[ROM] Lolfisch v1.0 for the Jiayu G3N - Miscellaneous Android Development

Welcome to my thread for the Jiayu G3N, the new release of the G3 with the s501 chip.
I have ported GThrill ROM v3.0 to the G3N.
GThrill is based on Cyanogenmod 10. It is Jelly bean 4.1.2. There is currently no theme support, but I'll look into that in future builds.
Details of the GThrill ROM can be found here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2163707
This ROM should have all the features of the official ROM, (and more!) the only changes are behind-the-scenes.
Features
- based on "CM10"
- Jellybean 4.1.2
- system/framework zipaligned
- init.d support
- zipalign on the fly (script by Wes Garner)
- slim and light: removed unwanted apps
- host file (to block known ad servers/hosts)
- some build.prop tweaks from different sources
- contains some lines from V6 supercharger script (by zeppelinrox, particularly kernel tweaks)
- Jellybean Keyboard (SWIPE feature)
- Google Chrome browser (bundled stock browser FCs)
- Language: English, French, Chinese, German,
Confirmed working;
Bluetooth
Wifi
GPS
Yet to be tested;
FM Radio
Known bugs;
Front camera is dark and seems to take dark pictures. Setting the mode to night and then back again fixed this. Bizzarely, the front camera seems to be taking 3MP images although it only has a 2MP sensor. I am looking into this. It looks like the camera software has been ported from an Amoi N820, which has a 3MP front facing camera.
With regards to overclocking and undervolting, I have not heard of any kernels for any MT6577 devices that have offered this. And I'm sure better men than me have tried!
If there is another G3 ROM that you'd like to see ported, or improvements you'd like to see made on this ROM, leave comments below
If your language is not supported, install morelocale from the Play store. You can use it to select any language you wish!
Disclaimer: As with things XDA, you do all these things entirely at your own risk, I am not responsible EVEN IF Kim Jong Un flashes this, it breaks his G3N and in a fit of rage, he declares nuclear war on everyone.
Install instructions:
First, get root and install clockworkmod following the guide here; http://www.modaco.com/topic/359590-...very-ics-spell-check-fixed-jelly-bean-update/
Then place the zip file on your SD cart, boot into recovery and install!
Flashable zip, install via the recovery of your choice. Confirmed working on CWM. This is a full ROM, not a patch.
Remember to backup your files and previous ROM!
You shouldn't need to do a full wipe if going from a 4.1.2 ROM to this, but I recommend that you do. (I didn't )
If going from a 4.04 ROM to this, you MUST do a factory reset in CWM, otherwise it won't boot.
Please don't mirror my files!
Enjoy
EDIT 14/04/2013 Lolfisch v1.1 released!
Changelog;
-Numerous build.prop tweaks to improve browsing speeds, performance and to remove USB debugging icon (USB debugging can still be enabled in settings)
-Fixed LED wakelock issue. Deep sleep mode now works, improving battery life. (Thanks to evirus for his help)
-Fixed Clock app by replacing it with 4.2 clock. If you're still getting forced close's when trying to set an alarm, clear the app's data.
-Fixed Handcent SMS incompatibility
-Updated 4.2 keyboard using a Nexus 4 ROM. Runs smoother now.
-Updated Calendar app to the one from the play store. Now the app will update automatically as it is linked to the play store
Install instructions:
Flashable zip, install via the recovery of your choice. Confirmed working on CWM & TWRP recoveries. This is a full ROM, not a patch.

There is an MT6577 custom kernel but different phone..let me look that up for you..

first impressions: great rom! smooth and everything works, except for the clock which FCs when trying to set the alarm. Same as was reported with Gthrill..

Glad to hear good feedback on the whole. I plan to replace the clock with the 4.2.2 clock at some point (I have university exams in just over a week but will do it straight after that

clock is not a biggie..you can always download Alarm Clock+, 100% better than stock..camera seems better than stock..must be placebo, but still..
EDIT: flashed this through TWRP..kinda sad to think that this one's too good, I don't think a rom could get smoother..oh yeah, Theme Support please!
Sent from my JY-G3N using Tapatalk 2

Antutu v3.2.2 on this ROM: 5,500
Stock 4.0.4 G3N: 5,300
Lolfisch significantly smoother despite the 200 point difference..
Sent from my JY-G3N using Tapatalk 2

It's possible to include Spanish translation to this ROM?
Thanks

Interesting, I got a score of 5659 on Antutu. Probably SD card write speeds, I guess.
I'm going to try and improve performance further by making sure V6 supercharger is implemented properly and porting thunderzap kernel if a jelly bean version is released.
The mt6577 has been reported as being overclockable to speeds of 1.4ghz. That would be an amazing performance boost! But we need source code for that, so it is quite unlikely.

what's thunderzap?
as for the scores, I got a class 4 microsd..
and for the kernel sources, we do have one for ICS..not quite why mediatek/jiayu haven't released them yet..
thanks for the rom, and Goodluck on the exams!
EDIT: Thudeezap is a custom kernel which allows OC and other tweaks, but ICS only..I wonder: OC ICS vs stock kernel JB, performance-wise, which is better?

Morelocale2 was great for translating, but now I face antoher little problem. When I isntalled Foursquare receive this message "This device isn't compatible with Play services". What does it mean? Did I something wrong? All oher apps (Twitter, Dropbox, Instagram) seem to work properly...

Yeah, thunderzap is the thing you sent me, silly
I would definitely recommend Jelly Bean over ICS, even with overclock. The UI is nicer, you get Google Now, plus with project butter, you get better performance/battery drain. I'm loving this ROM's speed, plays HD videos with no lag . If you want it to run faster, you can chance the CPU governor to performance to ensure the phone is always running at max frequency. If you do, I'd recommend a tasker setup to change this when you turn the screen off. I'm currently running ondemand with screen on and powersave with screen off.

GOOD NEWS
Wakelock bug was reported to me yesterday. I thought it was fixed in Gthrill but apparently not. However, thanks to evirus, I've been able to fix the issue for our ROM. See the first post for a .zip file that patches the issue on both G3&G3N versions of Gthrill

Tasker is a great idea..but I noticed that I can't set CPU 1, so all I get is 1 core running at Performance governor

I'm not sure how kernels work but I'm pretty sure that the governor is not core specific. That's why you cant set core 1. However, I'm not sure if taker is having any effect on the CPU at all ATM!

tasker somehow works..I checked using CPU spy, frequency and governor are applied, but only one core works via SystemPanel app..so I still use tasker for "screen off" event, so I can have single core locked down at 250mhz when screen is off..

nice job! Thanks!
I'll try your rom next week. :good:
One strange thing (G3N, stock rom ics 4.0):
if I press/hold the VOL- button (+ the power button) I boot into "factory mode"
then, I can go up and down highlihting a few choices BUT can't select any, because only vol buttons seem to work
(no button seem to act as "enter" to activate the "selected" choice.
Any idea?
Thanks again!
How is battery life with your rom?
Are HD videos smoother in Jelly Bean?

Cant wait for the g3 version. Hope you finish your exams verry soon

Hi,
Thanks for your effort. A few concerns though - some people had problems with 1190MHz during boot. Does the kernel include the fix to prevent this? Also, what's the default governor? Is it running from 245-998 MHz by default?

It runing 245 - 1190 by default with interactive governor + scaling by screenstate.
If ppl will report about problems with that speed i'll revert it to defaults. But yet i found out that this specific kernel works flawless on such speed
Give it a try

downloading now. will flash it once i'm done with work. cheers.
as expected i'm stuck at the cyanogenmod bootanim
i did full wipe. i guess you need to include snq-'s bootfix so that the frequency doesn't jump to 1190MHz during boot. also you may wanna lower the default max frequency to 1152MHz or lower. just a suggestion.
Interesting, i checked on 4 Desire phones and had no problems.
Is it bootlooping? If it is can u post logcat?
If it doesn't than i think you should wait a little longer, it takes about 10minutes for the first boot.
Also i will change few things in upcoming version to make the first boot a little faster

here's the logcat. now it's bootlooping a few times on the cyanogen bootanimation, then it will reboot from splash screen. it keeps repeating in that pattern.
That is not kernel/cpu issue, the trouble is in my server which became DDoSed after i posted url for the rom here -.- Tried to DL it from my server and flash and got same error.
Anyway new version will come in few days and will host it on dropbox ^_^

Do games run better on Stock, ICS Custom, or JB Custom?

I'm sort of underwhelmed by the gaming performance on cm10 w/ katkernel.
Which version of CM are you running? The 'official' has some pretty outdated code from my understanding. Secondly, which governor, I/O scheduler are you using, and finally, are you overclocked?
I'm finding nothing in the Play Store that won't run very well on my tablet with the setup I have right now.
I believe I'm on raymans cm10 version November 29 with Kat kernel #70 at 1.4ghz. I use noop and the performance governor.

I've been using team eos4 JB4.2 with kat #70 kernel and over clock at 1400 and it runs extremely smooth on all my games. From this we can say that a custom rom of your preference would be the best idea...

I have tested many ROMs, and currently, RaymanFX's 4.2 JB ROM is my favourite. Even though the rear cam is not working when using the stock Camera app, you can download many other camera apps from Google Play (I can use my rear cam with Skype on this ROM). HDMI and GPS works on my TF101 so I don't know why Ray put that it's not working on his thread.
I have compared The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises' framerate, gameplay and lag difference between Stock ICS and Rayman's ROM:
------------------------------------------------------------Stock ICSJB 4.2 ROMTHE AMAZING SPIDER-MANLags: Yes - unplayable.Lags: No - smooth as iPad.Framerate: Bad - like 5 FPSFramerate: Awesome - smooth, no lags.Gameplay: Bad - just unplayableGameplay: Awesome - smooth, no lags. just awesome.THE DARK KNIGHT RISESLags: Yes - first mission works nice until you must fly.Lags: No - smooth and fun.Framerate: Bad - bad, but better than Spider-Man.Framerate: Awesome - smooth.Gameplay: Bad - you must have patience to play it lol.Gameplay: Awesome - smooth, no lags. just awesome.------------------------------------------------------------
I recommend you to flash it through TWRP as it is the ONLY recovery that did NOT bricked my TF101, and I may also recommend you to make a full backup with TWRP on an External MicroSD card (check System, Recovery, Data and the other ones you see in there) so you will not brick it, and if you will, you could just restore it. Make sure to wipe EVERYTHING (system, cache, dalvik cache and factory reset) before flashing! Do not forget to root your device before doing this, and after rooting, I recommend to backup your apps and games with TitaniumBackup so you can send your savegames to the custom ROM.
After flashing it, install AnTuTu's CPU Master Free and overclock it to: Minimum - 216 MHz; Maximum - 1600 MHz so you'll enjoy the games smoother than before.
I hope I have helped you. I am not responsable with any brick, damage or anything else but, in case of, please post here a reply with your issue so I'll try to help you. Good luck!

Hey... how do u flash TWRP recovery? I downloaded the zip and tried to flash ti through CM and it didn't work. Right now my tablet is crap, I tried flashing the Android 4.2 ROM and it just booted my older ROM (team EOS).
Awesome little review. 4.2 seems pretty cool, I read its not as smooth but faster in apps and to launch apps?

Stock ICS is the only thing that works for me. Everything else is laggy, buggy, missing features or simply unusable. Stock is nice and flows cleanly without lag (as long as you don't have 100 resource hogging apps running).

Switching from RaymanFX's CM recovery I had to do this twice, but it worked.
For a non laggy, non buggy Jellybean experience with EOS4 read this from timduru. I can guarantee that if you upgrade your tablet properly you'll get at least a 100% performance increase over the stock rom, with minimum bugs. In my opinion I feel the setup in my signature is closer to three times the performance that my tablet had when it came out of it's box a year ago with honeycomb.
Ive now noticed that gta3 for instance runs better on ics arhd, but yet clearly jb is smoother in the launcher and almost every other app (cnn, browser)
I wonder why that is...

You will not notice any differences in App performance between ROMs if you do it's simply a placebo effect.
The only way to achieve a noticeable difference with App performance is to overclock your hardware.
Do any of you get the random screen flicker (flashing/blinking) while in games?

The Thread is open I hope that anyone with a Cruz T301 is still interested in this ROM. Most people have moved on but I figured I would provide files downloads and help. Anyone that wants to play around with my update and put different things into can. Feel free to use it as a base for other Roms.
Awesome.. Don't quit now! Over clock kernel would be the best thing it's ever seen!
Been using this rom for a few days now and I love it... it's fast, sleek and haven't had any problems with it... excluding the root issue..
Any updates on when the root issue is going to be fixed? I've tried my hand at rooting it myself but keep running into the dreaded "SU: unknown user root" issue.

It is in the works, but I keep running into bootloop issues with A3 that I am trying to smooth out before releasing it. Currently an ETA isn't available... But I promise It is in the works!
Soo any updates?
Problem with Opera
Hello,
First thank you for this great work.
I installed Resurrection 2.2.1 version without problem.
By cons when I try to install Opera message says "your device is not compatible."
Same with Firefox. Any idea?
Thank you for your answers.
Excuse my bad English is not my native language!
Works great! Thanks Feyer
Hi I am a noob android enthusiast that got a t301 from a friend to mess around with. After reading a lot of your earlier forum work on this project I decided to try the Alpha Resurrection and it works great Thank you soooooo much for making this tablet useful again! Your tweaks and deletions of garbage was just what this baby needed. Don't know where we would all be without yourself and Steven J Hill, but thanks to you both. I signed up for xda just to tell ya that. Your directions were clear and worked great! I think some folks that were having probs may not have cleared out all caches like you suggest, as I have encountered similar probs on other roms. All in all a great ROM and it has been fun reading the forums and watching ya grow into your own dev self Keep up the great work and I'll keep watching for updates.
Great development

No I have no clue how to develop a kernel... had a few guys peeter out on me with development and so I have slowed down on making a new version. For some reason Root doesn't hold and I have tried all the tricks I know. It is weird developing for MiPS
I had never heard of MiPS before this tablet. But I'm starting to mess with developing, so I'll give a kernel a go when I get to that point

Yea it seems like MIPS is generally used in china only and so development is very limited. You can always swing by http://www.imgtec.com/mips/developers/ and get started there... kinda a pain to work with since I have not really found any other developers to help me out I'm not really an experienced dev haha

I will see what I can do. I tried to compile my first kernel (for my phone) last night and got an error, gonna try to fix it today and get it compiled. Once I do, I'll look into this, and definitely take a look at that link.

Well if you find success let me know and I will take a crack at adding it to the updated version of the ROM. I am still trying to find out why it doesn't allow super user access. It has been a real puzzler.
I tried to run cpu-z to get some info on the device. It installed, but crashes on launch >.<

[Q] Performance on YOUR Nexus S

Hi all. I've had my mob off & on for a while and decided to upgrade to SlimBean ROM based on recommendations - after having decided a new ROM would be the best way to improve performance, and assuming that the latest one would be the best.
I've found the performance to be equally sluggish after a week or so of bedding in, and I'm still using the same low number of apps.
Two questions:
1. Are others out there experiencing snappy, low-lag, fast, fun mobile computing on this device while rocking the latest android build, either stock or with a custom ROM?
2. Are any others out there rocking older stock/ROMs to minimise OS overhead?
2b. or old/custom apk versions of apps to decrease bloat?
Cheers in advance
Dez
All I can tell you is my what works for me......
I broke my Epic 4G Touch so I had to activate the Nexus S 4G until I pull the trigger on a new phone. I went with the Stock rooted 4.1.1 and Matrix kernel overclocked. It runs much faster and with less lag then my nephew's NS4G running CM10.1 ROM. I showed him the difference and he is (I will be) flashing it back for him.

Interesting, thanks Steve.
What are you like regarding apps & widgets? "The bare essentials" or "everything I want"?
I'm resurrecting this phone for a friend, and I'm also wondering what ROM to flash.
All I can tell you is that when I upgraded this to 4.2 last year it was unusable, especially with Google Now enabled. The phone simply ran too slow on anything 4.x for me - perhaps consider using a 2.4 ROM?
I haven't had a phone have call quality or sound quality anywhere near the Nexus S since. 2.4 + Voodoo Sound was good stuff.
Slim 4.3 beta 1 with greenify app. That's all you need to keep it fresh all the time. And use slimsizer to reduce bloat.
And don't forget to enable "Allow purging of assets" and "Kernel samepage merging" in Settings>Advanced Options>Performance>Memory Management

Thanks. Is that beta stable enough for daily use? I assume those memory management options are only available in the 4.3 builds, as 'Performance' doesn't appear to be an available option.
Am I right in thinking there's a list somewhere of which apps I can safely remove with SlimSizer?
And is greenify similar to LagFIx, or is it worth having both?
Cheers!

Yes it's stable enough for daily use. Don't change kernels (for now).
Those memory management options were present in Cyanogenmod ROMs way back Jelly Bean 4.1 so they're present on most non-stock ROMs. (different location in settings menu)

Nope. Different functions. But yes it CAN be worth having both if you think they're boosting your phone's performance.
In my case, i only use greenify.

Strange. On SlimBean 4.2.2, look under all the settings options and found nothing regarding memory or performance...

Been on Slim Bean 4.3 Beta 1 for a day now and having no issues. The ROM image is only 84 mb, I don't think you'll be needing SlimSizer! Use the memory performance settings, they make all the difference. I'm not using greenify or lagfix yet, so far unnecessary. I'm pretty amazed this is running 4.3 as well as it is.
Just run rasbeanjelly and matrix done!

I'm waiting to hear back from an app developer on how to back that up, which means I've not installed SlimBean 4.3 yet but intend to asap.

A question: the installation info says:
Step 0: You must be rooted!
Step 1: Download the Busybox installer app and install the Busybox to /system/xbin
Step 2: Reboot to recovery and install the BM.Tweaks.NEXUS.S.zip file.
So my full Rom upgrade should be:
1 full wipe (means: wipe data / factory reset and format /system)
2 install Slim 4.3 ROM
3 install Slim 4.3 gapps
4 Reboot
5 install Busybox to /system/xbin
6 Reboot to recovery and install the BM.Tweaks.NEXUS.S.zip file
7 install LagFix & Greenify (for reference. they should auto-install for me through the play store)
Anyone think the above process is in the wrong order or any parts are a bad idea or clash with each other?
Cheers for all the tips guys, this is feeling like a pretty useful thread!
