Long press of that app button gets you menu.
Old post, I know. But thought it might help someone.

Holding down the menu key won't bring up the keyboard!

I hate how holding the menu key down doesn't bring up the keyboard on this phone like it did on the n1. Is there a potential fix or workaround for this?

Can anyone else replicate this. Holding the menu button should pop up the keyboard no matter what you are doing.

Nope, just you. Try a reboot. Maybe Factory Reset after that.

It seems to depend on what you are doing. In Firefox, it works as expected. In the stock launcher or in the browser, you can hold the menu key until you're blue in the face and it won't pop up the keyboard.
Works in cm7!!

Disable screenshot?

Is there a way to disable the screenshot option on the bottom toolbar?
I am so used to that spot being generally the extra settings or options button for most apps so as a result, i have a crapload of accidental screenshots that i always have to delete because i hit it accidentally.

There's an option in the settings for the quick button. Changes it to none and it goes away.
Here are the options.

If I set quick button to none, what's another way to get a screen capture?

Hold down the button on the stylus then hold the tip on the screen and wait

Or press and hold power and volume down buttons.
Didn't realize this setting was there, this is so much better. Thanks.
any idea on how to disable the stylus screen cap. that button combo also switches brush/eraser in layerpaint and I'm always taking a screen cap at the wrong time.

Control the volume buttons?

Hi! I'm not sure where to put this, but I think it's an app I'm after so I'll make a try here.
Is there any way, like an app, to control the volume buttons? I change the volume accidently all the time, actually I rarely ever want to change it since this is a wifi only version and I I find the system sounds just disturbing. So turning them off completely would be nice, and I've searched for a app to do this but no luck yet.. A small widget to replace the power button sure ain't hard to find so it must be possible.
Thanks in advance!

the Q&A section would have been the place to ask a question. But I don't know of any app for that. Never wanted needed something like that. I don't know how you change it on accident.

As far as I can tell that's just an app to change the volume in the status bar. It doesn't seems to turn off the hardware buttons, or is it?

I have no idea what you mean but there ain't a way to turn off the buttons in the settings as far as I can see. And that's my problem, I know how to change the volume without using the buttons, there's even apps for that like the one linked above. But I've not found any to turn off the buttons, preferably all the time except for when it change the media volume but it's not the end of the world if I have to do that manually in the device as well..

Congrats you helped this person exactIy 0%....
1.He stated he didnt know if he had placed his post in the right section ,he didnt ask where he should have placed it.
2.Why reply at all with an abscence of an answer, ie: "But I dont know of any app for that" .If everyone who didnt know of an "app for that" posted, the post would be 4,000 pages long....just stay on the sidelines.
3.OP didnt ask what YOU wanted/needed..."Never wanted needed something like that"
4.Your thinly veiled condemnation of his misfingering his device (accidentally adjusting the volume) is completely uncalled for.
MODS: My apologies if I am out of line.
OP: I would think a mod rather than an app might be what you seek.Apps being more device universal.Try the Themes section.Lotta mods there.

Like what Jonathanpeyton said.. You need a Mod not an App to disable hardware buttons.. Sorry i misunderstood u earlier..

Well I suppose it's good to know next time how to think when posting a new thread, I use different forums all the time but I'm not used to this "is it a question, post it in Q&A no matter the topic". To me every thread should be posted in the section that best describes the subject no matter if it's a question or not but that's obviously not the case here.

Hmm, I was worried about that but since there seems to be an app for everything now I thought there might be that for this as well. I know that I'm not the only one with this problem, and besides many with me think that the buttons are turned upside down when you use the device on portrait mode like I do now. If I have it turned with camera facing to the right seen from the screen side volume up is down and if I rotate it 180 degrees I can't hold and it while typing without accidently pressing the buttons.
Actually I think the button to adjust the system sounds is useless on a wifi-only device, but that's a different story. So to get back to topic, I suppose this mod can't be done without rooting the device first?

There's an app called volume locker which locks your volume unless you confirm any changes due to pressing buttons.

Home button issue

Ok, first off I know what your gonna say, its key binding... I can assure you its not.
This just happened today, didn't install anything but a contacts+ app last night. When I press the home button in the center, it opens my recents apps. When I press towards the sides, it goes home like its supposed to. I didn't drop my phone at all today or yesterday. This just started about an hour ago. No updates, no nothing.
Any ideas??

Did the home button function normally before installing the contracts+ app? If so I would recommend uninstalling the app until you can figure out if the problem is related to the app or checking the settings within the app to see if any settings are causing a conflict.

Is your home button sticking at all when you press in the middle? Sounds like it may be a bit and causing your press to register as a long press

Do you have any recommendations for a contacts app, by chance?

[Q] Why is the menu button the task manager button?

The button to the left of the physical button on the phone. (I'm not 100% it is called the menu button, but that is what I am going to refer it as.)
I just upgraded from the GS3 and am a bit frustrated. The button now goes to the task manager. I have to press and hold to get the menu appear. I hate this! Does anyone know of a way to get it back to normal? :crying:
It is now the recent apps button.

To be honest, I prefer the new layout on the s5. It was a pain having to hold the home button to get to recent app before

I was super happy when I saw the option to long-press recent apps for the menu key. Hopefully later on we get to remap the key to menu in ROMs like CM but if not I'm fine with it. I do wish it were still the menu key by default, though.
