If you are rooted, then OTA updates will not work for you. Download a full update from Samsung site and flash it via cable from BB.

download samsung kies and update it that way, otherwise if your willing to factory reset, download odin and the update firmware for your device and flash it that way.

[Q] Odin or Kies?

Hello. Suppose I have a brand new Samsung Galaxy Ace running stock ROM Android 2.3.4 and want to upgrade to 2.3.5 or later version.
1. Is it safer to use KIES or Odin?
2. OTA means over the air, correct?
3. Is using KIES considered an "OTA update"?
4. If there IS a 2.3.5 or later for Galaxy Ace, is it OFFICIAL? Is it stable?
5. In this link, http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-S5830&r=2#regiona
It's for Singapore (Singtel), can I use that even if I don't live in Singapore?

They are both "safe". Overall though, ODIN is preferred. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248346.

Do NOT use it (Do not ever use a rom for a different country/carrier you are not in/on - Unless you know exactly what you are doing and why you are doing it).
ODIN is better, but there is the possibilty to brick the phone if something doesn't work. But updating with ODIN make you lose the warranty of the phone.
Thanks guys. How do I know if there's already a firmware update for my country? Do I always have to look in sammobile.com? Or do I just plug my phone in my laptop and open Kies and it would automatically detect if there's a firmware update available?
Thanks!

Kies should notify you of an update, but you could still check manually. You could also see here: http://droidangel.blogspot.com/2011/05/samsung-galaxy-ace-s5830-original-stock.html.

Did you try to flash firmware with Odin and it didn't complete for some reason? I am asking because I was in your situation when I first bought my Note 3 a while ago.
If this is the reason then it may be the Samsung drivers that are missing from your PC. Some drivers are present and the phone was detected but not all drivers needed were installed, hence the flashing process couldn't complete/failed. Try installing the drivers again, even if you think you have done so already (not just the ones that Windows auto installs when you connect your phone), then try to flash the firmware again. Hopefully the procedure will complete this time. It worked for me. Fingers crossed

yes correct.

Bricked my Galaxy S6

Hi, I downloaded and installed some rom file earlier, and I followed the instructions correctly, but something must have gone wrong because I wasn't able to get into my recovery after that. I still have access to Odin mode though, so I tried flashing what (I think?) was the correct firmware file for my device, a G-920f dual sim. That didn't do anything for me. If anyone can help me out, and also a link to the firmware file would be appreciated, as I no longer have the original and the only ones I've been able to find have like a 3kb/s download speed, which would take many many hours.
Also, for the firmware, should I download lollipop or marshmallow? My phone was on 5.1 before this mess. If the firmware is for both, can you link me to both and I will try either?
You might try to install Samsung Smart Switch on your computer, which is able to pull updates from Samsung directly and update your phone.
In other cases, my experience is that samsung-updates.ru offers higher download speeds than the sites you might have visited (Google Translate is your friend).
find a lollipop Rom, either a custom from here or a stock one from sammobile. If you were rooted I recommend a custom rom from the s6 forum alternatively if you weren't rooted get a stock 5.1 for G-920f.
no go
So, I forgot to mention, I cant boot into the rom either. Its just odin mode, no recovery, no android. All the files on that russian website are for 6.0, btw, but I'll try it out

Yep but their download link is broken
Anyway, I got android 6 installed now, but I cant get booted into it....

When a newb fails, bricked s6(SOLVED)

So, i was trying to flash a ROM after i got my recovery and root going on, i wiped EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE recovery file i made and the installation file i got in the phone when i went to wipe the system files and attempt to install the ROM. So, i tried to put the ROM files into my phone via the ADB method. It worked but my ROM didn't and now my S6 is in a boot loop. i have tired Odin, smartwatch and kies. On kies and smart watch, they both said the attempt to install stock ROM failed and attempt a emergency recovery. HOWEVER, both software did not recognize my device in the emergency recovery devices list, nor did it recognize it as a compatible device in the 1st place, i tired to reinstall the drivers and the software themselves but nothing worked. For Odin, it keeps on saying fail to flash as well, it usually stuck on the 'nano write' process or 'setting up connection' process for a long time too! I did download the official Samsung firmware and extracted it, put it into the blank next to the 'AP' button in odin and i got 'Auto Reboot' and 'F. Reset Time' checked off. On the phone, i can boot in to download mode and download mode only, now it shows me a triangle and it says that stock firmware flash failed and use emergency recovery. i actually download a custom recovery and for some reason it wont boot into that.
Model number: SM-G920W8
carrier: fido
If any of you pros got any ideas please share with me, i've been trying to fix this problem for about a day and a night.

about roms, i still got 5.1.1 so if i want to install a rom, does it matter? or is it just about finding the 1 for your model. i want to install XtreStoLite but some versions have android 6.0 in the title and some have 5.1.1, and why don't posts about roms have any comments?

For me, updating my phone via smart switch has also done the trick. It's easier then flashing a rom with Odin, though it only works when there is an update available.

Just install smart switch on your computer: http://www.samsung.com/us/smart-switch/
Then install it to your phone from Google play if you don't have it already.
Next, connect your phone to your computer and that's it. The rest will be done for you by smart switch.

Hi
mate more details.....
Phone model
root procedure you followed
errors you got
can you go into download mode
can you go into recovery
Help! I have the same problem aswell.
Galaxy S7 G930FD. Had root installed (Super SU) via the methods posted here with TWRP etc, all working fine. Decided I wanted to see what the AutoMagicDisk was all about. So.. as per instructions elsewhere... in Super SU, clicked "remove root" (I think thats the option) - was prompted something like restore boot image - said yes, restore recovery - chose no.
Phone then restarted and kept getting stuck at the Samsung S7 logo. Logo would stay on screen for about 5 seconds, then blink, then same thing again.
I can boot back into twrp, tried wiping cash/dalvic, same thing.
Currently trying to do a full backup with TWRP
Please help!
After installing the Root does not work private mode. if i delete root it fix private mode?
