Gear manager immediate force close - Samsung Gear 2

I can't find anything on this.
So I'm trying to pair my Galaxy S5 with the Gear2 - it can see the Gear 2 on bluetooth, but there's no prompt to pair.
Gear Manager pops up an error message very quickly and force closes.
I don't particularly want to have to sign up with a samsung account and/or use their app store on my phone - is there any way around this?

i believe you need to have a Samsung app store account. how else will you have access to the thousands of great apps for the Gear 2 without one... lol, but seriously, no account no acess. there are few (if any) apps in android play store. Gear 2 runs on tizen, not Android.
as for the F/C, try uninstalling everything and try again. my Gear 2 paired up with my Note 3 right away.

I found a version of Gear manager as an apk download that runs, but you're right - what you can do with it is highly restricted.
I'm a little more privacy-aware than most android users, and as a result I'm probably not going to use the device much if it's locked to a corporate app store.

The apps download to your phone which transfers them to your watch. The only possible apps I can think of that might expose your watch data are fitness apps that transfer your stats back to the phone. Watch faces, games, etc. don't share any data but still, the only way to get them is through the Samsung App Store.

[Q] Gear 2 apps not showing up

So I downloaded quite a bit of apps for my gear 2 from the Samsung store e.g. appy geek. They don't show up on apps and if I click on the app from the store, it says view app in gear manager, but just shows gear manager home page. Any suggestions ?
Thanks

Same here! Did anyone solve this problem? Sometimes I download and install an app but it isn't visible in my G2. And in this way, I can't even uninstall it, since the problem is the same mrsimpson described.

Check your device is compatible, as the connection of your gear to your phone would depend on your version of Android. Also check in the samsung apps (galaxy apps) store instead of the Play store
Anyone found a solution yet?
I managed to run my gear 2 on my htc one m7, i installed apps to my phone but it creates no Icon on my watch as it should...
Anyone knows how to fix that?
Rooting device / watch?

I have a VZW S4 (SCH-i545), running Hyperdrive RLS19 and a Samsung Gear 2 Neo (SM-R381), Samsung Apps v14040104.21.007.1, Samsung Gear v2.2.14110499.
I cannot seem to dl and install gear 2 apps and have those apps show in gear manager or on the gear 2 itself.
I even tried moving the apk from downloads to system >apps, but move fails.
The process shows the black, "save file" then "install file" windows, that take up the entire screen
In what folder are Gear apps supposed to be stored, for use?
ETA: So I changed phones. I am now trying the Neo with an S4 on MDK and the Bonestock 1.1.4 ROM.
Every app I have tried has shown on the Neo. Both Watcher and Watch Styler.
The issue now is that when I get out of range and the Neo disconnects BT, it does not auto re-connect upon returning within range.
With the other phone it auto re-connected every time, but most apps would show. GRRR!

Well I can’t even update, when I launch Gear manager, it says there is a update, it downloads and when it starts installing app crashes… And if I cancel the update it won’t let me go in the manager.
So I can’t use my Gear manager, the notifications are still pushed to the watch.

Thanks for heads up, I have succeeded to update from Samsung Galaxy Apps, so updating directly from gear manager fails and after update it wouldn’t connect to my Gear Neo after couple tries it is connected now.
And now I was trying to open up Gear manager again it said there is a update… Again it fails through the app itself but when I open it from Samsung App store it updated another 3 files. It connects again to my gear and app version is 2.2.14092499 now.
So I thought it is working and tried to open Gear manager and it says still there is an update, checked in Samsung App store and there is no update there, if I try to update from the Gear app itself, I get same problem as above.
I will wait to see how Samsun fix these issue, did reboot and cleared the cashes several times on my first try too, it doesn’t help. I am not going to install the ones you posted above, not that I trust that but just to wait and see what Samsung does about this.

I had the same problem as you. The only thing that could solve my problem was to uninstall Gear Manager from Samsung store and install it again.
Maybe you have have tried this already.
Skickat från min GT-N7100 via Tapatalk
There was a reason why I didn't do that. I didn't want to loose my Gear apps.
But after your suggestion, I removed the app and reinstalled again. The app version is still same as the one I mentioned above. But I had to install all my Gear apps again because Gear is pushed to factory reset, which is not so big problem if the Gear app store didn't have constant network issues.
At least after a while I could install everything back but now I didn't have the wstheme files on the watch. Put those back on the watch again and I can use my favorite app Multi-Watch again.
Bit stupid of Samsung, if you ask me. Pushing a update which cause problems. I am not the only one since in the app reviews at Galaxy app store more people complain about it.
I had to factory reset two times in two weeks because of Gear Manager updates.
As you said I needed to install everything again on my Gear. But I haven't seen any improvements with these updates and Gear appstore and Samsung Galaxy appstore sucks with network connection. At least they could send us an update log.

Totally agree with you. It is not like I am side loading apps on my Gear, 4 of these apps are paid apps so a better restore abilities wouldn't hurt anything, and time consuming installs with a lot network issues on Samsung server side is really annoying.
I think my Galaxy note 2 will be my last Samsung phone for a while. I have had too much problem with their own software since I've started to use Galaxy S and now Note2. Problem with the phones software, problem with Kies and now with the Gear's software.
Good hardware, but bad software.

Milk music

I know milk music isn't available for non Samsung phones, but shouldn't there be a way to install it on the Samsung watch? It seems like the watch is partially crippled by me having a non Samsung device.
Does anyone know of a way?
@paoloroeseke, were you ever able to find an answer to this? I just purchased an S2 and I haven't been able to find anything on this; only how to install Milk Music onto my phone. Thanks!
use a file manager to sideload it. Same thing for any geo-restricted app. If you plan on using those geo-apps regularly, do like me, create a new Google account with some us address, then use a VPN when you want to download restricted apps while switching to that american account. I've been doing that for years and have never had any problem, then only thing you need, at least I did, is a deposit of US funds. I simply bought a 10$ Google Play card from ebay.
@polish_pat,
I actually live in the US, I just do not have a Samsung phone. Milk music is only accesible via the Play/Gear stores on samsungs. I have filesmaster, i just cant seem to locate a Milk Music .wgt file to push over. Would you by chance know of (or have) one I could try?

You will not be able to sideload the app on non samsung devices. MilkMusic is a re-skinned Slacker Radio app. It requires some Samsung frameworks only available on Galaxy devices. This is a deal they have signed with Slacker in order to reduce ads and interruptions for free users and reduce monthly cost for premium users. I know there are some mods that either reskin the slacker app to look like milk or trick the app to emulate a galaxy, but those have been killed by Samsung overtime. Still worth giving it a shot, check out the link below

Thanks a ton for taking the time to respond. Funny enough, I actually found that link yesterday after i had posted, and was in fact able to sideload the samsung account app as well as whatever old version of Milk that is. Don't bust your balls with that, I have a Note 5 and have issues with milk on my gear as well, I can't even imagine a non-samsung user. My problem is my location. I'm able to trick the phone to play milk in Canada, but the watch keeps asking to install "com.samsung.mdl.radio.gear.providero" but when it launches galaxy apps it says the app is not available for my device. It seems to be geo-restricted and somehow the watch is able to see through my VPN.
As for your issue, let me try and pull the file from my watch if I find a free filemanager as I don't have any credit card on file with my samsung account.

I have the same issue. I live in Korea and have a Korean S5 and an American Gear 2S. I use a VPN for my Milk Music, but I get an error trying to install the helper. There is actually a different version of Milk Music here simply called Milk. Since I am defaulted to the Korean Gear Apps store anyways, I even tried installing their version of the helper which requires their version of Milk as well. The helper installs fine but when I get to the Milk install it also fails citing that I do not have an official samsung firmware on my phone.......go figure. Anyways, I haven't given up on trying yet, and if you find a fix before me, please let me know. I will do the same for you. I have thought of trying to do a rest on the watch while at home with my router running the VPN/DNS and also not allowing any location until after attemping. But I worry that because my phone defaults to the Korean Galaxy App Store( and I tried many ways around it, bottom line it is a Korean phone) I will be doing it in vain.

Dont bother when I set up my watch I was in the United States for 2 weeks after that. My guess is it's not seeing through the vpn, or location but more the Samsung Account info. Same thing happened when i bought a pair of multiroom speakers a few years back...the multiroom app prevented me to use Pandora within the multiroom app while streaming to all speakers that were paired. What's funny is as soon as I closed the multiroom app and launched the pandora app on its own, it worked, but i had to stream by Bluetooth to one speaker only. Something tells me they use the account info to filter us

I finally got it. I decided to give it a shot and it worked. i threw my wife's SiM card US Sim card in and was able to access the US store and download the helper. Once it is installed you can go back to using Milk with the VPN and all is well with the helper app and using the watch to control it. If you are able to find a US sim card, it doesn't matter the status of the card as long as it is a US sim card.

Samsung Gear Apps [store]

Why can I see paid apps in the store only by using a Samsung phone?
Anybody? And will Samsung change that soon?

Got the same problem, with HTC One M9 + Gear s2...
The reason is, that the Samsung App Store has an own payment method instead of goole play store's method...
At the moment, you cant pay for samsung app on a non-samsung device, so it doesnt listing the paid apps, only the free ones...
BUT: today, i've signed in with my accounnt on a samsung mobile device (galaxy 24 mini), paired my watch, paid some apps, installed it.
when i have paired it back again with my M9, the installed apps disappeared (soft reset when pairing a deivce), and the apps that i paid on a samsung device, still doesnt appears on the M9 store
Just an idea, tried it out, but doesnt work
is there any way, to save the app from the watch (when i bought is, and installed it from a samsung device), and re install it (with the saved installer) from the non-samsung device?

I imagine there are technical problems for Samsung to make paid apps open to all, but it can't be an insurmountable problem, and it would be good for consumers and developers if they opened the paid apps to non-Samsung phones. Samsung is a giant corporation and so not particularly easy to contact or persuade, but I wonder if developers started a petition that might help persuade Samsung to fix this situation.
I've got a oneplus one - just wondering if they're are any worthwhile paid apps that I'm missing out on?

It mainly depends on what you want to do with your watch. I bought the app My Notes in Gear. It let's you create notes and task lists on your phone and sync these with your watch. I am also using komoot which is a free app but didn't show in the Gear store with a non Samsung phone. For me it was reason enough to switch the phone...
I am not hundred percent sure. I was having the same issue (not a big deal as I also had a Samsung phone, so I switched). When utilizing a Samsung phone, there are way more free applications and the paid applications are accessible too. Also, I believe the store has a slightly different layout.
I read somewhere that said someone contacted Samsung. They replied saying that they were working on a fix, but the reason was that they weren't able to accept payments (or some other payment issue) on non-Samsung devices.
I am sure it will be fixed soon. Hold tight!
If I connect my gear s2 to a Samsung phone to get access to paid apps and watchfaces and download them to the watch will they still be there when I switch back to my non Samsung phone?
I'm mainly talking about watch faces at this time. It seems like all the good digital ones are hidden to me now.
And maybe ultimately a good thing, but with the most recent Gear app update (for your phone), the layout of the app changed, and I noticed a recommended app at the bottom that wouldn't install. I suspect this app (can't recall which one) was an app that Samsung phone users can install, and the rest of us can't. My theory is this was either an outright error, or may portend non-Samsung phone users eventually getting access to at least more apps, if not paid apps.

if you pairing the watch to other device, every time you need to soft reset is (than the installed apps is gone). :crying:

Just flashed stock Android O to my pixel xl then rooted. Samsung pay doesn't seem to even start whereas before with root it would start but then say it doesn't work on a rooted device. This would leave me to believe that SPay didn't work yet on Android O. Can anyone offer input on this? Thanks
Was just about to come and ask the same question. I know it was not working at all on the Beta of Android Oreo but I thought it would on the official build but nope, looks like we gotta wait for Samsung to update something...the Spay app or the gear app...dunno.

Is your gear S3 actually working on Android O? When I was on DP4 on my Pixel I could not even connect it to my phone and the gear app wasn't compatible via the play store either

Mine is working on O. I get all my notifications and everything like before, just SPay won't even start.
Same Here cant get Samsung Pay to install on Pixel running Oreo then obviously cant setup on my Frontier
Same here with my Nexus 6P, everything except Spay seems to be working fine.
Joined the Android Beta program last week in order to get the 8.0 OTA on my Pixel without waiting. As others have noted, everything else works fine (mostly) but Samsung Pay doesn't open and delivers a crash dialog when opening the Gear app. Also visiting the Play Store no longer shows the Pay app at all, and going to the Play Store on my PC while logged into my Google account lets me get to the Pay app page, but it's marked "This app is incompatible with your device." So, no way to reinstall. (Also, the Pay app is no longer in the launcher or in the Gear applications list.)
I assumed I was out of luck probably until Samsung releases Oreo on their phones, when I'd expect an 8.0-compatible version of the Gear and Pay apps to be available. HOWEVER, in scrolling through my running apps today on my Pixel, what should I see in the list? SAMSUNG PAY. Running in the background. Well, I thought, what if I just access the Storage page and clear the cache and data and restart it? VOILA! I used my watch (not the phone!) to launch Pay, and it immediately opened the setup dialog on my phone. I was able to sign back into my Samsung Pay account and re-add all my credit cards without any problem, and everything is now working fine.
EXCEPT -- the Pay app still doesn't appear in the Launcher or in the Gear apps list, so I guess it's running in some weird stealth mode. But it's running, which is all I care about. So if SPay isn't working for you after updating to Oreo, try Settings > Apps, find the app in the list, go to Storage, and delete data and cache. Launch Pay from the watch and see if it works.
(Note that I am on the OTA install, which means my phone wasn't wiped to install Oreo and the Pay app was still on the phone. If you flashed from the bootloader and you are installing from scratch I think you're out of luck since there's no way to reinstall Pay just yet.)

I accidentally uninstalled Samsung Gear trying to fix this issue. How can I get the Samsung Gear apk again? Is there any way you can pull the APK (AirDroid makes this very easy) and you can upload it?
Found a solution on Pixel XL using Oreo (OPR6) which is rooted using SuperSU and has SU Hide.
1. Download Samsung Pay for Android Wear
2. Download Samsung Pay framework
3. Install both
4. Hide both in SU Hide (tap each app once)
5. Turn off AdGuard (probably just me) to connect to server
6. add cards and let the cashiers be wowed by the magic of the gear S3
*Edit*- I will add that Samsung Pay doesn't show up in the Samsung Gear app or in the apps listed on the watch (shows SPAY version 0.0.1), but SPAY will open when you use the watch.

Thanks so much but is there any way you can upload the Samsung Gear app itself? The main one? The one for non-Samsung phones? It absolutely refuses to show up in the Google Play Store because I am on 8.0

Here is the link for the full Samsung Gear app.
Edit: read your post wrong. Here is the link for the gear app not the SPay app.

That's really strange -- I'm on 8.0 and never had any problem seeing the Gear app in the Play Store, only the SPay app. Have you tried accessing the Play Store from your PC while logged into your Google Account? When you do that, the Gear app will always show up -- it will just tell you if it's able to be installed on your device or if your device is incompatible. What does it say?

It says my device is incompatible. Does not matter if I am doing it on the phone or on the PC! What could be wrong?

anyone managed to get this to work with the latest version
i'm on pixel but since there's no magisk yet
we can only use suhide but samsung pay still detect root
maybe it's because of busybox but i can't find busybox anywhere
does supersu use busybox? i looked in xbin, system/bin. still nothing
Hi there,
running OmniROM without root, but the Samsung Pay still shows me my phone is rooted. Is there any app to trick the Samsung app? I see you are mentioning SUHIDE, but I don't want to root. Thanks

I believe omnirom has busybox as part of the ROM itself. SPay detects Busybox as root and therefore won't work.
Hi, I have a Pixel XL running Oreo 8.1 DP2 and planning to ditch my Huawei watch for a Gear S3 Classic.
1) Is the compatibility good between Pixel and S3? (Accessing messages on my watch and customizing the watch faces are not big deal for me). Notifications, health tracking are what important for me.
2) Is Samsung Pay working on 8.1? SPay is the main reason I want to switch other than the better battery.
Is it a good idea switching from Android Wear to Tizen if my phone is Google Pixel?
Thanks in advance guys.
FYI, used this tutorial for my Huawei Mate 10 Pro and it worked like a charm! Thanks!!!
