Touch screen respond time - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, first of all, I would like to introduce myself. I got my nexus 5 the first week that it was announced and was amazed at the speed of the new device running both kitkat 4.4 and snapdragon 800 as well as having a ram of 2gb. I was then further blown away when I switched to ART runtime. Note, my previous phone was a Xperia Arc. So compared to that, the difference was between sky and ground.
I think the speed difference in overall smoothness of the phone could be due to kitkat 4.4 or snapdragon 800 while the speed of switching between app was due to 2gb ram and ART.
Anyway, I was very pleased with it as it is finally a phone which is comparable in smoothness to the ios world of iphones.
TL;DR, nexus 5 is very fast.
Now, onto the point. I recently came across this article. http://www.phonearena.com/news/Funk...ne-display-touch-response-time-so-far_id54887
And I see that HTC M8 topped the chart with nexus 5 tied with iphone 5/5s.
My question is this:
1. Is there anyway to improve the response time through software tweaks? either through rom, kernel or some sort of mod? or is it all impossible as it is hardware based?
2. How does the few milisecond affects the overall speed of the phone? app opening speed, overall smoothness in typing, responsiveness in games, etc

I don't have the tools or patience to test if it's just placebo or not, but others have reported success with SGS Touchscreen Booster on random devices.
Could be 100% snake oil, but you're fighting what's likely a hardware limitation, so you're probably grasping at straws in the first place.

Milliseconds isn't a time scale in my life.
No one will see much difference in phone speed, for simple things like opening an app anyway, from here on in. Yes, multitasking may improve...and new features will come....but general speed has topped out. For real life noticeability anyway.

Well ,the part where i notice about the delay although very slightly is keyboard. For some reason, I still feel that the keyboard is not fully smooth, especially when I try to tap fast.

Try a different keyboard? I use Kii now. Loving it! Paid version. [emoji106]

Getting Jelly Bean Buttery Smooth on the Infinity

Hi All,
Having owned a Galaxy Nexus, and getting Jelly Bean some time ago, I was expecting a lot more from Jelly Bean on the Infinity when it came to interface fluidity. My Galaxy Nexus was a lot smoother - transitions and the notification menu especially.
But then I started to notice - in apps - the notification menu is actually very smooth, but not at the home screen. All transitions were still very slow however.
I had quite a bit of a play around and nothing seemed to improve the performance. Then I think I found something, and I want some people to sanity check me. I use Apex launcher (performance was still just as slow with the default launcher). In it's options, you can disable wallpaper completely (which you cannot do on the default launcher).
When I do this...I finally get the greatly improved fluidity I was expecting. It's not perfect, but the difference is huge.
Is anyone else able to confirm this? It seems strange. I was not using live wallpapers...just a static wallpaper. How much difference can a wallpaper make?
High resolution wallpaper can slow down performances due to pictures taking space on the RAM. Thus high definition pictures can take quite a bit of data ~10MB. Though that doesn't seem to be a lot...
Well I have tried using a smaller image, but I expect Android is up-scaling it to full resolution. The anmation was much less smooth. Once I disabled the wallpaper again, animations were smooth again.
Does anyone else use Apex, or a launcher that can disable the wallpaper to test this?
I just use a 1x1 pixel of black, pretty much "removes" the need to draw the wallpaper.

Did you notice a perceivable improvement in performance as a result of using that wallpaper? It seems likely that Android will stretch that 1x1 pixel out to fill a large canvas of black, which may not give any performance increase so I would be interested to know.
I would also like to know if I am the only one noticing this difference? Maybe no one else really cares about it except for me!
I use Apex Launcher Pro. I notice no difference whether I'm using wallpaper or not. Everything seems nice and smooth to me.
I would say you shouldn't expect to much from the Infinity. The Nexus 7, being a Nexus device, will always be faster than any other devices out there. The Infinity with it lousy flash storage and a full HD screen will never be able to catch up with the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 in terms of speed and fluidity.

I somewhat agree...it is certainly pushing a lot of pixels. So my expectations have not been too high. In fact, I have really been pleasantly surprised. However - for the most part - I don't believe the I/O limitations should be affecting this tablet that much. Obviously there will be some effect...the same issues I was seeing before are still present...but I still do expect some improvement from JB.
That said...I am actually seeing it...but only with the wallpaper disabled. This is what strikes me as odd...it is just a static background image...and it feels like a bug.
Maybe I should just keep it off and wait until Key Lime Pie?
Disabling unused apps and clearing their data helps a lot. If you cannot disable see if you can "uninstall updates" first after that you should be able to. If you're rooted like me you can disable even more stuff using Titanium BU.
The difference? Everything is loaded immediately on startup (i.e. no calender widget that takes 5 sec to show). Balanced mode feels like performance mode, I can go on.

What benefit is clearing a disabled app's data? My typical method for disabling something is to "freeze" it with TiBU and skip the OS menus altogether. Is there some additional benefit I could gain by clearing the frozen app's data too?
I was one of the people having slowness issues with their device but a couple of days later i figured it out. I went into the settings - apps - running and cached apps list. My ram was down to 100MB at some points. The 1GB of ram doesnt seem to be enough but we need to make due with what we got. So i installed Autostarts and disabled all the startup apps and any other apps i dont need when i change wifi state and all that other useless stuff. Google+ would run almost every 2 seconds, Maps aswell. So i disabled those apps from running at bootup and such. Now my available RAM is at 400MB constantly and it is running crazy fast. Opening the recent apps list and clearing those apps is super fast now. Also disabled some of the animation effects that jelly bean puts in. I personally am more concerned with performance then quality.
I noticed every app has notifications turned on by default (settings/apps). I don't know if it matters but I've been turning it off on everything I don't use notifications with.
+1

I kinda laugh when I hear that it is pushing a lot of pixels so that's why it isn't smooth.... take the iPad 3 for example higher resolution, crappier specs and crappy iOS but it runs so smooth that it makes me want to trade in my infinite for it. I will have to jailbrake it to be able to do what I like but the experience will be better.... was just playing around with my friends iPad 3 and **** did I get me tinking.....

Dude, you should seriously do some homework on Anandtech to say that the iPad 3 has crappier specs. In term of SoCs and graphic performance, the A5X chip in the iPad 3 is the most powerful SoC on a tablet right now, even the upcoming Snapdragon S4 Pro is unable to compete with it. I don't have much love for Apple, but we need to consider facts. If you consider raw computing power, Tegra 3 is even behind the iPad 2. In order to drive that many pixels on the iPad 3, Apple had to include a humongous SoC as well as much bigger battery, which explains why the iPad 3 is thicker and takes longer to charge. For your information, Tegra 3 is still stuck with single-channel memory while the rest of the industry have moved on to dual-channel memory early this year (look at Snapdragon S4, Exynos 4, OMAP 4)
As much as I dislike the current situation, there is not much of a competition going on right now with SoC. Currently, on the tablet front, Apple has the most powerful SoC on the market (A5X). On the phone side, the A6 chip is also the most powerful SoC on a phone as well. I am severely disappointed at Qualcomm and nVidia for failing behind Apple so far on this front. Not much is known about Tegra 4, but they'd better bring some Kepler to it, otherwise nVidia will become irrelevant.

PiPo M9 Review / Discussion

Rooting instructions:
Type into google:
HTML:
site:pipo.cn upgrading procedure
Design and feel:
The tablet feels great, its one of the lightest tablets out on the market, only being beaten by the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, the build quality is great despite the weight, it feels solid, doesn’t bend under tension and is in my opinion one of the best Chinese tablets build quality wise.
One negative note is that the speakers are on the back and sometimes you can accidently put your hands over them, or have them facing down on a table and therefore sound isn’t as loud, but once the speakers aren’t covered they are one of the best quality speakers on the market.
In my opinion I don’t really like the design on the back, though my PiPo M9 will be in a fulltime case when it arrives. Its just a personal opinion as I’m not a fan of the Toshiba like backing.
Gaming:
Gaming is great overall, I tested apps such as Citadel, Real Racing 3, Bejeweled, Temple run 2 etc. I didn’t notice any lag in the actual gameplay while playing, but I did notice some lag which wasn’t noticeable to the normal person on the cut scenes of Real Racing 3, which only lasted about half a second, and were fixed once I rooted the device and overclocked it a bit.
Web browsing / PDF browsing:
Web browsing is pretty fast and snappy, but most of it is dependent on your internet speeds. Websites such as cnn.com loaded fine, zooming in and out there was no lag, watching online videos no lag, but some poorly coded websites like perthnow.com struggled, but this would have been the same on every single tablet.
PDF browsing is also lag free apart from zooming in really far, where it takes a second to focus the text so it looks crisp. This wouldn’t be an issue on a high resolution screen like the Nexus 10 or iPad 4, but for the price is pretty good. I’m not sure why you would be zooming in that much in real life though.
Battery life:
Generally the battery has been one of the impressive sides of this tablet. With wifi off, it loses about 1% every 8 hours on standby, with wireless on while in standby it loses about 5-10% every 8 hours. My first day with the tablet doing benchmarks and other stuff, after about 4-6 hours it was only down to about 45% which is pretty impressive. There was no issue with drainage etc. but bare in mind I’m on the newer March 19 firmware.
Android Experience:
Its snappy, works great. I used the Nova Launcher on mine as I was sick of clicking the top right corner to get to the list of apps. Most apps work great, I rooted the device so I could download mobile apps, as there still isn’t much tablet made apps or websites in general.
Price:
$250 for a quad core, 2GB ram, semi high resolution screen? This tablet is defiantly a good buy, and beats most tablets out there on the market. It will shine past high resolution tablets such as the Onda V972 which lags in HD mode and its only real competition is past the $300 mark.
Overall:
8/10 – A great buy for the price. A 10.1 inch quad core 2Gb tablet, what more could you ask for? Though 1 wish is that I hope 4.2 Android comes out with the new tablet features. Camera shouldn’t be an issue as most phone camera beat the tablets out there anyways.
It’s a great buy for almost everyone, but I wouldn’t recommend buying it for a geek or a tech savvy person as they will quickly pick up the small amounts of lag which might happen, which isn’t just isolated to this device.
Good points:
Minimalistic design
Great speakers
Android 4.1.1 Jellybean
Fast and responsive
Bad points:
Poor camera quality
Speakers on the back
If you're interested in where I bought my tablet from its from spemall
If you have any questions, or tests you would like me to do, please don't hesitate to ask and when I have time I will do those tests.
Hi. What speed do you overclock it to and what app do you use to overclock it? Are you using the stock firmware, only rooted?
I've seen some video showing it lagging in Real Racing 3, worse than the Onda V972 which has a larger resolution albeit with more powerful GPU. You said you do not experience any lag in gameplay?
If you have the time, maybe post some benchmark score of Antutu and 3DMark

I actually have it on 1.6ghz using rom toolbox or something. I'm using the 19th of March firmware.
I noticed lag on the cut scenes of Real Racing 3 which wasn't an issue when I changed the CPU to performance instead of on demand. But the actual driving gameplay is no lag, but sometimes the cutscenes have lag... but thats mainly because real racing 3 is badly coded.

Thanks for the info. So changing the governor to performance is enough to make it run smoother. Have you tried actually overclocking it just for kicks? . IIRC, the RK3188 is initially rated at 1.8 GHz
I'm very interested in buying this tablet, but rather concerned about the initial performance review. I realize RR3 is not a good benchmark, but seeing some tablets using the Exynos 4412, which use the same Mali GPU with lower clock can run RR3 better makes me a bit worried. Hopefully it'll get better as the firmware matures.
Anyway, just saw that JB 4.2 update is in the works at http://blog.geekbuying.com/, interesting

Great news about 4.2! Yeh, RR3 is poorly optimized and coded for MOST devices... the Exynos 4412 is a popular Samsung CPU used in its tablets which is why RR3 runs better on that... because its optmized for it... (the amount of Samsung users who would be mad - haha). So yeh, its not because its a bad CPU, its bad relative to the popular ones which most games are optimized for.
Waiting for a custom kernel to come out before overclocking.

What's strange to me is, the RK3188 beats the Exynos hands down in both CPU and GPU department. I'm no expert on this but, just by comparing raw power, the RK3188 should beat the exynos in every apps. I think Samsung just got a much more mature and solid firmware at this point
I'm waiting for a group buy to end to acquire one of these tablets.
I have a question regarding the screen performance while in the street with day light. How does it behave?
Is it like most smartphones that when we step outside we can see a thing?
I have seen many reviews but non speaks about this...

Its pretty standard with mobiles... on brightest setting, in direct sunlight, like every other device you won't be able to see much.
With Samsung's and HTC's mobiles this doesn't happen...
I'm a bit disappointed with these Android compilation they install in Pipo M9.
It’s missing a ton of features that are native of Android ICS and JB.
For example:
1. Shortcut widgets from pull down menu should work to turn on/off the respective features.
Instead when clicked they take us to settings.
2. We should also be able to select, add or remove which widgets to show in that “pull down” menu.
We don't have this option
3. No Auto rotation on home screens with native launcher.
With 3rd party launcher this is possible....
4. Using the native launcher, not possible do we add/remove home screens?
Actually the native launcher does not allow a single customization!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5. Native camera app is extremely poor and almost don't have any options.
Also, no option to choose where to save the photos and videos, such as on External SD Card.
6. No battery percentage icon as alternative as we have natively in ICS and JB roms.
7. On look screen the slide to unlock feature only allow the option to unlock.
In ICS and JB this "circle" has more options and in some cases we can also customize it. Here is just to unlock.
8. Honestly I just can't understand the system folder hierarchy nor the files and their settings, therefore I tried to do some changes and just don't know what to do. I do some MOD and DEV with Huawei and Samsung but this **** I never see!!
And so on and so on and so on....
Overall I'm extremely happy with the tablet but completely disappointed with this ****y and completely Android firmware they have INVENTED to install in this tablet.
This screems for real Dev works

Just found it here
I've had this tablet for a good 3+ months now and so far no issues. I have rooted the phone following the process the OP mentioned above (Pipo instructions on how to upgrade firmware) and used this firmware (JB 4.2.2) ---> M9 software_english version_20130529(no need key); it's actually the third link posted.
I also have Nova Launcher and I will have to say the price I paid for it is very much well worth it. It's actually bang for the buck one of the best out there. It's one of the few Chinese tablets with (as of now) with bluetooth and a pseudo GPS (E-Compass). The OTG function also gives it 3G capability among other things.

looks good but for a 10" would like a higher resolution screen, although that brings other issues like higher power consumption for the screen, and requiring a faster GPU which again uses more power.

I use my Pipo M9 a lot for reading e-books and watching videos and it's actually very good. I was on the fence for the same reasons you bring up; but seriously for the size, the resolution is good enough. Technically a 10" screen with a 720p resolution is good enough since I also game and I know that a 1080p screen on a 24" is good enough as well. I also know that anything higher than 24"; 1200p and 1440p are the best options, but that's another topic all together.
Of course, this is just my opinion and everyone will have their preference.

They way I did it was by flashing a pre-rooted rom (riley rom 1.7 with sdk 2.0). In the meantime, I had to ditch riley rom 1.7 and flashed riley rom 1.6 cause I had an annoying flickering display issue. With this rom, the issue is still there, but only occurs if I set brightness lower than 20 or 25%.
I honestly didn't keep the tablet with stock rom long enough to see if the flickering was already there... anyone else having flickering?

I use Sumvision Cyclone Voyager 2 4.2 v1 (GB, Incl. Root) by Hejira , and the flickering issue is in alot of roms to be honest, at moment anything lower than 50% causes the flickering for me, but that aside , this is a fantastic tablet.

Trading my Z3 for an M8?

Hey guys, a friend made me an offer. He's brand new HTC One M8 for my Z3 (also brand new). I'm a bit confused, I like the M8 design more but can't decide. The M8 is slightly more expensive but I can't decide. I really like the M8. [emoji17]
Sent from my D6603
M8 Pros
1. Better build, impact resistance
2. Better speakers/audio output is cleaner and louder for aux.
3. Sense UI is generally considered best looking Android UI
4. Free LCD replacement from drops etc in first 6 months
5. More available cases, accessories and they are sold in more places.
6. Faster OS updates (My dad's T-Mobile version already received Android 5.0 Lollipop)
Z3 Pros
1. Good Speakers/aux audio out (not as good as M8 but close)
2. Bigger screen
3. Brighter LCD though color temp is off
4. Camera is way better, probably the best after Nokia (need to use manual mode for good pics)
5. Better battery life
6. Thinner & lighter Phone
7. UI close to stock Android
I made my dad get an M8, so these are my conclusions from actual use of both.
I think the M8 looks better and tougher, but overall I like the Z3 better as it's more well rounded in all aspects. If not for the stupid HTC bar space in front and the Ultra Pixel gimmick I think the M8 would have been better.
Really a great comparison from abhinav.tella, I must agree with him but I want to stress the fact that from the battery point of view the m8 is a step backward ( it's not so bad, but only a little bit over the average ).
For sure the htc section is full of devs and you could gain in modding and choice of customizations, but since the root exploit has just come out and lollipop is coming soon I would give it time for the development to grow.
I switched from z3 to m8 about 3 months ago ( there were no chances to root at that time without unlocking the BL ) and I was quite satisfied, but now since we have root I just came back to the z3 and I can guarantee that I'm actually at peace with the world
Me and that friend will meet at a café in a few hours. There we'll see what we will do. Gonna post. ☺

I've had HTC and first thing was always get rid of sense can't stand that ui
Also remember, battery life decreases over time for any phone. It will be at around 75-80% efficiency after 300 charge cycles. So that is another thing to think about when getting a used phone as both do NOT have a replaceable battery.
I just moved from a M7 to the Z3. I have to say the phone is superior in every aspect except for durability and sound quality. The M8 is not too different from M7 (except for upgraded hardware which is still inferior to the Z3). If the two aforementioned factors matter to you more than all the rest, by all means, switching to the M8 wouldn't be unwise.
Do you really want a worse camera, worse battery life, smaller screen, less RAM in exchange for better sound?

I wouldnt say the m8 is more impact resistance. There will be dents on the metal if you dropped it but the z3 most probably would not.

RAM doesn't have anything to do with performance in terms of smoothness or speed. More RAM simply allows you to keep more applications running at the same time, nothing else.

Ram is related to performance in terms of smoothness. Do you actually think ur phone will be smooth with low ram?

I never said the m8 wasn't smooth, in fact it's one of the smoothest devices out there, ram however is still important for better multitasking and loading heavy pages. On the iPad air with 1gb when I go to a particular forum with lots of gifs the browser crashes every time, when I go from 1 app to another, it usually refreshes..
I got the z2 and z3 tablet and both handle these tasks flawlessly, no crash, no reloading. So yeah more ram will handle multitasking and heavy stuff much better.
The M8 excelled in drop tests, the speaker grills and thick bezel protect the LCD. The Z3 is nowhere nearly as armored, almost guaranteed to shatter the LCD as glass is edge to edge. As for RAM the M8 runs smooth with 2GB it's no different than the Z3 I have both. The iPhone evens survives with 1GB, why? Memory management. I doubt I need so many apps cached in RAM at once but to each his own I guess.
All OP needs to worry about is the stuff I listed earlier and based on that which device suits his needs.
I doubt my z3 would survive the amount of drops the wife's m8 has had, yeah it's strong enough to take a good drop test but the htc is flipping unreal at durability.
Btw, just for info even she prefers the z3 tho.

It does. When you have no more free ram for new apps to use, the device would have to close other apps and that would affect the performance for SURE. I agree with you on the second point but not the first.
The only pro i can think of in favor of the M8 are the speakers. Worse battery, worse camera, worse bezel(longer), smaller screen, and to top it off, not waterproof. I was in the same dillema, and decided to stay with the Z3.

The truth about laggy Idol 3 5.5 ?

So I have read and watched a lot about the i3 5.5, probably too much. In short it's a great in almost all aspects, save from
the performance, rendering it laggy/slow/choppy at times. Is it really that bad, or is it exaggerated, or perhaps downplayed?
I'm interested in intel of day-to-day use and how the i3 5.5 handles the OS, browsing, video and gaming.
Hopefully it's more a software issue than a hardware issue, which would make sense. Hopefully the 5.1 update will be out
soon. Are the European i3 5.5's also getting the last updates, or is it only the U.S?
Hopefully these relatively small issues will be a thing of the past soon. I am planning on leaving my Z Ultra (qualcomm 800,
adreno 330) for this device and that says a lot I think of how much faith I have in it
:good:
I have definitely experience lags here and there during day to day usage but haven't really found them annoying to the point where it is impossible to use the device.
Sure, the phone could have been fitted with a slightly more powerful GPU but overall the pros outweigh the cons. Only thing left is how commited Alcatel is with regards to software updates.
Power Users should definitely stay way. However, I have no qualms recommending this phone to anyone who is looking for big screen multimedia mobile device on a budget.
Thanks for your answer. A guy at Youtube said that after a couple of updates he received from Alcatel the phone performs much better, thus implying it is not a hardware issue, but a software one. He reported a perfectly lag free i3, with maybe once in a while a minor hiccup. Did you get any of those updates yet and if so, what is the difference in performance lag wise?
We have had only one update , that has resulted in a minor improvement in the UI response. Remember, the phone is still on 5.0.2 and that is responsible for the lag to a large extent. Plus - at the end of the day, its a 1.5 Ghz quad core with 2 GB RAM - The performance will be limited to whatever that means. If you are a power user , need a phone for an year or so, and are spending $250 for the Idol3 - you might want to see if you can score a OnePlus One 16GB for the same price. From a sheer performance perspective, it will come out ahead owing to a faster processor and more RAM . There are other drawbacks , that you should consider of course.
Thanks for your insight. The thing is that the i3 runs almost an all Vanilla Android, whereas other heavier skinned phones with the same cpu run perfectly fine, no hiccups either. Mind you, 33000 in Antutu is quite substantial and should be enough to run the i3 flawlessly. I guess you're on point by saying it's still on 5.0.2 and that is probably the main culprit. Hopefully Alcatel will tackle the issue soon, then they truly have a device they can be proud of for 100%, something the bigger brands and their "flagships" can learn from, imo. Did you see any improvement after the update?
My big issue was scroll lag that was in every browser, any page that had those menu overlays would stutter like a mofo. After the update it largely fixed it but still left stutter in ad laden pages. Once I installed Adguard my browsers became butter smooth. The Adreno 405 pushing 1080p res isn't doing well in 3D demanding games... if you need a phone for that get Zen2.
Thanks for the heads up. I just installed Adguard for the lulz on my old Samsung S3, quite nifty. I think the i3 will continue to impress and possibly get even better with coming updates.
Why on earth does your thread require I be in XDA 2015 theme to view it when none of the other threads do?
Good question. Probably because this thread is made of pure win
My guess is the idol using more of the 1ghz CPU to run a little cooler and save power, and when it is slow to switch to the 1.5ghz CPU is when we experience lag. Kind of like your using a 1ghz quad core phone. The idol has been proven to run cooler than its other 615 brothers, so it may be set to run on the slow CPU more.
It will definitely get better if they ever release 5.1.1. I'm not holding my breath.
I am already on the latest update, there is slight ( not sure if placebo ) improvement when scrolling web pages with mulitple images. Overall, I think it is fine unless you are power user.
Anymore input from users? What is your experience between before and after the update regarding to smoothness?
I found enabling gpu rendering for 2d made the phone run a lot smoother.
I was barely able to view this forum on it now I can scroll up and down and its buttery smooth (with the occasional hiccup here and there)
Changing default keyboard for Fleksy fixed all for me

Funny, I love that keyboard. Fleksy all the way, looks really clean too!
Try clearing your cache and/or doing a factory reset. Worked for me after the update slowed me down a little
no more lag since 10 06 update, this phone is finally totally great
When was it released? Is there a changelog?
there was a changelog when i got it, it's about stagefright and stuff

Overall love

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Samsung Galaxy S9+, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Samsung Galaxy S9+ is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I am liking how snappy and smooth is S9+ is.
I loved the S8+, especially coming from a Note 4. I have the option to upgrade every 12 months and did so for the new camera and relocated fingerprint reader. Still love the S9+ but the 'wow' factor wasn't the same obviously.
Liking it so far besides the fingerprint sensor doesn't work properly on either of the 2 I purchased. Hopefully Samsung will get the bugs worked out soon.
currently liking it but almost identical to my previous s8 minus the new little feature gimmicks i got the purple one even I am a man because I want to be unique.
This is my first Samsung, and I have to say is the best phone I have ever had in my entire life.
For reference, my previous phones were a Mate 9 Pro, a Pixel 2 XL and the U11+.
Possibly one of the best android phones i've ever used design wise. Samsung software is nice but i never like getting pre-installed garbage i can't get rid off. Will however root soon...
This is just the perfect phone for me.
It comes with quite some beautiful design (Coral Blue)
Great screen, great camera for low light and slow mo, great performance (Exynos 9810) and 6GB RAM, great speakers, great biometric options, and the list goes on and on.
On the other hand, battery life is not as good as my previous phone (Galaxy A8 SM-A8000), and I hoped it is lighter and thinner like that phone.
Overall, this is just a special treat for me and I love it by my hearts.
P.S. I am glad I went for the Coral Blue S9+ UK 128GB Exynos variant, and it performs very, very well without breaking a sweat thermal wise (Snapdragon is known to heat up a lot more usually).
Also, since all the Snapdragon Samsung phones I had in the past had their motherboard toast after 2 years of usage or so, all my working Samsung phones are the more reliable Exynos (That A8 broke too with a broken display and unreliable battery, but mobo not toast yet) and I want to keep that trend of Exynos everything on my phones.
Waiting for mine in the mail right now. I'm currently using the note 4. Can't friggen wait, tired of the note 4 sluggishness
Also, I forgot to mention that I ordered my S9+ from clove on Feb 28th. The phones shipped March 6th, but clove did not get the coral Blue variant, so they ended up shipping my package on Mar 16th, only to get delayed by FedEx due to severe weather conditions as well as the exploding parcel in USA, with me finally getting my hands on it on March 22nd, and that is with me heading to the FedEx location and pickup myself. So yeah, due to this series of delays, I was getting too anticipated to get that parcel that I literally couldn't do anything properly for the past 2 weeks.
Anyways, I hope fellow ppl who still haven't received their packages to have better luck than what I have had.
Like the s9+ lookswise and camera.Hate it's battery life and choppy performance and.

Couldn't ask for anything more...
I love the design and the camera. SO GOOD!
This is the best device I could have got.
Guys do let me know how is the PUBG experience on you Exynos Samsung S9 plus.I am having a very hard time with the device, game has micro shutter and lag over a period of time.
the device doesn't overheat temperature will around 38-40* I am running it on HD+ resolution with balance settings and high frame rates.
Very dissatisfied with Samsung on this part.

Well that's the Mali gpu drivers for you. Btw I am running android 9.0 pie beta (soilders rom on the s9+ section) The exynos 9810 mail GPU drivers has improved a bit. Getting slightly better performance and less throttling with the 9810 with 9.0 pie. So I guess wait a bit.
pros: best camera, look and feel (have the blue one without case), good performance, black themes
cons: battery could be better but is ok, major updates could be faster but can also live with that
fazit, best phone I've ever had

This is totally not my experience. I use the Exynos GS9+ and I have none of the issues you just mentioned while playing PUBG. Yes the phone does overheat but that is normal for any device which is pushing it's limits. Coming to the performance I play on ultra high settings with anti aliasing turned on and I have never as much as felt a stutter. The battery does drain considerably, around 10-12% per game but I think it's okay since PUBG itself is very demanding. For reference my device is set on QHD+ resolution.
I would suggest you to check if some unwanted app is running in the background and actually hogging up resources as that has happened to me plenty of times on my previous phones. I'm more careful of what I install now.
Really like the One UI and the performace it provides since I came from the S7
I've become very unhappy with my Galaxy S9+. Foremost is the fact that I can't root it. (I have one of those US models that you can't root.) It's my phone. I bought it; I own it; it's mine. I should be able to do anything I want with it. I tried to write a script to backup my SD card to a USB stick, but I don't have permissions to run it. Being a professional programmer, that really irks me.
Then there's all the bloatware. I disabled over 200 packages of stuff I don't want and don't need. Sorry, but I'm not going to be part of the Samsung culture - not a fan.
Samsung is acting just like Apple. "This is the way we want to you use your phone, and you don't have a choice." Well, I do have a choice - to dump Samsung. The OnePlus 7 is coming out next week, and I'm 'deep six'ing Samsung.

Just realized the OnePlus slogan is "Never Settle". My sentiment exactly. I'm not going to settle for Samsung's hubris and disdain.
