2 separate issues Mail and TWRP - Verizon HTC One (M8)

1st issue is with TWRP. When I was in the process of flashing twrp everything worked fine but, the battery was pretty weak so I powered the phone all the way down and plugged it into the charger. When the screen popped up with the battery charge, twrp splash screen was displaying behind the battery without telling the phone to boot into recovery.
The disclaimer from twrp is also displaying on manual reboots. (will post pictures when I get home)
2nd unrelated is with the HTC mail app. I 2 Gmail accounts linked (hate Gmail app), one Microsoft Exchange and 1 yahoo account. The Gmail accounts work fine and so does the Microsoft account. The yahoo account is showing me my junk/spam folder instead of the inbox. I've seen other problems similar after Google search but, they were with Microsoft and they were ALSO getting notified of spam box as well as inbox new mail. For me, my inbox items aren't displayed at all.
I'm running Cleanrom 1.1...
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The TWRP splash screen dispaying when charging the unit when powered down is a possible TWRP bug don't worry about it. As far as your mail goes I don't use anything but Gmail can't help you there, sorry.

Yeah, that was the only issue with twrp, was able to flash with no problems so, for now just cosmetic.
This mail app thing is more bothersome.
Let me ask u this about Gmail app... Did they give us the option to turn off "threaded view"? That was my biggest problem with it.

I had the same problem with mine, yahoo has their own mail app on the play store. It filters all the junk out like yahoo mail should.

Just in case the issue with the mail app is had by another, I found a solution here http://m.digitaltrends.com/mobile/htc-one-m8-problems/#!0rUpI.

[App] Trillian beta for android

I searched this forum and did not find anything, so thought I'll create one.
Trillian for Android is out.
Best Android IM client I've used so far.
Nice features in short:
- chat tabs
- bubble conversation interface
- your account details are grouped and saved as an 'astra' account on their site.
- chats sent while you are offline are emailed to you

i've been using it and it's been great!
It force closes a lot when I multi-task back to it. I'm sending logs so I'm sure all the kinks will get worked out by the time it hits the market.
Yupe, look great love it
Love the interface also.
Looks promising, but there is no option to add a MSN messenger account.

I get the FC error when I switch back to it too.
Another think I hope they don't do is add ads to the free version.

I noticed that I don't get a notification (sound nor LED) after receiving a message, and I have to open the app then the notification will appear.
Anyone with the same problem?
I didn't have that problem, but I did have the force close issue.
Also I don't think it yet handles links... tried tapping on a link for half a minute, nothing happened
does the send IM via e-mail when in suspend work for you?
i am shown as online in the messenger, but i dont get the email with a new IM

Don't get your pannies in a bunch, it's a BETA.
Anyway, is there a way to remove IM to E-mail?
Tried the app today for a min, it is plain awful.
I can't even use it because I'm getting "wrong password" after registering and trying to login
no major issues on my end but it doesn't place nice with my messengers on my comp signing me out of FB and it not only wipes my WLM display pic(eBuddy also does this) but resets my theme
on the plus side it tells me when i contact is idle in WLM, something eBuddy doesn't do
and it changes your nickname for example my normal nickname qvert is too short for trillian account, if i changed it to something like qvert2 than it changes my nickname in my messenger networks to qvert2 too
It was a disappointment. I also uninstalled for the following reasons:
1) The push function to mail wasn't working on suspend mode.
2) The LED notification does not work.
3) fails to show notification for instant messages, have to open the app in order for notification to occur.
I know it's only beta but it just could not fulfill the basics of a IM chat client at the moment.

Facebook Contact Sync with Deblurred ROM (Finland Froyo 3.4.2-145)

After the first time I flashed Froyo 3.4.2-145 (Finland), I realize that Facebook contact sync was lost. I think thas beacuse this sync is a Motoblur feature.
I've tried old versions from facebook app, but none of them seem to work.
So, I flashed UK 3.4.3 Blur ROM and configured Motoblur Sync again. Since the market app in this version doesnt work, get back to 3.4.2-145, and didnt factory reset after flash. With this, my facebook sync is working now.
I dont know if I'll get some issue due the lack of factory reset after reflash. I'll let you know.
Best regards!

Going to Deblurred on my brother's Defy, experienced the same issue. However, i created him a dummy Yahoo email account which lets you import all your facebook contacts. Once imported, i exported them as a .csv and logged into his gmail account and imported that same .csv, so he pretty much got all his facebook contacts back and they are now stored in his google account for good.
To get their facebook pictures to sync as their contact pics, check out an app called Syncmypix
I also use syncmypix but, as I said quite a few times in other topics already, this is hardly a replacement for facebook sync. Now the problem is that the official facebook app does support contacts sync but it only allows certain devices to do so. I googled many times already but the only thing I can find so far is a hacked version of an older facebook apk. How they managed to change the apk to force the app to synchronize is the holy grail here because then we could do the same with newer versions.
It's quite stupid Facebook blocks sync on certain devices. With Twitter it works but my friends hardly use it.
*edit*
Well I just found a facebook/twitter/myspace app that DOES support sync on the Defy! It's T-Mobile's app Social Buzz. Available on the market. If it doesn't show up in the Market simply use Market Enabler. Great for installing apps that are not officially allowed on your current network. I don't really like the app itself but at least it syncs. It also doesn't have many notification settings: it's everything or just personal messages. Wish I could also set things like replies on my status updates or on my comments on other people's updates.

Two days and I think everithing is ok with the "double-flashed" ROM.
The facebook account is listed under contacts app and I can link my Google and Exchange contacts with their facebook profiles, just like the old blur rom.
I think its unusual but clean solution for those who wants a deblurred ROM and keep facebook integration: factory reset a blur rom, add facebook account and flash a deblurred rom over it.
Better than sync with csv or use another app just to do this.

UPDATE: Works fine! thanks for the amazing tip! you're awesome
Social Buzz did not sync my Facebook contacts to my phone. The app worked, I was able to see status updates etc in the app itself, but everytime I chose the "Facebook"-group in Contacts it said "You don't have any friends loser" or so...
I tried every option in Social Buzz, including the correct one "sync all ..." and it just didn't work
Does anyone know how to edit 'tasks.sh' in PaYs Rom so I can flash 3.4.3-11 BLUR and won't lose BLUR Facebook sync?

Email app battery drain

This morning I noticed that the Email app on my new Nexus 5 is being the biggest drainer of my battery. Just overnight my battery level dropped about 30-50%. As far as I know, I have all my email accounts set up the same way as on my Nexus 4, while I never had the email app show up on the list of battery draining apps before.
My email accounts are set to sync every 15 minutes or one hour.
I was wondering if anyone else encountered this on their phone.

Even worse for me. Found out over 80% of my battery was being drained by email. 3 POP accounts, all synced at 15 min intervals. I have switched to IMAP to see if it's any better.

Same here.
It's definitely a bug and it only affects corporate exchange accounts. POP3 and IMAP don't seem to be causing this issue, at least in my case.
Even though I set my sync option on my university email to once every hour...under settings-accounts-corporate, i could see that the email account was refreshing every second.
Got rid of that email account and it doesn't drain my battery anymore.
Seen similar issues with my N5 and the Email App syncing with a corporate Exchange server. It can get stuck and go into a loop, draining battery and masses of data.
Check this by going into the Accounts & Sync -> Corporate -> {the account you set up} And look at the email, if the spinning icon constantly shows it syncing and re-sync you have the issue. I removed and re-added the account, and it seems OK now
On GN3
I installed the KitKat email apk on my Galaxy Note 3, and I can confirm the excessive battery drain. For me, it doesn't appear to be associated with Exchange in that I'm using POP3 email. I haven't found a solution, so I deleted all the data until Google issues an update that will hopefully fix it. I'll probably go back to the Samsung client until then.
Good luck to finding a fix! Go Nexus 5!
I'm having a separate problem with the stock email app. It will not sync any of my work emails past November 1. Everything is set up correctly, and my work email syncs just fine on every other Android device I own.

The accounts that were draining my battery were POP3 as well. Not only that they killed my battery life, they did not even sync the emails besides for the very first connection. But I believe this thread talks about the same issues: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512237
I had the same thing yesterday after signing out and back in it fixed it
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm using the stock email app on android 4.4 on nexus 5 as well, but to sync with Hotmail/Outlook.com.
Whenever the sync frequency in the email app is set to Automatic/Push, Exchange Services constantly starts process non-stop and repeatedly. What I saw in Settings, under Corporate account is that it repeatedly syncs, constantly, even though there isn't any new items.
This resulted in heavy draining of the battery and the only workaround is to change the sync frequency to anything else but Push.
This doesn't happen on my Nexus 7 DEB FHD 2013 running Android 4.4.

[APP][3.0+]: FloatMail: Floatification extension for email

Description
Receive email from within any app, without pausing the app, including fullscreen apps.
This is an extension for the app Floatifications published by Rob J. The floatifications app *must* be installed prior to installing FloatMail:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=robj.floating.notifications
The app supports:
Display sender name and subject
Display full email body
Commands:
Open: Opens the email app inbox
Delete: Deletes the Floatification
Reply: Reply from within the email app
Quick Reply: Reply from within the Floatification
Delete All: Deletes all recent FloatMail Floatifications
Delete Message: Deletes the email message from the remote server
Mark as Read: Marks the message as read on the remote server
The app works with nearly all email accounts by supporting the following protocols: IMAP, IMAP-IDLE (Push Mail), POP3 & Exchange via EWS or IMAP.
Note: There is no dependencies on K9, Gmail APIs or anything else so your free to use any email app that you want in conjunction with FloatMail.
Using this extension means you can do away with the status bar if you wish, disable your normal email notifications, and still be notified within FN for Email.

Very promising.
Since most of us will have either the default mailer, gmail, K9 or some other popular mailer up, the ability to import accounts setting would be very highly appreciated. Kind of a pain to enter this stuff once more from the phone's keyboards, even the best of them
Thanks Dovid. I have already implemented export/import with an encrypted export file. When you tap on the export-file it will automatically associate the file with FloatMail and populate the settings. I'll expose that functionality soon in version 1.4 or 1.5. Thanks for the suggestion. Cheers, Glen.

Quite nice. Will try the 1.4 or 1.5 app once posted ( and I have decided whether or not to keep the 4.4.3 Omnrom).
I take it one still needs the original emailers around to issue the notification? Or once, imported, can they be removed if this be one's preferred mailer? Read the Play description so seems this can work on its own. Actually I only use K9 so would probably keep it around.
Exchange support puts this over the rest!

Sorry I should have been clearer before. The export/import feature will backup/restore the FloatMail settings which is ideal when:
1. You want to reset the device
2. You want the same settings, but on another device
But it won't automatically configure the app based on your K9/Gmail settings.
The app connects directly to your IMAP server. In the case of Gmail, it would connect to the server using IMAP-IDLE/Push-mail. When a message is sent, it will automatically appear in a floatification within a few seconds.
It is capable of opening the inbox or compose screen of any email app that you want. [You just need to choose the app from a list on the account setup screen] However, since it shows the full message and you can do quick replies hopefully users will not need to open their email apps so often.
Cheers,
Glen

Question Oneplus 9 No Gmail Notifications Unless I Open the App

Hi,
So i just upgraded from the oneplus 7 pro, and have been having this issue since I upgraded about 2 months ago. My Gmail app will not show any new mail notifications until I open the app or manually refresh for mail not on the gmail server.
I've tried all the troubleshooting tips one does when someone has this problem, minus uninstalling/reinstalling gmail, and still nothing.
Here are some of my settings inside and outside of gmail, and my power saving settings for the phone.

It says I'm getting notifications throughout the day, but that's only when I manually go to the app and get them. I used to get push notifications as soon as I get an email on Gmail, and every hour on my yahoo acocunt, now that's nonexistent.
Does anyone have any idea what else I can change to finally get notifications working correctly? TIA!
I am having the exact same issue with my OP9. Not sure the cause, but I just switched to outlook. Now every notification comes through. My job uses exchange, so now I just have one email and calendar app for work and personal.
After several days use, I prefer outlook to Gmail/Google calendar.

One thing is make sure to clear the storage for Gmail. This way, when it does decide to start working again, you aren't hit with double notifications for everything.
Same here... I downloaded Spark, but it isn't good as Gmaill main app
Yes yes same here.
I have this problem since the first day I got my OP9
Sad but true (now using Outlook without problems)
FairEmail is great alternative. Not as pretty but works great. And protects your privacy
I had the same issue, other than deleting all Gmail's app data and setting the battery mode to non optimized for the app, what fixed it for me was going to
Settings>Apps and notifications>Special access for apps>Adaptive notifications>None
I do not claim credit for this solution, I found it on Reddit after hours of searching and unless it was something else that I changed I believe it was this that fixed it
I had the same problem. As a workaround I put a gmail widget on my homescreen so that the apps stays alive and syncs whenever I unlock. It's working great for now. Hope this gets fixed soon.
I think the latest update to OOS 12 fixes the GMAIL notification problem. Mine has been working since I updated about a week ago.

Is it still working?
I just got this thing yesterday and if I can't get Gmail and Calendar notifications it is going to go back because they worked fine on my Pixel 3 XL and I shouldn't have to switch apps when they always worked fine before.
I cleared the app data, disabled battery optimization, turned off adaptive notifications. I'm running out of ideas.
Everything has been mostly fine with this thing so far except the notifications.

I've tried deleting cache/storage, updating app (plus restarting phone ofc) etc it sometimes fixes it but after a day or so notifications stop appearing again. I've just found this thread and the hint about Adaptive Notifications but what's funny is that this option doesn't even exist on Android 13 anymore?
Could anyone shed some light please as this is really getting ridiculous.
