Android Police Article About Bug - "Bug Caused Devices To Download Stock 4.4.3 Update Repeatedly And Obliterate Data Caps"
How can I fix this issue without flashing a copy of the latest build? I ask only bc im running Beanstalk rom which hasn't been updated in a while and I'd really like to stay on it. Any Ideas?

you need to read that article again. it doesnt say aosp, it clearly says its a cm bug. and the title is "CyanogenMod 11 M6 Bug Caused Devices To Download Stock 4.4.3 Update Repeatedly And Obliterate Data Caps, Fixed In Newly Released M7 Build".

Only reason I left "CM" out is because of this comment. Is this not true?

If you let the page load, it links to a comment stating "It isn't really the fault of cm devs. You'd face the exact same problem even if you compiled aosp and added Google apps to them."

generally, if you have root, and modified anything in your system, youll get an ota but it wont install. at that point, it would redownload itself eventually for an other attempt . itll stop if you update the rom manually. but if you never update, itll keep attempting. but that isnt a bug.

Awesome. Can you help now or are you only interested in nitpicking the wording used?
Is there a way to stop the update from downloading over and over without flashing a new rom?

i dont nitpick wording, never ever have, as not all of us use english as a first or second language. anyways, busy i always am, since i spend lots of time here helping people while im busy at work. how exactly to stop it, i dont know for sure as i have never tried(never been an issue for me). what you can try if you have root is install the disable service app from the play store, open it, go to system apps, find google play services, then disable SystemUpdateService. but really, im not sure

After 4.1 ive had lines flickering across the screen. I religously checked for updates each day until it found one, but before applying it i checked online for patchnotes, where i discovered it wouldnt address any issues i was having. Ive had this update in my notification area since then but now there is an even newer update that i do want, but would like to skip the one thats already downloaded from before, because most of these updates break my device until i wipe/reset my device. id like to minimize the risks involved in the patch.
Tl;dr: how do i delete/forget a pending ota update that has already been downloaded and ready for install?

Tibu won't necessarily help you as you need to be rooted.
Either try a cold boot by holding down vol down and power until options pop up or factory reset. I would also take the latest Asus update. It fixes some issues.
Hi, I read that anyone with a developer's account can access the developers' preview build of Android L, that was supposed to be available today, I have a developer's account (to upload apps to the market) but I don't see any build of android L, is this the required account? or is there any other type of account required? thanks!

I guess it'll be available in a few hours.
I guess they just haven't released it, yet.
Don't forget their different timezone.
Thank you all, maybe I'm getting too desperate I just wanted to confirm that my account is the right one, I'll be refreshing until it appears, thanks again!
EDIT: I believe being rooted would not be a problem at the moment of the installation, right? I know that I'll lose root after that, but as long as the actual installation does not give me problems, it's fine.

Considering that the images will have to be flashed through fastboot, you'll probably lose root and everything else on data/system partitions (unless they don't wipe it, but I think it does).

As long as you don't flash the userdata.img, all /sdcard data will be fine. You don't have to flash userdata.img to bump android versions! System, boot would do just fine (and bootloader if they bump it as well)
Or you could just wait till a flashable zip is posted. Someone will have one up within hours of release.

Unless they changed the folder structure like they did a few releases ago - if they did, best to do a clean install.
I'm backing up right now just in case.
Don't wanna mess with the installation script by flashing some things and not others (although there would be virtually no risk by flashing system and boot partition), but better safe than sorry, after all, we can just shove everything back when finished
Consider ir a backup routine, and you'll have an updated bk

That's an entirely different scenario. Each and everyone of us would need to wipe clean if that happens but usually a system and boot flash would do just fine
The N5 has been my FIRST of many, many, many Android phones and even Windows Pocket PC phones that I haven't felt the need to unlock/root etc. Everything has just worked great on it and I have always been able to do everything I wanted to do from this phone. I have been so satisfied with the phone that it has kept me away from XDA for a while. Don't know if that is a good thing or bad, lol. I used to be on this site for hours every single day and now I feel like I am light years behind in rooting. HA!
L has me interested though and I am contemplating unlocking my bootloader for it which just becomes a PITA with losing your data and adding things back and all that great stuff that takes so much of your time. Then if things suck you have to flash back to something else and the never ending process continues. The N5 has gotten me so much time back in my life but I feel like it might demand some of my time back to it. Oh I hate this stuff!!!!
I think I'll make a backup, just in case, as someone said previously, I would prefer to make a clean installation if it's needed and use the image provided by Google.
Thanks!
I just updated to Lollipop. I tried to run TWRP without flashing (use fastboot boot command) and it run smoothly. However, after I encrypted my phone TWRP cannot decrypt the storage like it could in Kitkat even though I enabled encryption in Kikkat too

Forget CWM, it doesn't even support encryption for KK.
Anybody know how long it has taken the devs of TWRP to update to the new encryption for previous versions? Just curious about when this will work again.
Thanks for any info,

Is it just me or are these responses the least productive thing on the internet?
I would understand if I came in here demanding an exact ETA, but I feel like I respectfully asked for estimated past turn around times so that I could have a basic idea (2 weeks/2 months/2 years) of when I'll be able to use TWRP on my phone again.
And I understand that the devs are probably working very hard on getting this done (I see that there is version 2.8.2 for the Nexus 9 that allows decryption on Lollipop, so maybe they're really close), and although I am an entry level programmer, this kind of stuff goes way over my head, I do really appreciate the work that they do.
I am fairly new to the wonderful world of this level of Android customization and I'm just trying to learn how the process works.
Does anybody else have any useful info?

There isn't anything else to say other than what I did in the post. Check repos and see if there is any progress.
But still.
As mentioned, we don't know anything. We haven't had any feedback. You have access to the same info we do (TWRP dev thread and github). There is no point asking us the answer. You'd be more upset if no one answered at all.
Again, I wasn't asking for when the next version will be released, I understand nobody knows that... I asked for:

Without knowing the complexities of encryption and the development involved and the fact that past development turn around has nothing to do with the future, we can give only the same answer.
I'd say you can only ask the dev, but since that's against the rules, you'll just have to wait and find out when everyone else does. You have the same information available as we have, including past turn around dates.
New 2.8.2.0 with Android 5 encryption support is available at the TWRP site and confirmed working on my Nexus 5

Downloading it now. I will be really interested to see if they managed to address the stand-by bug that was causing excess drain and upgrade the modem firmware to improve connectivity. Those are the two main remaining issues with this phone. Hopefully they also implemented a method to force applications into full-screen, but I'm not holding my breath on it.

Already disappointed on the modem firmware front. No upgrade there. Also, no ability to force full-screen. Going to pass judgement on stand-by bug after 48 hour or so, unless obviously an issue.

I sure as hell hope not because the deep-sleep issue is horrible. You lose an average of 1.5-2h of actual SoT and the drain is regularly >1% per hour in stand-by.
I just keep getting an installation error, now I have a permanent notification telling me that the installation failed.

I was in the same boat as you. I was on 8.1B1 rooted so I fastboot flashed the boot.img, then rebooted , downloaded the OTA which wouldn't install.
Went back to boot-loader, flashed the boot.img to both slots, rebooted, took OTA, and it still won't work. I get "couldn't update installation problem"
I didn't have an issue getting the last OTA, the same way.
I dunno

Yea..not looking to start over.
The OTA I downloaded was off the reddit announcement thread. I'm assuming that guy pulled it off the device. Essential said they were going to post "sideloading files" also. So, I'm hoping that those are somehow different. (Otherwise why wouldn't they just throw a link up there)
Wonder if Essential pushed it since Pixel is now offering pre release of Android P?
My radio has noticeably improved, instead of VZW its finally showing Verizon wireless. And the new developer options are nice

My install wasn't working either at first (same boat as you guys, Magisk rooted with custom kernel). At first I just did a Magisk uninstall and reboot but it wouldn't install. Thought maybe I still had a custom recovery installed, but there was no TWRP in recovery. So, I just did a sideload install of the 8.1 beta using adb and then rebooted. That put me back on stock 8.1b1 and retained all my settings/data. Then I made sure my settings were correct in developer options (USB debugging, etc.), and it's finally installing. Not sure, maybe I just didn't hold my mouth right the first couple times, but it's working now.
Can anyone tell me if stable has multitouch issues that were on beta?
Rooted 7.1.1 took the update just fine, lost root and twrp
Looking at META_INF\com\android\metadata, it's expecting essential/mata/mata:8.1.0/OPM1.180104.010/144:user/release-keys but, based on the text at the top of the screen when sideloading, the device is at ssential/mata/mata:8.1.0/OPM1.180104.010/144:user/test-keys. Changing it is pointless, since META_INF\MANIFEST.MF contains a SHA-256 hash of of the metadata file. I'm going to try recomputing the hash and updating the OTA zip.
Edit: Didn't work. But has someone on reddit confirm Jank4AUs situation.

Something tells me we won't be getting android P/
Hi all! I I tell you guys what is my first experience with the new update. I have a Nokia 3 TA-1032 dual sim, I use it with SD card, and I formatted as an internal storage. When today I decided to search for some updates to the system, and suprise: Hell ya boy, it have. So first the update is downloaded, then reboot. The phone was failed. I don't know what happened. So a reboot again whatta heck is happened, and I just see, the background image has changed, and all of the app icons dissappeared, and sadly some of the apps are lost huge amount of data. But! No upgrade. I'm quite not happy. After this, I repeated the update 2 times: failed. Than I decided to eject(I mean pick it out from my device) my SD card, and repeat the process. Remember, my SD is formatted as an integral storage. After this circus I finally get the update, and installed. So, I just looked my apps: hello Google, nice unnecessary apps what you got there. Your eyes my friend is good: with the update, we get some unnecessary apps, like: Google docs, and other type of things. I'm so happy Nokia. Oh, and the new 8.1 system is using more ram! JUST THE SYSTEM WITHOUT APPS! Please guys, think twice before installing this "very useful and super" update...

Only thing you can do is flash a 7.x rom using ost then upgrade to 8.0, but you will lose all your data.
There are threads on how this is done. I'm guessing you haven't unlocked your bootloader
Indeed, I never did anything like that, at all, I know nothing when it comes to telephones, so all these root and bootloader things scare me a lot. But I just can't keep 8.1, it turns on the screen when I get a notification, I can't play pokémon go, and the brightness is wrong. This is such a mess, also I have no money to buy another phone, I just want to cry
By the way, why do I have to rollback to 7 instead of 8 directly? And how can I ensure that I'll get 8.0 instead of 8.1 when I upgrade? Sorry for all these questions but as I said I know nothing, if you can give me detailed steps and/or links to relevant guides I'll be grateful.

No, I *want* the notifications to be on the lock screen, but I don't want the screen to lit up when I receive a notification. Because, as other people said elsewhere, if I receive a notification while the phone is in my pocket, it might start doing other things since the screen became responsive instead of staying off. But I do want to see the notifications on the lock screen if I press the power button, otherwise I'd need to unlock the phone all the times. I hope that this makes sense.
None of that matters anyway since I'm mainly disappointed by Pokémon Go.

As for performance: it's MUCH better. Everything opens at least twice as fast as on 8.0, but there's a sacrifice for this: the general smoothness of system has degraded. In-app performance is best and it's pretty smoother than 8.0, but in such places as recent apps menu and drop-down bar it's quite laggy.
As for battery, I see no changes at all.
Yes, in 8.1 the recent apps menu is terrible laggy. I hope they fix it as soon as possible.
