CM10.2.1 Stable* for Nook HD+ (Ovation)
Credit to
-Verygreen and CM team for Ovation's CM10.2
-JustArchi for build optimizations
-Caldair for TabletUI patch
In this edition:
--- TabletUI capable. Caldair's patch stopped working after nightly Dec 5, 2013. I reverted minor commits to mainly translations and circle battery to allow the patch to succeed:
--- ArchiDroid Optimizations using GCC 4.7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2754997
The build using GCC 4.8 toolchain would not boot, but all other optimizations remain.
--- 30 media volume steps
--- 0.25x animation speed options under developer settings
--- Tiny reduction to cm10.2 speaker gain to reduce distortion at highest volumes.
--- STABILITY. Not my doing. In my experience, cm10.2 rarely reboots or crashes.
--- Flash videos works well enough
*Technically a June 14 nightly post-stable. However, there have been very few commits since the 10.2.1 stable was released months before.
**Touch fuzz 3x5 and Trim support are already integrated into the CM10.2 kernel. No need to flash an old separate kernel.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________Installation notes:
-Compatible with New and old CWM recovery (no need to downgrade)
1)Format /system AND factory reset (data, cache), then flash ROM zip
2)Flash GAPPs for android 4.3. These work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240652 (Use 4.3)
-DO NOT restore system data from CM11
3)First complete a full boot and setup of the rom before installing tabletUI patch
Download ROM: http://d-h.st/jpd
Download TabletUI Patch: http://d-h.st/5Ar
*DO NOT install the tabletUI patch without first completing a full boot and setup of the rom.*
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________TIPS
For a permanent menu button, I like to set my nook hardware key to open/close menu.
Xposed modules can do this or you can edit the gpio user key file very easily.
Go to the folder user - > key layouts - > gpio-keys.kl
Edit the file with system rw.
Change the word "HOME" to "MENU". Reboot.
Default trebuchet launcher slow? Try Nova or Apex from store. They work a lot better in my experience.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________UPDATE 6/21:
Fixed ExFat support.
Added ROW I/O, Intelliactive CPU governor.
Get flash player below!
Enjoy!

Looks good I will try it out later this morning and let you know how it goes.

You are going to be sorry you did that if someone with an HD gets a hold of this and tries to flash it. It will brick his device.
A better solution is to use the update-binary from a kitkat zip and the assert works.

Was trying an app called map book and it reboots my tablet. Never used it before so it could be an app issue and not a Rom problem but figured I would mention it if someone else wanted to try it.

I see what you're saying, but it's a bit of an exaggeration to say someone will brick. They'll need to boot into recovery and flash a new Rom.
I deleted the line because not everyone has the new kk recovery, and I want it to be compatible with both.

Dr. Marbles touch (3x5 I remember?) fuzz commit is already integrated. If it's laggy for you, maybe try to run a manual trim with lagfix and reboot. Also, the stock launcher is a bit slow, I'd get Nova or similar.

If you did what I said it will be compatible with both new and old recoveries. That way you will not be responsible for causing grief for noob HD users.
The issue is not that the assert line exists, it is because the KK recovery using the older update-binary interpreter from older zips causes the assert statement to fail. If you put a new update-binary from a kk ROM in your ROM then the kk recovery will interpret the assert command correctly and it passes. The beauty is that older recoveries also interpret the assert command correctly using the new kk update-binary.

I didn't know the new assert line was backwards compatible. I'll upload a new one. Would using the newer update-binary be enough or do I need to alter the update-script as well?

Just put the original assert line back and put the kk update-binary file in your ROM zip replacing the one that is built with the CM10.2.1.

Ok done. Thanks for clearing that up.
For those who didn't understand what leapinlar was talking about, don't worry. The ROM is exactly the same. No need to reflash.
Also, since there's some confusion around, I should mention that 3x5 touchfuzz and trim support have been in all cm10.2 nightlies/stables since november 23 and jan 8, respectfully. There's no need to download an old separate kernel from the one of the threads.

Took a break from cm11 due to the aggressive memory management affecting multitasking, and installed this. Pretty solid, smooth and speedy. Great work!
Just found out that my 32gb Samsung MicroSD card formatted with exfat file system doesn't seem to be mounting. It shows up fine in TWRP though.
Edit: Fixed below

It works fine on official 10.2 Nightlies and the stable 10.2.1. Just a heads up.
This is the exact rom I have been looking for: a solid, smooth, stable rom with optimization.
Even though I jumped boat to 4.4 for one night, but 10.2.1 is my all time favorite! Now with this rom I don't think I would even need to use recovery in the future!
Thank you so much for the work, @jamus28

Loving this. One glitch I noticed was with the xposed framework per app settings made my status bar disappear. Odd and probably the fault of the app. But still loving this ROM. Thanks a million! My only request is a menu button in the status bar.

Hello all,
I made this over at the GNex forums for a stock GNex 4.2/4.2.1 kernel... here it is for the Nexus 7 for those that accidentally flashed a 4.1.2 kernel or just want to get back to stock.
Flash at your own risk, should work just fine though!
UPDATED: Kernel should work now! Sorry about the bad zip before!
Will it work on 4.1.2? I have AOKP on my device, would like to flash this, just need to check if it's safe...
Cheers

where were you couple of days ago when I was dealing with the issue - trying to flash stock kernel.....wish you posted this before.
I will save this just in case :silly:
thanks!!!
I flashed LeanKernel and then wanted to go back to stock kernel before flashing latest Faux Kernel.
So I have just flashed your kernel but "about tablet" is telling me I still have LeanKernel installed?
If you can overclock then you're still on lean kernel. Either way, I'd suggest a reflash.

It was definetely still on LeanKernel, I tried it twice.
Only issue could be that I was using an older version of TWRP that wasn't updated for 4.2, but it seemed to flash ok.
edit
Ok, tried it again now I have the updated TWRP and the same thing happens...i.e. nothing, it flashes in the normal way but changes nothing.
This is all wrong. The boot.img inside does not match the one from the N7 nakasi factory image and the updater-script is written for the Galaxy Nexus.
Code:
"of=/dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.0/by-name/boot");
N7 certainly doesn't run OMAP. Flash at your own risk, indeed.
I urge you to take this down and make sure you know you've got it right before you put it up again. Only saving grace here is you were using the platform by-name method (which just plain won't work on the N7) instead of the actual mmc block names or you could have really messed up some peoples' devices.

Please try again... I have updated my zip and tested it by flashing a 4.1.2 kernel, having the device sit at the X for a few minutes without doing anything (to test a non-working kernel) then flashing my zip, and my N7 is back up and running again.
I am still learning about kernel stuff... sorry about any confusion!

Can anyone confirm if the kernel listed (jop40c) is the actual kernel used in the stock 4.2.1 system? The build is jop40d, and the question seams to be getting overlooked. I cannot find the stock jop40d 4.2.1 kernel anywhere, and just do not have any interest at this time in flashing the factory image/re-rooting etc. Any help would be appreciated.

This.. I was about to post, my N7 (16g, wifi) is JOP40D as well, not 40C.
Thinking about trying out a custom kernel, but want the stock to fall back on, as it's super stable.

As it turns out, I built a "slightly rooted" JOP40D stock flash kit yesterday (mods to build.prop in boot.img, and su/SuperSU in system.img). I'm posting this reply from that.
I started with the Google JOP40D (grouper) distro to do that. I thought I was going to need to unpack the boot.img from the OP's .zip to do comparisons of the kernels (to answer your question) ... but it turns out that his boot.img has the same MD5 sig as the boot.img from Google's JOP40D... and the OP's updater-script merely flashes boot.img to the /boot partition.
That means one of two things: either the two successive Google releases (for grouper) had identical boot images (which implies identical kernels), or there is some mistake by the OP. (I don't have the 40C distro to check ... only picked up my N7 a few days ago.)
It should work in your specific case though, as you are on JOP40D.
In any event, flashing boot.img is way way more than just a kernel replacement. I haven't looked at it for a while, but I would suppose that Koush's kernel flasher is a much more appropriate technique for switching ONLY the kernel out from underneath an arbitrary ROM.
cheers
That's great info there. I'm searching for the simplicity of just flashing a kernel instead of pushing the entire boot image. Thanks for a step in clarifying this question

Welcome to my thread for the Jiayu G3N, the new release of the G3 with the s501 chip.
I have ported GThrill ROM v3.0 to the G3N.
GThrill is based on Cyanogenmod 10. It is Jelly bean 4.1.2. There is currently no theme support, but I'll look into that in future builds.
Details of the GThrill ROM can be found here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2163707
This ROM should have all the features of the official ROM, (and more!) the only changes are behind-the-scenes.
Features
- based on "CM10"
- Jellybean 4.1.2
- system/framework zipaligned
- init.d support
- zipalign on the fly (script by Wes Garner)
- slim and light: removed unwanted apps
- host file (to block known ad servers/hosts)
- some build.prop tweaks from different sources
- contains some lines from V6 supercharger script (by zeppelinrox, particularly kernel tweaks)
- Jellybean Keyboard (SWIPE feature)
- Google Chrome browser (bundled stock browser FCs)
- Language: English, French, Chinese, German,
Confirmed working;
Bluetooth
Wifi
GPS
Yet to be tested;
FM Radio
Known bugs;
Front camera is dark and seems to take dark pictures. Setting the mode to night and then back again fixed this. Bizzarely, the front camera seems to be taking 3MP images although it only has a 2MP sensor. I am looking into this. It looks like the camera software has been ported from an Amoi N820, which has a 3MP front facing camera.
With regards to overclocking and undervolting, I have not heard of any kernels for any MT6577 devices that have offered this. And I'm sure better men than me have tried!
If there is another G3 ROM that you'd like to see ported, or improvements you'd like to see made on this ROM, leave comments below
If your language is not supported, install morelocale from the Play store. You can use it to select any language you wish!
Disclaimer: As with things XDA, you do all these things entirely at your own risk, I am not responsible EVEN IF Kim Jong Un flashes this, it breaks his G3N and in a fit of rage, he declares nuclear war on everyone.
Install instructions:
First, get root and install clockworkmod following the guide here; http://www.modaco.com/topic/359590-...very-ics-spell-check-fixed-jelly-bean-update/
Then place the zip file on your SD cart, boot into recovery and install!
Flashable zip, install via the recovery of your choice. Confirmed working on CWM. This is a full ROM, not a patch.
Remember to backup your files and previous ROM!
You shouldn't need to do a full wipe if going from a 4.1.2 ROM to this, but I recommend that you do. (I didn't )
If going from a 4.04 ROM to this, you MUST do a factory reset in CWM, otherwise it won't boot.
Please don't mirror my files!
Enjoy
EDIT 14/04/2013 Lolfisch v1.1 released!
Changelog;
-Numerous build.prop tweaks to improve browsing speeds, performance and to remove USB debugging icon (USB debugging can still be enabled in settings)
-Fixed LED wakelock issue. Deep sleep mode now works, improving battery life. (Thanks to evirus for his help)
-Fixed Clock app by replacing it with 4.2 clock. If you're still getting forced close's when trying to set an alarm, clear the app's data.
-Fixed Handcent SMS incompatibility
-Updated 4.2 keyboard using a Nexus 4 ROM. Runs smoother now.
-Updated Calendar app to the one from the play store. Now the app will update automatically as it is linked to the play store
Install instructions:

Interesting, I got a score of 5659 on Antutu. Probably SD card write speeds, I guess.
I'm going to try and improve performance further by making sure V6 supercharger is implemented properly and porting thunderzap kernel if a jelly bean version is released.
The mt6577 has been reported as being overclockable to speeds of 1.4ghz. That would be an amazing performance boost! But we need source code for that, so it is quite unlikely.

I would definitely recommend Jelly Bean over ICS, even with overclock. The UI is nicer, you get Google Now, plus with project butter, you get better performance/battery drain. I'm loving this ROM's speed, plays HD videos with no lag . If you want it to run faster, you can chance the CPU governor to performance to ensure the phone is always running at max frequency. If you do, I'd recommend a tasker setup to change this when you turn the screen off. I'm currently running ondemand with screen on and powersave with screen off.

I'm not sure how kernels work but I'm pretty sure that the governor is not core specific. That's why you cant set core 1. However, I'm not sure if taker is having any effect on the CPU at all ATM!

tasker somehow works..I checked using CPU spy, frequency and governor are applied, but only one core works via SystemPanel app..so I still use tasker for "screen off" event, so I can have single core locked down at 250mhz when screen is off..

then, I can go up and down highlihting a few choices BUT can't select any, because only vol buttons seem to work
(no button seem to act as "enter" to activate the "selected" choice.
Any idea?
Thanks again!
How is battery life with your rom?
Are HD videos smoother in Jelly Bean?
Cant wait for the g3 version. Hope you finish your exams verry soon

*** Latest Build 10-11-2013 ***
For d2vzw! Note the forum you're in!
If you're as big of a fan as I am of KToonsez's KT747 kernel then you'll be happy to know there is now an updated version.
This is a forked version of KToonsez's KT747 kernel with commits pulled from the CM10.2 branch of the d2 kernel.
Disclaimer: Standard disclaimer goes here. I nor KToonsez are responsible for the actions you take when working with your phone. I've done a significant amount of testing and so have others but situations arise where a hiccup could cause data loss, IMEI loss, or phone failure. You, the flasher, assume these risks. Please make sure you backup/nandroid, use nvbackup, etc.
Note:
It has been reported that this kernel will not work with 4.3.1 ROMs, notably the latest nightlies of PAC-MAN. If you're on a 4.3.1 ROM flash with extra caution. If you find otherwise please alert me.
Branch "currentCherry" (my cherry picking branch) CI status:
Branch "mr2" (KT's 4.3 branch) CI status:
Instructions:
There seems to be an odd permissions issue that we've uncovered. Follow these exact steps so when you boot you'll have working cell data:
Reboot Recovery
Clear Caches
Flash your current ROM
Flash kernel
Reboot
Profit!!!
I'm working on clearing this up. I've verified the above process against mastamoon's unofficial CM10.2 10/07 build.

* Merged the commit for touchscreen optimizations
* Cherry-picked commit for reverting portions of the touchscreen optimizations which may cause us camera issues.
* Changed updater-script to hopefully resolve issue with no data after flashing (still researching issue)
First?
Looking forward to this
tapped from a carbonized d2vzw
ktoonsez gave the OK. Download link is now up. Please follow the instructions or you'll get no data. If you accidently goof and do this just reflash your ROM and then in the same session flash the kernel.
Thanks!

I normally don't overclock my phone doesn't do well with it. I tried 1728 and it wasn't ever using it. Then I bumped it up to 1809 and it instantly rebooted. As expected, my processor just won't do it. After the reboot the phone was still set at 1728 and it was using that frequency. So maybe requires a reboot work?

Rebooting seems to make it stick or show up in the apps where I see freq values.

OP Updated
Went through my cherry pick branch and realized I missed some commits. I missed about 2 days worth of merges at the end of August. These are now all added.
There is a gerrit reviewed commit for touchscreen optimizations (and a subsequent fix for camera issues). I'm having trouble merging this commit into my branch. I'll try to get that into the build for tomorrow.
Thanks!
Mike
Can I ask why there is a unofficial version of KT kernel? Did he drop support for s3?
Followed instructions to the letter and re-attempted 2x and still getting no data when running this kernel. Running liquidsmooth 2.10 final release. Thanks!

Shoot! Ok. Just want to ask a couple of questions to make sure I'm on the same page and I can collect some info to try and figure this out.
10/10 build? Probably a silly question since you posted after I posted the new build, but just checking.
Are you using CWM? If you are what version?
Just to be clear, are you flashing ROM and then the kernel in the same recovery session?
I'm not familiar with liquidsmooth. Is the 2.10 release version 4.3 of Android? I'm assuming it is otherwise you probably would have gotten a bootloop instead of no data.
Thanks for the feedback. It's important that I see these. I've been worried sick that there are people downloading this, having this problem, and immediately thinking that I through out something that is bunk. I want this effort to live up to the expectations that everyone has for KT's kernel. Last thing I want to do is turn people off to his great work!

I was able to flash 10/10 over 10/09 without having to flash the ROM and still have data. I have not gone from sans KT to ROM with KT on the 10/10 build.
I'm going to try to get some input from some devs. I originally thought it was the updater-script applying the wrong permissions during the flash. I did, however, change the script to mimic more how LeanKernel does its flash but that fix was put in 10/09. This along with the touchscreen fixes are my top priorities to get fixed.
See responses below. Thanks!

Yep 10/10 for sure.

Yes. 6.0.4.3

Yes, all in the same session

Eclipse build 6
I flashed the new version 10/10 on my Eclipse build 6 which is 4.3. I cleared cache, flashed rom, flashed kernel, and rebooted. No data at all. I then flashed the rom back over the top to get the other kernel and everything is fine. I am using the newest CWM.

Thanks for the reports guys. Researching this issue is proving difficult as no one seems to have documented it in the "usual" places. The only suggestion I have so far is checking to make sure the permissions are correct on everything that is flashed. I took a look at a couple of other kernel dev's updater-scripts and tried to modify this one accordingly. Flashing from 10/10 to 10/11's still gave me working data. I'm trying to follow up with a few other devs so please don't think that I'm not working on this. If you flash 10/11 please report your findings!
Thanks!

I'm going to install this. At the risk of sounding like I'm new here, if this borks my phone, I can just fastboot the stock boot image, yes?

Good job buddy, flashing now.
Does not work for me: bootloop with bootlogo and blank screen. XT1058 Latam with unlocked bootloader with T-Mobile 4.4 stock ROM. Open Recovery as custom recovery.
After restoring original boot.img from backup (made in Open Recovery) I am not able to find boot_backup.img. Looks like it is not created at all.
Installed no prob on vzw Dev. Back up is made to the root of sdcard
Installed via dhacker29's CWM6.0.4.5 recovery and the kernel works.
Kernel works good on xt1060...however....could sweep to sleep be moved to the top? I keep accidentally putting it to sleep when typing.

Anyway you could make a version for 13.11.3Q2.X-69-3-8?
It is for the XT1058 model.
Thanks OP! I can't believe it's taken this long to develop a kernel ; thanks for your efforts! What are your plans for the kernel? Cheers!
Anyone else having issues accessing the wifi settings menu? Not quite sure why the kernel would affect this, unless it cant load wifi connections, but it freezes upon entry.

Welcome to VanirAOSP. Our mission is to deliver a clean optimized version of Android to as many devices as possible. This is not a kang rom. You will find versions of the features you love that we've rewritten and improved on plus a few we wrote ourselves. we've tried to acheive a more organized and cohesive setup to improve the user experience while correcting any performance regressions and improving functionality.
If you're the kind of person that needs options to change the font and color on every letter and expect the ROM to end up looking like kid's cereal box then GTFO. You will not find customizations that are done just because someone figured out how to do them. Everything in here has a purpose and is held to a high standard of coding.
General features:
stock mode - ability revert to stock AOSP code with the exception of a few custom features we chose to keep active
enhanced performance.. longer uptime with less slowdown
custom written CRON and init.d.
minor UI and graphics improvements
custom navbar, navring, and hardware key features
active notifications (improved active display + lockscreen notifications)
usability improvements like power reboot menu and sound
animation control
Improved Vanir keyboard
CM's profiles & quicksettings
additional quicksetting tiles
immersive desktop <- fully configurable immersive mode
low profile mode
statusbar mods
clock & battery mods
lockscreen blur and other mods
soon to come -> quick cam and flash notifications
busybox, embedded root, init.d, cron etc
many improvements and new features unique to vanir
more to come when i feel like updating the op
issues:
- stop flashing the moto X binaries. they do not improve anything for you and aren't even for your device.
- open source camera and launcher3 do not have the same featuers as the google versions. use the latest

I flashed ROM yesterday and WiFi was broken and today I flashed only kernel (torched 4.8) and WiFi is working
I have to say, this ROM is very impressive! Great UI tweaks, very fast, ART works very well. The only bug I've noticed is my cell signal goes out completely for a few seconds every once in a while. Otherwise, very awesome indeed!

The latest nightly is pretty stable, been having no issues whatsoever, except the need to flash a new radio every few days or so, but that could just be due to my own location.

And also WiFi doesn't work on stock kernel. Only working with torched 4.8. I guess it's related to the latest changes with the WiFi. When I first flashed the ROM it didn't work so I flashed torched to fix it but I've had a lot of random reboots since 3-4 days so I just got back on stock kernel only to remember WiFi is broken.
Edit : still getting random reboot also on stock kernel. I'll try and grab a last_kmsg next time it happens.

Newest nightly refused to boot for me.. Just endlessly sat on the Vanir splash screen.
Vanir 4.4.4 build required
Hi,
I see that the last vanir build for evita for 4.4.4 was this vanir_evita_4.4.4.112414
But the official repo for vanir only hosts 5.0 builds. If somebody has it downloaded can you please send it to me.
Any help is much appreciated.

I love AOSP ROMs but the latest nightlies that I've installed have crashed right after the boot. Please, look into that.
