all prompts, choosing launcher, file manager, etc.
Tell it to wipe data and cache
After the install, there is the message from TWRP telling me that root is "broken"(I think that's the term it uses), and asks me if I want to repair permissions, and I of course repair them.
After rebooting is when nothing happens. I finally pull the battery and either try again, or restre my phone so I can use it. I'm probably 0/4 at this point, I downloaded the ROM from the Dev's site, and have no problems, since it gives no errors during install.
So I guess I have three questions:
1. Can I re-root my device? Will this help, or could it frak things up worse?
2. Is there a way to fix those file permissions for good? The fix doesn't seem to be holding when I choose "repair" in TWRP.
3. Is this a ROM issue instead, and should I downgrade a version? Also, is anyone else seeing this?
Thanks in advance for any help guys! :good:

I think you are referring to the /root partition, not actually being rooted.
The problem is your order of operations. You are wiping the ROM after you install! You are supposed to wipe data/cache BEFORE you install the ROM.
This is not a ROM issue, I just installed CleanROM 6r2 and it is fast as heck and worked fine. I suggest you boot into twrp and perform the install correctly.

I wondered about that, but using TWRP in the 'Install' mode, it doesn't prompt for wipe until after(Unless I'm doing something wrong there). Just to be clear, you're just suggesting that I manually wipe first, then let TWRP and CleanROM take me through the process after that, right?
Thanks
Boot into twrp.
Hit the wipe menu.
Wipe the top four boxes
(Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Factory reset.
Wipe system.)
Install ROM
Should boot within 2 minutes tops.

Hey guys, since my post count is too low to post my problems with this OTA update in the development section of this rom, ill do it here. Sorry for that.
I think im having no problems with flashing the 2.1. ROM yet but i have my concerns if i did that right.
First problem with flashing it, is the question if im having a custom kernel. I flashed ViperOneS a several times but made a fullwipe before.
So am i having a custom kernel or not?
Next issue is that im only able to flash this ROM with CWM. TWRP 2.5 doesnt work and even 2.3.3.0, which should work, but does not for me...
Well with CWM i ll do it that way:
1. Doing Fullwipe in CWM (Factory reset, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik and System).
2. Flashing the ROM and choosing HTC Theme > Custom Kernel? > not sure sometimes "yes" sometimes "no".
3. Flash finished? > asks me if i want to reboot (into system) or save the logs. Since the instruction tells me to flash the boot.img first before rebooting...
4. ... im going into bootloader via adb which works
5. flash the boot.img
6. fastboot erase cache
7. reboot system
8. before doing the first setup i go into recovery and wipe cache.
I think 2.1 works but i want to be sure if i did everything right, especially with the custom kernel question and that i reboot into bootloader right after aroma says that the flash is finished.
Now i want to flash the 2.2.0 OTA because the update function through the ROM didnt work for me last time (it downloads the OTA but wasnt able to flash)
Im not sure how to flash the OTA right via recovery. Everytime i did that the ROM was kinda messed up, like when im turning the screen off and on Sense keeps loading and it takes some sec to unlock. And the venom tweaks app is totally laggy, even with the "trick" to go into app settings and wipe the cache and data which found on any other site (not xda...).
The problem is that they dont keep their instructions up-to-date (+ how to flash the OTA... right)
It looks to my like there are 100 different ways to flash 2.1.0 and 2.2.0 and only 1 is the right way which lets the ROM being amazing...
Hope you can help me. Thanks in advance!

All you have to do ist to flash the OTA with your custom recovery like any other flashable zip if this isn't done automatically. You can simply copy it to your device from your pc or flash it from your mobiles download folder, it doesn't matter which way.
The 'trick' is very well known here at xda, but simply nobody wants to repeat it a hundred times... Here at xda there is even included the fact, that after rebooting you should change your skin once to get things going besides wiping cache and data in venom tweaks and hub.
What EXACTLY doesn't work with TWRP 2.3.3.0?

about finding such "tricks": the problem is that those ROM release threads have tons of post (500+ sites of them) and it seems like 90% are from people who didnt even flash the ROM... i think you ll excuse me if i say i got tired of searching for my problems there^^
well can u tell me which skin i have to change? on venom tweaks or the htc skin on personalization? and app settings > venom tweaks > wipe cache and data right?

when i flash it with 2.3.3.0 (or 2.5... its the same), the flash process doesnt even take up to 2 seconds and it says its finished and that causes a bootloop but doesnt make me wonder.
dont you have problems with TWRP flashing sense roms either?
ah and another one: did i flash the version 2.1 right and what about the custom kernel question?
well thanks for ur time.
edit: well this time flashing with twrp 2.3.3.0 worked somehow, but i choosed flashing without wipe (made it in recovery) and not to delete apps with aroma installer (which i did before)... just strange.
new problem. dont know whats wrong with my phone but:
wanted to make a backup of my ViperOneS 2.1 with TWRP 2.3.3.0 after lets say 70% of progress it starts turning off my phone and restarts into system. i flashed 2.5.0.0 but its the same issue (edit#1: with CWM too...). strange is that TWRP turned out my phone before when i wiped something there.
i think somethings really messed up atm...
edit#2: had to run a ruu over the system again, flashed twrp and backups seem work again..strange ****
Hi! I just installed a new Custom ROM for my phone. After 5 minutes I wanted to create a backup. So I started ROM Manager. I entered the name, and hit OK. The phone booted into a crashed recovery mode. So I took the battery out and rebooted the phone. It didn't boot into my Custom ROM. It booted into recovery. So I am stuck inside the recovery mode and can't boot normally.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy Mini (GT-S5570)
Recovery: CWM Recovery
Custom ROM: CyanogenMod
Hello,
If you can boot into the recovery, do a factory reset and flash back the custom rom. And then reboot the device, once you rebooted the device will boot into system. And then you're done!
Good luck!

Hi, i would like help you with this problem as I myself have experienced it. The things that you should have done are:
1. Always make the backup early on before installing the Custom ROM.
2. When installing a Custom ROM, make sure you have not replaced core system apps
3. Make sure your there are complete symlinks in your ROM otherwise it be hard bricked. Ouch.
4. Before installing a Custom ROM, make sure they are from experts, like CyanogenMOD, and sure your device is supported for updates.
5.[Most Important] The only things to wipe when installing a ROM are : 1. Cache 2. Dalvik Cache 3. User Data, never ever ever ever WIPE your system folder with root access on it. This will always ensure that you will reboot into recovery, and it will be annoying to root your device w/o ADB USB Debugging on.
6. Make sure that there are no system apps missing on your Custom ROM, check for the legibility of the Custom apps installed. Are they pirated perhaps?
7.[Very Important]Always watch a video tutorial for it's errors, and search how to Unbrick your device first before proceeding with an installation.
So that if any problem arises, you will be sure to restore it to it's Stock experience.
8.[Absolutely Important]Make sure that your software counterparts on the PC are compatible and functioning well first before you proceed.
Now tell, me which of the following did you not do?
And if this really helped you a lot, please like. For the sake of those who did their research.

Try fastboot?
Hi,
No one seems to have suggested using a program called fastboot. It involves just installing some essential software on a PC, then running the program "Fastboot" along with the desired options.
I strongly suggest trying this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277112
I am always flashing ROMs and then trying to tweak them and end up messing up the bootloaders, or somehow breaking the system. And then i try using CWM or TWRP and still there remain issues. However, fastboot has always done the job for me.
Hope this helps.
Someone help me with my problem please ??

First download the ROM (custom Exynos only) you want to flash. You must have Exynos phone, yes? . . . Yes. Do not attempt with Snapdragon phone and custom ROM. You will fook your phone up.
Download any supporting files the ROM OP advises you will need.
Read the instructions from the OP about the flashing/installation order. Perhaps have the web page in front of you, or print out the basic instructions.
As you shared, you can boot into TWRP, so do so and then connect your phone to your computer. When in TWRP, mount your external SD card if the computer does not see the external SD card. Alternatively you can use your internal storage, equally as easy.
Copy over the ROM and supporting files.
Then, in TWRP, go to Wipe menu, and choose to format Data, type yes and that will then formate your data sector area.
Then go back into Wipe/Advanced, and wipe Dalivik/cache, data, system
Now to to the Install menu of TWRP, top left of TWRP main screen, and follow the directions the OP provided for the custom ROM you selected.
After flashing by OP's directions, go back to Wipe/Advanced wipe, and wipe Dalvik/cache.
I am assuming SU or Magisk was installed by the custom ROM, or the OP's directions should have outlined how to install one of the two.
Boot to system, after you followed all of the OP's directions on installing the custom ROM, and wiped Dalvik/cache at the end of all installed files.
Some folks may short cut a few steps here and there, but I'd not worry about that.
If you need more info, it ought to be in the OP's custom ROM thread.
